Windows Update Broke Internet?
Oct 16, 2015
So I decided today "Hey, I haven't restarted in a couple of days, let's get it out of the way really quick." Then I restarted, Windows did an update like usual, and then I log back in. While logging back in I figured that I should be productive, and uninstall programs that I don't use anymore. So I started with this old VPN called Hotspot Shield that I got a while back that I used when I was having DDOS issues. So I uninstall it and it opens up my browser and bam! Internet isn't working.
Now I don't know if my internet stopped working because of the Windows update, or because the VPN was uninstalled, but I did a system restore to the day before and everything is working fine and dandy. Hotspot Shield is back on my computer, and I assume that Windows 10 rolled back on its update.
So my question is what broke my internet here? It worked on my brother's PC, my phone and tablets, but now my computer. Was it the VPN or the latest Windows update?

Ever since I installed the latest "service pack" of Windows 10, my start menu doesn't work and my battery doesn't charge. I've found work around for the start menu creating links on my desktop to my personal start menu and the all users start menu. For now, I just need to leave my computer plugged in. I've fixed the plugged in not charging in the past. But in the past, I've always had a laptop that has a removable battery. This laptop doesn't. But since all this is due to the major upgrade of 10, seems like there has to be a simple or common fix.

I was using RDP Wrapper:
RDP Wrapper Library by StasM Corp.
binarymaster/rdpwrap · GitHub
It allows a Remote Desktop Protocol session to log in as a separate user independent of the user logged in locally. Worked perfect until the 10586 update. Now it is "not supported"
I guess I could look at Team Viewer, but I loved RDP Wrapper because it added the capability I needed completely transparently to Windows 10.

Updated my computer from windows 7 a day ago to windows 10 and ever since I have not been able to get any internet. I have tried updating all of my drivers by using a USB stick but it made no difference and when I troubleshoot the problem it says "there might be a problem with the driver for the Ethernet adapter"
I had upgraded to Windows 10 before and had the same problem, but i downloaded the drivers for my motherboard and it fixed the problem, but later after that my windows didn't activate and windows support told me to take it back to Windows 7. I then had to uninstall my Ethernet drivers and reinstall the drivers and that fixed it but then I upgraded back to windows 10 and here ...
My specs :
- MSI Z97 GAMING 5 motherboard
- Intel i7 4550 possessor
- 16gb of ram
- Gigabyte GTX 970

I've recently downloaded Microsoft's Windows 10 update and ever since i'm having issues with my computer. First, I'm pretty sure the update made my computer crash because 2 days after the update, my OS completely shut down and i lost everything on my drives. I then reformatted it and installed back windows 8.1. However, I can't connect to internet since the crash, even though im connected via Ethernet. It says IPv6 has no internet connection and IPv4 just started to have the same problem. I tried to reset winsock entrie and tcp/ip stacks, but in vain. I also tried set google's open dns address, but no success there either.
Here's my ipconfig /all

issue of no internet connection after update to 10130? The motherboard is using Realtek Gigabit Ethernet. A check indicated there is driver issue which block connection to my Linksys EA9200 router. There is no issue with the previous build.

I am unable to get on the internet via my wireless wi-fi network since a Win 10 update was pushed out to me yesterday, 12/16/15. I get a message to the effect that it took too long to log into my wi-fi.
I first upgraded to Win 10 from Win 7 about 2 months ago on my laptop. I experienced no issues until I was forced to reboot yesterday morning. It took about 5 minutes (or so it seemed) for the updates to install. Since then, every time I try to go to the internet, it times out regardless of which browser (Chrome, Firefox, Opera) I try. All other devices in the house connect to the wi-fi network okay, so the problem is not with my network.
I tried the suggestion that involved typing "REG DELETE..." in the command line, but that did not work

After the latest update yesterday of win10, I was able to connect to the internet. But once my laptop was shut down, I've been unable to connect since. Rebooted wireless remote and double checked all of the connections. Defender took over as my firewall from Advast. I've been able to shut off Defender but am still unable to connect to the net. In my wanderings, I did come across "report" that information was being sent but nothing going past some unknown firewall. As far as I know there are only 2; defender and Advast.

After downloading Windows 10, my internet speed went significantly down, from 35 mbps to 4 mbps. I recovered my original Windows 8.1, hoping it was the new Windows that was causing the problem, but my computer is still very slow compared to what it used to be. I know the problem is in my computer because the three other PC's in my house are all working at normal speeds. I ran a virus scan with no luck. Could the Windows 10 upgrade have installed something that's still slowing down my internet?

I have not seen this question on here so far. It sounds like the upgrade will be sent by MS at their will. How would a 2-3 gig download work on a slow, metered connection. I wonder if there will be some other way? I have to do large downloads between 2 and 7 AM.

I'm running Win10 Home on an i5 5th gen laptop. I'm trying to download the big new Win10 update but I live in India and my internet is unreliable. Does the Win10 download auto-resume? I can't tell. Does the download pick up from where it left off if the internet fails? So far I can't tell one way or the other.

Title says it all. After waking from sleep mode the computer disconnects from the internet and I have to reboot to get a connection. Makes the whole point of having a "sleep" mode useless. This is annoying because often I go away from m y computer for a few hours during the day and don't want to have to reboot to get back onto my computer. Rebooting wears out the components and is uneccessary when it should simply wake from sleep mode with no hassles. I have a wired connection via ethernet cable. My router is always switched on.

After automatic online updates by MS the system was automatically set offline by MS!
Notes:
a) hardware is ok - verified by other OS
b) network connections were ok during automatic update and are still ok verified by other OS systems
c) the automatic update is the only change in the software
d) the only message was from MS browser "we are sorry you are not connected to Internet"!
Questions:
(1/5) What can be done ?
(2/5) Windows 10 advices to use online support in the situation MS update set PC offline, why ?
(3/5) How can one use online support after having forced to offline ?
(4/5) Is there any way to prevent Microsoft update to modify network drivers / drivers is general ?
(5/5) Why did the update by MS set the system offline after having completed its operations!

Well only 'View installed updates' works. (the earliest shows only one of 21 November - I thought November had a big update. no?)Clicking these does nothing:-
Win Update Elevated Installer
Win Update settings
Advanced Win Updates options
Check for Updates
As I updated via this on another computer yesterday with no problem (except updating 4 items took over 4 hours!!) what can be my present glitch be?

On Window 8.1. Boosted the install which a lot of people are doing by clearing SoftwareDistribution/Download and running the cmd prompt.
Downloaded the Windows 10 update, as soon as the Preparing to Install dialogue was done, the computer restart, trying to install a normal Windows 8.1 update instead.
Once I am booted up again, I get this error [URL] .... and try the fix.
Once I try and redownload the update again, it skips to 100%, then fails the update with the error 80070643 being reported.

as said above i own a windows 7 key and don't want to waste the time to get a 7 iso just to upgrade to windows 10 and i also will have a difficult time since i don't know how to install drivers onto windows 7 to get the internet for a z170 motherboard (it looked difficult) since windows 7 is legacy for the z170 chipset and it isint as simple as popping a disk in from what i saw(more of a glance).

As of now I've came across 2 Windows games Modern Combat 5: Blackout and Age of Sparta which shows me this below error even though I'm connected to 3G or 4G,
" No Internet connection available. Please make sure your device is connected to the Internet. "
I'm getting this error in Windows 10 now. I used to get it in Windows 8.1 too.

I had changed the system variables in order to change the default install drive. My C drive is an SSD and I didn't want Adobe hashing up my SSD if it wasn't necessary. Everything seemed to be working well, but windows update will not apply updates and internet explorer (and some other) software will not run. Possibly due to the system variables, but I am unsure what to change or if that is even at fault.

Here are my registry settings for the program files folder. I changed it from C to E.

I need to be able to update, and IE has to be used occasionally. (I exclusively use chrome so I hadn't really noticed that IE wasn't working.)

But I'm currently browsing the internet and typing to you.
In fact - I can do virtually everything (League; Steam; Skype; etc) except use any OS feature that requires logging in -
e.g. Mail, User Accounts, Shop, etc. Then it says something along the lines of "Cannot use this service without an internet connection - please connect and try again." When I run Network Diagnostics as the prompt recommends - it says I am connected and cannot find a problem.
It doesn't always happen - but it seems to be determined on start-up. If I restart it now it might be working next launch - but 75% of the time it will encounter the same issue. It's been happening for months now but I've sort of gotten used to using my phone to check my emails - but I've now encountered an issue with one of my hard drives being unable to be searched (tried indexing, etc) and the only step I've found that I haven't tried says it could be a corrupted user account - but I cannot update my user account without "connecting to the internet". -_-
The system is up to date. No driver updates available.

A long time ago I got a windows key through my workplace which I used on my home computer.. I know it's a valid key as I ran the genuine software test.
I also have Service pack one and it says that I have windows 7 professional -- so I know it's not enterprise.
But still I don't have any update popups.. and when I tried to run the manual installer I just got a "something happened 0x80070002 - 0x20016" and the program shuts down.what's wrong?
