Why Don't Have Sound After Updating Dell Vostro V131 Laptop

Aug 4, 2015

Yesterday I updated my OS from Windows 7 to Windows 10. All seems to be working swimmingly apart from the sound, which doesn't work at all. I checked the drivers and it says that they've been updated yesterday along with the OS change. Oh, I use Dell Vostro V131 laptop.

Drivers/Hardware :: Audio Disabled After Upgrading In Dell Optiplex AIO

Sep 19, 2015

Since I upgrade to Windows 10 (coming from 8.1) in my friend's Dell Optiplex 3011 All-In-One computer, with built-in speakers, the audio has been disabled, and I see the Windows speaker icon is with an "x". In Windows 8.1, the audio was working normally, so it's not a hardware issue.

However, if I plug in an earphone, the audio output is enabled and the Windows speaker icon changes to normal one. I installed the latest version of Realtek HD Audio driver (R2.79), and restarted, but the audio continues disabled unless an earphone is connected.

I first upgraded to Windows 10 and installed the Realtek audio drivers. Then, I performed did a clean install and installed the Realtek audio driver again, but audio is still disabled. When I open the Realtek Audio Manager in Control Panel, only the microphone tab appears. When I plug an earphone, the speaker/earphone tab is visible as it should be, disappearing after I unplug it.

I reinstalled Windows 8.1 in his system hoping to have audio working again, but the problem persists. I've tried installing the Realtek HD Audio driver from Dell supporte page for my product (entering the service tag to be 100% sure), but no luck. Windows troubleshooting is useless as usual, only asking me to plug in an earphone, like I didn't know it. I even upgraded Dell BIOS/UEFI firmware to latest version (A07), but it didn't fix anything.

Info:
System: Dell Optiplex 3011 All-in-One
OS: Windows 10 Home Single Language
Realtek version: R.279

Lost Audio After Clean Install On HP Envy TS M7-J120DX With Beats Audio Quad Speakers And Two Subwoofers

Jul 31, 2015

My PC is the HP ENVY TouchSmart M7-J120DX with Beats Audio quad speakers and two subwoofers. After running a clean installation of Windows 10, my volume icon had an error "no audio device output" / IDT High Definition Audio Codec. The troubleshooting option did nothing. I uninstalled my audio device, and restarted my pc. My sound is back, but it seems that the middle speakers are the only ones working. My volume icon and sound device now is labeled "High Definition Audio Device" which now sounds substandard, just like those cheap tinny speakers you can find at the dollar store. How to recover my original great-sounding original speakers!

Dell Laptop Will Not Turn On (at First)

Dec 6, 2015

I went to Dell and saw that my laptop is compatible with Windows 10. It's a Dell Inspiron 3737. I thought I fixed my issue when I disabled "fast startup" in power settings. It occurs to me that some of my problems were fixed (excessive battery draining).

If I shut the lid and leave it, the next day the laptop won't turn on. I have to hold the power button down until I see the power LED flash and then I can press the button again to turn on the laptop.

Dell XPS 8300 / PC Randomly Shuts Down?

I have a dell xps 8300 running windows 10 pro v1511 which was clean installed a few weeks ago.

Sometimes when I cold boot my computer the computer shuts down unexpectedly on the windows 10 splash screen. I have unplugged everything from my PSU apart from my windows hard drive and graphics card and still get the random shutdowns. I've also removed and cleaned the heatsink/fan and CPU and applied new thermal paste but problem is still there.

I'm not getting any BSOD's or memory dumps.

Dell XPS 8300 / Can't Get Boot To BIOS

Sep 5, 2015

Have a Dell XPS 8300 which came with Win7 Home Premium. 10-12 days ago, finally got my system upgraded to Win10... but, after completing the password, all I get is a black screen.

FINALLY figured out it's because this motherboard came with an on-board VGA and delivered with an add-on VGA/HDMI board... It's truly annoying... but tapping Window-P (keys) gets me to where I can choose "which screen"... biggest rub being I'm doing it in the blind.

Soooo... I want to get into my PC's BIOS to disable the on-board video... at other times, I'd like to be able to change other BIOS stuff like Boot Sequence, etc. HOWEVER... Win10 seems to have disabled the keyboard (no F2, F12, etc) until Win10 takes control and intercepts. Googled and found several "fixes" but none work.

how I can boot this system... and get into it's BIOS... PREFERABLY directly at startup?

Also, why does SHUTDOWN NOT totally power this machine off?? Hate internal lights being on... keep seeing my Ethernet lights blink... and getting tired of pulling the cord?

Can Downgrade A New Dell XPS Laptop To Windows 7

I'm thinking about getting a new Dell XPS laptop. It comes installed with Windows 10. I would rather use Windows 7. My question can I format the the new Dell laptop and install a new copy of Windows 7. Or are there too many driver specific components on a new XPS that need Windows 10 to function properly.

BSOD :: Micro Freezing On Dell XPS 13

Nov 9, 2015

I've just got a new XPS 13 with windows 10 installed on it.

I've got an intermittent problem with micro freezes as I work on it throughout the day. The same thing happens during my scheduled AVG scan which I'm OK with - its when it happens with no apparent reason at all that I'm concerned about.

I've sat simply moving my mouse with my standard programs open (Outlook, Chrome with Gmail, and this forum open, A small Excel sheet, Trillian, SQL Server with nothing running on the only DB) and am experiences spikes in CPU around the same time as the freezes.

In the past I've shut all my open windows down and the issue has regressed but I'm not 100% sure this is a cause it due to the intermittent nature.

what sort of investigation I should conduct to identify this?

Dell XPS 15 - Trackpad Gestures Configurations?

Jul 29, 2015

Just installed win10 in the afternoon and so far enjoying the experience. then again there are a few things I need to get used to, but the one thing I have been getting really annoyed with is the trackpad gestures.

I own a dell xps 15 and was running windows 7 earlier. one gesture on the trackpad that I mostly used was the a horizontal 3 finger swipe to navigate front or back in an app/browser. Since I have installed win10 it seems this gesture is to switch between apps.

I hope you can see how this can get really annoying. I just wanted to know if there is anyway I can configure/disable the default windows trackpad gestures.

Dell XPS 435 - System Keeps Locking Up / Shutting Down

Oct 5, 2015

I have a Dell XPS435 (about 5 years old, I think) that is acting up. Sometimes on boot up,it will just freeze, forcing me to hard-boot. Lately, it just won't even boot up and if it does, it will just shut down sometime shortly thereafter (30 mins or so). I'm looking at speccy specs right now and the temp is pretty high, but I don't know what the median temp is (never had to before now  ) I'm guessing the fan is going out?

the system specs are below:

Operating System
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
CPU
Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.67GHz144 °F
Bloomfield 45nm Technology
RAM 8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 531MHz (7-7-7-20)

Dell WiFi Switch Not Working

Aug 1, 2015

I got a new Dell this year, which came with Windows 7 (Dell Precision M4800), and it was working perfectly until the Wi-Fi stopped working. After hours of research and troubleshooting and updating, I figured out that the one and only reason my WiFi wasn't working was because my hardware WiFi switch was not working. In other words, even when I switch it into the on position, it still stays off.

With Windows 7, there was a convenient fix: go into my Bios, go into the wireless category, and tell the Bios to ignore the WiFi switch. This fix worked, and I forgot all about the problem until I upgraded to Windows 10. The WiFi stopped working again. So I went through all that hullabaloo of updating things, and nothing worked. So I isolated the problem to the WiFi switch.

I went back into my Bios, and found a disclaimer: For Windows 8 systems, the Bios does not affect wireless capability because they use their own OS drivers. In other words, for Windows 8 and up, I can't use the Bios to ignore my broken hardware switch. Here is my question: aside from replacing my WiFi switch, is there a way to turn wireless capability on in Windows 10? Is there a way to make Windows ignore the hardware switch?

I went through hours of customer support as well, and 40 minutes after I told them my switch was broken, they told me, " It appears to be a hardware issue." I do like a laugh, but I actually need my WiFi, I am temporarily downgrading back to Windows 7 until I can resolve the issue. But I really do like Windows 10, so I'd like to go back to it asap.

Performance :: How To Completely Remove Dell Utilities

Jan 19, 2016

I've clean installed W10 on my Dell laptop and then installed my programs including the Dell utilities Dell Support Assist, Dell Quickset & Dell Digital Delivery.

I eventually decided these no longer offer me anything useful and have uninstalled them. However, Autoruns is currently showing the following are loaded:

Services:
Dell DataVault
DellDataVaultWiz

Drivers:
DDDriver
DellProf

Installed Directory:
C:Program FilesDellDellDataVault

I'm no fan of software which doesn't clean up properly after uninstalling it. I've disabled the above services and all is fine but I'm wary of disabling the drivers since I decided to keep the Dell Touchpad driver.

Can I disable these drivers and better still, is there a way of completely removing the Dell services and drivers which their uninstaller has failed to remove?
