Dell XPS 9100 intel i7 3.47 x990 12 gig ram 2 Tb hard drive 1.4Tb free space Radeon R380 /4gb ram. RST not working, but it is running in services. The whole system has gotten very slow. I am talking about just Windows 10. My programs work fine, if I can get one to start before it freezes. Mouse sometime it will work, but not other times. I have to just pull the plug to get unfrozen.
View 1 RepliesI have this weird issue that started when I upgraded to Windows 10. Whenever I open a program or in some cases an explorer window my mouse will freeze up for about half a second, as if the hard drive is bottle necked very briefly. I have two drives in my laptop, an SSD and a regular 750 GB hard drive. My mouse will freeze regardless of the drive that the program that is being opened is located on. This also occurs with a few specific explorer and Windows related tasks.
For example, when closing the task manager or emptying the recycling bin, the mouse does this freezing action, and while this is not a super serious issue it is rather irritating and sometimes the mouse will freeze even if there is no warrant for it. I could be simply browsing the web and it will lock up for a second. Looking at the task manager, there the HDD activity only goes up to 40-50% in some cases, so it is very annoying since there seems to be no apparent cause for this behaviour.
I have no reason to believe my drives are failing since they both check out just fine in benchmark and diagnostic programs such as AS SSD, CrystalDiskInfo and HDTune, I'm just really eager to know what could cause these mini mouse freezes. I don't believe it's a total system lock up since I could be playing music in the background and the music won't stop playing.
I don't know why it's happening but I think it's related with "Microsoft Outlook Comunications" using a lot of RAM.
I couldn't take a printscreen because my system froze after that.
Secondary question: My Calendar app shows Outlook's birthdays even without checking the checkbox?
I have Outlook but I'm using the Mail since it shows at the Start button. Should I uninstall Mail and use Outlook instead?
I've tried googling this so much but cant seem to find any useful fixes. Basically most programs are freezing when I click on Save as or Open. This isn't affecting chrome, and MS office, but paint, rufus, snipping tool are not working at all. Freezes every time. Restarted my computer multiple times. Is there a working fix for this? I had this problem on Windows 8 about a year ago but then I reinstalled when I got a SSD so naturally the problem was solved.
View 1 RepliesI have recently upgraded from 8.1 to windows 10 after it finish installing I reset my computer(Via the recovery tab). I then started installing my programs and everything was going well, but when I logged in the next day I couldn't open Task Manager or the admin command prompt(the normal one works fine), my windows update also takes forever to search for an update and nothing ever happens. It seems to be something wrong with the programs that require admin(I am the only user on the computer so I have administrator functions). I have some error messages but there are a few more. Here are a few: 'This program did not respond in a timely fashion', 'The service cannot accept control messages at this time' and I will attach a screenshot of the longest one.
View 2 RepliesOne night I go on my pc to find out that it doesn't work properly anymore. I boot up normally but when I try to open any program, the loading icon appears on my cursor and after about 10 seconds my desktop crashes. My wallpapers turn from their normal wallpaper element to white plain background (the same way when a program is not responding it turns white).
Even if I am able to open a program, it will take 1 plus minute to open it, and then take another minute to close it. I tried to download drivers but it wouldn't let me because it just crashes.

I can't reinstall windows 10 as I don't have the disc since I got it for free from the windows 7 upgrade, and my windows 7 reinstallation disc is broken, so that's a no go.
I'm having trouble opening folder within folders. For example, I can open any folder on my desktop but when I try to access any folders within that folder they show me this message;
For now, I transfer any folders I need to access out onto my desktop. By the way what the pop-up even means....
When i try opening a folder, an error pops up. That's because cmd is my default action when double clicking. This all started after installing some Windows 10 updates. how to get rid of cmd on my context menu?

For most folders, this works exactly as it should.However, whenever I open a sub folder in the Downloads folder, it opens up in a new window.

"This file does not have a program associated . Please install a program or , if one is already installed , create an association in the Default Programs control panel "
The only way to open the folder is to use right mouse button click and choose open, very annoying to work like this. The only strange thing I see is that when I klick right mousebutton on top it seems windows wants to open my folder with "cmd"...

View 3 RepliesToday,my laptop was awfully slow. When I booted it up it would say "Scanning and repairing D: drive 100%" but this didn't work with anything. When I went to "This PC" to see my D and C drives, my C drive was perfectly fine and it was showing how much GB it has left (___ GB free of ___ GB) but for the D drive it didn't show how much GB it has left. When I try to open it, windows explorer folder would not respond. The green bar which shows your progress of loading the folder (I don't know how to explain) would keep going and even if it reaches the end, D drive wouldn't open. Most of my games were in my D drive and now my laptop is really slow. It takes like 1 minute for chrome to start up.
View 1 RepliesRecently a change occured (after an update?). I have a folder containing only 6 shortcuts, linking to devices or to drives, connected to devices, in my home network. Opening this folder takes about 30 sec. It has to do with those shortcuts that link to drives, connected to devices, which are off.
Apparently, file explorer, when trying to present the shortcuts, also tries to get some info from those drives. After failing, file explorer nevertheless decides to present the shortcut after long waiting time. This effect has come recently in W10. In most cases, the effect is there, but in a few cases, the map is opening normally.
I come from windows 7 and i have not problem to copy delete etc. files on programs. Now every time i search to change file o delete or copy a windows appear ask me a permission..There is a way to disable this warning or ahve full acces to programs ?
View 2 RepliesI was wondering if I could redirect my documents, music and movies folder to a hard drive due to low space on my SSD, But my concern is, will it effect my programs such as Adobe, AutoDesk and other programs currently storing files in this folder? Or will they automatically look point to the hard drive after i redirect the folders to a new location.

View 2 RepliesI can neither uninstall nor disable Cortana. If I end task in task manager it turns itself right back on.
It is not listed in the programs folder. I have even tried disabling services associated with Cortana and they come right back on.
I really do not want this thing. Sometimes I find it running using 50% cpu. What is it doing. I do not have the resources to waste on a program I do not want or need.
Some (3, out of maybe 20) of my installed Programs, all working perfectly well, are not listed in Control Panel -> Programs and Features.

My 'documents' folder suddenly got moved into another folder named 'Doctor Web.' Looking into this, I find that Doctor Web is a piece of security software originating in Russia, apparently quite respectable, but it's not something I ever installed. According to its properties, the Doctor Web folder was created in 2014, but it wasn't on my computer two days ago when a backup I ran had no errors. Today, it choked on the new folder. I'm attaching a screen grab to illustrate the situation.
My question is, is there some method by which I can move the 'documents' folder from the 'Doctor Web' folder. put it back where it belongs and delete the 'Doctor Web' folder? I have access to all my documents, but I am not at all happy with them being spontaneously moved like this. Al
I have a fresh installation of Windows 10 Pro and for some reason when I double click a folder, it opens a new folder. Also the the folders that show in the left side pane, if I click on eg music, it opens a new folder. I have 2 drives and when I open a folder from each and cioy from ssd to secondary hdd, the hdd folder instantly closes. View 2 RepliesI am currently running Windows 10 preview build 10049 on my surface pro (1st generation). Ever since this recent update (and I guess another recent change I made was using a power cover instead of the original type cover) I've been having frozen programs while working on it. They're not intense resource drainers either. I was using it in class today with word, one note, PDF, torrent in the background, and a chat client in the background.
I usually always have these on plus more, but everything freezes up. I can open start, I can't shut down nor restart, can't close my applications (just says waiting for program to respond and loads forever), can't alt + ctrl + delete. I'm forced to do a hard reset by holding the power button. It's happened about 4-5x already. I have a Bluetooth dongle in the USB port for my mouse and a microSD plugged in, which is always there prior to windows 10
I decided to upgrade my computer with a SSD (Samsung 850 Evo 250GB) to speed things up a bit. I did this when I upgraded from win7 to win10. I wanted my computer clean and "new" which meant that after the initial upgrade I removed everything from the old hardware and installed win10 via DVD on my SSD.
I then installed all drivers and necessary components for my computer to work. When all this were done I started playing Diablo 3 and at some point the whole computer froze. I had to hold the on/off button down for some 10 sec to reboot without any messages or reasons to why the freeze happened. Apparently my nVidia drivers wasn't updated to the latest version so I updated them and everything kept playing smooth.
From time to time my computer freezes and it happens at any time. While browsing some page, playing a game, updating the graphics drivers. It doesn't happen often but the lack of feedback really annoys me. I've tried a lot of things but it just feels as if I'm walking in circles since I don't know what causes it and hence can't force it to happen to test if a fix really was a fix.
I have had persistent problems recently with my computer freezing/crashing. This is an HP Pavilion, model 500-123a, running Windows 10 (recently upgraded from Windows 8). What's been happening is that it's been stalling out, both in Word (without broadband on) and on the Web (eg Yahoo, Yahoo Mail). In Word the cursor freezes and will not move, the screen goes opaque white, the blue circle whirls, can't do anything with it, can't shut down, and I have to unplug it and reboot.
This can happen 3 or 4 times a day. In Yahoo, similarly, the screen freezes, the cursor won't move at all, and have to unplug. I used software, PC Health Advisor, to try to diagnose the problem, and it hasn't signalled up anything specifically. From checks I've done, it doesn't look like fragmentation, nor RAM (8GB), nor registry issues, nor a monitor problem.
so 2 days ago was the scheduled day for the windows 10 free upgrade. I was on vacation and didn't get to my laptop that day. So I come back the next day and my windows 8.1 computer keeps freezing and freezing and FREEZING . I then decide to reset it to factory settings and I don't see the free upgrade button next to my date in time so I think maybe I have to update to windows 8.1 sense when I reset it it reset to windows 8.0 . so I spend a whole day updating to windows 8.1 . Now its day 2 and I still cant see the free upgrade button...
View 2 RepliesI have a new PC that I built and i'll include the parts at the end. I'm running Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview. Eval copy. Build 10565. This machine randomly freezes on me(No BSOD) and I haven't been able to figure out the cause. It does not matter what i'm doing whether it be, browsing the web, downloading driver packages, checking email.. etc. I feel that i'm experienced enough to figure these things out with 3 years of troubleshooting experience, A+ certified and i'm a SQL dev.

Right now I only have 1 23" Dell Monitor hooked up to DVI because I wasn't sure if it was the other 2 causing the graphics card to freeze up.
