View 3 RepliesWhen I scroll to make my selection in a drop-down menu, the menu just disappears before I get a chance to select an option from the menu.
It happens over and over, even when I do my best to be quick in my selection. It is very frustrating when filling out forms, especially when unable to manually type selection in the box.
Don't know if it is related or not, but also having frustrations with keyboard... While typing, letters will not show when I type them. I must constantly be reading as I type to make sure each letter appears. Sometimes must hit the key 3-5 times before it appears.
I have a feeling this is not related to Windows 10... just thought I'd mention it too. Took me forever to type this!
Is it possible to move the command bar?
When I click at the extreme left, I get a 4 pointed arrow which suggest I can move it, but it will not (yes I have unlocked it!).
I can move this folder by myself and i'm not trying to move this folder to another partition or drive. This folder can be moved with "Move" command if i move it by myself first. Also, other folders that are in the same folder as problematic one can be moved without any problems. Move command from command prompt.

What command used to do this?
I have a batch command to back up a subdirectory:
xcopy "C:All*" "E:Allback*" /E /Q
How can I hide the command window during the execution?
So my mail app was not opening links. So I looked up how to reinstall the mail app. Got to this: [URL]....
I uninstalled the apps, then ran the powershell command: Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers| Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)AppXManifest.xml"} to reinstall the mail app.
A bunch of red errors appeared in the prompt and now my start menu, notifications, onedrive,... won't work.

How do I restore these functions? sfc also does not work in Powershell but does work in CMD. Also, it does nothing.
I use Adobe After Effects, which I often need to run multiple copies of using the -m switch. Windows 7 let me modify the shortcut in the start menu so it'd start with this switch, which if AE is already running means it'll launch a new instance of it, rather than switching to the instance I've already got open. However, in Win10 I can't find any way to do this - it has the same behaviour that launching AE from the task bar in Win7 did, ie it just switches to the already open instance. Is there a way to add the switch I need?
Just dragged it onto the desktop as a shortcut, and interestingly there's no option to add the switch there either (in Properties)..
EDIT: I can create a shortcut with the switch in Program Files (or presumably elsewhere on the C drive), but right-clicking and choosing "Pin to Start" seems to remove that switch. It opens a second copy when I launch the shortcut from Program Files, but not from Start.

How do I add the keyboard shortcut command "ctrl+F" to the Internet Explorer context menu? I know where I need to go in the registry to add an item to the context menu of Internet Explorer, but I don't know how to add a keyboard shortcut.
View 4 RepliesDrag and drop doesn't do anything, the tile just disappears an reappears when I release the mouse.
View 9 RepliesI'm using 3 screens, and I have moved the taskbar to the middlescreen. But when I press the startbutton the start menu pops up on the screen to the left, which isnt really that great. Is it possible to move the start menu so that it pops up on the middlescrren instead of the one to the left?
View 5 RepliesI cannot move the tiles on the start menu. As soon as I try to click and drag one it immediately disapears, only to reappear in the original location when I reboot.
Everything else seems to work with them, I can pin new apps (although I haven't worked out how to get them in a correct group) unpin and resize.
Cannot move, copy or delete folders in widows 10 file explorer. I get the message "cannot find item This is no longer located in F:video. Verify the item's location and try again." Does not matter which drive or which folder, this is always the result. I can however click on the folder, open it and move, copy or delete the files inside the folder. I am then stuck with empty folders all over my computer.
I have been using Windows 10 for a number of months without this issue, just stared happening this morning.
I have very annoying problem with the start menu. When I expand the menu horizontally, the tiles wont move in to the empty space. I have tried everything. Cant move them manually either by dragging. Tiles just stay left. Here's picture of my problem: [URL] ....

View 7 RepliesHow does one pin a FILE (eg. excel/word/powerpoint) to the start menu?
I saw some tricks for Windows 8 about pasting the file in "%USERPROFILE%AppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsStart Menu" but this does not work.
It is very annoying having to pin an entire folder when I can just pin the file.
I created the file google.bat with the following content: start "" "[URL] ...."
What I want to do is add this file to the start menu.
The objective is to be able to execute it with Cortana by saying "hey Cortana, open google".
If I add the file into C:Users**User**AppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuProgramsSystem Tools
it doesn't show on the start menu.
At one point I added a folder (and it did show on the start menu) into c:program dataMicrosoftwindowsstart menuprograms
but when I restarted the computer it disappeared.
New install upgrade from Win7 and I cannot understand why the folder icons are kind of incomplete ??
View 2 RepliesIs there a bat file to backup and restore the start menu?
View 1 RepliesThe last few days I've been changing and customizing some of my start menu icons in Windows 10, largely because some of the program icons clash with the Windows Store app tiles and I wanted the start menu to look appealing.
I ran a system file check via Powershell with administrator privileges and I had zero issues. Then, I changed the icon of Windows Defender via Start > All Apps > Windows System > Windows Defender > right click > more > open file location and changing the icon of the Windows Defender shortcut in the destination folder.
Then, I ran system file check again and now it continually fails and cannot fix the corrupted files. I've since changed the icon back but the issue persists.
I am not able to open the file explorer through the option on the start menu, or by clicking on the file explorer pinned to the task bar. When I click the pinned file explorer the window that pops up says "Windows cannot find ''. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again." I am able to navigate through to my files by going to the start menu file explorer's jump list (clicking the arrow to the right of the file explorer option on the start menu).
All of these issues began after I had been messing around with custom themes. I ran UltraUXThemePatcher_3.0.4 and then I changed the following files (themeui.dll,uxinit.dll, and uxtheme.dll). Next, I ran a registry editor file that made it so I can take ownership via right click. I also followed these steps in this article: [Windows 10 Tip] Remove Icons from Navigation Pane of This PC - AskVG up to the end of "Part 2: Remove Quick Access Icon From Navigation Pane of This PC". The last thing I did was install a custom icon pack.
I was looking to see if there is a way to add the W7 File, Edit, Tools, Help, etc. Menus to W10 Folders. I searched but found nothing at all. Maybe I am not searching correctly or calling it the correct thing.
If not, is there any way to add commands to the Quick Access Toolbar in Folders? I see you can add some limited stuff like Redo, Rename, etc. But I would like to add some basic commands like copy and paste, etc.
after updating win7 to win10 i immediately customized my start menu tiles and it looked really awesome while still being organised. After encountering numerous problems with poorly migrated programs i did a fresh install ( like a month ago) and havent been able to find that same perfect arrangement.
where is the layout for the tiles in the start menu stored?
i still have the .vhd from the backup so i can find a file if necessary, but i dont know where the info is stored.
