View 1 RepliesWell this a new one, yesterday I was downloading a movie, via Utorrent as I have done so many times before. As I do with all my films, I saved them in the directory downloads / Tv shows and films / films / movie title. As I expected, the torrent downloaded fine without any issues and I was about to get ready to watch the film when I noticed something odd. The folder containing TV shows had completely disappeared.
Additionally, I then checked the films folder, to notice all but 4 films (Including the one being downloaded) had also disappeared. I've spent the past hour researching, running malware scans (found nothing), losing the files doesn't bother me, at most, its an inconvenience. What's concerning me is how this could have happened, as mentioned above, I have ran multiple scans and found no evidence that the torrent could have been infected.
(I should point out, when I say disappeared, I mean complete gone from my system. I have checked the recycle bin, tried searching the names of movies and so on. I only have to look at my partitioned drive to see the additional 150GB of space that it now has.)
I upgraded a HP desktop from the factory-installed 8.1 to 10 about two months ago. I seldom use that computer, but from what I have discovered so far is that everything seems to work quite well with the exception of Edge. In fact, nothing about Edge seems to function properly. Here are my issues:
Regardless of what settings I choose on the Edge home page (top sites and suggested content, top sites, or a blank page), Edge always open to a blank page. I have researched that issue for days and nothing solves the problem. When I attempt to clear my browsing data, I always receive the message “all data could not be cleared - try again”.
Absolutely no files can be downloaded using Edge. Downloads start and then abort. IE11 works properly.Unfortunately I waited too long to revert back to 8.1, so now I am stuck with 10. Well, not exactly stuck because I do have an 8.1 image on an external drive I could restore. Still, I rather like 10 and would prefer to keep using it. So, am I facing a clean install of 10, or are there some other possibilities?
I've received 5 files from 5 sources, both Excel and Word. Every time I try to open one I get an error message "File is corrupt and can't be opened." I can work on my own files, but not downloads.
I tried the Windows 10 "workarounds" but these didn't work. I've tried to download using both Firefox and Edge, no difference.
My PC has downloaded all of the Windows 10 installation files in the $Windows.~BT folder, but I have not had any installation notices. How to initiate the installation?
I've read not to click the setup application in the $Windows.~BT folder as this will apparently make the files disappear.
From the start screen, type 'inetcpl.cpl' and then press Enter. In the Internet Properties window, click the Security tab, click the Internet Zone (globe icon), and then click the Custom level button. In the Security settings window, scroll down to Downloads>File download. Click to select Enable. Scroll down the list further to Miscellaneous>Launching applications and unsafe files. Click to select Prompt (recommend). Click OK. These steps will remove that default security block for downloads.
View -1 RepliesI was invited to download/install Windows 10 and I followed all the steps to download the files. Then I clicked to install it and it seemed to be doing it. Windows closed down and the computer restarted, but when it opened again it was still Windows 7 and there was a box up relating to Windows upgrades that that said the 'latest upgrade' had failed, and there was a button to click to download Windows 10 if I wanted to (again?!).
I don't know where all the files are that were downloaded and what I should do. I saw a suggestion somewhere that firewall/antivirus software can be a problem. I have Bitdefender, that doesn't allow you to disable it.. I suppose I could remove it completely before trying again? But otherwise what should I do? I don't want to download a lot of duplicate files again.
Downloaded files disappear in w10 home. They are not anywhere, not even in file history. Recuva revovery software does not show anything.

I have just started using windows 10 on a new PC. I have tried to download an anti virus program. It downloads and installs (well it appears to) but the program is not there when finished. Not in the programs lists or on 'remove programs' either. I cant find any way of searching the PC like I did in XP or Vista 'search for all files and folders'. Is this option still there hidden away to make things more difficult?
View 9 RepliesAfter downloading the Windows 10 file (which took over 5 hours) the file would not install. I will try to do a download again and see what kind of error message we are getting.
View 2 RepliesI have and iPhone and I have lots of albums downloaded to my Windows 10 running PC. As far as I can tell, the only way to transfer music from my PC to my iPhone is through iTunes. Now I am not going to be upset if there this is the only way and I'll just have to only listen to this music on my computer, but I wanted to ask if downloading iTunes on Windows 10 is a good idea, and if it will mess with my music (mainly MP3s) and my music player (Foobar2000).
View 4 RepliesI uninstalled the update that added the Windows 10 app to windows 7 because it never showed up in the first place. Now Windows update can't find the file again to download. IS there any way I can get the download file back or am I stuck until they release another update?
View 1 RepliesI was recently e-mailed a PDF file from a friend and when I went to download it, it showed up like this. [URL] ....
When I tried to open it, it asked me what program I would like to use. I was able to open it up with adobe reader and I was able to view it in the e-mail that it was received in. However, when I tried attaching the file to an e-mail for a different recipient, I could no longer view it in the e-mail and it still downloaded the same way in the imgur link.
The only way I was able to fix this was I saved the pdf from the original e-mail to my google drive, then I downloaded it to my computer from my google drive, and it actually showed up as a pdf file.
My question is, why was I able to view it through the gmail pdf reader when I first received it, but when I downloaded it, it showed up with no extension?
Just downloaded Windows 10 and noticed both my "windows" folder and "old windows" folder are located in my HDD.
How can I transfer windows 10 to my SSD?
My computer is a lenovo Y500 for future reference, it has both a 1 TB HDD and a 25 GB SSD built in.
I chose to upgrade my PC through the mediaCreationTool and waited for the download to finish.A few minutes later it was checking for updates. Then bam.
My PC suddenly restarted. What I want to know basically is where the mediaCreationTool saves the iso as it has already finished downloading, and if I can use that iso without mediaCreationTool's?
I downloaded a program (Skype) and I can't find it. I would like to add it to my start menu but I am not sure how to find it to do that.

View 1 RepliesOnce you download the maps, how do you open them?
View 3 RepliesYesterday 100% Win 10 update files were downloaded around 1 PM. Automatic updates are scheduled at daily 3 PM. I got a notification in action center that "Windows Update will be installed automatically at scheduled time." Still after a day nothing has happened. Even today at 3 PM nothing happened. 'Windows 10' app says that "OK, notify me when ready." There's $Windows.~BT folder having size of 4.4 GB on C drive. I'm using Windows 7 SP1 32-bit.
