View 1 RepliesAfter downloading Windows 10, my internet speed went significantly down, from 35 mbps to 4 mbps. I recovered my original Windows 8.1, hoping it was the new Windows that was causing the problem, but my computer is still very slow compared to what it used to be. I know the problem is in my computer because the three other PC's in my house are all working at normal speeds. I ran a virus scan with no luck. Could the Windows 10 upgrade have installed something that's still slowing down my internet?
View 1 RepliesUpon start up my computer is extremely slow and I get this message "cannot connect to Windows service". I can't open any of my documents or connect to google chrome. If I let it sit for about 10 minutes I can access google chrome and my files. I have taken the computer into the local computer fix it shop and they said there were a couple of broken registry paths, no malware and everything ran fine for them. The first couple of time I used the computer after getting it back home it worked great but now I'm back to square one. This is extremely frustrating.
View 2 RepliesMy son's PC upgraded to W10 and was running fine for 1 month. After an update 2 weeks ago, it slowed to a crawl taking 30-60 min to finish startup and 10 min to launch apps. Rolling back to Windows 8 didn't work. Malwarebytes didn't find anything but Chrome/Firefox stopped loading so I am limited in doing further scans. The only thing that works in real time is the mouse cursor. Based on the task manager, the CPU use is low but the C: disk is always at 100%. I don't want to wipe all stuff with a reset.

I did a fresh install on a SSD not to long ago. The computer is running very smoothly for the most part. However, sometimes when I open the lid to my laptop, it is temporarily unresponsive for a minute or so when resuming from sleep mode. It's pretty annoying. I think it has something to do with my USB settings because it only seems to do it when something is plugged in there. For example, thumb drive, external hard drive.
I tried playing with the settings in power settings. I have turn off hard disk set to never. USB selective suspend set to disabled.
google chrome very slow loading and sometimes wont open
View 1 RepliesMy computer is too slow to enter hibernate in Windows 10, it works fine in Win 8.1.
When my PC enter hibernate, the screen turns black quickly, but I see that PC writing to the hiberfil.sys take 2-3 minutes, it's too long, in 8.1 it just takes a few seconds.
EDIT: Tried to disable and enable hibernate, and increase size of hiberfil.sys, and it seem to be faster, about 1 min, but it is still slow compared to 8.1.
So this computer is very slow and It probably has viruses. Windows starts up and cmd.exe starts up. This computer should be running faster than it is right now. I have a 32bit computer windows 7 and it runs faster than this.
View 6 RepliesI have had windows 10 for about a month now and have had no problems. Today some updates were installed and straight after that my browsing speed became pretty much unusable. I have 160mbps download speed and have no problem browsing on other devices.
I cant watch a simple youtube video or download anything and am a bit lost.
When I initially installed Win10, it logged in with lightning speed (from the lock screen). After the update last weekend it takes longer to log in than it did with Win 7. or 8. How to speed up login time?
I'm running Version 1511 (OS Build 10586.3), 64 bit
I have not seen this question on here so far. It sounds like the upgrade will be sent by MS at their will. How would a 2-3 gig download work on a slow, metered connection. I wonder if there will be some other way? I have to do large downloads between 2 and 7 AM.
View 9 RepliesSince upgrading to Windows 10, why is my computer so slow to open a file, internet page even after doing a reboot, it is so slow and sometimes doesn't even open.
View 1 RepliesI have upgrade my windows 7 home premium to windows 10, but i found some problem.
Firstly, I can't change my desktop background / wallpaper, If I change the wallpaper or theme result is always blank
Secondly, if I connect to the internet my computer become slowly
This my computer specification :
Windows 7 Home premium 64bit
CPU i53210 M
Graphic card AMD Radeom 7670m
RAM 4Gb
Windows 10 Home (1511)
64-BitOS
I've had Windows for a few months now and never really had an issue until the past few days. Overall CPU performance/speed is way down. Firefox freezes then recoops every 2-3 minutes, adobe plugin constantly crashing, even to do things offline is crazy slow.
I downloaded Windows Defender probably a week or 2 ago and that is the only big change that I know of done on this computer. I used to run Malewarebytes, SuperAnti-Spyware and Advanced Windows SystemCare. But was told that Advanced Windows SystemCare was the devil and to try TFC (temp file cleaner) & MyDefrag instead. So now i'm running;
Windows Defender
MalewareBytes (free)
SuperAnti-Spyware(free)
TFC
MyDefrag
Is this combination making my computer un usable? Or something else?
So I restarted my computer and router because my internet was being slower then usual. After I restarted my computer it took almost 30 secs to show the log in screen, that's the longest it's ever taken. After I log in it takes about 3 mins to load an application. Even when I attempted to open my windows setting it's slow. My computer is a gaming computer with an i7 and a gtx 970 with 16 gigs of dd3 ram.
View 1 RepliesSo I have an HP Envy laptop. Recently web browsing has intermittently become painfully slow on both Edge and Chrome (e.g. loading this website hung for a few minutes) and I have many timeouts on websites. This appears to be the case even when I use different Wifi networks. I do not have this problem with my desktop which shares the network.
I was wondering in Windows was in the middle of some update, but when I click on Settings -> Update & Security Settings, the control panel window simply loads a white field on the right and the words: Windows Update, Windows Defender, Backup, Recovery, Activation, Find My Device, and For Developers. I can click on nothing. The control panel often freezes (e.g. if I click on a web browser I cannot click back on its icon, but can see it if I minimize all other applications) and eventually auto-closes. When I search for Advanced Windows Update settings, I get a light blue screen with the control panel icon in the center which promptly auto-closes. I can access all other control panel options, just not anything below Update & Security.
I downloaded Microsoft Security Scanner and ran than across the entire system; no threats were found. I currently am running Windows Defender which last updated itself this early this morning.
I am using Windows 10 version 1511 OS build 10586.104.
I used to be a knowledgeable Windows user, but stop keeping current a couple of versions back. Does this sound like anything familiar or previously seen?
I just updated to Windows 10 but I think the problem was with Windows 8 too, Sometimes my internet is out on my PC while the internet is still up on my brothers PC, tho this problem happens about 3 times a very few days.. We have 5+ computers in the house and 4 are on daily while 3 is being used daily the 4th one is not very used daily and sometimes off most of the time. So the 2 computers have Windows 10 and 3rd computer has Windows 7 while the 4th computer has Windows 10 also. I read on an article which says that Windows 10 uses bandwidth without you know and I checked task manager and on windows 8 my CPU and Memory was just fine and when I upgraded to Windows 10 my CPU spiked to about 20% and Memory spiked to about 72% and sometimes random numbers appear on all 4 sections( CPU, Memory, Disk, Network).
View 9 RepliesI'm facing a very weird problem with Windows 10 on my new laptop. Every time I boot up or even wake from hibernate, my keyboard repeat rate gets reset to the slowest setting. I notice this only when I start using word or email.
The weirder thing is, in the keyboard settings window the setting would always be shown as "Fast", but actually it would be slow. To make it fast, I have to drag it to slow and then to fast again.
I'm using an Intel SSD 240GB 520 series. Always loading very fast, i.e., about 8 seconds from cold boot.
Since windows 10 is installed, boot time is about 20 seconds and desktop icons take some time to refresh and load their images.
Regarding the boot time: I've narrowed it down the an unexplained read/write access on my external HDD eSATA which is used for backups, though currently all backup process are stopped.
When I remove / turn off my external HDD, boot time is about 8 seconds. I can't figure out why all of a sudden it required this access to this HDD.
As for the slow icon refresh.. how to fix this.
I updated my PC last night and when it was over, I shut it down. This morning, when I woke up and started it, I tried entering my PIN and it told me that it was incorrect. I tried entering my MS password, which I know it's correct, and it told me the same thing. Now I can't log in on my computer.
View 9 RepliesI have windows 8.1 and I DON'T want windows 10. It is already downloading. I can see green downloading bar in windows update. I had w10 but it was so buggy that I don't want it again. How do I stop is downloading?
View 3 RepliesWe updated from 8.1 to Windows 10 and now the computer will not go automatically into sleep mode.
View 2 RepliesI've been working on my wife's computer that has had Win10 for the last several months. Her computer completely refuses to update Windows anymore. The updates will get stuck downloading at 0% even overnight and it uses up so much of the system resources that the computer slows to a crawl, taking ages to respond to any action, if it does at all.
Things I've tried:
1) Clearing out the Software Distribution folder
2) System restore
3) Windows update troubleshooter
4) Completely reinstalling Win10 via the Reset option in the Recovery menu (choosing to delete all files and programs)
The computer still locks up when trying to download any Win10 updates. The computer is a reasonably new desktop with 16GB of RAM and an AMD 8-core processor (I can get the more specific specs off of it if necessary).
I restarted Windows 10, and it started installing updates. The computer restarted a couple times saying it was installing updates, and eventually it said that there was a problem installing the updates, and that it was reverting changes. It hung on this is screen for about five minutes, and then (my arm touched the keyboard in this instant, not sure if any buttons were pressed) I got a blue screen, with the error code disappearing too fast for me to read and remember it. Now when my computer attempts to start up, it shows the gigabyte 3d bios splash screen, goes to a black screen with a command prompt-esque cursor blinking, maybe five or so lines from the top. At this point it seems the only input it will accept is ctrl-alt-del, which restarts it and leads to the same outcome.
View 1 RepliesDownloaded update last night. Installed this morning. "Getting windows ready. Don't turn off computer" has been on screen for 30 mintues
View 1 RepliesI am trying to find my pictures on my computer and I can't. I don't know if they're in another folder or what?
