I installed Win10 recently on my PC.
When I try to save to local C drive (Documents) I get an error:
"SAVE AS ... You don't have permission to modify files in this network location. Contact the administrator per [sic] permission to make these changes."
I have looked at the C drive and can see no obvious issues, e.g. 'read only' is not set.
I have a PC, and have been using Windows-7 until today, when I started using the free Windows-10 instead. One huge problem is that Windows-10 changed all my documents to "Read-Only." (Regarding my documents, I use "Microsoft Office Word 2007," which has been working great, and I use it daily!) What can I do to fix this situation?
View 170 RepliesOn Windows 7, everything was fine. Since I upgraded to Windows 10, I have a problem with c:usersftrdocuments (ftr is the user account name)
It is locked to read-only, and when I change it, it immediately changes back, despite me giving administrator privelege. This is messing with so many programs that expect to be able to write here, and the biggest is Adobe Premiere. It can no longer write to the folders it needs to in here and when it offers to switch scratch disks to My Documents, the program craps out - probably because it's running into the same error.
I thought at first this may have been because I changed to an Outlook account, so I switched the machine back to Local - but I still cannot take control of the folder.
All my documents and pictures get set to Read Only sometime after installation. There is no way I can set them back to normal. I have tried every way that is suppose to correct the problem. Right after installation everything works like it should. After some normal use all files are set to Read Only.
Not positive of this but it appeared the files were set to Read Only when I tried to use Xbox after the recent installation. I'm now back to Windows 7 for the third time. The following will not correct my problem. I get a message I need admin permission even when I'm signed in as admiistrator.
CMD
attrib -r D:my-folders
and the files
attrib -r D:my-folder *.*
Properties/advanced/change also will not work.
I play video games and all my games are saved in my documents as many other steam users but the games cannot load any save data from countless games like skyrim, Arma 3 etc. As soon as I remove the read only attribute from the document folder and apply the settings it does the whole apply to all the sub folders and files crap but as soon as its done I click okay and right after i check the properties again and voila there it is read only is checked and i cannot do jack about it.
View 6 RepliesThe documents folder and its subfolders are "read only" which prevents me from storing files in them. I am the administrator and can not remove the "read only attribute." How can I accompiish that? I went to properties for the documents folder and the system appeared to be doing what I wanted, but was not successful.

View 6 RepliesWhenever I try to 'save as' in a documents folder, it flashes up "you don't have permission to save in this location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission. Would you like to save in the documents folder instead?" When I click 'Yes' I just go round in circles to be told I do not have permission??? I have followed instructions to 'Run as administrator' and on a couple of occasions I have managed to save things (I'm not sure how??) but next time I go into it, it reverts back to the same error message. Also it is hit and miss, and near impossible to search and locate any files.

I have seen all the do not work fixes and to be honest getting frustrated, I have changed all permissions to administrator in all boxes checked.

View 9 RepliesI was trying to redirect my game save files in my documents which is on my ssd where windows 10 is installed on to my hard drive when I accidently replaced my user folder with the documents one, now all the files which were in my user folder are in the documents one as well as the games which were in the document file!!!I tried to put it back but the two files seem to have merged.

Now every time I use Word, it also tries to save normal.docx which it can't save, and which takes multiple steps to finally abandon saving. Since word is used by Outlook, it also means that I have the normal.docx style sheet issue when composing mail or opening attachments. Installed Office 2016 in trial mode. No change. Exactly the same problem with Office 2016 as Office 2013.
As with many I have upgraded to Windows 10 today and it is going well except for the fact I am unable to save any files or create new ones in the Documents and Pictures folders or any sub-folders within these folders. For instance, I tried to save an image created in paint and attempted to save it in the Pictures folder, it gave me the error message seen in this picture below:
Note, I am the only user on the system, and also the admin account so I do not know why it says this. Clicking Yes on the box does nothing and the same thing still occurs afterward. In addition, bringing up the right click menu and going to new only allows me to create a new folder, and the windows admin shield icon appears next to it. Deleting files also prompts me to ask for admin permission but in that case I can simply click the continue button and it goes through.
Recently, I connected a new SSD as a USB drive. It shows "Write Protected" in windows 10. However, same one if I connect to Windows 8.1, then the write protection is not there. Can not do driver update under windows 10 as it is write protected.
View 2 RepliesI have a program that I wanted to install into my Win 10 Pro Machine (64 Bit) and have found that the disk can not be read by the DVD/CD-ROM Drive. I also tried it in another Windows 10 Computer (64 Bit) and it also can't read the disk.The disk worked fine under Windows 7, in both the same computers. The drive works as it reads other CD/DVD's.
The disk is good as it works perfect in an other Windows 7 (32 Bit) and Vista computers (32 Bit). Computer is up to date with builds etc.
I was just creating a folder on my C drive (SSD) when I noticed that the attribute is set to read-only. I've tried clearing the attribute many ways using the link below but to no avail. Right-clicking on the folder does not show the option to Take Ownership. how to correct it?

Since I upgraded to windows10 I am unable to watch movies from a DVD. I can read other kinds of disks just fine, just not movies. For instance, I wanted to watch the sixth Harry Potter movie. So I enter my DVD but my laptop just says there is no disk entered. I thought there was something wrong with my DVD at first. But it works fine in all other devices I have at home. So then I thought the problem must be my disk drive. But then I inserted the bonus DVD of the movie, and this one worked fine. WHAT? How is this even possible, both are DVD's, just the bonus disk doesn't have a movie on it. I tried this with all the harry potter movies we have at home and the same occurred each time, the movie DVD does not work but the bonus DVD (with behind the scenes and whatever) works fine. I have searched all over the internet and haven't found a solution. The only thing I find is people of which their Disk Drive isn't found anymore. But this is not my problem.
P.S.: It's a laptop, the details can be found on my profile I believe. And I wasn't really sure in which thread I should post this. As it isn't really a hardware problem, I don't think it's a driver problem (my pc says drivers are up to date) so I assumed it must be a software problem.
I am using am iMac with Bootcamp running Win 7. I have just upgraded to Win 10 with no problems. Except I can now not read my 2 x WD USB external drives. I am getting "the parameter is incorrect" error. In disk management it says the drives are active but RAW. If I connect the 2 drives to any other machine either Win 7 or 10 they are fine, so no fault with the drives. These 2 drives have always been used on the PC in question when running Win 7.
I have tried changing the drive names etc but still cannot read.
My only solution may be to connect the drives to another PC, back up, then format the drives?
"My Documents" has been correctly relocated from C: to E:. The C: drive was getting full. Using the PC, all is well.
The network is fine and my laptop sees the PC, and PC sees the laptop.
However, when I click my [Username] folder on the PC from the laptop, the folders I see are on the C: drive, not the E: drive.
How do I make my [Username] folder on drive E: accessible over the netork?
Other family members/usernames whose files are on the PC's C: drive exclusively have no problem accessing them from their laptops or phones.
The laptop is Win7 and the PC Win10 Pro. The phones are both Android and iOS.
One of my WD Green 2tb drives has become raw and can't be used. Windows will not complete a format of it. Shows up in my computer. Is there any way of saving this drive?
View 6 RepliesI am using Word 2013 on my laptop. Windows 8 was operating system. Recently upgraded to Windows 10. When I save Word documents now, they are saved as Wordpad documents. (.xml files) Wordpad does not recommend some of the Word formatting and alters the documents.
How do I correct this? I want the save as Word documents, as I did in the past.
I've trying out the new preview, 10240. Everything works fine except for the default documents folder (and the same for Images). As my screenshots reveal, by default the documents and images folder are the ones with OneDrive. (My system is in Spanish, but it seems self-explanatory, I believe)
After some examination, I located the "Storage" section in the new settings window and I see that the default folder for Documents is OneDrive. However, after I set to "This PC (Drive C)" it doesn't do anything, as as soon as I close the window, the option reverts back to OneDrive.
I actually like and use OneDrive, and I had no problems with it with Win8.1. So I don't want to disable it.
I tried to do a search but it didn't come up with much. where the Save/SaveAs/Open dialogs don't open and instead the app crashes? I've seen it in Notepad, Paint and Word. If I kill all explorer.exe processes, and then launch for example Notepad from Task Manager, the issue goes away, but as soon as I reboot, it returns.

Except that when I want to save a Word document using "Save As" it prompts me for all sorts of unsuitable locations...My Music, My Pictures, My Videos, and some random programs which somehow landed up in the "Documents" folder. None of the shortcuts I'd like to see there (and which are in the folder, because I put them there!) show up. What to do?
I have w10 on both pc and phone. How can i read sms via pc? The app dont show them, should i use cortana? How?
View 9 RepliesAfter updating to Windows 10 I created a homegroup and now everything in documents is stuck in read only. It's the filled in box not the checked box. I manually uncheck the read only and it goes right back to read only. I left home group and tried unsharing folders but no luck. I'm at a loss in what else to try. Also tried rollback and it fails. Tried reset and it fails. Tried image rollback and fails.
