Why Cannot Go To Inactive Windows From The Taskbar
Feb 14, 2016
Whenever I want to use another window, I go to the taskbar and click on one of my open windows. Now, once I click on it, whenever my pointer travels outside of the taskbar, the window disappears. It isn't closed but it is minimized, and I come back to my full screen window. When I have to open another window, I have to go to my desktop and use it there. How do I stop this, because I'd really like to travel to my other open windows without hassle.

I have installed the Win 10 enterprise LTSB the trial version. So far, so good, with the exception of two details:
- The scrolling of inactive windows isn't working properly. I mean, it works only when the "Settings" window is the active, then I can scroll the inactive windows underneath it, but nothing else.
- I tried to update the system, hoping that it would fix the issue, but it doesn't download anything.
Maybe the update function is disabled in the trial version?

I'm using the Aerolite theme. I would like to have a distinct difference in colour between active and inactive windows (i.e. the window border and the window bar). In Windows 7 I was able to set the active window colour to blue and the inactive windows' colour to grey (similar to Windows Classic). Is there a way to do that in Windows 10? Simply having a darker and a lighter shade of the same colour won't be good enough -- I'd like to have two distinct colours.

I've got a feeling I'm missing something really basic but I am unable to disable the lock screen that appears after approx 5 minutes of inactivity. I've used registry and deactivated it following tutorials but that has only stopped the lock screen on start up.
I'm sure I've got it turned off in settings but it still appears.
Windows 10 Home.

I have a USB flash drive which for some reason is formatted with an active partition.
I usually use Minitool Partition Wizard to set a partition as inactive but for some reason it doesn't work on this flash drive. I also tried booting from the Partition Wizard boot disk but that won't set the partition inactive either. I even deleted the partition and reformatted the flash drive but it popped up as active again!
How can I force the partition to be set inactive? Note it's quite an old USB flash drive so I'm wondering if there something in the hardware which stops it being set inactive?

I have noticed there is a coloured bar underneath each window in the task bar.
Here is a picture of it:
It's that little green bar right at the bottom of File Explorer and Edge (it will be the same colour as your tiles)
What does this bar represent, if anything? Is it just design? Can I remove it?

I need to have my taskbar at the top of my screen but is it possible to make it so I can not drag a window behind it? Several times I have had to auto-hide the task bar just to get at the window to drag it back again.

Whenever I right click my desktop it brings up the usual thing where I can change my wallpaper etc. but when I left click my taskbar's notifications, volume settings or the internet thing, nothing happens. When I right click any of my apps like, skype, steam, origin, web browser in the taskbar, nothing happens either. Nothing pops up. It just stays like that and doesn't work. I have no clue what started it or how to search for a fix.

So, all of a sudden while watching YouTube (with Windows 10), my computer's sound stops working.
So to try and fix this, I restart the computer. But when I sign back on, the taskbar is completely clear of all my previous apps on it and the windows button refuses to work. Even when I right click the windows button, nothing pops up.
Also, when I open up apps on my desktop (like Chrome), there is nothing on the taskbar, so if I minimize anything, I can't get it back!

I'm not sure what caused this problem but it seemed to appear somewhat suddenly a few weeks back or so.
Whenever I right-click a file explorer window (i.e. This PC, Downloads etc.) on the taskbar, I no longer get the option to Close window. The only things that appear when I right-click are a bunch of Pinned and Recent items. Many of the pinned items were not pinned by myself and whenever I try to remove one item from this list, a new one shows up (for example, a random document). I also always disable any option that shows recently used items, so I don't understand why those are appearing either.
I have tried to go into the folder and search options in This PC and uncheck show recently used files and show frequently used folders in the Privacy section, but that doesn't seem to have any effect.

On occasion when I mouse over either the start bar or the taskbar it doesn't change colour like it usually does (the little blue background it changes to for instance) and it doesn't let me click on them. As well as this, it doesn't let me click on any window that isn't the currently selected one. I've tried running SFC /scannow but it says there's no problem, as well as reinstalling windows apps with powershell.
There doesn't seem to be any noticeable way to recreate this happening reliably, it just happens completely randomly. I've found a way to fix it when it comes up, which is to run any program in administrator mode (I usually run cmd in administration mode by opening it with my keyboard and holding ctrl shift enter) and then when the message asking if I want to open it in administration mode comes up, entering yes with my keyboard. When I do this it fixes it back to normal.

For some reason, Windows 10 taskbar is behaving in an odd fashion. I am unable to right click on the icons on the taskbar. I am able to launch the application, sure, such as file explorer etc., with the left click, but right clicking on any icon has no effect.
On the other hand, I am not able to left click on any of the icons in the system tray, but I am able to use the right click to bring up the menu. The same goes for the Start button (Windows button).
So in essence, right click on the icons in the taskbar does not work, and the left click on icons in the system tray, does not work. The opposite action on both, works...
I have restarted the system, and restarted the Windows explorer process as well, to no avail.

I cannot find my taskbar (it's not hidden, no) and the back button doesn't do anything. I've restarted my computer. All the windows I've opened since this happened (last night) cannot be made any smaller, they're all maxed out across my screen and can only be minimized into nothing.
I don't recall doing anything, I just closed my laptop to do something for a bit and when I opened it, it was like this. I also could not use my keyboard at all, until I restarted.

Just upgraded to windows 10 and on 7 I was using Ultramon, a super awesome multi-monitor program. Needless to say, ultramon doesn't work on 10 but 10 has some pretty great multi-monitor functionality already.
I've got two monitors and I have taskbar shown on both and buttons are set to show on taskbar where the window is open. What I'm trying to do is hide the Start Menu, Cortana search, and task view buttons on the non-primary monitor taskbar.
Also, I'm wondering if it's possible to change the Windows keyboard shortcuts? Trying to change the shortcut for switching between desktops to something other than Ctrl + Win + (Left/Right)

at the bottom on the taskbar i saw 2 faint chrome pages that i had visited earlier and closed a long time ago. they were not functional to open and they could not be closed either. they were next to the bright active chrome icon that will open a new window.
what is the problem that faint, closed windows of chrome would be showing, and not be clickable or closeable? the problem seems new, because i don't think i saw this yesterday.
how to fix, i decided to 'reset' 10 and they disappeared.

I have four computers running Win10. On two of them the windows "Start" button on the task bar doesn't work. So I can't get to Settings or Apps. I can right click on the Start button and get the "right-click menu". All of the other task bar buttons work.
What's going on with this? It used to work. For a while it didn't work on my laptop, now that is working but on two other desktop computers it doesn't work. All computers have same Win10 version and latest updates (although hardware differs some between them).
Can I add the "Settings" and "All Apps" shortcut I would normally get left-clicking on the Start button to the Start button's "right-click menu"?

A few days ago, after an automatic Windows 10 update on my desktop computer, I found that: right clicking icons on the taskbar does nothing - none of the options appear; the start button on the left of the taskbar only works by right-clicking and accessing the old Windows 8 style options; the search icon on the taskbar does nothing; the Windows 10 calculator has disappeared - when I press the calculator key on my keyboard a message appears saying "You'll need a new app to open this calculator". It seems to have been deleted from the computer.
Until these things happened Windows 10 was working well.

I'm using Build TH1 10240 with all updates (just checked before I posted this to be sure) dual booting W7 and W10 with no known problems other than the taskbar issue.
The taskbar hides and appears fine when nothing is up but the desktop, or the settings window and other items from the computer but doesn't hide when a have IE up, I'm using IE11, just don't care much for Edge yet, maybe as time goes by I'll start using it more.
Anytime I have IE up the taskbar stays visible and will not hide, I went to properties to reset it, tried this a few times, uncheck the box>apply, then check the box>apply, after I click apply the taskbar momentarily hides and immediately pops back into view.
I know others (Jimbo) were having an issue with this on earlier builds. It didn't happen every time for me, just every once in awhile but on 10240 it's every time.
It's not a huge thing but I've always hid the taskbar and would like to do it on W10 too.
