Why Won't Computer Wake Up After Putting It To Sleep Mode
Oct 6, 2015
I have an HP pavilion g6 notebook laptop computer. I have recently upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. I had occasion to put my computer to sleep! I had been working on my college courses for a few hours, when I needed to take a break. I put my system to sleep, but when I returned to complete my assignments my computer would not turn on! It went to an off black screen, and locked up! When at sleep the power indicater blinked, which indicates that it was in sleep mode.
When I tried to awaken my Pavillion it locked up, and the only way to regain control was to manually force it to shut down (i.e. hooded power button down.) thinking this may be due to system clutter I cleaned both user disc & system files using the Windows disk cleaning function, found through the control panel, looked for both HP updates, and Windows updates.
Later I again tried to awaken my machine after putting it to sleep, and had a repeat in the inability to awaken it! A third and the last time I tried to awaken my PC from sleep I noticed that for some reason, and somehow the indicator light was solid, the screen black, and I heard my computers fan running!

I upgraded to Windows 10 and now I cannot wake up my computer from sleep mode. With Windows 7 and 8.1 all I had to do was tap any key and the computer would wake up. Now that doesn't work. I have to press and hold down the power button to force a shut down and then restart. This problem only appeared after I installed Windows 10. How can I fix it?

When I put my computer in sleep mode, it won't 'wake up'. I have to manually turn off the computer and then start it up again. This has happened twice. I'm not putting it into sleep mode until I find out what's wrong and that's exasperating as I normally leave my computer on all day so I can periodically play my games.

I did the conversion from Windows 7 to Windows 10 about 1.5 months ago. This is a Dell Vostro w/Intel Corei5 desktop
All was fine until I attempted to wake the computer from sleep mode recently and got the following error.
An operating system was not found. Try disconnecting any drives that don't contain an operating system
Press Ctrl+Atl+Del to restart
I disconnected the two external drives I had connected and tried again with the same result.
On startup, I've hit F12 to run through the Dell ePSA Pre-boot system assessment and it passes all the tests System, Cables, OS boot Path, Hard drive, cd rom drive, video card, cpu fan, system fan processor and memory.
I have the original 7, 64 bit installation disks, but nothing for Windows 10. What's the best way to get this thing going again?

1. My PC no longer shuts down. It starts to shut down but then never turns off. I have to hold down the power button to turn it off. Really weird.
2. When my PC goes into sleep mode it will no longer wake up. I've pressed every button on the keyboard but nothing wakes it up. The only way to get it back on is to hold down the power button to switch it off, then switch it back on again.
3. Now that Edge has replaced Explorer, I'm having trouble with some websites and also there's an issue with Java. Windows 10 removed Explorer but when I've tried to download it I get the message:
Looking for Internet Explorer? You're in the right place, but Internet Explorer requires a Windows PC.
Well, I do have a Windows PC!

Came across my first major problem. When I try to go into sleep mode (either through the Start menu or pressing the power button), the hard drive light blinks for a second then the screen goes black. BUT... my power light stays on (should be blinking) and pressing it again, the mouse button... nor any key press on the keyboard will wake it up. I had to hard shutdown (holding the power key down for like 5 seconds) for the light go off and had to keep rebooting from scratch.
That's a major pain since waking up out of sleep mode is normally much faster and convenient. To make things worse.... it seems like 10 takes longer to boot up from scratch than 8.1 did. I've yet to see if SHUTDOWN works properly or not. Not a happy camper on the sleep mode issue. It worked under 8.1 just fine.
EDIT: Shutdown goes through a longer process, but ends the same as sleep does...... The power light stays on.
I'm using an HP Envy w/ i7-4510u CPU / 8GB RAM / 4GB Nvidia GTX 850M / 1TB drive
EDIT#2: Now SLEEP and SHUTDOWN appear to be working properly and Windows 10's boot up times are as fast or faster than 8.1 now. It's like a car and trying to clear out the lines of bad fuel before it runs right. Just some weird hiccups.

I put my pc on sleep mode about everyday, but when I try to wake it up, it completely shuts off. I usually have sleep mode on overnight. I've check and messed with some of the Power Option, but they all seem normal.

Laptop does not wake up from sleep when either power button, keyboard buttons or mouse touchpad are pressed. A forced reboot is always required. HDD light off, monitor stays black and battery light and fan still on.
Have had this problem for over a week since downloading and using Advanced SystemCare and Driver Booster. Once the problem occured I uninstalled them but nothing changed. Also there was a few recent windows updates at beginning of March but haven't read anywhere that they are causing similar problems. Have tried the obvious fixes but nothing seems to work.

Asus X555LA
Windows 10 Home
Intel® HD Graphics Family
BIOS version date 14/08/14

I hear the computer turn back on and the light is on, but the screen is still black. My mouse and keyboard are unresponsive (can't turn backlight on). I have to do a hard shut down. When it's back on, it's like it woke up from sleep mode, not a fresh restart.
This just started happening today I think so I did a system restore, but the problem persists. The only thing I remember doing today was updating my ATI drivers.

When finished my work, I choose "Sleep" in the power options. Then, when I want to work again, I hit the mouse or any key, even "escape" amd it doesn't "wake up". After 2-3 minutes, I turn the machine off and re-boot.

My motherboard is a P8Z77-V, with Gigabyte 7950 video card, if that matters.
I did the windows 10 upgrade, and all seems well, except waking from Standby.
If I go into start menu, and choose sleep, everything spins down, and the computer shuts itself off. I am assuming this 'sleep' is some sort of hibernate.
But when I leave the computer over night I come back and the monitors are off,but lights on tower on. I am assuming this is standby mode? Anyway, I can't wake the computer from it, using mouse or keyboard (both USB). Clicking power button on tower does nothing. I generally have to click the reset button on tower and do a full boot sequence. When I log in, I do not get a message about windows not shutting down properly (maybe that message is no more in 10?), but clearly it is a fresh desktop.
I reset all bios settings, and update to most recent bios. I have the latest graphics drivers.
Here is some investigating I did, hopefully it works:
Code:
D:UsersShea.Wilbur>powercfg /aThe following sleep states are available on this system: Standby (S3) Hibernate Hybrid Sleep Fast StartupThe following sleep states are not available on this system: Standby (S1) The system firmware does not support this standby state. Standby (S2) The system firmware does not support this standby state. Standby (S0 Low Power Idle) The system firmware does not support this standby state.
Code:
C:WINDOWSsystem32>powercfg /sleepstudyS0 Low Power Idle is not supported on this machine. Cannot run tool. BIOS settings to check?

My computer will not go to sleep at all unless it is in safe mode without networking (the monitor does sleep then). When I boot it into safe mode with networking, it will not go to sleep (the monitor will not sleep). When I boot normally into Windows 10 (clean install; up-to-date as of today with Windows Update), the computer does not sleep.
Also, sometimes before when I login after a normal startup, the computer does go to sleep; however, nothing displays on the monitor after I press the power button to bring it out of sleep. I tried disabling the "wake" feature for the network adapter (as suggested in another thread), but that did not work at all. My computer's specifications are:

i have custom built computer more than able of handling just about any game with a
SAPPHIRE Radeon R9 290 100362-3L 4GB video card
Rosewill RX850-S-B - Xtreme Series 850-Watt power supply
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 ram
MSI 970A-G43 motherboard
Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM hard drive
and a amd fx6500 3.5ghz cpu
along with 5 case fans and a fan controller to keep it cool. now onto my problem when ever i do anything demanding like play a game it will run fine (with varying time but typically at least a hr) then at some point with no warning it will go into for a lack of a better term (not really sure what to call it) partial sleep mode. the led on the front of the tower will flash as if in sleep mode yet i can still hear everything else working (the hard drive fans everything) but i will lose picture.
The only way to get it out of this partial sleep mode is by completely unplugging (i have tried hitting the power button which typically wakes it up from regular sleep, hitting the reset button moving the mouse everything one would typical do to wake it up from a regular sleep mode and it does not work the power supply needs to be turn off and then turn back on). Thinking that something was getting to hot i run a whole bunch of monitoring software (cpuid and rainmeter) the cpuid i run on a second screen so i can constantly monitor temps and nothing seems to be running to hot the hottest i have seen my cpu and gpu get is like 65c.
I have tried to replicate it by ruing a cpu and gpu stress tester (separate hoping that if one cause it then i know where the problem and together) with no luck of replacting even after running them for like 12hrs straight. Just a few more thing no i am not overclocking i have 5 case fans 1 pulling in through the front 1 blowing out through the back and my cpu fan run by the mother board and 1 on the bottom pulling up and 2 on the top blowing out run by a fan controller which i set to manual and set all the fans to 100%. my cpu is about 2 years old and all the other parts are less than a year old. and i have Kaspersky antivirus which i ran multiple time with nothing found. it did it both when i had windows seven and when i upgraded to windows 10.

My computer (an Asus Republic of Gamers) shuts down when in sleep mode. More precisely, I put it in sleep mode (in 1-2 seconds), but when I open the lid or press a key on the keyboard to wake it up, it starts from scratch, as if I had shut it down.
I tried deactivating Intel Management Engine Interface in the Device Manager as I saw it could be a reason for my problem, but it doesn't solve it. I reinstalled Windows from scratch (from a USB key) and the problem is still there.
I only have the computer for less than a month and I think it worked fine at the beginning.
