Dec 5, 2015Apparently it is my turn: Photos app no longer launches (clicking on the icon does nothing; no error report in Event Log). Trying to double-click image files associated with Photos results in "Invalid Value for Registry" message box. No explanation as to for what value is "invalid" and why it is "invalid".
It appears that the damage is user-account-specific, meaning that Photos typically continue to work fine under different (undamaged) user accounts. So, the only known solution appears to be to create a new user account and set it up from scratch.
Considering that setting up a new account requires quite an effort, this is not a real solution but more of a last resort "loser's way out" kind of measure. Hence the question: any additional information/research about this error? What specific "registry value" is responsible for this problem? I see quite a few reports about this error on the Net, but most of them seem to settle with creating a new account.

Mar 9, 2016I've recently found that I cannot open files with .jpg extensions by clicking on the file in Windows Explorer to open with the Photos app. I can open the files if I use the Open With option and select a different program such as Photoshop.

Oct 16, 2015Where the start menu doesn't open when its clicked on. I have seen other posts with this issue where its an issue with personalization settings under ms-settings. I am unable to open Ms-settings because I receive the error "Invalid value for registry". I tried opening it from the notifications button but that doesn't launch at all. I am trying to avoid reinstalling the system.
I have tried dism /online /cleanup-image:
/restorehealth sfc /scannow
Ran multiple different virus scanners.
This computer is running Build 10240

JPEG Images Won't Open - Invalid Value For Registry
Jan 3, 2016Until two days ago all was fine but since earlier today, whenever I go to "pictures", select a folder and then click to open a file, I get the following error message..

I get the same message regardless of whether it's a new photo I've just uploaded or photos that have been on my PC for a long time.

After a long struggle to import my pix from the camera to Win10 and finally succeeding, I've now another mystery
1. How to put the imported 10 or so photos into a folder? I did it with another bunch of imported photos and now I can't remember how I did it though I tried and tried..
2. How can I pick out the ones I want to send (and how to send them by email?) as I prefer not to delete the ones I won't send, to avoid later regrets. I don't even know how to delete any individual photos....
MS keeps everything a secret - no links to choose photos, or delete them, or send them, or change the order in which they are arranged, etc. I had come to learn photos in Win7 with "Photo Gallery" after a long time - now I'm condemned to the same torture on the new windows!
OneDrive Including ALL Photos On PC In Photos Tab Stream
Jun 29, 2015Even if I mark an album, say, 'my documents' as a "documents" type folder in my onedrive online settings, these photos will still be included in my 'photos' tab stream. that and, any photo ever that's on my PC will show up- not just photos in my "my photos" folder on my PC. it's really annoying, i'm getting gamesave pictures, wallpapers, screenshots, and all kinds of random crap that aren't supposed to be part of my camera roll stream all over my one drive... why is it doing this?

Jul 30, 2015So I upgraded my Surface Pro 3 to Windows 10 last night and so far quite impressed. However it looks like an issue has carried over from Windows 8.1 to 10.
I'm finding that the Photos app cannot see the photos stored on my SD card. I have directed the library to point to the SD card and it is the only location defined in the Library for Photos. This was a problem in 8.1 but as I never used the app I stopped worrying about trying to sort it. However I can see myself using the app in 10, so would like to figure out what is happening.
It's not a case of the app not showing duplicates because I temporarily disabled the option for it to show OneDrive photos and now nothing shows.

Aug 29, 2015I recently built a new PC, and it contains my old hard drive and a new 2TB hard drive. My old PC had Windows 7 on it. New mobo meant I needed to install Windows 8.I started to have issues right off the bat. Sometimes, it would boot to a black screen, and then would boot fine if I restarted. Windows 10 came out a few weeks later, and I upgraded to that. Now, it will try to boot Windows 8, then Windows 10 right after. It will still regularly boot to a black screen first. Additionally, coming out of hibernation often results in the blue screen CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED error.
So far, I have not been able to find anything useful to fix the problem. I did some things in the command prompt, based on other threads' advice, such as running sfc.exe/scannow and dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth. I got Error 87 after running the second one.
Computer Not Working When Coming Out Of Sleep
Sep 13, 2015I set the Power options in the Control panel for the display to turn off for e.g. 10 minutes. When not using the computer, the screen is put to sleep after that amount of time. If I then try to get it out of this modus by moving the mouse or tapping any key on the keyboard I get a screen but NO icons on the taskbar and an empty background (no actief apps). I can see mouse movements but I can' t d launch any apps. when I set the turn off display setting to "never", obviously the computer never went to sleep and everything stays as it should be.

Windows Login Keeps Coming Back
Aug 22, 2015Toshiba Satellite laptop - I did the procedure for removing the windows login using netplwiz. It works once or twice then reverts back to login PW required. The box in user accounts is not checked to enter a user name and PW on this computer. It also requires a login after going to sleep. In the power options, the circle is not checed for requiring a PW and the require a PW on wake up is set to no, on battery or plugged in.

When I look in Device Manager it is listed as a Generic Multi Card usb I can delete it in the device manager but then next time I boot it is back
Update Popup Keeps Coming Back
Oct 3, 2015I have removed it numerous times by uninstalling the KB3035583 update but it keeps coming back like a bad penny. I made the decision last year to go with Apple when this PC dies but things like this make think I shouldn't wait. I just can't afford toi do it right now. Invalid MS-DOS Function?
Sep 7, 2015I have various files throughout my hard drive which error "Invalid MS-DOS Function" if I try and move or delete them however they "work" normally if I try and use them.
I ran a check disk which returned no errors.
I am feeling this may be a format job however I'd like to avoid that if possible ..
E The Directory Name Is Invalid
Sep 6, 2015I am running Windows 10. I had a USB stick in the computer. After an update-restart, I ejected the USB drive, and now my computer is slow after idling and there was a nagging message that asserts itself. First it was something about what do you want me with removable drive E.
I finally clicked on that message, now i get the message "E: the directory name is invalid" Now that pops up before I do any clicking on anything.
I'm not sure if I inadvertantly indexed the E drive, or if its just that the E drive must be there.
Gaming :: Low Res Game Coming Out Of Sleep Mode
Oct 7, 2015Recently upgraded a friends computer to windows 10 and we're running into an annoying issue while playing a low resolution (800x600?) game. The game boots up fine and everything is great until we pause and come out of sleep mode when the whole image on the screen is compressed to half the screen with inverted colors (this same thing happens when the windows key is hit to go back to the desktop and try to go back to the game). The image isnt frozen, you can hear the sounds and see things lighting up. The actions are working on the whole screen but the image is compressed to the left half of the screen. So it seems to me that there's some software issue involving the graphics card since the computer is having issues switching between resolutions?
