Windows Recovery - Missing / Corrupt Critical Driver Error 0xc000000d
Nov 12, 2015
I upgraded my Toshiba laptop automatically from 8.1 to 10 when the software came out (months ago) - have had no issues with it. Then I was using my laptop it flashed blue and turned off. It now comes up with with recovery - your pc/device needs to be repaired (see image) - I'm able to access the recovery settings - have tried refresh, system restore, automatic repair, nothing works and seems to get worse. I have a lot of personal files/photos that haven't been backed up for about a month and want to save them! I've downloaded the Windows 10 iso to a usb - but have only get semi regular access to a Mac so unsure if it's bootable.

So far, things have been ok with my Windows 10 update. Today I tried to look for updates, as I think this is the regular Patch Tuesday. However, it takes a long time, then gives me the error in the title. Using the update fixer doesn't work, I just get the "Service Registry is Missing or Corrupt". What would be causing that?
I'm also getting a problem with task host not wanting to allow shutdown, what's the deal there?

I ran "SFC /scannow" and got an error saying the System File Checker found errors but couldn't fix them. Afterwards I ran "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" and DISM threw the error 0x800f081f saying that the source files could not be found.
I then ran "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:H:Sourcesinstall.wim" to direct DISM to my windows 10 disk, but this also didn't work.
I don't know what to do short of reinstalling Windows, I've attached my CBS and DISM logs in a .zip file below (the CBS log was too big).

I've just bought my first SSD and want to install windows 10 onto it. I used the media creation tool to install the OS onto a bootable USB but when I try to install the software onto my SSD I get an error. It reads:
"A media driver your computer needs is missing. This could be a DVD, USB or Hard disk driver. If you have a CD, DVD or USB flash drive with the driver on it, please insert it now."
I have tried hooking up my optical drive and inserting the disks that came with the motherboard and graphics card but it says it can't find any drivers. I'll attach an image below of the problem I'm facing.

Before I updated to Windows 10, I must have damaged some files whilst trying to turn off Windows 10 notifications in Windows 7. I couldn't do any updates in Windows 7 either.
There is no error code. Windows update troubleshooter says: "Service registration is missing or corrupt."
I ran sfc/ scannow, it said it found corrupt files but was unable to fix it. The CBS log is attached. CBS.rar

My Win 10 Update function is not working at all. There are over 100 updates saying "Waiting for Download." The progress bar stays at 0%, even when there is nothing else running at all.
I ran WindowsUpdateDiagnostic, and it said "service registration is missing or corrupt." It won't say which service it's talking about.
I ran SPF /scannow and it said no integrity violations.
I ran DISM /scanhealth, /checkhealth, and /restorehealth, and they said "no component store corruption detected" and "restore operation completed successfully."
I did all the steps in "Reset Windows Update Components" and they all completed successfully, but nothing changed except that the list of updates disappeared (they all reappeared as soon as I clicked on 'Updates are available).
A search on "service registration is missing or corrupt" shows that this is a common problem. The only advice that I haven't tried is to re-install Windows 10. I don't want to have to re-install MS Office, Kaspersky, etc.

I have been getting these nvidia driver crashes, where the monitor turns off by itself and then recovers and I can continue using it normally, but lately the drivers just crash and a few moments after, the PC reboots on its own but fails to turn on the monitor, which forces me to do a manual reboot. After the manual reboot, I go to Event Viewer and find these errors: Critical, Event ID 41, Source Kernel-Power. Error, Event ID 3, Source Kernel-EventTracing.

I keep getting blue screens randomly with different messages, including KERNEL_INPAGE_ERROR, CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED, and more. It doesn't seem to be associated with any particular app or thing that I do. This morning, I woke up to find that is BSODed in the middle of the night for apparently no reason.
I have tried SFC /SCANNOW (corrupt files can't be fixed), DISM restore_health, reinstalling Windows, check disk... You name it.

everything was working fine until today. Now, every download I attempt on Microsoft Edge comes up with the message "the signature of this program is corrupt or invalid".
I haven't made any changes to my PC, or installed any new software, and I cannot find any solutions to this.

I was attempting to upgrade my Toshiba 8.1 to windows 10 and was offered to update bios and Atheros Wireless Lan Driver. I mistakenly did both updates and now have lost the Lan Driver. I obtained usb system recovery from Toshiba but when I attempt to recover, the Atheros Wireless Lan Driver wont and I am stuck. Is there anyway that I can reinstall the driver and finish recovering my pc? I have download the driver onto my usb.

It came back to the windows 7 home screen and a message saying there had been a critical error with Windows and cortana and it would try to restore if I sign out then in again. I've don't just that a few times with the same message popping up. I can open the icons on the screen but the start menu will not pop up.
How do I go about reinstalling the OS?

No start & No cortana and a whole lot more missing in Win10 10240 Pro Insider. Program after program is not "connected" or "linked". I have done many "iso" but still the "banner headline" CRITICAL ERROR.... we'll try and fix the next time you sign in. This saga began over 2 weeks ago after stunning success on a HP Elite quad and a Dell 660s quad both insider upgrades to Win10 10240 with no problems.
But this HP Pavilion HPE AMD dual quad Nvidia GPU has been broken all this time. I can't communicate on it at all. During the upgrade the install % was 75 or 80 but the most I've seen since is fail around 25% install. Yet winver says I have Win10 10240 and it activated!
I've done many many bios interventions but none of them has changed my desktop HPE one bit. The "Critical Error, fail" banner is on permanently.
I probably could wait until MS catches up to their unfortunate "insiders" that have run into a "brick wall". But, can even they fix this "brick"?
Keeping in mind this is a bios (not Eufi) I can't even get to a "format" for the C: drive. How to "unbrick" this thing? Is "format" C: the answer?

I'm currently running a PC on Windows 8.1. Of the course of it's use, I've had numerous problems with installing drivers and other software and have tried multiple times to clean install the OS from the disk. I've gotten to the point where I can't install most software I download for some reason and I can't get Windows update. Any type of sfc, dism /RestoreHealth, or other commands of the like always return unfixable errors. Would my problems be fixed by choosing the "clean install" option on the upgrade or would lingering system files cause me trouble down the road? If the latter is true, is there a way to use my upgrade on a new SSD I plan to buy?

The start menu doesn't work (Critical Error: Your Start Menu Isn't Working. We'll try to fix it the next time you sign in.") Also not working are any of the start menu-related apps (weather, news, calculator, etc), Cortana and Edge Browser. Pretty much all the things that make Windows 10 so appealing don't work. We tried: runing "sfc /scannow", something with command prompt and Powershell, and another scan with "DSIM". Also tried logging in in Safe Mode and then restarting. BTW, the "sfc /scannow" did find errors and repaired them, but that didn't solve the problem. Go figure.
I really don't want to go back to Windows 8.1.
