Using my laptop (alienware 15 R2) as normal, when my Bluetooth mouse suddenly stops working. I tried new batteries and even tried to pair it again, nothing. I type Bluetooth into the search/ Cortana bar and all it pulls up is 'Airplane Mode' settings. Under that is a toggle to turn on/ off wifi and Bluetooth. The Bluetooth option is set to off and greyed out, so I cant change it. At this point I try to reboot the computer. It tells me that it is completing new windows updates, so thinking this is the problem.
Upon rebooting the computer, mouse still does not work. Now when I look for Bluetooth settings, they are simply gone. There is no listing for Bluetooth under devices or even under the airplane mode as I mentioned above, it is simply gone. I tried going to dell and downloading a new driver, still nothing. I am back to using my old faithful Logitech wired mouse now.
I looked at the windows update history for today 12/16/15 and it lists two windows defender updates that were successfully installed and 11 failed installs of "Upgrade to Windows 10 Home, version 1511, 10586"
I have just updated Windows 10 to Version 1511 Build 10586.36, and files stored locally in My Documents have disappeared. Photos are still there but documents are nowhere to be found.
I just updated to windows 10 and when I first started up my computer my files were there, just moved to a different folder(i had to access them through C:/users) I then restarted my computer and now all of files that were on my desktop, downloads folder, pictures, and music folder have all disappeared. Searching for them using Cortana gives no results. Is there anyway I can get them back? Should I try restoring my system to Windows 7?
last night my computer automatically updated itself and by morning the strangest thing had happened. My deskop was all differently organized, the wallpaper was some random windows image, the Start menu was very different as well.
Folder of documents/music, etc were empty (though the data was elsewhere). Worse: I use firefox and my passwords cache is suddenly empty, no history of yesterday's activity, basically no nothing. Is there a way to recover my passwords/bookmarks or am I failing to see something on the big picture?
The latest update changed a lot of my settings, like my mouse sensitivity, along with resetting my background to its default image and resetting my task bar to default. My biggest issue is that it deleted all my pictures in the "Pictures" folder. if they put them in the cloud? Or am I just fucked and have to go down to the head developers house and chuck eggs at it.
I waited for Windows 10 to get rid of Windows .old and Windows.~BT folders but it never happened. If the scheduled task for disk cleanup is supposed to do it I discovered the task will only run on my laptop when I am plugged into power and only if the system is idle. That does not happen very often on this laptop.
So I decided to use the disk cleanup app built into Windows to remove previous operating systems and installation files. It got rid of the Windows.~BT folder and emptied the Windows.old file of everything except one folder within Windows.old for something in folder AMD64_prnLx00.inf..... and file Lxktptprc.dll.mui. I can not delete or rename it and I have the correct privileges. This laptop has dual boot with Windows 8.1 on one side and Windows 10 now on the other. Windows 10 upgraded my W7Pro side over a month ago.
I got all my space back but would like to know if there is a way to finally remove the Windows.old folder.
I have just deleted an draft email message in my Windows Outlook. I have searched and tried "so-called solutions" I don't wish to sound over-dramatic but this really is life or death
I freely admit that, in the greater scheme of crashes, re-installs and general weirdness that has been my Win10 experience to date, this is a very tiny thing. But it's annoying me. I'm using CSR bluetooth stack 2.1.63. First time I installed it, it worked perfectly. Now I'm on a more successful rebuild, I cannot get the correct Bluetooth icon in the task bubble! It's always grayed out (and even this was a challenge; I had no icon until I re-did the driver installation twice.)
It struck me that it might not be too hard to either change Windows' path to the icon or replace the grey one with blue. If only I knew where to look. What do you think?
I have an SSD (This PC) for Windows, HDD (secondary disk) for files and whatnot. Running Windows 10 64-bit Home.
I saw that you could move apps to another disk through Apps & features in Settings, so I decided to try it out.
I moved an app to my secondary disk, and it cluttered up with like 3 folders (my personal folder, WindowsApps, wpsystem). Changed my mind on this, and moved the app back to my SSD.
I tried deleting the extra folders left over...only to find out that WindowsApps can't be deleted on my secondary disk.
So, basically:
WindowsApps is completely empty on my secondary disk. I tried taking ownership, tried Unlocker, tried the administrator account, tried changing security options. They were all denied access, what to do next.
Am I stuck with this empty WindowsApps folder on my secondary disk?
My Lumia 935 windows phone always routinely sent pictures to my Lenovo IdeaCentre desktop when I have Windows 8 and 8.5. I upgraded to Windows 10. Both devices have Bluetooth on. The computer says my phone is paired with it. I try to upload a picture and I get the message "the device you're trying to send to doesn't support sharing over Bluetooth." We've restarted both devices.
Okay, so the other week i received a new Clevo P650SE laptop. The laptop only had a 500GB 7200RPM HDD with Windows 10 to begin with, so yesterday i added my Samsung 840 EVO SSD. As i wanted this to now be the primary drive, i made another new installation of Windows onto here. After doing this, the system now displayed a boot selection at startup with the choice between the new Windows 10 installation on my SSD or the old one on the HDD.
As i no longer wanted to use the HDD for running Windows, i decided it would be best to delete Windows from this drive. So i booted onto an Ubuntu USB and wiped the entire drive of it's data in GParted, which included three different partitions. This seemed perfectly fine to me at the time, because i had a the new installation from the SSD showing up in the boot manager.
However, when i rebooted the machine and attempted to boot into the new installation on the SSD, it gives me this message:
"The boot configuration data from your PC is missing or contains errors. File: /EFI/Microsoft/Boot/BC Error code: 0xc000000f"
I have tried everything to recover the system but nothing has worked. Startup repair from my Windows USB doesn't do anything, the system reset wouldn't operate because it stated that the partition was locked.
Nothing with the Command Prompt is working, I have done 'bootrec /fixmbr', 'bootrec /fixboot' and 'bootrec /rebuildbcd', but the last command returns the following error:
"The requested system drive cannot be found."
I also did 'bcdboot C:/Windows' but that also refused to work. I assumed the reason for this might be because the drive didn't have a letter, but when i attempted to add a letter is says:
"The specified drive letter is not free to be assigned."
Both drives in my laptop have now been completely wiped and converted to MBR, but even with the two drives empty the original message still appears when booting my Windows USB in UEFI.
I have only had this laptop a couple of weeks and it's already completely messed up. I can boot the Windows USB in Legacy and install Windows as normal, but of course i'm looking to have it back on UEFI as it was before.
So yesterday as I am updating my video drivers windows crashed. It wouldn't do a system restore for whatever reason thus i did a reset. It said it would keep all my files and it did for the most part but firefox got deleted. and thus all my bookmarks and history gone. For whatever reason sync wont do anything like restore addons or bookmarks and im at a loss.
i don't have any bluetooth or even wireless devices but in the action center bluetooth is always turned on! and when i click on it, Its just open Settings.
Being more techie, year ago I recommended my bro Lumia 520, over Android, tho it was way behind Android, expecting it to improve over time.
I sent an epub file to my bro's Lumia 520 from my android and lost it. Cant open that file on his Lumia. Cant browse bluetooth folder in Microsoft Files explorer and Aerize File Explorer.
No book reader Sparrow reader, bookvise reader shows up that file in their list.
Whats going on? 2-3 years later, does WP still lacks capability to open up epub file sent over bluetooth?
Gotta try out this precise scenario: "Send epub file from Android to WP and open it in WP" and tell me, I lost 2 hrs today.
If not possible in WP 8.1, hope Windows 10 fixes this, but need confirmation about WP 8.1
Well only 'View installed updates' works. (the earliest shows only one of 21 November - I thought November had a big update. no?)Clicking these does nothing:-
On Window 8.1. Boosted the install which a lot of people are doing by clearing SoftwareDistribution/Download and running the cmd prompt.
Downloaded the Windows 10 update, as soon as the Preparing to Install dialogue was done, the computer restart, trying to install a normal Windows 8.1 update instead.
Once I am booted up again, I get this error [URL] .... and try the fix.
Once I try and redownload the update again, it skips to 100%, then fails the update with the error 80070643 being reported.
A long time ago I got a windows key through my workplace which I used on my home computer.. I know it's a valid key as I ran the genuine software test.
I also have Service pack one and it says that I have windows 7 professional -- so I know it's not enterprise.
But still I don't have any update popups.. and when I tried to run the manual installer I just got a "something happened 0x80070002 - 0x20016" and the program shuts down.what's wrong?
