View 1 RepliesThis weekend I had several BSODs while playing games. 2 times the system simply crashed black screen and restarted, 1 time I received a BSOD MEMORY_MANAGEMENT error, and 2 times I received a BSOD IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN error and a restart.
The MEMORY_MANAGEMENT and one black screen crash occurred while playing Forged Alliance Supreme Commander, then the IRQL errors and a black screen crash occurred while playing Steam version of Age of Empires II.

I was working on this laptop when quite often, after startup or in the middle of something (random), the screen goes blank and flickers, with random lines, etc. but you can't see anything.
When I am able to actually see because the problem hasn't started yet, everything works fine, no slowdowns, etc.
Moving the lid does nothing to alleviate the problem.
What is the potential causes? GPU? Battery? HDD? I did a BIOS test that said the HDD needed to be replaced. Laptop is older, back in the times of Vista. But I don't think it is the OS because this happens right at boot sometimes, other times at the logon screen, and others while inside.
On a Dell Vostro 3550 laptop, there were a few issues with Windows 7, so I erased the drive, did a fresh install of Windows 7 Pro, downloaded and installed all of the drivers from Dell. Then did a Windows 10 upgrade. When Windows 10 would first boot, it kept giving a 0x error. I did all of the Windows 10 updates and that error went away. But it would boot to a black screen.
I plugged an external monitor into the laptop and updated the BIOS to A12 and I have video on the laptop again. The main problem I have now is every minute or so, the screen will flicker and explorer restarts. As soon as it flickers, the task bar is gone for a second and then reappears. I have uninstalled the video and sound drivers but this didn't change anything. Is there something else to try to get Windows 10 to work correctly on this laptop?
Installed Windows 10 plus all driver updates on Dell XPS laptop. Screen flickers and dances sometimes.
View 1 RepliesI have an Asus Zenbook UX303LA, and I upgraded to 10 yesterday. When I put the comp to sleep and wake it up by opening the lid, the screen begins blacking out and refreshing. Everything else seems fine--I can open apps, navigate the desktop and so on, in between the black outs. The problem has so far been solved by restarting each time. I can't find any information on this issue, so I don't know what might be causing it (driver incompatibility with 10 seems a likely culprit--this was not at all an issue with 8.1, which is what I was running prior to the upgrade).
View 2 RepliesEver since i upgraded to windows 10, there are black bars on each side of the screen when i play!
View 1 Replieswhile playing video (using any software media player, movies & tv, internet explorer youtube, google chrome youtube, vlan), all other inactive windows (any other windows) turn blank and white. I have updated video drivers, did not make a difference. I have then uninstalled all video card driver and used only default windows drivers, played video with same result. Therefore, I am sure it is windows. Tonight while trying to watch the bowl games, I typically watch video and browse/study using IE/Chrome. This is pretty typical for me, but the browser windows turning black and white is getting really annoying.
View 5 RepliesI have recently upgraded to Windows 10 on an eight year old laptop which previously was running Windows 7. Everything appears to have gone well and I am enjoying the new operating system. However, every time I boot up and get to the desktop a small box appears on the screen with the following wording "Warning. The program don't support the project" with an OK button and an X close button. Clicking on either of these closes the box and I simply carry on as normal. What concerns me is the bad grammar "don't support" and I am concerned it might be some sort of malware.
I attach a screenshot.
I just did an upgrade from Win 7 Home Premium to Win 10 Home. After few minutes when the system is idle, I get the PROJECT SCREEN options Panel open up by itself. To close it I have to click on the desktop for it to disappear.
View 1 RepliesI made the mistake of setting project mode to second display only even though I have no second display on. I had to un/re-plug my monitor to correct it.Ever since it has been booting to the non-existent display, and will spuriously change over. The BIOS loading screens to show but as soon as windows is up, my monitor shows the "no signal" message. Is there a way to hard reset the project mode settings?I corrected the issue by fully uninstalling and reinstalling my graphics drivers.
View 1 RepliesI upgraded from windows ultimate to windows 10. my computer boots through everything and finally brings up my old windows 7 desktop screen and then everything goes black, but mouse shows up on black screen. Is this a driver problem with windows 10? However, before the black screen appears the new start button and screen appears as the windows 10
View 1 Repliesafter been using Windows 10 since launch I've got annoyed by those silly things whenever I click start menu for longer than like 2 or 3 minutes. When it happens, the windows desktop flickers to black. I uninstalled the drivers and used the microsoft generic drivers and it does the same thing. Of course, when I go to safe mode and I can't use the start menu as it just opens and closes in less than the second on its own. Because of this I've been researching this through Google and it somehow all of that kinda doesn't seem to relate to that. Also, I get the error message when I shut down and I couldn't get to see the error message because windows shuts all that stuff down.

Is it possible to have the Lock screen play a video....?
View 2 RepliesI did a bit of research and this seems to have been an issue for a while, or has been in the past. Was upgrading to windows 10, I first had to restart my pc cause it was initially stuck on that preparing to install problem with the green bar being stuck around 25%.
It then got through that and began the installation process with the big circle and rebooting process. However around 91% when I last looked at it it was just black screen, this stayed this way for about 3-4 hours. I then decided to reboot the pc and it has now booted to the login screen. Is this a known bug or could there be a possible issue?
The problem seems a bit different as some people I saw have had to fall back on PC restore points etc. So not sure if it installed or what could be the problem.
Also side note, I upgraded my pc when windows 10 first publically released, but rolled back because I had about 5min shutdown times.
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge with an Intel I5 processor, 64 bit with no hardware upgrades (stock). I had accidentally stepped on the screen (fell off my lap and then crunch) which was mangled beyond repair, so I have been using it similar to a tower, with a VGA and/or HDMI connected monitor (my HDMI cable went bad, I picked up a new cable but hadn't hooked it up to the second monitor. I started my free upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium to 10 last night. I woke up to the black screen/mouse pointer issue which is what brought me to this thread. I tried the recommended fix:
1. Hit ctrl, type in password and enter
2. Win Key + P + Down Arrow. (Win Key + P only seems to do the same thing)
This brought up options to
1. Disconnect projector (Tried this and lost connection to the VGA even after reboot)
2. Duplicate (Screen is still black with mouse cursor, but I saw a little bit of red and blue pixels at the bottom where the task bar should be until I disconnected and re-connected the VGA, then it was back to black screen and cursor)
3. Extend (still black screen and cursor)
4. Connect Projector (still black screen and cursor)
I'm not sure what to do. I must have some OS installed, because I am able to also perform these operations from my USB Keyboard/Mouse. I'm just not sure how to get Windows back on my VGA connection (I haven't tried HDMI because I did not have it connected when I ran the update.) I thought Duplicate displays would do the trick, but apparently not. For as beat up as the laptop is on the outside, the hardware performs fine. I also have a 2nd laptop (work laptop, also a Lenovo W541) that I can use if any solution involves downloading something bootable.
I have been trying to play xcom 2 for the past week and every time during the first 10-30 minutes the game crashes along with the pc and I get a red screen with no text. I have to manually turn off my computer and my pc creates a dump file. This has happened every time except twice when I was able to play the game for over 2 hours straight. My pc was playing games fine, it's just xcom 2 right now. I uploaded my dump files, they are all from when my pc crashed from playing xcom 2 and the first three were red screen crashes the last one was a bsod. I am going to lost everything I have done and checked so far.
-I have turned off just about all of the extra graphical settings there are in the options menu, I even lowered the settings of the game even though my ps specs can handle the game on max settings.
-I tried to validate game files through steam.
-I tried to play in windowed mode and turned off antivirus
-I ran memtest86 (the newest version) for several hours with zero errors and 7 passes.
-I ran stress tests on my cpu and gpu, again no problems there, and if my power supply was able to support my gpu through furmark that means it should isn't faulty correct?
-I ran driver verifier for several hours, no crash.
-I am pretty sure all of my drivers are up to date, should I download driver booster or another software to check that?
Have you heard of these red screen crashes from other people and xcom 2 since it is a new game and it could just have problems? Also windows 10 might be to blame, but there's nothing I can do about that.
Do my dump files say what is causing the crashes?
After I had upgraded to Windows 10 , I am constantly getting a green or black screen when ever I try to play any video. I get the sound but cannot see video. It has happened on YouTube , amazon videos and any other video I try to view.
View 19 RepliesI bought a Dell Latitude E7440 Laptop, I don't know why but all the drivers were out of date and that caused me a lot of problems. After 2 days trying to fix it i had the conclusion that every thing is ok. But now I have this problem:
MEMORY MANAGEMENT
On a blue screen only when i plug-in a mice and play.I have windows 10.
When I boot up my computer (to windows 10). It will do the Asus splash screen then instead of going straight to windows if does this black screen with the kinda terminal thing (with no writing/text) then goes on to windows. Does this affect my computer?

Im running x2 gtx 970 on SLI
i5 4690 on a z97x gaming 3 mobo
8gb ddr3 2133mhz ram.
Now i never got any of this on windows 7, i upgraded whilst keeping files and stuff, and i figured the driver was calling this, now i completely uninstalled nvidia software and all the drivers on device manager, then scanned for them and re-installed windows 10 64bit versions of them on freshly, now it continues to happen, if i have multiple tabs of videos on my pc crashes giving me that message.
Okay so I updated from windows 7 to windows 10 i have these black bars around my screen instead of a full screen so I tried changing the resolution because it was set to 800x600 so I change it to 1920x1080.
View 1 RepliesThe black screen occurs before login screen. It happens randomly. I have to move the mouse (haven't tried pressing keyboard) and it will show the login screen and windows will continue normally. On my device driver it shows only 1 display adapter that is NVIDIA GTX 970. My motherboard is H87-PLUS and its specs shows that it does have an Integrated Graphics Processor.
Tried installing Intel Graphics Driver but just shows 'This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing this software.' Tried disabling the lock screen too but its not working. Tried putting PCI-E as the default graphics in BIOS but its not working either. how could I prevent the black screen from showing up again?
After log on I get black screen,I can get into task manager. Is there a way to restart computer in safe mode from task manager new task?
