View 1 RepliesI was unable to update AVG free due to an error. It said that something was being installed (there wasn't though) and it had to be finished first. I got the same error when trying to uninstall it so I had to use an AVG tool to force remove it from my system (I had this error for days before removing it so a restart did not work). Now I don't have an antivirus on my pc and I get an installation error when trying to install it again. Instead, I tried Panda free this time. Error. So I'm thinking it's not the antivirus, it's something in windows 10 that's malfunctioning but I don't know what.
View 1 RepliesI upgraded from 7 to 10 (no problems) and all worked with the exception of Ad-Aware Pro (AA). Win10 disabled AA ( no problem). I can't tell you how many times I uninstalled/re-installed AA trying to get it to work. I have had numerous contacts with AA support and the AA forum, still nothing. I have always used Win firewall. I don't like putting all my eggs in one basket. When I try to turn on win firewall from the Control Panel iI get the message 'Security & Maintenance cannot turn on Win Firewall'. When I try to turn it on manually, nothing happens.
Right now I can live without AA. I can use Win Defender and Win Firewall, if it would work. I can wait for AA to figure out what is wrong with AA, I mean they only had 5/6 months to figure it out!how to correct the Win firewall issue.
I am currently using Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit. Is Windows Defender enough for my PC protection, or would I have to install any other one? I regularly take all the upgrades Microsoft provide me for the PC.
View 1 RepliesI am downloading an ISO File from the official Microsoft Website (Windows 10 Insider Builds). My PC is infected which could result in the ISO File being infected and injected by a infection.. How to scan this ISO File before I install the Build onto my PC. After I do that, I will use a Bootable Anti-Virus, Bootable Anti-Virus to me.
View 9 RepliesI am using SUPERantiSpyware [SUPERantiSpyware.com] version 6.0.128 database version 12149 updated Nov 1, 2015. This is free version and I have been using it for more than two years on Windows 7 too.
Now I have Windows 10. When I run Scan ticking enable Rescue Scan [Maximum Boost], Windows 10 Hangs up giving following error message:
System sending this error message - 100 % completed KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
I have a Asus x75vc Notebook LapTop WIN8, upgraded to Windows 10 Home, and the W.Defender has turned itself off. Is it supposed to be like that?
View 2 RepliesAfter doing the second upgrade for Windows 10 on one of my machines, when clicking on Windows 10, it says it cannot open. Everything else is working fine. there is no other antivirus program on this computer and it worked fine prior to the original upgrade to windows 10
View 3 RepliesI need to add and remove certain exceptions but I cannot find out how to get there.
View 8 RepliesDefender won't update its virus definition file. It tries, and the green bar gets almost to the end then stops. After quite a while, the update fails with an error message saying that the update failed. This has been going on for a week or two!
View 9 RepliesMy windows fire wall won't turn on no matter what i do i tried every thing i found on the internet but with no luck at all i went to services and clicked on start but every time i do it i get this error and of course i also tried uninstalling my ESET nod 32 V9 antivirus but it didn't work and i really want this problem fixed mainly cuz it turns out that i can't download or update apps from the store if my firewall is off .
View 3 RepliesAfter researching the forums this morning I have decided to post my issue;
I am consistently resetting the UAC (image below) and rebooting to allow Edge and Calculator to function as normal.
What must be done to keep this setting in its place permanently? Never had this issue with Windows 7 and never had to put the setting in this position either, it just worked. I'm sure I need some education on this for Windows 10.
I have tried to modify (through the registry)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesSystemEnableLUA
Both ways (bit off/on) and nothing works. Maybe I'm not in the right area for this?
I have Windows Firewall disabled. I know this and it has to stay that way. I use a lot of AV apps that will not function with it on, even with exceptions.
In any case, I keep getting toast alerts saying it is disabled and I can't get rid of it. I had Action Center enabled, right clicked, and hit Disable Notifications for this app, but they keep coming back.
So, I disabled Action Center. Still get the toast alerts. HOW do I disable these? I miss the old Action Center control panel where I could just uncheck a dozen or so boxes and I never got bothered.
In my attempt to add security to my Lenovo Laptop Z50, and after having updated successfully to W10 from 8.1 last Autumn, I thought I'd install Panda for additional protection, not realising W10 Defender would close down. It has indeed done so, and now when I locate the Windows Defender icon via the search (bottom left of Window), and click on it, the message, 'This application has been turned off and is not monitoring your application'. Panda security is installed, but in fact, I have been happy (and felt confident) with Windows Defender, so after further thought I would like to revert back to Windows Defender, and un-install Panda.
What can I do to be able to get Windows Defender to open again?
So at my work and home I have been setting up Bitlocker. Today at work I was setting up Bitlocker on a PC and we could not get a password for a option to unlock the device. The only option we get is to either use a USB or a pin. As per the compliance officer we have to require an encryption passphrase upon boot and I am not big on pins. How do I get my passphrase ability back?
View 6 RepliesI have read, on the Internet, that Bitlocker can be got into, without using the password, by 'experts using encryption breaking tools.
I use a 13 part password, incorporating upper case & lower case letters, numbers and special (punctuation?) symbols.
So, just how secure is Bitlocker?
We have some computers with Windows 8 installed in a public library for the public to use. They are locked down tight with local GPO and is not in a domain since they need only Internet access. We have now switched to Windows 10 as OS on new computers and I was wondering if I could some how just copy the local GPO from the old Windows 8 computer so I did not have to run through all options and set the them again in order to lock the new computers down as tight due to security.
View 1 RepliesI installed Windows 10 Pro on an Intel NUC5i3RYH. In the UEFI settings I enabled Secure Boot, enabled UEFI boot and disabled Legacy Boot, yet in Windows 10 System Information it still says Secure Boot State: Off.
Is there something else I need to do to get Secure Boot working?
I want to click on my shortcut and fire up Ninja Trader without having to click run as Administrator, which I am, and without clicking yes to the UAC pop up window.
How can I change a shortcut permission to open without jumping through all these hoops?
Even though it says I'm the Admin, do I need to go to the Elevated Admin to do simple things like saving a Power & Save setting, which I can't do currently?
How can I reinstate Windows Defender, which is now closed down,by removing McAvee security even though the icon is missing.
View 9 RepliesI am working with windows 10 and see that I have Windows Defender to scan drives...how do I scan flash drives to see if they have any problems?
View 7 RepliesThe odd thing is I don't even use OneDrive except to automatically upload photos from my Android phone to my desktop; nothing has been detected on the phone.
I've run another full scan with Bitdefender and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (free) without any further detection.
Was just wondering if there might be other steps I need to carryout to be sure nothing spreads?
Defender on my main machine wont update saying a network problem yet my other machine on the same network is up to date, see pic.
View 1 RepliesCan UAC be configured on Windows 10 on a per application basis? You can stop the message "Do you want to allow this app from an unknown publisher to make changes to your PC" from appearing for all applications but I would like to have the setting of UAC apply to a single app and leave all other apps alone. I know the publisher of the app in question and it is safe. There used to be a program called "Compatibility Administrator" which ran on Windows 7 but is not available on Windows 10.
View 6 RepliesWhat would happen if my computer shuts down while BitLocker is encrypting my data partition drive? It takes ages!I am running Windows 10 Pro.
View 7 RepliesI have a usb that has been encrypted using bitlocker, I can connect this usb to my desktop and I can input the password and access the usb. However on my laptop and other computers, when I plug in the usb I do not get the prompt to input my password and instead just says that the drive is inaccessible. Both my laptop and my desktop are windows 10 and I have admin rights on both machines. On both machines I have not used bitlocker, how I can access my usb on normal machines and how I can open my usb on my desktop but not my laptop?
