This started a few days ago and is reconfiguring most installed programs every startup. Is this necessary since it consumes resources and delays full usage. If not necessary, how to I put a stop to this? I have a newer Dell desktop running Windows 10.

View 9 RepliesIn the last couple of weeks, when I reboot the system there is a popup message "Windows Installer, Preparing to Install". The only option is to "Cancel". If I wait about 3 seconds it disappears, but on the next reboot it returns.

After trying to install Windows Installer again from an elevated command prompt from dllcache, installers still tell me that there is "Another installation in progress."
I was having some issues with my previous build (Insider), and hard disk crashing, I went and did a full wipe and a clean install.
Unfortunately, some of my programs refuse to add to startup even when the "Start with Windows" option is checked. I've tried completely removing the programs and re-installing and they simply will not start with Windows like they should.
Aside from manually overriding the situation, (which is a workaround, and not a fix), how to resolve this?
I recently upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. At first everything was working fairly smoothly; however, just recently, my startup programs are not starting up when I turn on my computer. Certain programs that are Enabled in my Startup menu are OneDrive, Google Drive, Growl, etc.
I have a Lenovo Ideapad U410.
Whenever I try to install a 64 bit Windows 10 copy from a flash drive, I get stuck on the 4 blue squares, with no white dots spinning. Then after about 10 seconds the PC restarts. I have tried the official way with the media creation tool, I have tried just downloading the ISO and using a third party bootable USB maker, I have tried ISO's from pirate sites (yes, I know, not the best solution) but none of those worked. Every time I tried a different method I always fully formatted the USB drive. Oddly enough the 32 bit version worked once or twice but even that doesn't work anymore. My PC specs are quite good so I really don't know what's the issue. Btw im running a 120 GB AData SSD and a 1 TB Seagate hard drive.

I tried all the suggestions I could find but so far nothing seems to be wrong with the installer. I there anything I can try to fix this error ?
Windows keeps telling me to disable three programs that start when the computer does, but the 'disable' button in the startup menu on task master is grayed out and will not function. I have followed all the directions, which basically haven't changed for this version of windows and repeated the effort several times, but am unable to modify these programs.
View 2 RepliesI am experiencing an issue with my computer that has been occurring since I upgraded to Windows 10. At startup, I can launch any program fine. However, after about 30 minutes or so of inactivity (I've never actually timed it), I loose the ability to launch programs. I double click on an application, Chrome, Edge, Steam, File Folders, anything, and it just doesn't seem to register. I can bring up the Start Menu screen, but launching from there as opposed to the task bar or desk top gets me the same result. I get the circle icon for a second as if it is thinking, but it never launches. I cannot even launch Task Manager without hitting Ctrl+Alt+Del and launching it that way. When I do, the programs I attempt to open do not appear in the list. My only recourse is to reboot the computer and then it works fine again.

I am having some problems when trying to install Windows live ID sign in assistant. When I download the Games for windows live it says that the sign in assistant gets downloaded and installed but when I open Games for windows it gives me an error and says that I have to install the sign in assistant.
I then downloaded it from the Microsoft site but the installer starts and then just quits as soon as it opens.
Since 2 or 3 weeks when I switch on my notebook, after loading my desktop it hangs loading startup programs.When it hangs, I can't even shut down, I have to press the power button 4 seconds to shut down.It happened with my 3 notebooks, but it remains only in one of them.This problem remains in an HP EliteBook 8540w running Windows 10 Pro 64 bits. In this notebook I had uncheck the "Turn on fast startup (recommended)" when I installed Windows 10, because it didn't shut down properly.I don't know what to do, I tried SFC and DISM tool, both found errors but were unable to correct them.
View 5 RepliesI have a new Netgear USB wireless router I want to install. When I attempt to run the Netgear Windows10-version installation software for the Driver, the installation crashes with the "Windows Install Error 1603" notification. I cannot figure out what this means, except something to do with the Installer being unable to load the driver. The router IS rrecognized in Device Manager, but with a yellow warning that "Windows could not load the driver".
EVERYTHING else on my desktop is working just great, not a problem anywhere.
Netgear Live Chat support is stumped; they told me to get another unit. Well, I have done that already! The strange thing is that BOTH these routers are INSTANTLY recognized by my laptop running Windows 10 just like my Desktop is. The problem AIN'T the router! Something in Win 10 on my Desktop isn't right, and I need to find out what to do to fix it.
I'm trying to run programs upon boot in W10 but it doesn't work.I have put them in Start folder and if I go to Task manager I can see the programs are there as well in Startup tab and enabled...but they will not start. I have to manually launch them anyway.I found out a thread where someone was able to get a fix in the same situation by going to taskbar and menu properties and selecting 'use the Start menu instead of start screen' but my menu has no such tab.
How to try to get them programs to launch upon boot. The machine was just freshly clean installed with W10 and it has but a couple of programs on it - exactly the programs I'd like to auto-start. Done all windows updates as well. Another machine of mine developed a weird glitch in that the start menu doesn't suddenly work at all.It just raises a red box in the middle of screen saying something like 'oops your start menu doesn't seem to work but don't worry, we'll fix it up for the next boot' and then it promptly reboots, but whatever I try it doesn't get fixed.
I have updated the machine several times without issues and it works fine, just can't use the start at all or it reboots...been using it for a month now as it is now, got the big updates and all...but it doesn't get fixed. Start menu would sometimes be rather convenient in a machine, no?
The latter machine I might just re-install clean anew. I have 7 windows boxes all now W10 and it appears every one needs to be freshly clean installed to W10 before they really start working well.
after upgrading from Win7 Ultimate with Office 2007 to Won10 pro, every time I star Excel or Word or PowerPoint the Windows Installer screen appears and then asks for Microsoft Visual Studio Team System 2008 Development Edition.ENU disk.
How can this be solved?
When ever I walk away from the computer for a little while, when I return all more programs have closed. I'm not sure what minimum amount of time passes before this happens but after an hour it's always displays this behavior.
View 6 RepliesI have recently upgraded from 8.1 to windows 10 after it finish installing I reset my computer(Via the recovery tab). I then started installing my programs and everything was going well, but when I logged in the next day I couldn't open Task Manager or the admin command prompt(the normal one works fine), my windows update also takes forever to search for an update and nothing ever happens. It seems to be something wrong with the programs that require admin(I am the only user on the computer so I have administrator functions). I have some error messages but there are a few more. Here are a few: 'This program did not respond in a timely fashion', 'The service cannot accept control messages at this time' and I will attach a screenshot of the longest one.

The install app offered to uninstall the old version but for some reason did not install the new version. When I tried to install once more I got the same message. I have attached a snip-it picture of the message.
View 3 RepliesI currently have Windows 7 installed on a 128 GB SSD (C drive), which also houses my more "essential" programs and the Users folder.
I also have a 1 TB HD (E drive) which I installed the rest of my programs on (though, the registry still remains on C) and also contains most of my personal data. I moved the My Documents, My Music, etc. from C to E.
If I decide to upgrade to Windows 10, will the installer detect that I also have programs on my E drive? Or does it only look at the primary drive, my C drive?
On the Start window after booting or restart I get a small Run window and associated statement: cannot find C:Program Filesuser extensionsclient.exe; how do I make that go away?
View 10 RepliesMy laptop did an automatic Windows 10 update Friday and restarted but no program will open now and I have to hold the on key to restart it. I get about 15-30 second after it comes up to click on something and it might open but will stop responding shortly after. I have got task manger to open once and only AVG was running but it frozen before I could click on anything.
I started in safe mode and removed the last window updates only to had them reinstall when it restarted.
What at can I do? Is this a virus or malware or did the latest update do this?
Everytime my friend starts up her laptop, it tells her that the desktop is unavailable. The windows button is also unavailable and the only way to start programs, is by going to Task manger -> File -> Run new task - > Browse - And then find the right location.
I tried to use a SFC /scannow, but I'm not experienced enough to analyze the results.

I downloaded windows 10 from Microsoft windows website and I installed it but I thought of reverting back to windows 7 and so I did. The windows 7 boot up logo showed up but got stuck in between the boot logo. then the windows startup fixing program would be recommended for me and I did it but failed to fix the boot up error. and i cant even start windows from the safe mode as well. So what do i do to bring back windows 7 back up. and which one windows is good 7 or 8 or 8.1 and sure that i wouldn't wanna go back to 10. so how do i start up windows again?? Yeah i guess i will have to make a bootable USB or DVD drive. I would like to go for usb but not sure how to create one bootable usb drive.
View 10 RepliesI had installed Windows 10 for over a week now. The issue of windows not sleeping after sleeping once after startup from a shutdown has been going on for a couple of days.
I've been through many of the power options that deal with what devices wake up the computer, and I have turned them all off at one point which did not work, Windows 10 still refused to sleep properly after sleeping once.
I've went to power options and made sure that the sleep button makes the computer sleep, but it still refuses to sleep after it slept once. I'm really unsure where to solve this, and I don't think this issue has been addressed with Windows 10 yet. Perhaps this is a bug?
I was tinkering with the security settings of Local Disk (C: ) so that I get full access to it so as to delete unwanted files. I tried but accidentally now the local disk doesn't have an owner. So I can't access Administrator (cmd). When I try and access those settings to define an owner, it shows 'Access is denied.'. I tried working in safe mode but safe mode won't open. I tried resetting windows 10 both ways (keeping and deleting all files) but it says 'resetting failed.'. I cannot access Local disk (C: ) and cannot opens programs related to it like notepad, task manager, etc.
