View 10 RepliesI had a power outage a few days ago, and now my Windows 10 Pro has random Blue Screen problems.
My system was running fine before, did the Windows 10 Upgrade from Windows 8.1 Pro no problem.
I'm pretty sure the outage stopped my machine and potentially corrupted files.
I just happened to have new ram for the machine that I hadn't installed yet, so I put that in just to make sure my RAM was good.
The Blue Screens happen at random times, even when I haven't touched the machine after reboot. It will just blue screen again after a few minutes to a couple of hours.
I have the Samsung XP941 and ASRock Z97 Extreeme 9 Motherboard.
I'm hoping it hasn't damaged my Samsung card/HD.
It's hard to tell anything with that M.2 SSD drive.
No real diagnostic software or firmware stuff from Samsung anyways.
About 2 weeks ago I was upgrading Windows from 7 to 10. wehn at about 35% through there was a power outage and all power was lost.
When the power came back on, I switched my computer on and the screen was blank, power was getting to the screen, it came up with the ACER brand name and then said 'signal lost' and turned off.
The computer does something, but I'm not sure what as I cant see anythign on the screen, I connected 2 different monitors to get the same response.
What can I do to get the computer working properly, I'm not sure if the upgrade was sucessful or not and need to get information from the the PC.
what I can do to get the use of the computer back again without deleting all the data on it, or how I can transfer the files to another PC.
I recently updated my HP ENVY laptop from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 & immediately started having issues with my WIFI speed. I was able to connect to the wireless network just fine with no limited connectivity, etc but the speed crawls. It's only my laptop...all other wifi devices are running with no noticeable difference. I went through a bunch of troubleshooting steps and couldn't get it to improve.
I was able to figure out my wifi speed is great when my laptop is connected to ac power, but immediately drops speed when unplugged. All of my initial troubleshooting was on battery power.
I checked the driver Power Management tab and unchecked the Allow the computer.... option. Also Control Panel-Power Options and changed the Wireless Adapter Settings to be on Maximum Performance for both On Battery & Plugged In.
Realtek RTL8188EE 802.11 bgn Wi-Fi Adapter with updated driver.
Latest driver installed, StarTech USB300WN2X2D, Mediatek/Ralink RT3572L
View 9 RepliesOk so got a new usb WiFi adapter. I installed the driver first which I downloaded on my phone then transferred to my pc via usb cable. Have tried reinstalling multiple times, still won't work. I'm guessing the problem is there's no win 10 drivers for it. NOTE: I did have a old usb adapter working with no driver before but not even that's working even with drivers uninstalled. The new adapter shows up in device manager with a problem indicated with a code 10.But not in network devices.

View 1 RepliesI recently upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 10. When I power down the system from the menu, my computer does not completely turn off. The procedure I use is described below:
Click Windows_Start_button > Power > Shutdown
The system closes applications and appears to initiate a shutdown procedure. Everything appears to be shut off, but my mouse is still lit up. I do notice that the fan stops and everything else appears to be completely shut down. When I was running Windows 7 before my upgrade, my system completely powered down.
I have a dual boot system with Linux, and when I power down from Linux, the shutdown is complete, so I don't think I accidentally did anything to the hardware or BIOS.
my cd drive icon was showing and working then stopped showing up. I did as much research as I could and purchased AVG driver updater and it worked for a few days and won't work again.
View 1 RepliesI have my laptop at work and have had no trouble connecting the company WiFi (they have Guest WiFi and a WiFi where you need to enter your company provided Username and Password). I have been connecting using my Username and password. Today I had to change my company login password. Now when I try to connect my laptop I get a "can't connect" message because the password saved in my laptop is no longer valid. But I can't find a place in Win10 to enter my new password.
I remember the first time I logged onto the company WiFi a Windows popup came up asking for my Username and Password (which was saved so I didn't need to enter it again - until now). This time not getting the popup - it just says "can't connect".
Running Windows 10 on a Dell Latitutde I was trying to setup a Netgear Wifi Extender because the Fios Router does not reach all the way to the other side of the house. I did the setup (so I thought) the way the manual told me and my computer was trying to connect to the extender, but it just stayed in "Connecting..." For a long long time. Eventually I gave up and thought I'd hit the reset button on the extender and try again.
Now my wifi adapter finds NO networks. All my other devices see all the networks.
The only other time this has ever happened I had accidentally hit the network adapter switch on the side of the PC, so I'm 100% sure that's not the problem and that it is 'on' in the settings. I've tried restarting the pc several times as well as toggling the adapter on/off, airplane mode on/off, and the switch on the PC on/off.. And it still sees no networks..
I have just replaced my WiFi card from (BCM943228HMB) to BCM94352HMB. Before replacing my WiFi card i done the following:
Made computer boot in safe mode with networking.
After that i replaced the card, then booted into windows 10 (safe mode with networking) and checked device manager. Everything was OK (See attached picture). I then tried to turn on WiFi, but it does not turn on.
After installing windows 10 I found that my pc would not power off.
View 2 RepliesIs there a way to put a shortcut on the taskbar that would perform a shutdown when clicked? And another one that would perform a restart?
View 4 RepliesI have all the setting I can find that when I close lid to laptop it does nothing when plugged in. I have it set to do not sleep unless I tell it too period. Yes went through 'all' settings. So it will run scans, maintenance etc during night but like lid closed. But when I get up and open lid it wants me to sign back in and scan say it couldn't run.
View 1 RepliesThe power icon, which isn't being displayed on the taskbar, is not selectable in the SETTINGS area, as described here...

View 2 RepliesThe Power options on the Start Menu has 3 items: Sleep, Shut down and Restart. I've created a shortcut to lock the screen, which is on the desktop. Is it possible to include it in the Power options?
View 3 RepliesThis has gone from bad to worse. It started with an error message when I went to close down, to the effect that the Start Button wasn't working and would reset on restart. I restarted; it didn't reset. I could use programs but the Start button still wouldn't work. I tried to restart in Safe Mode, but the computer wouldn't go into Safe Mode -- I got the screens that let me select reset but the final step that would select Safe Mode with Networking just got skipped. I'm a little sketchy on what I did next (I got kind of ticked and had to step away from the computer for about a week to cool off, and I'm afraid I didn't write out a history while it was still fresh in my mind) but I tried a variety of things to force it to start in Safe Mode and the result is that it doesn't start at all now: the power light comes on, but the screen stays blank and there's no action on the drives. Should I use my laptop to create a USB Recovery Drive to start the desktop computer on?
View 9 RepliesMy brother favors to choose Shut down when I close the Lid, whereas I prefer Sleep mode.If I change, it changes for my brother's account also.I do not want this.I suspect there might be something useful in Group policy>user configuration but I am not sure.
View 1 RepliesWin 10, had power cut, will not restore, seem half back to 7, nothing happens on bottom left windows button at all, and no edge browser. Stuck in no mans land.
View 13 RepliesI own a Gigabyte P34G V2, and it's a laptop, but it's been designed with a special USB 3.0 port to use for charging. This port should charge at 1 amp, compared to a usual USB 3.0 port's 0.5, But it has some odd behavior on my Winodws 10 OS for me.
So, the Gigabyte Smart Manager I have has charging enabled, for sleep and hibernation, everything on, and I got a USB power checker to check voltage and amperage.
Every other port on the laptop does 0.44 Amps, but this port refuses to work properly.
When plugging it in, it will spike up to 0.88, and then stop outputting power altogether, before turning back on at 0.44 Amps.
I post this in the Windows 10 section because I believe the issue has to deal with drivers, and not with the hardware or anything, I have BIOS settings set for it to charge as well.
I'm using an Intel Compute Stick as a dedicated processor to remote-control some portable audio equipment. To assist portability, the power supplies for all the gear are to a single plug and it's all made to be turned off by simply "pulling the plug" (i.e. no shutdown process). The Compute Stick basically being a fully functional Windows 10 device, it is NOT made to be powered down by simply "pulling the plug."
It's somewhat annoying to have to reach in the rack to power up/down the Stick before I can move it, doubly annoying to have to sit there and wait for it to shutdown, especially if it *decides* it feels like doing some other kind of business before it gets around to my shutdown request. The annoyance factor is increased as there's no attached screen or HIDs to give confirmation that the shutdown request is pending.
So, my question is this: Is there any way to configure the Stick PC in a way that ensures it avoids the adverse effects of being powered down without a shutdown sequence?
I have been having problems with bsods, and I found out it is kernel power 41. Here are my specs
4690k stock
980ti evga acx+
1000w evga supernova g2
z-97 a asus
cooler master 212 evo
Windows 10 operating system (legit)
temps never go over 70 for cpu and 80 for gpu
Happens after 2-4 hours of playing intensive games (GTA V, Battlefield 4, etc.)
tried sfc /scannow, no errors. I also reverted all my bios settings.
I think I have a driver problem.
I recently upgraded from windows 8.1 pro to 10 pro using the media tool. I've run in to some issues here and there, fixed some, but one i cannot figure out involves the system powering on after a crash.
Usually when i am not using my rig i put it in hibernate(which i had to add to the start menu in 10). for the first day or so this was not an issue. however now when i wake it, this is what happens. My mobo splash shows, and the black windows 10 load screen with the windows logo shows up, but before the spinning dots start, the system just powers down. i hit the power button, and it will load properly, though snail slow compared to 8.
Thing is, it always does this on first boot. It doesn't matter if I am waking from hibernate, or sleep, or had actually shut down and am booting cold. but it will always start after that, so far at least.
It also takes quite awhile to boot. with 8 i could wake from hibernate in a matter of seconds, maybe 30 seconds from cold boot. its much slower than that now, often sitting at black screens between the windows load and green load, or the green load and login, or login and desktop. I am uncertain if the slow load is related to the boot crash.
So i just upgraded from Windows 7 to Win10 a week ago and everything went smooth as silk. I will said this is the first time i can remember doing an in place upgrade, I always format and do a clean install about once a year but ive been busy so i took the lazy route.
Issue is i have my power settings set to None and my power options set to turn the monitors off after 10 minutes. I have it set to Never sleep. After the 10 minutes passes the monitors power off as expected but when i move the mouse or hit keys on my keyboard it takes at least 10-15 seconds to initiate the monitor power on. This was 1-2 seconds in Windows 7. Its pretty minor but its irritating as hell.
