Will Not Recognize The DVD / CD Drive Since Installing

Feb 10, 2016i have windows 10 installed and generally like it. and the only thing holding me back from using edge, is there is no extensions for it. But the problem i have is that it runs fine, but suddenly it will no longer recognize the hard drive, and even startup diagnostics cant fix it. then ill have to stick the windows 10 usb in and boot that way and once im up and running using that method, i can pull the usb and windows 10 will boot normally to my hard drive.

Dec 15, 2015I'm having an issue with my system where, while my G430 USB headset is plugged into 1 of the 3(2x2.0 and 1x3.0) USB ports on the front of my case the other 2.0 USB doesn't not seem to work or rather Windows 10 PRO won't recognize my USB key(I've used tried multiple USB keys already). I hate having to disconnect my headset every damn time I'm sitting here waiting for a file to be copied onto my USB!

Sep 27, 2015Ever since the transition to windows 10 the dvd drive will not recognize,read or view any disc i put in, it says please insert a disc into drive E:. However my brothers laptop can view,recognize and read the disc.

Aug 6, 2015After receiving the W10 download, I installed a WD My Passport backup external drive. I made a system image backup and system repair disc of W7, and I backed up other files, and uninstalled & reinstalled BitDefender Total Security 2015. At first it seemed to run well or adequately, although slowly, notwithstanding that I had cleaned everything.
Then I discovered a message/warning from W10 that I should check the settings & do a backup, enable File History, that no usable drive was found, and to use an external drive for File History, and to connect a drive or use a network connection.
I googled all these issues to find answers/solutions: I checked in Device Manager, Computer Management, System Configuration. I was able to see that WD My Passport was displayed as running properly, with "healthy" status, with 866 GB of free space, and I could see it listed as in drive .
I think that I do not know "how to connect a drive or use a network connection." I clicked on "add network location, it opened to select a folder, I selected several, but none were acceptable, so I had to leave it the way it was, Network Location (1) My Media: Lizzie-PC.

Nov 21, 2015After installing Windows 10 (I had 7 before), my computer does not recognize the D: Drive at all.
I have a Lenovo H410 Desktop (Lenovo Windows 7PC).
My scans show that all my drivers are updated, but there does not seem to be a driver for the disc drive.
Is that what I am missing? If so, where I obtain it? I have tried the Lennovo website, but am having some trouble getting to the drivers.

Dec 12, 2015Early on in the Windows 10 update process, I was able to upgrade an HP Stream 7 and a Stream 11 to Windows 10. Both had the same 32GB RAM and nominal 32GB eMMC as the Stream 14 I am wrestling with. Both came to a point where they told me the device had insufficient space on its C: drive. In both instances I selected an external Micro SD drive, and off it went with the upgrade.
In this instance I cannot get past that point. I select the external drive (a 320GB external USB spinner) but it doesn't accept that or any other external device I offer it.
When I click "Refresh" it says that it needs 10GB on C: drive, and eventually says that the upgrade failed.
The computer has been wiped, and reset to factory spec for W8.1 with all updates installed. It has ~20GB on C, and 7GB in another partition, so even if I find a way to remove the partition it wont be enough.
I'm about to have to give up on this thing and just make the poor user run with W8.1 until further notice, how to get past this point.

A couple of questions concerning the W10 installation from a bootable usb ISO image - will the hard drive require prior repartitioning, and what do I do when the install process asks for the license key ? AS I recall, installing W7 without a key only allowed 30 days of use.
Gaming :: Installing PC Games On Different Drive
Dec 30, 2015I have Windows 7 pro installed and then upgraded to windows 10 with latest updates etc for it. it is installed on C drive like normal. i have another hard drive G that i use to install bunch of PC games ranging from new to old. I noticed that when some of the pc games want to install Direct X componets, MS .net redistro packs etc an error occurs saying i do not have Admin rights to do this. I know Win10 comes with Directx 11 and that the pc games have direct X 10 so i do not need that updated every time a game asks same goes with the redistro packs for .net and other comparable components do i need to install these components everytime i install a game? why am i getting an error in which i have to be an admin when i already am in the admin group.

I'm having some issues with my PC, (not bad, resolved easily from just a clean install) and i'm going to use the windows media creation tool to do a fresh install of windows on my drive. Now my PC came with windows 8.1 pre-installed, but since i HAVE upgraded to windows 10 already, it won't download windows 8.1 right? Also, since i already have windows and everything working on this drive, will i need to do a factory restore before using the media creation tool, or does it clear everything on the drive anyway when i use the creation tool?

Aug 5, 20151. Have a business machine with Windows 7 Ultimate.
2. Just built a bigger, faster machine to replace my older business machine.
I do not want to upgrade my current business machine to Windows 10.
3. I want to install Windows 10 on my new bigger, faster machine before I start installing all my business apps onto it and testing it before retiring my current machine.
My new machine has a blank SSD drive without any OS on it.
I own a few Windows 7 licenses in Home, Pro, and the one Ultimate currently used.
Do I have to install Windows 7 first on my new machine in order to get Windows 10 on it, or is it possible to put Windows 10 upgrade on it directly, bypassing a Win 7 install?
And if possible, how do I deal with the licensing? I have the Win 7 licenses, can they convert?

Dec 10, 2015I decided I will make my notebook laptop into a gaming PC. Before you think; Laptop.. Gaming PC? It is a beast of a laptop and it has beaten many desktops at video games, applications ect. One of the main problems I have with this laptop is that it is amazing but when it gets to a certain point it just stops performing as well as it should, I checked task manager and the Ram was pretty low, the CPU was pretty low, the Ethernet connection was fine but the Hard Disk Performance is sky high (Even when I am doing totally nothing. Bearing in mind the read speed was 6.5mb/s and the Write speed was going under 135Kb/s (135Kb Max). So I decided I needed to get an SSD but how to install one or transfer my laptop data to an SSD.

Nov 29, 2015I have an HP Stream 7 that only has 32 GB of space. I put in an SD card and changed the default location in "Storage" to install all new apps to the SD card. Whenever I try to install an app now, I get an error and will not install. When I changed it back to install on C, it downloads and works fine. Is there any work arounds? I saw that someone mentioned they installed the apps to C, and then moved them to the SD card.

I know that the file extension is correct, and the file is not corrupted.
I didn't ever have this problem when using Windows 7.
Pc Install Disk Does Not Recognize SSD
Aug 10, 2015I want to clean install Windows 10 on another hard drive. When the custom dialogue comes up and it asks me which hard drive I want it to go on to, it does not give me the hard drive I want to put it on as an option. It is a 160 GB SSD. Windows 10 was registering it as a removable drive. I have a dual boot system and Windows 7 does not register it as a removable drive. It' s been working well as in internal drive for a couple of years until this Windows 10 thing.

Dec 3, 2015A month ago I installed ~dozen 3rd party fonts - Stone Sans and Stone Serif (all OTF) - and all was fine. I was able to use them in InDesign and Word. Today, neither program sees the fonts and they aren't listed in the Control Panel -> Appearance and Personalization -> Fonts directory, even though I installed them there a few weeks ago! When I go back to the individual font file and install, I'm told (by Win10) that they are already installed. I reinstalled them (just in case) and they still don't show up in the Fonts directory, nor are they accessible in ID or Word. So although I reinstall them, they are still "invisible" - I can't find them or use them. These are fonts I use a lot so I can't just use other fonts. I bought them from myfonts.com so they are legit copies AND I've used them on this laptop (Thinkpad Yoga 14) just a few weeks back.

Nov 27, 2015I ran Windows 8.1 on my desktop machine a few months ago, and later upgraded to Windows 10. Everything worked great at that time, but since have replaced Windows with Linux. Now I'm trying to install Windows again, with the same 8.1 disk that I used for my earlier installation, and my ethernet connection isn't found. (this is a direct wired ethernet, not wireless) I've installed with a local user account, dug into every networking utility in Windows, but whatever I do the internet goes undetected. I've run the ethernet thru different routers, and even circumvented the router all-together, but no luck. Has my 8.1 disk "expired"?

Oct 26, 2015I had updated windows 7 home premium to windows 10 then when the update was complete I created a backup image of the whole system.... and saved in an external HD. then my fixed disk died, replaced by a new fixed HD I can not recover the backed up windows ten image from my external HD ... is that due that when replaced the new HD I am contrived to recover the system with windows 7 home premium and windows 7 do not recognize the backed image of windows 10?

Sep 1, 2015Two days ago I got home from work and turned on my computer, which is a little over a year old and has never had any problems before. It wouldn't boot up. It said something about the ivp4 or ivp6 or something along those lines. Whatever. Anyway, I restarted a few times and eventually went into BIOS and didn't see my SSD listed anywhere... Only the ivp4, ivp6, dvd rom, and my HDD. Ok. So I reconfigured my settings, put the HDD first in the boot sequence, and restarted....
And then it said there was no boot drive. So I went into BIOS (originally I couldn't get into that... I had to put a Windows 7 boot disk into the dvd rom to even have that option) and there is no SSD and no HDD. Now when I restart it without the boot disk in the dvdrom it says, "Restart and select proper boot device". Too bad I can't. I wish I could. I unplugged the SSD and HDD and put them into a really old PC I have... It didn't recognize them. BUT... Then I took the HDD out of the really old PC and plugged it into the newer one... And it wasn't recognized there even though it's good on the other one.
Also, when I plugged in two external HDDs, they were both visible. I couldn't boot up with them, of course, but they were there in BIOS. My PC still powers on perfectly fine. I've taken the CMOS out to reset any misremembered settings there. I've set BIOS to default, played with settings, gone back to default, etc. I've configured my SATA to Raid, AHCI, and IDE. All serial ATA ports read as empty, even though they're not. I've plugged my SSD into different ports, used different cables, etc.
The only thing different about anything is that a few days prior to this, I took a plunge of curiosity and upgraded to Windows 10. I usually wait at least a year before upgrading OS's to give time for all bugs to work their way out, but for some reason I didn't this time. One lovely day my computer randomly wouldn't read my SSD. Then it stopped reading my HDD. It wouldn't read a good HDD from another computer but the other computer wouldn't read either the SSD or the HDD from the first computer. It would read external HDDs but not boot from them.
It'd make sense if my SSD and HDD just died for no reason and were bad (but why would one die and then the other a few minutes later?) but if that's the case, why won't my PC read the old HDD from another PC that I know works? Likewise, it'd make sense if my newer PC just wasn't reading any drives and they were actually both fine, but then why would it read external HDD's and why wouldn't the SSD and HDD show up on my old PC? (It's old AF... Maybe that's why?)
System Does Not Recognize (non US) Date Format
Aug 13, 2015I am having trouble with the date format for Australia (dd/mm/yy). It seems to coincide with the Windows 10 download. While my system clock shows the date correctly and the Date and Time setting are correct both in Region and Format, third party programs do not recognise the dd/mm/yy format. For example, the Photos app show the date in mm/dd/yy format and my spreadsheet, WPS Office will not recognise 13/8 mas 13/08/2015.

Feb 13, 2016I'm having trouble to get picture on my main and only monitor when booting up. The green led indicator on the monitor is just flashing.
Usually I have to push the restart button 10-15 times until picture finally appears. Sometime I am able to log on in the dark. Hit space and logon, then do a win+p until picture appears.
I've tried to uninstall the drivers, but that didn't solve it. I had to use a different monitor to get in for the first time after that. Driver is the most recent one.
