URL...How do I remove the "Audio Contol" label and just show the icons of the programs? In windows 7 I could just click and drag, and it stayed through my first windows 10 install, but I reinstalled today to fix a bug and now I can't accomplish this.
View 1 RepliesThe new search box take too much space on my toolbar. Can I reduce it or remove completely the search box?

I managed to change the search engine to Google in the new Win10 search located in the menu and also in Edge. However, the little address toolbar, that can be added to the taskbar by putting a checkmark in the address toolbar after right clicking on the taskbar and choosing toolbars has suddenly switched to Bing as the search engine. I would love to have this set at Google as it always was. I find this toolbar so much more convenient than the one that came with the new win10 menu. I have already turned off Cortana over there.
View 3 RepliesI have a Dell Inspiron N5110 that I just upgraded to Windows 10 yesterday. It's been working mostly without a hitch, but I've run into the dreaded "constant refresh" problem with the desktop and toolbar. It happens maybe every minute or so. I can use the computer just fine for the most part, but when I'm gaming, the refresh will cause the game to minimize and return me to the desktop, which is extremely annoying. I haven't tried to turn the internet off yet to see if the problem persists, but I'm sure it wouldn't.

I can no longer view my desktop and the icons on my toolbar are missing (Edge, Chrome, Word, etc.). When I reboot my computer, I can see my desktop wallpaper in the background, but there are no icons/files on it, and the windows apps are up front and center, which I cannot move or minimize (Screenshot below). Even when I have windows/applications open, the icons do not appear in the toolbar. How restore my desktop and icons to the way they used to be?
View 3 RepliesI updated a few machines from 10240 to 10586 (upgrade).
I usually like to have my desktop icons on the toolbar instead of the screen (like to see full theme).
Now the funny thing is that if I decide to show desktop on toolbar sometimes removable drives and even all hard drives will show on desktop toolbar but not on screen.
Here is a pic showing that removable drive is not on desktop.
Now look. If I set desktop to toolbar. Removable drive is there. (Orange circle around it) Some users see all their drives (Fixed and removable) on desktop toolbar but not on screen.
In Windows 7 under Folder and Search options I could uncheck to include subfolders in a search. Is it possible to make this the default search in Windows 10? I only see the option to choose Current Folder in the Search Tools but that would have to be clicked for each new search.
View 2 RepliesI didn't like the Firefox Search Bar. I rarely used it. It takes up valuable real estate that can be used by other ADD-ONS Icons.
I Just do my searches directly in Bing or Google.
To remove the Firefox Search Bar (this actually just moves it and stores it away, you can bring it back),
-Click on the upper right menu icon (three lines).
-Click CUSTOMIZE
-Left Click, Hold and Drag the Firefox Search Bar down to the Additional Tools and Features area. It will be saved there in case you want to bring it back.
-Click EXIT CUSTOMIZE.
The Firefox Search Bar is now gone and the space can be used to add additional ADD-ONS Icons.
When my son tries to watch YouTube movies, it says "The Video is unavailable with Restricted Mode enabled. To view this video, you will need to disable Restricted Mode."
The only way I have found to disable restricted mode is to turn off safe search. I'd rather leave that on.
Any other way to disable restricted mode?
Recently I have seen that my laptop desktop seems to have a "frame" on it. I have marked the frame on the attached screenshot. I can't seem to get rid of it.
(1) how it happened, and (2) how to get rid of it permanently? It has no effect (except for my frustration) on the workings of my laptop. The "frame" cannot be re-sized, nor moved.
Is it possible to remove the "Name Group" from the Desktop?

After upgrade of Win7 to Win10 I got an Onedrive icon on my desktop. It can't be deleted.
Is there a way to disable this icon in the registry? What is the guid?
I was wondering/can't figure out if I can hide the desktop library and other things from the file explorer.
View 3 RepliesI upgraded to Win 10 from Win 7 yesterday. I now have a translucent rectangle on the upper left corner of my screen. It's a lighter shade than the background color of the desktop. Can't move or remove it & don't know what caused it but it is distracting as it also appears on screen when running an app. How did you fix?
View 1 RepliesI guess I should have come here first but I searched the internet on how to fix this aggravation. It seems the accepted way is to go into the Control Panel, System, Advanced System Settings and uncheck the box for Use drop shadows for Icon labels on the Desktop. Been there, did that, rebooted, and absolutely nothing changed.
I went back to the same place and turned off the other two references to shadows, rebooted, and again, no effect anywhere that I could see.
Why making a double image of text would seem like a good idea. All it does for me is make it damn near impossible to read.
How remove shortcut arrows from desktop icons in Win10 ?
View 7 Repliesdo not refer me to System/Advanced/Visual settings. I've removed every check mark in there referring to shadows and ABSOLUTELY NOTHING has changed. These shadows are making me go blind. I absolutely cannot read them.
View 9 RepliesI have remove the shortcut arrow from the desktop icons, but still appear a shild blue and yellow (I think because of UAC).
View 1 RepliesHow do I change the color of the taskbar, and how do I remove the arrows from the desktop icons.
View 2 RepliesI was messing around with folders and stuff in Windows 10, now this Microsoft Office Outlook icon is stuck on my desktop all of a sudden and there is no way to get rid of it.
-Doesn't provide a delete option
-Selecting it and pressing the delete key nor shift+delete works
-Doesn't show up in explorer when you navigate to Desktop folder
-Doesn't appear in search results
-Even trying to open it does nothing
-Is visible when using the Unlocker program, but still no option to delete. Clicking 'OK' just closes Unlocker.
Wasn't really installing anything when I noticed it, and malwarebytes found nothing, so I'm pretty sure it's not a virus or anything.
-Someone told me to "hold shift, right click empty area on desktop, click open command window here in the right click menu, type dir & hit enter, type del "name"" but it didn't show up there either.
-I was asked if I ever had Office 2007 or how old my machine is, but the answer is no and I built this desktop in 2011, just last week did a fresh install of Windows 10 Home. Also, this just appeared today; never before.
-Was told its a registry entry, not a file, and to to look for it in regedit [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorer but it's not there
-Told to delete {00020D75-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerDesktopNameSpace but it is also not there.
The only thing is that when I search for "Microsoft Office Outlook" in regedit, I get this file:
Deleted it and nothing happens. Reappears when you restart the computer.
I tried booting into safe mode as well as removing the latest windows update that occurred on the same day.
Perhaps it goes without saying that I use Windows 10, I would love to add the "Search Everywhere" command to the desktop context menu. Is it possible?
View 9 RepliesOn my desktop computer I have a folder and some files which have a common part of a name on both such as the name of the folder could be Folder and the files could be called Folder/file1, Folder/file2 etc. Doing a search in documents or even drilling down closer(these folders and files are about 5 levels down, if I used the name Folder, I don't find the folder or the files which had Folder as part of their name.
I cleared the search file and rebuilt the index and it still couldn't find the files.
I have a laptop which contains the same files as my desktop. I opened explorer and keyed in "Folder" and they popped right up. The only difference in the machines is that the desktop has an upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7 and the laptop is a Windows 10 from scratch. I have checked the search ribbon on explorer and all options and other items are identical between the two machines.
When I rebuilt the search file, I even added the drive that actually contained the Documents folder which the system is smart enough to know that the drive contained the documents folder so it removed the documents folder from the list when it added the drive. No change.
Interesting thing happened though. With all my frustrations, I restored to a C drive image from a week before to see what would happen. and immediately after the restore completed, I tried the search and it worked. So then I tried it again and it didn't work. Even drilling down the folder tree to the specific folder which contained the files so I'm looking at them while I'm keying in the search argument and it still can't find them.
I recently performed a clean upgrade from a clean 8.1 Install of Windows Pro. It's connected to a domain and uses Folder Redirection. The search function finds NO programs or start menu shortcuts, desktop etc. When I click the start and start typing, a few things are found, and at the top of the window it says "these results may be incomplete".
I have rebuilt the search, stopped the services, renamed the data folder, and tried a new user profile, and it does the same thing.
Some desktop apps are missing from the "All apps" section of the Start menu. Most programs are there, but I'd say 10-15% are missing. Apps that are missing also do not show up when searching the Start menu, and they cannot be pinned to the Start screen as tiles from File Explorer. (The option to "Pin to Start" is there, but selecting it doesn't do anything.)
I have a screenshot here of Outlook 2013 missing from the Start menu even though it is present in the "Start Menu" programs shortcut folder. This is one of many examples.
I've tried resetting the Windows Search index a few times and that hasn't done any good.
Additionally, I've tried adding my own shortcuts and folders to the "Start Menu" programs folder and the changes do not reflect on the Start menu "All apps" section. It's as if it has cached the structure somewhere and it is not updating for changes (or it is ignoring some changes). I tried to figure out some way to kick it into resetting but I have not been successful.
