Windows Becomes Sluggish With Memory Intensive Applications

View 1 RepliesIn Windows 7/8/8.1 I would press the Start/Windows button and start typing the name of a program (ie: Firefox, Word, etc) and it would pop up, learn, and as I did the same thing in the future.....I would just press Windows key, type wor, and Word would pop up and I press enter. Don't need to take my hands off the keyboard.
Windows 10 does not do that. I type Word and get Wordpad. I type Firefox and get 'Download Firefox - Free web browser', Secure (for SecureCRT) give me 'SecureCRT (file folder)', even though these apps are installed. Is there a way to put the apps in the search?
I updated from Windows 8 to Windows 10 a week ago. Since then I have had trouble typing. Sometimes it works fine but every few strokes I press on a key and get no response and have to press 3 or 4 times to get a response on screen. The problem is not related to any particular key.
View 4 RepliesI just upgraded my Windows 7 installation to Windows 10 using the Windows free upgrade. The upgrade completed successfully and I am able to boot into Windows 10.
I am not able to open any applications pinned to the taskbar. Even the windows menu is not launching! Hence I am stuck with only limited set of applications which have shortcuts on the desktop.
I upgraded from windows 8 to 10 now my window applications will not start. It only has a blank screen. I can only use the task master but can not uninstall especially the security features. I am very unhappy with this product and I do not want it.
View 2 RepliesWhen I lock windows (win + L) and relog back on any application I had running when I locked the account will be muted (browsers aren't affected). The application doesn't appear in windows volume mixer and the only way ive found to get my sound back is to restart the application.
For example, I`m playing fallout 4 I need to leave my computer so I lock it (for a variety of reasons) then I return a minute later and my sound is gone. The only way to get it back is to restart the game. This is pretty annoying for me because I have to somewhat frequently lock my windows while I`m doing things.
Recently my PC has been restarting after around an hour, when playing any graphically intensive games.-It has never crashed when just using the internet, idle etc. Only when playing games has it happened.-I have tested the RAM, CPU, GPU using benchmarking and HDD is an SSD.-I have tried a clean install of Windows 10.-My OS and drivers are up to date.-I also monitored my temps when in game and they are running normal when the crash happens. The system will hang for a few seconds and my headphones give off a loud buzzing. The PC will then restart after a few seconds but none of the fan or component lights go off like it is losing power.
View 1 RepliesI just built a new PC and for some reason when I'm playing graphically intensive games (like subnautica, Gta5, Dying Light, etc) after maybe 15 minutes to an hour both of my monitors shut off, sometimes i can hear the game running still in the background and sometimes I can't, it is clear that the computer is still up because I can hear the windows sound effects. The game doesn't run poorly before it the monitors turn off or anything, It doesn't even seem hot at all when it shuts down. I've tried to turn the idle time for the monitors to never turn off, updating everything, and basically everything I can think of that may cause this to happen. But I have no clue how to fix it.
I have:
NVIDIA Gtx970
i74770k
1600 Mb of RAM
Windows 10 Pro full version
Hydro H60 Liquid Cooling
The universal application does not show up in windows preview 10576..Is there anyway to get that?
View 5 RepliesI noticed when I booted up and even restarted my laptop is being very sluggish even with no programs open. I have an Intel i7-4710MQ 2.5ghz quad core, nvidia 970m, and 8gb of ram and had the cpu usage at 100% for a few seconds. Seems like my laptop knew I got a Macbook Pro .
View 2 RepliesYesterday (12/7/15) I got on steam to play some games with a friend and about 5 seconds into starting CS:GO my computer screen turns black, and it restarts, with no error/crash message.
Earlier today I got fed up with this so I decided to wipe my computer and do a clean install of Win.10 but the problem still persists. I mean the computer runs really quickly now, but the second I play any game, or compress anything it crashes, and restarts.
How can I stop/fix this issue?
I am using a HP laptop (Probook 4530s) and I want a completely fresh install removing all there little annoying partitions and applications. I would just refresh but I am wondering if that would work, as the bios is liked to HP softwareWhat would happen with the bios?
View 1 RepliesI upgraded to windows 10 last night and while playing with everything today, I noticed my mouse is pretty "Off". I don't think I notice it while in windows, but when I load up a game like Counter-Strike, my mouse is CLEARLY not normal. It's very sluggish and very imprecise. how I can fix this?
I'm using a Logitech G600. I didn't use logitech's software before and had hope I won't have to now.
Recently I have noticed that my computer is EXTREMELY SLUGGISH after I wake it up out of sleep mode. It runs very very slowly. Rebooting is the only thing that fixes the sluggishness but then it happens again once my computer is put to sleep and then wakes up.
My computer is an Alienware Area 51 R2. I upgraded to windows 10 about a month ago without any problems. I have the Hibernate feature turned off as the files required to preserve my computer state during hibernation take up far too much space on my tiny 120 GB SSD that windows is installed on (all my games and other stuff are installed to the 1.5 TB standard platter-based hard drive) Sleep function remains enabled though.
I have a pair of NVIDIA Geforce GTX 980 graphics cards and am using the latest graphics drivers with them (358.50 according to the latest update i got).
Defragmenting (and in the case of SSD, trimming it) have not worked.
I'm running a 64 bit Windows 10 laptop. On idle, the System process is showing a high memory usage of more than 150 MB, usually more than 200 MB. Using poolmon the pooltag SpDN showed up with a memory leak. It leads to the Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver, iaStorV.sys. How should I go about fixing the problem?
View 1 RepliesI have an HP DV4 Laptop(i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD) that came with Windows 7, I recently updated to Win10. Everything seems fine except of the high CPU usage in System and Compressed memory. I narrowed it down to the Realtek Memory Card reader. I should also mention that right after the Win10 update two Realtek Memory Card Reader entries were in Device Manager with yellow exclamation icons.
I deleted them and had Windows install the drivers from Windows updates, after that everything LOOKS fine. And there's only one entry now. After a while I noticed the fan making a lot of noise, wasn't like that in Win7.Anyway, after hours of troubleshooting I eventually came back to the Realtek reader, sure enough after disabling it CPU went to normal.I have also downloaded the newest driver from realtek site.
I've never had this message appear on Windows 8 and I did go and disable anything I felt I wasn't using sufficiently. But my Windows 10 is freezing intermittently and I'm getting a message about low memory.
What gives? I have 4GB RAM and that's all my PC will hold, unfortunately. Is Windows 10 gobbling up memory?
I tried google searching just the direct phrase of "system and compressed memory", but came up with nothing. I have never seen it before until recently, and it is using half a gig average. When I open file location, it does bring me to the windows folder, but it does not mean it was something that was put there by windows.
View 5 RepliesMy problem is that I set Media Player Classic for MP4, MPG, AVI, MKV and other formats and Windows Photo Viewer for JPG, PNG etc. The next day for some unknown reason I see these associated with Windows Video and Photo app instead! I right-slick on a MP4 files, select Open with->Choose Default app and set Windows Media Player Classic again for the millionth time. The next day I see the MP4 files associated with build-in Windows Video app!
I usually leave my computer running with the monitor switched off when in work (so I can access it via TeamViewer), rarely restart, if that matters. For other details see my specs.
I got this issue yesterday that some applications in my win 10 pc v10240 wont run until I run them as administrator. I thought I did something wrong because I was messing up with registry entries so I tried googling it but didn't find anything. Then today I decided to reinstall windows and after the clean install now the issue is happening again. I dont know what to do because the apps were working fine a few days ago but as from yesterday they wont even after the clean installation of windows. I have checked for viruses and such but nothing on my end.
View 3 RepliesCannot set default application. Even video files does not open in double click. I use open with option and select 'Choose another app" and it does not response.
View 1 RepliesSo I was coming from Windows 7, got my upgrade by using the usb method. Downloaded the tool from microsoft and installed W10 over W7. Everything was great, until I noticed every time I loaded Steam, it would show the process how ever many times in my processes, but never actually open. No matter how many times I would reinstall the Steam App or clean my reg and system, reboot, nothing. A friend suggested I do a clean wipe and install so I did.
Formatted my primary SSD drive and left my other 2 hard drives alone. Rebooted W10 and same problem after loading Steam. I tried all the above again, multiple installs of Steam, cleaning the system, reboots, whatever I could think of and can not get it to run. The Steam app will install then start to update and never update and stays running in my processes.
I was wondering if the problem is I am running 3 hard drives, my primary SSD with W10 only, and a bunch of steam apps and files games etc all still on my other 2 Hard Drives. Do I need to wipe my other 2 drives completely, fresh wipe my SSD and install w10 again? Not sure what the problem is. All my other friends with W10 have their steam working. I need to have this app run, as it is the portal into all my games I have purchased to play online. I have reverted to W7 until I can figure out what to do.
Oh and when I go back to W7, the Steam app loads right away and works. So this is a W10 issue.

I'm planning on moving from Win 7 to Win 10 via a new install (although it seems I should upgrade first - I'll read about that). My questions have to do with my Win 7 applications...
#1) Is there a list someplace of applications that need to be "de-registered" so they can be registered on the new Win 10 clean install? For example, I'm pretty sure the Adobe suite has to be deregistered - maybe MS Office too?
#2) Is there a way to move an application? By that I mean I either don't have the original install files anymore or in some cases I've found some useful software from [URL] .... where you download the install file but it has to be installed and registered that day. If you wait a day, you can't register it. Any way to "move" these programs? I realize generally you can't just move applications and then the added complication of going from Win 7 to Win 10.
Is there a way to mark them start menu items as used? I'm just a bit peeved at seeing "New!" tags on all of my apps after doing a system reset...
View 1 RepliesI have Windows 10. Recently I noticed that If I have several applications open and want to switch to another one, it opens BEHIND the existing window. How do I bring whatever application I click to the forefront? I have sought long and hard for the answer, but to no avail.
View 8 RepliesVarious applications are crashing at seemingly random times. The most common culprits are video games (in my case, GTAV and JustCause2), but various windows executables also crash.
The most common exception code which caused the crash is 0xc0000005. Other codes pop up from time to time as well, such as 0xc000000d, 0xc0000409, 0xc0000374, or 0x80000003.
The time between crashes varies wildly. Sometimes a game will crash 3 times on start up. Other times it will work for 4 hours straight. Sometimes the computer is working solidly, other times critical applications hang, forcing a restart with no log of the event. Some games never experience a crash, while others love to do so. For example, XCOM hasn't crashed once in the 30 hours I've played it, while JustCause2 crashed about ~10 times in 5 hours of gameplay.
I've attached all the application error events that have occurred since I switched over to Windows 10. (I switched over on Aug 9 in an unsuccessful attempt to fix this issue, so all the logs before then are currently hidden away in a backup. But don't worry, all the logs before then are more of the same.)
