View 1 RepliesI have 71 names in my contacts list that I can't delete. When I upgraded to Windows 10, I started using Windows Live Mail. I imported some contacts from a .csv file. Others were imported from another file. I deleted that file after the import. When I open my contacts the names imported from the csv file shows "address book" under the names. The names that were imported from the other file, don't say anything.
Later I tried to deleted all contacts. When I try to delete the "other file" contacts, the DELETE button is grayed out. I can send mail using these contacts. But I want most of them off my list. I deleted all the accounts I had on WLM and uninstalled/reinstalled WLM. The contacts are still there. I am not using any social medias that could be tied to it. I have used Skype. But the names in my contacts are not from there.
I use Windows Live Mail, and every time I create a category in my contacts, add 25 names, I come back to find that it has been deleted. Is there a limit to the amount of contacts it holds? How to permanently save a category?
View 1 RepliesI refuse to believe that Microsoft would have omitted this basic function. How does one Import from Windows Live Mail into the Windows 10 Mail App?
View 6 RepliesI have backup copies of my windows mail files on a portable hdd (JRS, Text docs, XML and PAT files) These were created on my old Vista PC. I am now using a new PC with Windows 10 and would like to import them. I have no way of exporting them to create a CSV file. How do I go about this?
View 4 RepliesAs a longstanding WLM user recently switched to Thunderbird, I'm really trying to like the new Mail app as my permanent mail client. But I can't find contacts. Where are they?
Also, I want to export contacts to a database of some sort (CSV?) like I can do with Gmail so that I can organize and then import back to Mail App. If I can't find or export contacts then I'll need to stay with one of the vintage apps.
I have installed Windows 10 and got all my accounts working in Mail but cannot find my contacts, any button for contacts or any way to import them from Windows Live Mail in Windows 7.
View 1 RepliesWhen I want to send a mail to a known person It doesn't show me the email contact when I type name or even his email address. The search contact only works If I have sent someone a mail only from the Windows 10 mail app otherwise it doesn't show the contact which I might have save or synced when I have used it on web and also on windows 8.1 mail app. Why my contacts can't be displayed when I type on Windows 10 mail app.
View 6 RepliesHow to get the new win10 mail app to access my contacts or how to add an address book to the email client. I'm get mail through a pop3 optus server not gmail etc.
If I begin typing a name or email address in a new email the only addresses/ names that are there [autofill] are ones who I have received mail from, my contacts aren't there. [added csv file to contacts I exported from live mail before upgrading from win8.1] where are the contacts from received emails stored?, can I add my contacts there?
I notice that recieved email contacts aren't stored in my contacts app contacts folder. I would like to just use the win10 mail app than install something else.
I thought I'd install Windows 10 Threshold 2 (not to make the same mistake twice, on a laptop I hardly use this time) to see if the built-in Microsoft apps are now any better than they were in July. Disappointingly, with the exception of being able to turn off 'Conversation View', the Mail app is just as diabolically poor as it was back then. But on top of that, another thing I noticed this time is that when you type a name into the 'To:' field, it doesn't even look up that name / email address from your 'People' app contacts. The auto-complete feature only populates for people you've previously emailed.
So basically, if you haven't emailed someone, it won't show their name despite their details and email address being listed in the 'People' app.
Of course, another problem with not populating the auto-complete addresses from your address book is that if a contact changes their email address and you update their details in the 'People' app, the Mail app will still use the old email address in the autocomplete dropdown, causing you to keep emailing the wrong address.
Did Microsoft seriously release a Mail app that can't even look up names in your contacts list?
I keep getting the message when I try to open Windows live mail "Windows Live Mail could not be started. It may not be installed correctly. Make sure that your disk is not full or you are not out of memory (0x80041161). I know it is installed correctly as it has worked perfectly until now. Where do I go to make sure that my disk is not full, or out of memory.

Was running Win7, just downloaded Win10.
All good, but Live Mail won't open -- just hangs there until I go to task manager and close the task.
Uninstalled Windows Essentials and re-installed 2012 version from Windows Downloads site.
How do I set up Windows Live Mail on my new Windows 10 computer ?
View 3 RepliesI've got Windows 10 up and running and I'm trying to figure out the mail client. I was previously using Windows Live Mail on Win7. I don't see an option anywhere to import mail from another or previous client.
View 1 RepliesUse live essential mail as my email and have it set as default and set to be in notification area. Do not receive any notifications in my live tile or in notification area, unless I open it and minimize it to my task bar. Why doesn't my live tile work?

View 17 RepliesJust yesterday, my WLM decided NOT to open. Don't know what happened, but super annoying.
I upgraded to Windows 10 about 6 months ago, and it was working fine. I'm using a PC that is about 7 years old, but kept clean and updated regularly.
I'd like to set hotkey to live mail on my keyboard but to do this I need the shortcut to this app or it's location on disc.
View 2 RepliesWhen I click on WLM icon, the program not only logs me in without a password but also creates a Sign-In that will not accept the verizon email password? Sign-in attempts to log me into Microsoft site and change my WLM password as well. What is happening here?
View 2 RepliesMy live mail (outlook.com) tells me my 'settings are out of date'. Previously (before latest update) I went fix and it would be ok for a short time but now it comes up with message
Something went wrong. Sorry we are unable to do that. Error code 0x80070525.
Someone suggested I try adding another user - guess what... I got the exact same message.
Since Windows 10 downloaded, my Windows Live Mail will not let me open any of the links in my incoming emails? Is this some sort of security setting or default problem??
View 8 RepliesI've always used windows live mail as i never liked the one that comes with win 8 or 10. For some reason i can't get Windows Live Mail to close right in windows 10. When i click on the icon it opens fine and downloads my incoming mail but when i click close it doesn't close or takes 30 seconds+ to close.

View 6 RepliesI have a laptop that had Window 7 and I did the upgrade. Everything went fine. But Windows Live Mail will not load. I have tried reinstalling Live Mail, repairing, and deleting install folder and registry. I also deleted the cache in app data folder. Is there anything else I can try? Sometimes it just shows the loading screen and other times it shows part of the screen with the loading screen on top. I outputted my emails and contacts but not in the format for Outlook. I planned to import them to outlook. After reading again it should have been in the "Microsoft exchange" format.
View 5 RepliesI've upgraded my wife's laptop to W10. (She hated/despised W8, W8.1, until I installed the Start8 shell.) Whereas W10 is a great improvement, the bundled email software is not.
W10's mail program does not allow new folders to be created (you can add pre-existing ones, but you cannot make your own); it does not allow you to look at all unread emails (you've got to go into each account); the upgrade process wiped out all her contacts (I'm hoping they still exist somewhere on her hard-drive).
How do I reinstall Windows Live Mail?
I've been using Win 10 for some weeks. Until today, it would open three programs for me upon startup and waking, as had happened with Windows 7 before I upgraded to Windows 10.
Today my user account settings were changed and now one of the programs no longer opens unless I click on the icon. It's Windows Live Mail. I tried Pin to Taskbar, Pin to Start, and a combo of both but the email program does not load unless I click the icon.
