Windows Loads On SATAe But Not On Regular SATA Port
Sep 17, 2015
I just wanted to ask if it was bad that i had my HDD connected to a eSATA (Asmedia) port when installing my OS? I just tried switching the port from the eSATA ports to the regular SATA ports but it gives me BSOD saying "Inaccesible_Boot_Device". So i just plugged them back in eSATA ports.

I have some home automation software (HomeSeer) running on a W10 machine on my network that has a web interface running on port 8080. I want to access this from other machines on the network. I couldn't access it by default so I created an inbound rule on Windows Firewall for TCP port 8080. But it still won't connect from other machines on the network. I know the problem is on the host W10 machine because when I temporarily turn off the firewall on that machine I can access the web interface from the other machines. For the rule I tried private only, and private+public+domain, and same result.

I have had no problems what so ever with this computer running Win 7 Pro for a very long time (2+ years) and when I moved to Win 10 Pro I get these BSOD Critical_Process_Died crashes while browsing the internet using Fire Fox. After the BSOD it will reboot and I can use again but then after a while (maybe an hour) it crashes again. I have recently updated to Win 10 and all drivers were at that time updated. I have to admit I wish there was a better way to determine when a new driver is available for your hardware.

I just setup windows 10 mobile preview on my Nokia Icon last night. Last night the Start screen wasn't loading after about 5 minutes, and figured it was just updating, so I went to bed and left phone on. (screen says "Loading . . .", disappears, then "Loading . . .", etc)
This morning I load up phone, and it is doing the same thing. I cannot get the start screen to load.
However, it appears everything else is fairly functional: I'm able to open Cortana, I can launch internet browser, I can surf the web, I can send a text from Cortana, etc. But as soon as I go to start screen, it never loads.
Initially, the screen would loop on "Loading . . .". If I held down the back button, the tasks would show a blank Start task. But after I get cortana or another app to open, when I try to go 'home', it shows "Loading . . ." once, then immediately goes back to the app -- and if I check the tasks, it never shows 'Start'.

I have encountered regular blue screen of death when I'm playing. Sometimes the BSOD appeared just after the reboot of my pc too. I have tried to repair the game, de-install and re-install it, update all my drivers, update the motherboard's drivers, but nothing worked. I really don't know what to do anymore. I attach the required zip file of the posting instructions with the dump files inside.

(The number of primitive bugs in version 1511 is just imagination-defying.)
Open Control Panel. Open User Accounts applet. On the left there's a link that says Change my environment variables.
Clicking on that link... does nothing (!!!). The link is simply dead.
What on Earth is going on??? How are we supposed to change environment variables in non-Administrator accounts now? This Change my environment variables link in User Accounts was provided specifically for that purpose. There's no other natural way to do it.
I know that there are workarounds for this (all ugly), but... WTH? Did they do even basic testing on this 1511 release???
P.S. Just confirmed that pre-1511 Windows 10 works normally in that regard. This damage was done specifically by 1511 update.

Recently up(down)graded to W10 and ever since I've had no end of instability issues resulting in BSOD's.
So far I've updated all my drivers which stopped the BSOD's for a few days but now they're reoccurring.
I can't identify a specific causation for them, of late they can occur just after startup, or within minutes/hours.

My PC regularly crashes. Usually with no notice it just freezes and never recovers, but occasionally it results in a Dpc_Watchdog_violation BSOD which in some cases it even manages to successfully reboot from.
The only pattern I can note is that the more stress the system is under, the more likely it is to crash. The fan speed usually correlates with the likelihood of a crash, but there have also been numerous occasions where it crashes with no warning or pattern.
It used to happen a lot back when I had Windows 7 on this machine, but after a fresh install of 8.1 it became a very rare thing to happen. However, since I upgraded to Windows 10 a few weeks ago, it happens multiple times a day.
Other than an SSD for the O/S and replacement HDDs, the machine is as it was when bought, an Acer Aspire M3300.
Because of that brief period where it worked fine with Windows 8.1, I suspect it's driver related, but I'm not going to pretend I'm an expert. The graphics drivers for the graphics card aren't supported on Windows 10 (ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4350), but other searches suggest it works fine regardless.

I have recently upgrading to windows 10 on a fairly new machine, after doing so I have had regular BSOD (IRQL unexpected error), there doesn't seem to be much connection between them other than watching videos whilst online. When I got the first one I read a bug fix online which said to fix it either revert back to my previous OS (windows 8) or reinstall windows 10. I did the later thinking I could always revert back if that didn't work but alas it has now gotten rid of that option and the problem still persisted. I downloaded bluescreen view to work out that it was a problem with nwifi.sys driver, and so updated my wifi driver accordingly but the problem still persists.
I hopefully have attached the associated info dump.

For some reason this morning my computer was being really slow, freezing for a couple of minutes at a time especially when searching for programs, so I decided to restart it.
After that my computer took way longer than usual to boot up and when it did it opened to a black screen. I left it for 10 minutes and nothing had changed so I pressed Ctrl Alt Delete and then a message popped up saying something along the lines of log in and shutdown failure. I would post a picture of it but it won't from my phone and I currently don't have a functioning computer.
Now I've been waiting around a half hour after typing in my password for my computer to log in and it's been just a spinning wheel on a screen with my name on it.

After signing on and Windows 10 homepage loads, shortly after that the page flashes and is gone. It reloads and 30 seconds later it will flash again, on and off continually. Loaded Windows 10 24 hours earlier, the system was okay until early in the evening after a reboot. Now all reboots are the same. Lucky enough at one point I was able to get on the internet, but I can't get to my settings to find a fix.

I've been having this issue for a long time (not sure how long), some internet pages that require the browser to load resources/images/whatever are laggy as all hell. Sometimes they load fine, but other times it takes forever to load thumbnails of videos on Youtube or images on Google Images.I clean my cache and registry, using CCleaner, fairly often so it's not a clutter issue. I scan my computer fairly often too, using Malwarebytes and Windows Defender, and never found a threat so it's not a virus/malware issue. I have no internet toolbars, speed enhancing apps or any other programs of the kind. I also have my drivers up to date.

I'm evaluating Windows 10 for my company to check compatibility with our systems and general user experience. We're a small business, and we're presently running a mix of Win7 and Win8.1 machines, all running Pro and joined to our domain. The two machines I've upgraded to Win10 Pro both have the same issue:
File Explorer, when opened, has a loading bar that never finishes. It displays the text "Working on it..." in the file panel, and a very small tree in the folder panel, with just "Quick access," "Desktop," and "This PC" entries. Many controls in the ribbon are also greyed out, including Options, Open command prompt, and the layout controls. (See screenshot)
Possibly related, the recycle bin does not behave as expected. Even with files in the bin, the "Empty recycle bin" option is greyed out both in the ribbon and in context menu from the desktop icon. I can only fully delete files by selecting them within the bin and deleting them again. (See screenshot)
I've searched around for people with similar problems, but I found only one thread describing this issue, and with a preview build. That thread contained a work-around (start->run->c:) which usually works for me, but which brings up a very quirky File Explorer window, with a folder pane that only shows folders I have actually navigated to using the file pane. It is workable, but I can't ask a normal user to live with this experience, so our upgrade plans are on hold until I can get this resolved.
None of my personal machines, including a Surface Pro 3 now running Win10 Pro, are having this issue.

Upgraded from Windows 7. Several pages load or don't load:
1. Control Panel loads but the screen is completely blank.
2. Customizing the font page won't even load. Get message the change font page won't load.
Why I get blank screens. Can't find anything on these problems. Have to work around them at present. Have found a workaround for the Control Panel but not the changing font utility.

When I download my free version of Windows 10, I want to install it to my 128gb SATA drive which is now labeled Drive S, and keep my current installation of Win 7 Ultimate on drive C in case I want to revert back to Win 7.
How do I install Win 10 on my SATA drive, change it to become the bootable drive, and retain Win 7 on drive C? Also, if I decide to revert back to Win 7, what process do I go through to revert back to the old Drive C?

I have a PC with Asus Z97-Pro mb. OS (W10) is on SSD. Two SATA HDD's (each 1 TB) contain dissimilar data. Can I add a third SATA drive (1TB) and create a RAID-1 configuration with only one of the two existing drives? The mb manual says that when SATA ports are set to RAID mode, all SATA ports run at RAID mode together. Does this mean that I cannot do what I am asking?

I recently had my PlayStation 3 system corrupt, and I had two options, to delete all of my data and start new, or go trough a long process to restore my data.
To restore my data, I need to change my computer to the SATA Controller mode IDE, but I can not find it in the system BIOS. The closet thing I can find is switching between AHCI and ATA, but I need IDE mode.
Where can I find the setting to change it?

I just spent a long time trying to find the best answer for this and wanted to save people some time... this is specifically for Windows 10.(So, the answer is basically here: URL...Add a new "Multi String Value" called "TreatAsInternalPort" to HKEY_LOCAL_ MACHINE SYSTEM Current Control SetService sstorahciParametersDevice with the values "0|1|2|3|4|5|" (the | symbolizes a new line)(I had to reboot two (2) times before the changes took.)
I had to do this fix because BitLocker has different options specifically for fixed, local, internal drives as opposed to a USB drive or eSATA drive which is removable. Also, this gets rid of the "Eject" option in Windows 10 for mislabeled internal HDDs.This is what it looks like when storing the values into "TreatAsInternalPort":

I am building a new PC with no internal storage. I am installing a 2.5" SATA dock in one 3.5" bay and one 3.5" SATA dock in a second 5.25" bay.
My intention is to have one SSD for my work PC on Windows 10, one SSD for my son for his gaming on Windows 7 (some of his games are not Win 10 compatible yet), and perhaps a third SSD for playing around with Linux installs, etc.
The 3.5" dock will have a 1TB HDD for backup.
From what I have read, since these drives will not technically be external. (plugged into the SATA on the mainboard through the dock, and not via USB or e-sata.), that their creation and use could be problematic if I use the UEFI boot system, or secure boot for that matter.
So.... I am looking for a methodology which I should use to setup these boot SSDs which will give me the least problems and management issues.
A side related question. I have a boot SSD with Win 7 home premium that is eligible for Win 10 upgrade. It currently resides in my Dell Alienware x-51 R1 system, but I want to move it to the new system as the drive my son will be using.
Will there be any issues in moving the drive to a new system architecture?If/when he can upgrade to Win 10, will there be any issues with that since the architecture has changed from the system of origin?Do I need to backup/reformat/restore the drive in order to get it to boot properly in the above mentioned docking bay system?Since only one drive could be used at any one time. In your opinion, do you think I need multiple Windows Licenses?

I am using a new W10 laptop, with newly-installed software for controlling a telescope. This requires a USB-Serial adapter, which I have used successfully with W7 on an earlier machine. Now I cannot configure the COM ports. I get the message "Device (or COM Port) does not exist". I have tried setting the COM port in Device Manager to all numbers from 1 to 15, but with the same results.
