My friend just got this computer and hes trying to connect his WiFi to it but its only gives him the ethernet option. How he can connect to wifi instead of ethernet? Its running windows 10
Recently I ran to several problems on my windows 10 laptop. My laptop is 4K version of Lenovo Y50. It may have to do something with recent updates, but I am not sure when it occured. So, first problem is, that my start menu is not working. When I press the start button either on my keyboard or in the corner of my screen nothing happens and the same with search bar on my taskbar.
Also, some of the icons on right side of taskbar aren't working and one of them is wifi. I just can't find a way to connect to wifi. When I tried it on locked screen it said "connecting to the network is taking longer than usual" and did nothing. I also can't open the windows 8/10 special settings, it does nothing wherever I try to open it. I am also not home right now and can't connect with ethernet cable which seems to work.
Product Name: Hp Omen 15
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
Wifi card: Intel Wireless-N 7260
since some days my wifi has stopped working. If I click on Wifi icon it shows only ONE (max two) NETWORK:And I live in a building with 20+ networks, as you can see from WiFi Analyzer (I'm the red one on the right). If I deactive/reactive Wifi with fn+f12, it goes to Airplane mode and to Wifi mode again and it eventually shows all the networks/My Wifi is on the top. If it's saved, Windows connects to it and then it drops the connection; if it's not saved and I try to connect, it says "You're not able to connect to this network".The fun fact is that after some seconds every network disappear and only one is showed (probably the neighbour one..I dunno).
I've already tried to HARD-RESET the notebook keeping the power button for 10/15sec with the laptop turned off.I've already tried to follow these instructions [URL] ... updating drivers (Intel 18.12.0.3, 18.12.1.2, 18.30.0.9 [Windows 10 default], 18.32.0 [Lastest drivers]) with no success. Everytime I install a new drivers, I uninstalled the previous one + Wireless software + reboot.
I tried to uncheked "Allow this computer to turn off this device to save power" on my Wifi hardware settings without success. The HP Network support says I didn't choose a Wifi (Really? The problem is I don't see my Wifi on the list!).This is not related to a new Windows 10 upgrade since I've installed it months ago and It's the first time I've this problem :/ It always worked
I tried different settings too/I changed channel, I set 802.11g on my router, APSD off on the router.I set "Magic packet off, ad hoc QoS off, U-APSD off, fat channel off, incremental throughput off, HT mode off" on the card setting without success. Nothing chaned. The Hardware test doesn't detect any failure. If I go close to the router, it shows my network with full power connection and it connects to it. Then I go back to my bedroom (probably 3/4 meters far), it KEEPS the connection for 30/40min and It drops the connection and I can't reconnect to it anymore. It always worked perfectly in my room in these months (I bought it in March 2015), so the distance is not a problem, I'm 6/7m far from the router. In this case It shows my Network (Connected) and the neighbour network...and the other 20+ networks???
The only way I have is USB tethering with my Nexus 5.I tried the Wifi connection on Elementary Freya (Ubuntu linux based OS) and it shows 20+ networks available on the list. It has not connection problem with my Wifi, but sometimes it stops working, the webpages stop loading and I must reboot Wifi to reconnect to it (usually after 30/40min using it). What's the problem? Is my Wifi card broken?
have a problem with usb drivers according to my control panel which says it is fixing the issue and then tells me to reboot but it is not fixed. Keyboard lights up on start but when the first blue window appears it goes off. I can get into the bios ok and the keyboard works there. only one port is working (USB3). as my mouse and keyboard are usb and there is no PS2 port i am kinda cactus at the moment. Been searching for usb drivers for win 10 but not having any luck. Everything was working fine since November until yesterday.
View 2 RepliesSo i recently updated to windows 10, and i noticed i wasn't connected to my Ethernet anymore, so i had to connect my PC to the wifi. Under my "network Adapters" it only shows "Qualcomm Atheros 802.11 1/b/g/n" I tried connecting another ethernet cable, but nothing happened.
View 1 RepliesI cannot seem to connect on Ethernet though Wi-Fi works OK. I have seen several articles about ethernet problems with Win10.
CABLING
First the network config:
Two notebooks, C and D are plugged into a switch and the switch plugged into the router. Now, the cabling is verified to work because computer C, running Win7 connects just fine and if the internet cables are swapped, computer C still connects just fine.
Computer D however does not connect. I did some other things to redundantly check too, just FYI.
So cabling looks OK.
ROUTER
both computers have fixed (reserved) IP addresses in the router.
The router sees computer C
but not computer D
Just FYI, if I turn on Wi-Fi, the router sees D on WiFi, but not the ethernet.
PING
Computer C can ping D
Computer D can ping C
Computer C can ping the router
Computer D cannot ping the router
Some investigation suggested the following, all of which I tried with no better results:
- Update the network adapter drivers (already current)
- Winsock posible culprit, so NETSH WINSOCK RESET and reboot - no change
IE used to find and fix these things pretty well, but here we have EDGE. Perhaps I'll try to install IE. Connectivity diagnostics are where IE shined over Chrome and Mozilla.
UPDATE: IE 9, 10, etc. are not compatible with Windows 10. So, the connectivity diagnostics just not as good in Win10. I can tell I am getting tired, as it's getting hard not to swear.
UPDATE: Added a pretty picture.
A couple days ago I noticed that instead of having the ethernet in my taskbar that it is connected to wifi. I dont understand that because I have been using hardwire forever. To top it off my xbox connects via ethernet, but my pc wont. have tried the same cable that connects my xbox. I am pretty sure this is causing serious game lag, and i dont know what to do at this point. i cant access my router settings either. i type 192.168.1.1 and it doesnt load. that is the same ip address that i have always used before.
So this solution did work in a sense. Once reinstalled my drivers, my computer did detect that there was a ethernet plugged in, but it said the there was no connection. I disabled wifi on the computer, so it can only connect to ethernet. even tho it says that there is not internet connection through ethernet, everything is working great. It permanently has the Caution symbol over my internet.
I have a odd bug which is causing some of Windows 10's Features to not work. I am using an Ethernet cord, I can still connect but in the bottom it's showing Limited connection and when I click on it, It's showing No Internet and nothing is popping up.

I was wondering if it's possible to utilize both WiFi and ethernet in tandem. I'm pretty sure some of you are going to tell me that I can only access the internet through one of these, up to my bandwidth limit, but that's not what I mean.
I'd like to access the internet through my WiFi connection, yet have a wired connection through my router to access the files on the other computers in my house.
I have been unable to do a direct cable connect. Settings are not available. In settings, to do a cable connect it asks for a name and ISP. There isn't any. I never had a problem doing this before and I can do it with my apple computer. It has now been 2 days trying to figure out how to do what should be the easiest connection. No problem with any wireless----not everyone has wireless! Your microsoft stores have a long way to go to match the apple stores. If you can't get a connection to the internet it is very difficult to communicate or download any patches.
View 6 RepliesMy computer wont connect to the internet via ethernet cable. It works when the cable is directly connected to the modem, but when I run the cable into the wall output it wont connect. Ive tested that there actually is internet through the cable in the wall by connecting it to my Macbook, and it works perfectly. what can I do to fix this?
View 1 RepliesLast night I have updated my laptop (Alienware mx17r3) to Win 10 Tech build 10041, updated all my drivers now my display port is not working, When booting I can see it showing BIOS and post screen but once I am in windows just goes dead with a msg no display port detected. Running my laptop screen, dell ultrasharp-u2913wm (Display port) and dell S2340L (VGA) port. On VGA both screen works fine no problem but as soon as I try running on display port dead as a doornail. I checked device manager its not even detecting the 3rd screen. Have updated latest drives from intel and ran windows update but to no avail.
View 1 RepliesHow to solve my various BSOD events with windows 10. My windows logs are also full of critical errors.
Essentially, every few days, (I can't replicate the issue at will), after I've used my laptop (Fujitsu u904 Lifebook) on it's docking station (Network via Ethernet), when I reboot off the docking station (Network via WiFi) I get a combination of errors. These range from:
- a message saying that Windows was unable to start the The Group Policy Client
- a blank desktop with no shortcuts
- clicking on the start button doesn't work (but the windows key does)
While not all thee errors happen together, what does happen is that I'm unable to connect to Wifi and the network icon is not visible in the tray.
I know error this is about to happen, because when I power down from the docking station (I never take or put my laptop on/off it without it being powered down), I hear an error sound and then when next rebooting (off the dock), the Wifi symbol on the lock screen before entering the password has changed to the Wifi symbol with a small circle at the top left. Sure enough my windows event logs show various errors including a number listed as error No 7031,
I'm not a techie but read elsewere that if this happens, entering "netsh" & "winsock reset" from the admin screen does solve the problem after rebooting, but I'm having to do this every couple of days.
I've attached a download of my laptop's data.
There is 2 computers and 2 virgin superhubs in the house i live in (not both mine) both ethernet connected. Occasionally i have to unplug my superhub and connect my desktop computer to the Wifi on the other hub which is in the next room.
My computer obviously "remembers" the password for the WiFi and i used to be able to just unplug my hub and it would automatically connect to the WiFi without me having to do anything.
Since switching to Windows 10, when i unplug my hub, it says that it is connected to the WiFi however it says "limited" and no websites work, effectively not connected even though it says it is.
To solve it i have to leave my hub unplugged and restart my computer and it connects instantly and works. Whilst that isn't a huge problem, i sometimes could do without having to save what i'm doing just to restart the computer as i have never had to do this before.
So I've got a simple question really when a laptop is connected to a WIFI network then a Ethernet connection is plugged in which one will it use as priority?
View 3 RepliesMy Internet through ethernet and wifi were both working fine yesterday and now nothing..
I've tried troubleshooting, Driver installs, ip config, firewall settings, and spent hours reading forums but just can't sort it.

The same problem also occurs in reserve if you get me. Disconnecting the Wifi and then plugging in the hub, it also says limited connection until i restart the comp. Virgin Media have been of no support whatsoever, to be honest I didn't expect them to be as it seems like a computer/windows problem.
My laptop is for some unknown reason not connecting to the internet via wifi or ethernet. It will also not diagnose the problem as it says The Diagnostics Policy Service is not running and it cannot fix it.

So for about 2-3 months I've been running hardwired Ethernet internet instead of wifi. I keep my Dell plugged into my tv. The other day I tried to move it and use wifi in another room but I have no option. When I first started with Windows 10 on release day I was using wifi with no problems and when going the Ethernet route it was always plug n play when you going to wifi vs wired.
1. Even after unplugging the Ethernet cord the symbol doesn't change to a wireless symbol the Ethernet symbol just has a little red box.
2. Tried turning airplane mode on and off as well as full pc reboot
3. Right clicking internet from the bottom right of the screen image and clicking open network and sharing doesn't give any wireless options
4. I've tried troubleshooting also with Ethernet unplugged and no success.
So just to repeat Ethernet works perfectly. Wifi used to work. My roommate who also is running the same version of Dell wifi works perfectly. Same account and everything.
The only thing I can think of is the pc updated one day as I have automatic updates and it wiped the driver maybe.
I have a kind of big problem with 10 Pro. My problem was "ok" in 8/8.1 Pro. As title says, I would like to give WiFi priority over ethernet. Why ? You may ask, I'm using laptop as a hyper-v machine ( prepare migrations from 2003/2008 to 2012 and others IT Admin things ). I know where to change priority but Settings aren't saved. Even after setting WiFi on top of ladder, after going to the settings again it's 3'rd. That way I have no internet connection because of my VM Networks and their DNS settings.
View 1 RepliesMy desktop is connected to my router by Ethernet. However, the printer I use is in my wife's office on another floor. It is a wireless Epson Artisan 730. I have added a Dlink DWA-171 wireless usb adapter to my desktop to print wirelessly to the Epson.
However, every time I want to print, I have to disable my Ethernet connection so the WiFi connection will see the printer. Then I'm done printing and I re-enable the Ethernet (faster, more stable).
Just unboxed my computer from CyberpowerPC, GTX 720 graphics card, installed/updated all drivers with drivereasy (paid for just now) and I am still having the issue with HDMI port not working. I have tried to plug into a monitor and a TV, neither are working, I have also tried to use multiple HDMI cables, still does not work. My monitor has an auto-switch source availability and turned on, when I plug my computer into the monitor with HDMI it continually cycles, finds no signal and goes into sleep mode. Then rinse/repeats until I either turn off the computer, monitor or just unplug the monitor from the computer. Currently I am using a DVI(computer) to HDMI (tv) and its working fine. So I know its the port on the computer. Do I need to contact CyberpowerPC to send the computer back to get this issue resolved?
