Why Won't Insider Program Finish Installation

Jul 6, 2015

I get through all of the downloads and part of the installation section and then it get to the part where it has the percent showing with the circle around it. This is the part where it starts to copy files and do the other two things. It get to 3% when copying the files then the computer just turns off.

Program Run As Part Of Setup Did Not Finish As Expected

Aug 1, 2015

So I have an Asus u56e and when I installed windows 10, the two finger scroll stopped working and realized I had to download the new SmartGesture driver for the touchpad, but when installing the new version, it pops up with a message saying :

"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." I tried seeing if there was a new windows installer package, but there doesn't seem like there's any for windows 10.

Showing Activated But Not In The Insider Program

Aug 20, 2015

Before windows 10 was out, I was dual booting my system and I had windows 8.1 and windows 10 insider preview on it. So after windows 10 was out, I deleted the windows 10 insider preview partition and did a dirty install over the windows 8.1 (not an upgrade). Skipped product key entry on install and logged in with my Microsoft account (which is also my insider account).

The thing is now, my window 10 shows it's activated but I am not in the insider program ( I have checked in the settings app and I am not in the program). So did Microsoft give it to me for free? because I thought the prerequisite for having a genuine windows 10 is either buying it or being in the windows insider program.

Systems Will Need To Reboot To Finish Installation

Oct 22, 2014

We've written before about Windows 10's new updating policy, and today we're seeing the real-world result for the first time. The Windows 10 Technical Preview, build 9849, is being updated to build 9860. That update will roll out automatically to members of the Windows Insider program, and it will be delivered through Windows Update. The operating system upgrade is a little more heavyweight than a regular hotfix; systems will need to reboot to finish installation, and Microsoft says that the reboot will take longer than normal.

The major feature of the new build is that it contains the first iteration of Windows 10's notification center. At the moment, it's a simple collection of historic notifications. Microsoft says that future builds will add more capabilities to the notification center, such as the ability to take actions in response to notifications.First major update to Windows 10 Preview, delivered through Windows Update

Before talking about the new things, I will remind you that you are using a work in progress. As Joe said in his last post, we’re sharing things with you even though there are rough edges. This is the part of building Windows that you usually don’t get to see, since we work hard to smooth these out before it typically gets to you. There are likely many small bugs that you’ll encounter, but these are a few of the big ones that we think you should be aware of right away:

In some places the UI design has gone “backwards” temporarily while we’re working on the final experiences. For example in this build we know that it’s harder to join a Wi-Fi network. We’ll make changes to fix that later.Another example of some UI “roughness” is sometimes Internet Explorer glyphs look garbled and items on the Start menu might disappear. Not everyone will see this, it depends on your display driver. We have a fix for this one coming soon. Some machines may wake up and not go back to sleep properly.Microsoft Solitaire and Mahjong games are broken in some cases and won’t launch. When using 2 external monitors over Display Link, you may get a blue screen when you undock. This does not appear to be an issue when using just 1 external monitor. URL...The download will range between 2GB and 2.74GB depending on CPU architecture and language.Wow, that's like 2 or 3 complete Linux ISO's.

Installation :: Setup To Receive Insider Builds But Windows Update Reports Your Device Is Up To Date

Oct 23, 2015

I'm running Windows 10 Professional x64 build 10240 on my Lenovo X220 laptop. I've subscribed to receive Insider builds on the fast ring, but every time I check for updates I am told "Your device is up to date", and no available updates are shown.

Previously it was working fine; I was receiving regular definition updates for Windows Defender and a number of updates for Windows 10 x64-based systems. Then, a few weeks ago I was offered "th2_professional_10525" (at least, I think that was the name), but this update appeared to fail, and on rebooting the laptop I got the message "Something went wrong..." at the logon screen.

I believe build 10565 is now available on the fast and slow ring. I've changed to the slow ring but still get the "Your device is up to date" message when I check for updates.

How can I get Windows Update to recognise that a later build is available?

Update KB3072073 Never Finish Installing - Error 0x8000fff

Jun 26, 2015

Running Windows Update I sometimes get the following error other times I get no error): Security Update for Internet Explorer Flash Player for Windows 10 Insider Preview June Update for x64-based Systems (KB3074219) - Error 0x8000fff.

The bottom line is it never finishes installing. Every time I boot to Windows 10 10130 it starts with finishing updates, then restarts. The only way to break the cycle of restarts is to reset my default boot in the dual-boot options back to the previous OS (I go back and forth between Windows 8.1 and 10 Preview).

How To Delete WU Files That Failed To Finish Download Due To Lack Of Storage

Dec 6, 2015

My SSD only has 1GB of space left, but Microsoft keeps downloading its filth onto this drive, and soon it reaches to limit (I now only have 25 mb left) and notifies me that there's not enough space left for download & installation. But after I allocate the download to the D drive, the crap it downloaded earlier are still in the C drive, taking up all the space. How can I remove these things that I know Windows is not gonna use since it's now redownloading them to the D drive?

Windows Not Activating From Insider Builds

Oct 5, 2015

I am enrolled in the Insider program, upgrading from 8.1. My current build is 10162 and when I check for updates, no updates are available. However, I've been receiving a message every 5 minutes that my build is expiring soon and once it does, I will not be able to boot my pc. When I go to Settings, I am presented with the option to activate Windows, but when I click the link, I am taken to the store with error code 0x80000FFFF.

I'd also like to stop Insider builds and just get regular windows updates. However, when I click the Stop Insider builds button in Settings>Advanced Options, I get a popup that says 'We need you to do a few things to stop receiving builds." with a link that says "how to I opt out..." When I click the link it opens a browser window that just says that I need to click Stop Insider builds, confirm and restart my pc. But I am not presented with that option. I have a little over a week before my build expires, and short of reverting back to 8.1 then upgrading sans insider builds.
