Can't Connect To Web Search Since Upgrading?
Aug 12, 2015
Since upgrading to Win 10 I don't seen to be able to search. When I type something into the "Search the web and Windows" box, I get the following message, "We can't connect to web search right now but you can still search your stuff. Make sure you are currently connected to the internet." I am connected to the internet as my web browsers all work and so does my email client, Outlook.
If I go into Network and Internet|Ethernet, the Local Area Connection icon displays "Connected" under it. If I click on "Network and Sharing Center" under "View you active networks" it says "You are currently not connected to any networks." If I click on "Set up a new connection or network" and then choose a connection option of "Connect to the Internet" and then the "Next" button, I get a message "You are already connected to the Internet" ?????

Computer: HP Elite 8000 C2D E8400 Win 10 64 Bit 4GB RAM .Windows 10 upgrade from Win7 installed. Have installed Office 10 and Chrome. Microsoft edge default browser.
Problem: When I click the "Search the web and Windows " box I get "We can't connect to web search right now but you can still search your stuff. Make sure you are currently connected to the internet."
I am connected to the internet and if I type a "web question" into the box it opens Edge and give me the answer. Edge stopped working so I reset it with "Reset_Microsoft_Edge" from this forum, now it is working again, but I have this new problem.

A couple of days back I upgraded to windows 10. I upgraded from Windows 7 to 10 successfully and no problems. After that today I open my laptop and I have a black screen. I move my touchpad thinking I'm going to get to the login screen but still nothing happens. I hit the power button on my laptop to shut down and it does that. I turn on my computer I'm able to get to the login screen. I put my password then I see a black screen. I have IObit Advanced SystemCare so in the corner that's what I see but the rest is black. I wait for a while nothing happens then shut off the pc. Same thing happened and then I think at the third or fourth time I turn on my computer then go to the living room and come back and it's fixed. I play Minecraft so I was doing that. I also have a touchpad issue where when I hold the keys down I can't move my mouse but I already know the solution for that and so when I go to click the start button nothing happens. I was confused and thought maybe it was just slower than normal. I clicked the search button; nothing happened. I then search up on the web "unable to click start button on windows 10" and I find a post with a solution but wasn't really for me:
Open Windows PowerShell as Administrator
Right click Start buttonChoose Command prompt (Admin)Key in Powershell in the black window and hit Enter
Paste the following command in the Administrator: Windows PowerShell window and press Enter key:Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)AppXManifest.xml"}Wait for PowerShell to execute and complete the command. Ignore the few errors (in red color) that may pop up.When it finishes, try hitting Start and hopefully itll start working. If not, this solution wont apply to you, unfortunately.

This didn't actually work I have my cmd open still and nothing has happened.

Win 10 Enterprise. Worked fine for a couple of days, but now I cannot seem to bring up the start menu and start typing anything. It will not search. I also tried in the search box or spyglass... I just click on it and nothing happens. It is a major inconvenience. I don't want to do a restore and keep my files, because there is a HUGE list of applications I will then need to restore. I also tried to click on Cortana, but clicking the app does nothing, doesn't even bring it up.
I tried re-indexing search items, I tried the search troubleshooter. I have rebooted, I have installed all updates. Someone on another forum said kill the Cortana task... well there isn't one running.

I Just bought a new XPS 13 (lowest end model) that came with Microsoft 10 pre-installed (bought it from Microsoft store). my problem is that I cannot search for settings in the main search bar or even the settings search bar, the settings search bar simply doesn't work at all, and to double check that this wasn't a windows 10 issue I tried it out on a friend's Laptop and it worked fine. I took screenshots of both my Laptop and my friend's.
My Laptop:
searching for "add or remove" brings up nothing, even in the settings search
My friend's Laptop:
as you can see it works fine on my friend's laptop bringing up the settings i was searching for

Sometimes when I boot my PC I cannot search in the Search Bar, I have to restart the system then it usually works fine again until the next reboot.I have decided to rebuild the index to just the things I use regularly (I know how to navigate through the system so I don't usually need to search for much, it's purely ease).
These are the things which have been excluded: $SysReset; AMD; Fraps; history; inetpub; Intel; MSOCache; NPE; Perflogs; Program Files (x64); Program Files; ProgramData; Appdata; Appdata; WindowsIt has currently (after 1 hour) indexed 4,000 items. Do any of these things need to be indexed, Program Files for example? If they do not need to be then I probably will exclude them.

I am on windows 10, tried to map my NAS using map network drive but says "Windows cannot access Nas102 check spelling or might be problem with your network. Next, I tried to map a specific folder inside Nas102 and it worked! For example Nas102Music I also tried to make a fake folder name and map that for example, Nas102FakeFolder and the error said check spelling of "fakefolder" Nas102 was detected but not the fakefolder. trying to connect to the whole NAS instead of just mapping individual folders inside of the NAS.

After updating to Windows 10 I cannot sign in to a Microsoft account, look at the Store or do anything that requires connection. I initially thought it was something wrong with my connection to the WiFi but my browser can connect and download from the internet fine and I am writing this on the same laptop.

Today, while having lunch at my favorite restaurant, I tried to connect to their WiFi network as I usually do. I got the following message:Checking network resources. And then, after a few seconds: Can't connect to this network. My obvious question is, why not? To begin with, was it something wrong with my computer, or something wrong with their network?
For example:
DHCP server did not respond
DHCP server did not issue an IP addressStored password incorrect; enter new password: _________
WiFi adapter card not respondingInsufficient virtual memory
But no, none of that useful information was offered. How am I supposed to fix the problem?

There are a few networks I cannot connect to and I'm not sure why. Most networks like the one I have at home, I am able to connect, however when I am at my friend's house or some cafe, it doesn't let me connect to the internet. I tried updating my drivers and it still doesn't connect. It was able to connect few months ago when I had windows 8.1 but when I upgraded to windows 10, I started facing these problems.
It doesn't tell me what to problem is either. It just says "Cannot connect to network"

I have set up a Homegroup on two laptops which use Windows 10 and both connect to the Homegroup. However, neither will display any computers on the Homegroup.I have tried all sorts of things but all I seem to get from the Homegroup trouble shooter is that there are network problems. I have tried changing the advanced sharing options on both laptops to:
1. Turn on network discovery and ticking automatic setup ....
2. Turn on file and printer sharing
3. Allow windows to manage ....
Then clicking save changes. When I go back into the screen the radio button that I selected for turn on network discovery has been deselected and the turn off button selected. Nothing seems to make any difference!

Ever since I got my computer (which came with Windows 10), I've had trouble connecting to the internet. Every time I shut down and start it up again, it's never online even though I'm using a cat 5 cable hooked directly to the source. My laptop can connect wirelessly, so that's how I know my internet is fine, but it's a Mac (which I'm currently using) so it's a completely different OS.
Usually if I went into the command prompt and did ipconfig /release then /renew, it fixes it, and I'm online. But ever since doing a recent Windows Update that trick doesn't seem to be working anymore. I.E. ipv4 and ipv6 are enabled, tried turning off Firewall temporarily to see if that was the issue, tried uninstalling antivirus software.

I cannot seem to connect on Ethernet though Wi-Fi works OK. I have seen several articles about ethernet problems with Win10.
CABLING
First the network config:
Two notebooks, C and D are plugged into a switch and the switch plugged into the router. Now, the cabling is verified to work because computer C, running Win7 connects just fine and if the internet cables are swapped, computer C still connects just fine.
Computer D however does not connect. I did some other things to redundantly check too, just FYI.
So cabling looks OK.
ROUTER
both computers have fixed (reserved) IP addresses in the router.
The router sees computer C
but not computer D
Just FYI, if I turn on Wi-Fi, the router sees D on WiFi, but not the ethernet.
PING
Computer C can ping D
Computer D can ping C
Computer C can ping the router
Computer D cannot ping the router
Some investigation suggested the following, all of which I tried with no better results:
- Update the network adapter drivers (already current)
- Winsock posible culprit, so NETSH WINSOCK RESET and reboot - no change
IE used to find and fix these things pretty well, but here we have EDGE. Perhaps I'll try to install IE. Connectivity diagnostics are where IE shined over Chrome and Mozilla.
UPDATE: IE 9, 10, etc. are not compatible with Windows 10. So, the connectivity diagnostics just not as good in Win10. I can tell I am getting tired, as it's getting hard not to swear.
UPDATE: Added a pretty picture.

I upgraded to Windows 10 two months ago. Last week, I lost networking. I've scanned the posts and haven't found a solution.
Network troubleshooter says adapter might be the problem, device manager shows adapter working normally. Power saving not enabled. No VPN installed. Original adapter is Broadcomn NetLink Gigabit Ethernet.
Too late to roll back to Windows 7.
Installed new Realtek PCIe GBE Ethernet adapter that is Windows 10 compatible. Tried an old USB Netgear wireless approach.
Cannot connect desktop to network at all. All other tablets, laptops work fine.
Tried all suggested command prompts (netsh, etc).
Tried updating drivers by downloading to tablet and then transferring to computer.

Have 4 computers & NAS on the "Workgroup" within a private network. Most are using static IP addressing, one is using DHCP.
Two are Windows 7 machines, two have been upgraded to Windows 10.
The "Network" on the windows 7 machines show everything including the windows 10 machines and the NAS.
Both of the Windows 10 machines show both of the windows 7 machines but not the other windows 10 machine nor the NAS.
The NAS can be connected to the windows 10 machines using the app even though they do not show up on the windows 10 machines "Network". (Not a real problem & has been addressed in other forums)
When ARP -a is run on any of the Windows 7 or 10 machines, all the other IP addresses are there including the NAS.
All of the machines can ping the other IP addresses on the network.
It would seem that something in the Windows 10 OS is not allowing the other Windows 10 machine to show up in "Network".
Windows 10 appears to be a great upgrade even without the network mapping feature that was in windows 7 nor showing the NAS.
Prior to upgrading the 2 windows 7 machines (now on windows 10) to windows 10, everything was working just fine. Four computers and the NAS were showing up in "Network" and connectivity was excellent.
Before I convert the remaining two Windows 7 machines to Windows 10, I must know just what is causing this issue and the solution. The inability to communicate between these two computers, if not solvable, is a deal breaker.
