View 1 RepliesI have windows 10 pro and if I go to settings, then system, then notifications and actions and then turn system icons on or off, I'm presented with a list of various settings to turn on and off, one of the settings is location, it is off and it is greyed out. View 1 RepliesI'd like to enable this option, but for some reason it's grayed out Image, even if I run cmd in administrator mode. I'm using win10 home. What could I do to be able to enable it?
View 1 RepliesI just reinstalled Windows 10 (clean). Now I see that I can't turn on Location Services, so I can't use cortana!
If I click on "change" (turn on) in the settings menu, nothing happens.
If I try to open cortana settings, nothing happens as well.

View 6 Replieshow there's no option to turn off automatic Windows Updates. There's only the option to allow new updates to download and install automatically. And the other option to choose when you want to install the updates. But no option to turn off Windows Update from downloading updates. If you wanted to download and check for new updates manually.
Why must Windows 10 security depend on Windows Defender to run occasional scans and to protect the computer, when you have your own security product such as example Norton. Which does regular frequent scans and has more regular definition updates than Windows Defender? If you have a high performance computer. Store apps you can get and install. Most apps have lagging and crashing issues at odd times if your in a middle of a project, watching media or playing mobile app games.
Using third party themes that Microsoft provides. Particularly themes that has multiple wallpaper slideshows. Causes desktop to act up. If you adjust if you're a gamer. Adjusting the graphic settings from Window to Full Screen or vice versa constantly. It causes desktop screen to be chopped, leaving echo past activity screens that you have closed. Which then makes you having to come to the conclusion of restarting Windows to get it back to normal.
As for pc games. If you play some games that aren't Windows 10 supported. You experience issues trying to get the game to load, crashing back to desktop or even internet stability issues for games that uses internet. It amazes me how Microsoft promotes Windows 10 with full of pride of them saying in certain Outlook Microsoft newsletter promotions. That they say Windows 10 is perfect for gaming. When it clearly proves the opposite.
So every time my surface pro 3 running windows 10 goes to sleep and I come back to it and try and wake it, it asks me to type in my password. I have set the option buried in the settings, to not require a password after waking it from sleep. But it continues to ask me to sign in every time. How can I get in to my computer without using a password every 10 minutes? I don't understand this. with windows 8.1 I was able to just swipe up from the wake screen without a password but now I always have to type in a password.

View 6 RepliesDoes the new Maps app being built for the phone and PC features voice turn-by-turn navigation? I know the current Maps app does not. You need to use Here Drive or another third party app for voice navigation.
View 1 RepliesI am having problems with me Mouse and key board, on boot up they will turn on for about 20 seconds then turn off. Then a error comes up,inaccessible_ boot_drive. But if I restart my pc the mouse and keyboard will do the same thing but instead of the error I get, choose keyboard layout, and a list of options but I cant choose them because the mouse isn't working. This all started happening after I upgraded my power supple but I when I put my old power supple in I had the same problem. I have windows 10and I have tried using different keyboards and different usb ports.

View 3 RepliesI have poor eyesight and have setup high contrast to see things better in windows 10.Also set the font to 10 point bold and tried the 125% setting. In windows 7 I did not have this issue, I used the classic theme, and just set the fonts all bold, no problem. I think I set the DPI also to a larger setting.
But I have a problem setting up personalization settings when it comes to colors now.It does not seem to affect windows apps already installed on the computer, but .3rd party programs mostly. One in mind is the information tab in the AMD Catalyst Drivers for instance. When I open this up the background is white and the text is an unreadable light gold color. In general if I set my theme to a normal without high contrast most of the text in all apps and programs is a light gray color, which I can barely read. I've played with my ASUS monitor settings some and been able to get more contrast.
My system icons icons are greyed out, like Volume and Power, so I can not enable them. After setup they work just fine, then they disappear. It is either caused by my settings or: I wonder, when custom power and sound card drivers gets installed, they get lost?
SFC scan does nothing. By playing with settings and closing explorer.exe, volume icon appeared and stated, that there is no audio service running, when I moved the slider, the message and red X disappeared, but after restarting explorer.exe, it was gone again. My sound card audio service, Windows audio are running. Seems this problems happens: System Icons Greyed Out for Windows 10 - Microsoft Community
I've been using Windows 10 for a few weeks now and I was looking to get Cortana to work. However, Cortana tells me that I need to allow it to access contacts. I clicked settings and I saw that all the settings were on, but were grayed out.
When I take a look at some of the other settings, some are also grayed out and some are not. When I go to the general tab, I get this:
Sometimes if I look through the privacy settings, the settings app just crashes for no reason without warning and I'm left confused and unable to enable Cortana.
I am running Windows 10 on my Dell Desktop. I am trying to download some apps via the Microsoft Store.
I am getting the "Free" button (to download) greyed over. It is happening with every app.
How i turn on 'grayed out' Volume & Network settings on windows 10 updated HP PC?
View 9 RepliesI have a brand new Dell Inspiron 7348 2 in 1 on Windows 10. I just noticed today that it would not auto rotate and that the option for Rotation Lock in Action Center and in the Display Setting is greyed out. My computer had all the latest updates and I just updated the drivers and the problem still persists. The problem did not occur 12/6/15 so I thought that one of the updates since then had been the cause. I uninstalled them one by one to no avail. On a possibly similar note, when I boot up, airplane mode is automatically enabled and Action Center is in Quiet Hours, even though it doesn't show it. I can resolve those both by clicking their respective icons but thought that it might me related to my current problem with rotation lock.
View 7 RepliesI was trying to upgrade from windows 7 to windows 10 and "Keep personal files only" grayed out. I dont want to do a clean install.
View 1 RepliesI upgraded on 7/29 and none of my Store Apps work. Store app is grayed out with a download arrow. I have run sfc /scannow and DISM restore health commands. There are no issues. I saw a command to fix the issue in another part of the forum, which I ran and completed but still no joy. That command:
Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "C:Program FilesWindowsAppsMicrosoft.WindowsStore_2015.8.3.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbweAppxManifest.xml"
I have gone though Brink's excellent Tutorials on re-registering Store and all apps. When reregistering Store, attachment "Error Store Reg" gives the details.
When I try and re-register all apps, attachment "StoreAppReReg-error" shows the errors.
When I run wsreset.exe, I get the error "ms-windows-store:PurgeCaches. The application cannot be started. Try reinstalling the application to fix the problem". I have been reluctant to do this in case I lose StoreApp altogether after removal and cannot install again.
I can't activate the power and volume icon because there gray. I've tried the regedit method. The icons came back but disappeared at the next booth. Is there a fix to that problem?
View 6 RepliesI have set my external hard drives to performance mode, and recognize the warning that I won't be able to simply unplug them. Basically, I have to use the little green safely remove hardware icon. Nothing new. In Windows 10 however, when an external drive is attached, and I go to eject it using the safely remove hardware, they are always grayed out and I'm unable to do so. Is there another setting I need to do, or is Windows 10 saying that even with the performance boxes checked, I can still remove drives without "safely removing them."
View 1 RepliesWhen I click a zip file all the options are grayed out. If I right click I do not have an Extract option. If I click Send to Compressed (Zip ) folder it makes another copy in the same folder. What is the next step? How do I open zip this?
View 2 RepliesI am trying to configure action centre in Windows 10 but "show app notifications" is greyed out.
It also says, "Some settings are managed by your organisation" but this is a personal laptop.
How to change this ? I've added a screen shot.
