My windows is windows 8.1 single languange. I have update all the important and optional update. I have check it with win10fix_full.bat and I've checked it in "windows update" too.
View 1 RepliesI have a problem with a new Dell XPS 13 I bought in China. It apparently does not allow language packs, and I have a really hard time understanding most of the words. I tried returning the laptop and buying back in the USA, but the store didn't accept returns. Now I'm stuck with a basically useless computer that I bought for no reason and I need to install English onto the computer. Any ways I can do this?

If I purchase a copy of Windows 10 Home in store or digitally, will I be able to use the product key in my current install without need to re-install?
View 7 RepliesWhenever I right click my desktop it brings up the usual thing where I can change my wallpaper etc. but when I left click my taskbar's notifications, volume settings or the internet thing, nothing happens. When I right click any of my apps like, skype, steam, origin, web browser in the taskbar, nothing happens either. Nothing pops up. It just stays like that and doesn't work. I have no clue what started it or how to search for a fix.
View 1 RepliesI have four computers running Win10. On two of them the windows "Start" button on the task bar doesn't work. So I can't get to Settings or Apps. I can right click on the Start button and get the "right-click menu". All of the other task bar buttons work.
What's going on with this? It used to work. For a while it didn't work on my laptop, now that is working but on two other desktop computers it doesn't work. All computers have same Win10 version and latest updates (although hardware differs some between them).
Can I add the "Settings" and "All Apps" shortcut I would normally get left-clicking on the Start button to the Start button's "right-click menu"?
Updated to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 two weeks ago.
Had problems with Firefox. Tried to download to replace existing Firefox. CNET site appeared to be correct but something seemed wrong so I killed the download. But.
- The windows start menu doesn't come up when I click on the icon, but if I right-click, a text menu does appear and lets me, for example, shut down.
.- If I click on the Windows End icon in the task bar, the screen flashes but End does not come up. Ditto for the Windows Store icon.
- Somewhere SpyBot S&D was erased, but I was able to download it.
- If I double-click on a photo in Windows Explorer, I get a popup that lists the name of the jpeg and says Invalid Entry to Registry. If I right click on the photo and go to any of the options the photo is opened except if I choose Photo.
- Firefox cannot properly display the Yahoo mail page, though Pale Moon and Opera can.
- I have Avast Anti-Virus and MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and when I run their scans, they find no issues.
I use the German and Greek keyboard layouts, and I often need to switch between them. But windows keeps adding an Englishs keyboard several times every day, which I have to manually delete again. I can't just ignore it, because it interferes with switching between the other two languages. Furthermore, there's no straightforward way to delete English; you have to manually add it first (even though it's already been activated by Windows) before you can delete it.
This problem already existed in Windows 8.1, but at lest there was a workaround. In Win 8.1, you could just add German as a secodary layout to the English language, and then set it as primary. This would fool Windows into thinking that you were using English. This no longer works in Win10, because now it detects that you're lacking a German primary language, so it installs it again for you, even though you're already using it, resulting in 4 installed languages, 2 of which are German.
I ONLY want German and Greek! How can I prevent Windows from adding English every few hours?
Have this problem where your task bar on you other display dont auto hide it is quite annoying.
View 4 RepliesI have the "Search the web and Windows" bar in my taskbar but I can't type anything into it. If I go to "File Explorer" in the start panel, I can search for files.
This worked in the past and I don't know what might have happened to make it stop working.
Is it possible to configure an application so it doesn't appear in the task bar?

The time doesn't appear at the bottom right, none of my apps are displayed at the bottom, I can't access the windows/start key, I can't use Cortana, if I try to use any of these nothing happens, I've tried everything and nothing works, my Settings button has disappeared also due to me not being able to hit the start button at the bottom left or using my keyboard to do so
View 1 RepliesI have a problem with my taskbar. I have 2 monitors and I like to keep the taskbar on the secondary display, vertically at the right hand side of the screen. My other half has a separate account on our PC and she has the taskbar the same way.
When she logs in to her account while I'm still logged in and then when I switch back to my profile, the taskbar is being moved from display 2 back to display 1 - however it stays vertically on the right hand side. I.e. Windows can't seem to remember which display the taskbar is on, but it can remember the location of the taskbar.

Ever since I upgraded my volume button and wifi button are missing the start menu doesn't even pop up and i cant even remove edge from my taskbar... What to do? I'm honestly thinking of reverting.

View 5 RepliesI have Windows10 with dual monitors. When I start Windows the taskbar on Monitor 2 is visible and won't move. If I turn Cortana on and off it resumes auto-hiding but I have to do this every time I start Windows 10.
View 2 RepliesOkay. I have been doing a lot of cloning and migrating an OS before but I haven't done cloning or migrating an OS from dual drives in RAID 0 mode.
It's not my PC. Is it a different approach or is it just like working on a single drive? Can Macrium handle this?
Btw, I know clean install is the best way to go, but I was told by the PC owner that she can't afford to install all her programs back due to time issues, etc.
Installed Windows 10 yesterday and things are just not right. I am unable to reduce window size. If I hit the reduction icon with window just goes away. I am also not able to have more than one window open at a time. Since my taskbar is also broken, I have to go back to start and find the program and open it again.
View 3 RepliesMy system is home built, the boot drive being a Samsung 850 EVO series m.2 SSD. Win 10 was installed via USB, the ssd being the only installed drive. Installation was very quick and easy and once booted the PC performs very nicely.
However, very time it starts from shutdown, on the 1st attempt it reaches the Windows logo and shuts down.. I can guarantee that the 2nd attempt results in a perfect startup. I don't know if this: "BOOTLOG_NOT_LOADED SystemRootSystem32driversdxgkrnl.sys" is relevant.
All drivers seem to be up to date and working. Safe mode it starts 1st time. Fast boot enabled/disabled makes no difference.
Can UAC be configured on Windows 10 on a per application basis? You can stop the message "Do you want to allow this app from an unknown publisher to make changes to your PC" from appearing for all applications but I would like to have the setting of UAC apply to a single app and leave all other apps alone. I know the publisher of the app in question and it is safe. There used to be a program called "Compatibility Administrator" which ran on Windows 7 but is not available on Windows 10.
View 6 RepliesI have a Windows 8.1 PC with UEFI BIOS. I am going to upgrade this Windows with Windows 10. I downloaded the ISO because recently I formatted this PC so inorder to get the free upgrade is a long way! Unfortunately, the ISO I downloaded is an All-In-One type and is about 4.8GB, So for the UEFI to boot the flash drive, it needs to be FAT-32 but since the install.wim is more than 4GB, that won't work. So instead of downloading another x64 bit ISO which would take about a day in our area. I need to know if I can extract a single version i.e. Windows 10 Single Language x64 from the All-in-One ISO?
View 9 RepliesI run a plex server which periodically does highly intensive CPU Transcoding, I have found that the OS locks up if my temperatures exceed 70 C (which makes sense).This wouldn't normally be a problem but my computer takes about 15 minutes from pressing the button to settling into a stable state. To solve this problem I'd like to be able to stream SpeedFan to show me my temperatures and if possible have buttons to send commands back to the computer to turn up fans or turn down the affinity of the application (to reduce heat).
View 1 RepliesI've been running Windows 10 since it was released and nothing really has come up as a problem until last night, I was playing a game on the pc and I got some red dots everywhere, I figured nvidia crashed and thought nothing of it until my entire pc reset now I see a series of white dots on bios loadup and windows loads and just before it gets to the login, my computer resets. When it tries to get into repair mode I don't have any keyboard or mouse input, this is a build I made so I don't have any fancy oem recovery options ( and I was too dumb to make a backup disk).
My build has an nvidia gtx590 , and phenom II black edition, Asus mobo. I haven't d.l or installed any new hardware or software recently.
I have multiple PCs in my house, one that I use myself, and one that is used by the others. Now I need to transfer about 80GB from one PC to the other, and I decided to try the homegroup thingy. Now I never set it up, not on my PC, nor on theirs, but since my bro is still very young, I can't guarantee that he didn't do anything, but I did check on that computer, and the homegroup doesn't exist.
So that homegroup doesn't exist, and when I check from my PC it finds a homegroup. I click join, and when it comes to joining, I get an error "windows no longer detects a homegroup (it can't detect what doesn't exist anyway). So how can I create the homegroup ?
I also want to state that I want to create the homegroup from my PC because this is the PC that stays open most of the time.

Did the free upgrade from Win8.1 about three weeks ago. When I first did the upgrade everything worked as it should. Left on vacation and came back, the computer wanted to do an update, so I restarted the computer. Now since the update my "Start" button doesn't work. I can right click and a text version pops up. My "Search " line at the bottom is gone as well.
I have tried the adding a new user, but it won't let me. I can get to the point where it asks "family member" or "guest" but when I click on either one nothing happens.
I have also tried both directly in PowerShell and from an elevated CMD prompt
Go to Search and type powershell
Right click on the PowerShell icon and select Run as Administrator
In PowerShell enter the following key and press Enter:
Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)AppXManifest.xml”}
Wait for PowerShell to execute the command (a few errors might show up, ignore them)
When everything is finished try to open Start Menu again
Search doesn't work in the right clicked menu, so went through Task Man (and clicked run as Admin) But the command just sits there, I get nothing. Copied and pasted the above text string and when I hit enter I get "deployment operation progress....." it sits there and does nothing after that. How long should I have to wait? When I ran this in Ele. CMD IO let it run for over an hour and it never changed from the original "Deployment progress...." In the PowerShell (admin) I let it run for 15 minutes and nothing.
I also went into Regedit and tried this fix. It didn't do anything either
Method 2: Solve the problem with Registry Editor
If Powershell solution somehow didn’t work for you, you can try to fix your problem with Registry Editor, because your problem maybe lays somewhere in the registry. Here’s what you should do to solve your Start Menu problem with Registry Editor:
Press Windows key and R at the same time and type regedit
Open Registry Editor and navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersion ImmersiveShellLauncher
Click Edit > New > DWORD (32-bit) Value, and name it UseExperienceDouble-click the newly created item and set the value to 0Click OK, close the Registry Editor and then restart your computer.

Virtual desktops but IMO shouldn't each desktop run an application unaware that another instance might be running on another desktop. The OS itself can keep track of shared storage areas etc so we aren't talking here about running separate virtual machines.
What I'm thinking of as an example is say I'm running EXCEL on VD1 and I'm downloading data from the web. On VD2 I should be able to start another instance of EXCEL and download data from another website.
BOTH applications should still run irrespective of which desktop is the active one. I get the impression that the NON active desktops don't still continue to run processes in the background if they are essentially a "shared process" like EXCEL.
I really like how Microsoft combined the old start menu with the new Metro style tiles. There is only one problem though: How do I even change the color for a single individual tile? I know I can change the color of every tile, but how about only one?
