View 5 RepliesI have updated to Windows 10 and all went well. Looks great.
However, since yesterday, I have not been able to type in the search bar. One clicks the mag glass or search box but nothing happens.
I tried, such as:
SFC/scannow
Windows powershell key "Get -AppXPacjkage -Allusers......."
DSIM /Online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth......"
Checked for any more Windows updates
None of this worked.
I then created a new user to find that it works with a new profile. It seems we are at the mercy of a user profile that could become corrupt at any moment and the only solution is to create another user.
I don't know how it got to be this way but it won't let me type anymore. Mousepad and everything else works. Whenever I try to type there is a fault block sound.
View 4 RepliesI recently upgraded to windows 10 and had to also update driver for hp printer. Two days after the hourglass stats blinking and I can't type more than 3 letters before it disappears. How can I fix this?
View 1 RepliesI recently switched over to Windows 10. Prior to downloading Windows 10, to access my emails I typically entered the word " ixquick" in my search engine and then type "century link home" in the ixquick search box. I click on Century LInk Home which takes me to the Century Link web site. I then click on the "Mail" tab to read, respond to, or create new emails. I have been going through all these steps and through ixquick for additional security.
Now, however, when I do this same process after switching over to Windows 10 I have discovered that I am unable to type any text in new emails, or type any text when responding to emails. I can type text in the Topic Title box with no problem but the system will not allow me type anything in the message box section of the email.
Is it possible that I just have something turned off, or a button that needs to be pushed?
I would like to know (if possible) how to make it so instead of showing all the users and finding your account and typing in your password, you can just type in the username and password, instead of showing users?
View 1 RepliesBrought a new Lenova laptop for Christmas and I am finding things are quite different from my previous Win 7 software. I have been able to find my way around so far, but cannot figure this one out. I can open documents as usual, change name of new folder, but cannot type in the body of the document area. I have tried several times with no luck.
View 9 RepliesI am currently having an issue with icons not displaying on Windows 10, I also cannot change the folder layout as it is grayed out as you will see in the snip it below.
For some reason Adobe PDF icons still display but all the others are just folder icons or the generic gray page icon.
In Windows 7, and before, in Explorer, I could start to type a name of a file that I wanted and Explorer would jump down to that file, but under Windows 10, it automatically starts doing a search of the folder. As such, I am forced to scroll down and find the file manually. There has to be a way to disable the automatic search feature and let it run like before.
View 9 RepliesIt's PDF-A, I think.
View 9 RepliesHow do I change the font type in Windows 10? It will only let me change the size. Used to be in the Personalization settings with the themes, but I can't find anywhere to change the type of font now.
View 14 RepliesI was looking through a file within the file called" Windows8 OS".
The file was called "Microsoft.SqlServer.Compact.400.32" and it was a "LFL" file type. In trying to open it I inadvertently changed it to a "BC" file type.
Question, how do I change it back to it's original file type?
Second question, since it was in a windows 8 OS file does it matter or is it still relevant in my Windows 10 OS ?
I just installed the free upgrade (Windows 8.1 to Windows 10) on my laptop and can not enter the password.
My existing 8.1 account's password had an (german umlaut) character and now after Windows 10 (language english US) is installed I see no chance to type in my password. I'm stuck at the login screen...
I already tried the virtual keyboard and [Alt][0][2][4][6], but it doesn't work. What the heck!! How can I login?
I use Calibre to manage my .epub files, and these files are located in folders within folders within folders. My questions is whether I can use Windows Explorer to see all of the .epub files located located in my Calibre Library (which is the folder which contains all of the other folders/files) without having to go into each individual folder and copy the individual files out.
View 1 RepliesI am unable to type into Excel or any Windows Explorer field (eg, search bar) sometimes. I haven't been able to reproduce this error consistently, but the past few times that it did occur was when I opened an encrypted spreadsheet. The odd thing is that the Windows key still works (will open start menu) and I can type into Chrome, but nothing works in Excel or Windows Explorer. The only thing I can do is restart as unplugging the keyboard does not work.
More background: I had a previous Windows 10 installation and I don't think this error has ever occurred prior to the recent clean install of Windows 10 that I did.
Windows 10 Pro, 64bit.
I have a surface 3 and the type cover is working fine, EXCEPT that I can't click the touchpad anymore.
Well, i can click it, but it does nothing... so I can't select anything. Tapping works, and two finger tap works but the actual click doesnt...
Have i accidentally changed some setting in Windows somewhere or is it broken?
I have downloaded windows 10 and since then have been unable to amend or type in existing PDF files.
View 5 RepliesI swear the more I use Windows 10, the more I hate it. It is beyond a doubt the least friendly of all their OS'swhere do you go to change the desktop icon text size and font? or is it another Regedit thing?
View 1 RepliesI've just installed Windows 10 and everything is going well so far. Is it possible to change the desktop icon font type at all? I've seen there is a program called Iconoid to change the colour of the text itself but not the font.
View 1 RepliesI would like to edit the file type descriptions of a number of file types on my computer. I mean the text that is written in the "File Type" column. For example, after installing Opera browser, all HTML and HTM files have the "File Type" of "Opera Web Document", but I would like to change the File Type for HTML files to "HTML file" and for HTM files to "HTM file".
In Windows 7 I used a utility called Default Programs Editor, but that utility doesn't quite work on Windows 10 anymore. I have some file types here that do not show up in the list of registered file types, which I want to change. For example, I have WSXZ files which are opened by a program called SDL, and the "File Type" according to Windows 10 is "SDL WSXZ Document", but I would like to change that to "WSXZ Forward Package File".
How can I do this? Is there an easy way to do it?
my mouse and keyboard completely stop responding after I run a youtube/vk/vimeo video or any website with flash or streaming audio. When the tab with youtube or similar site gets closed, the keyboard resumes typing and cursor moves as usual.
View 2 RepliesOkay so I had this problem in windows 8.1 but fixed it by turning off smart sense which still has the same function in windows 10 but it did not work. I am looking so find solutions online because this problem is really annoying when it comes to games.
View 9 RepliesI've just upgraded my laptop to Win10 (did my desktop several months ago). The laptop is unable to take input to the Search the web and Windows task bar. I've searched the web, but all I've found was references to killing and restarting Search from the task manager, but there is no Search running. Also any time I try to start Cortana, I can see it start in Task Manager, but it then disappears. So the short of it is can't start Cortana and there is no Search running to restart. How do I get this feature to work?
View 9 Repliesi'm using windows 10 insider now in build 10547, recently some file with specified extension showing the wrong icon, all the wrong icon is same as in the screenshoot:
All error files have icon same like this picture, but all file is can opened with right program, the document is one of from some error file type, last time i have error with archive file and video (all extension eg: mkv, mp4, etc) but fixed when i'm install the media player, and archive file fixed when i'm reinstalling new theme in winrar application. This error can't fixed by change open with, example for my picture file, if i'm using windows photo viewer icon is error, showing icon like the above picture, then when i change open with using photos file icon is right showing the photos application like icon, if i change to windows photo viewer again then the icon wrong again. Rebuilding icon cache not fixing the problem, so what i can do? see icon like that even though the program is run correctly.
I accidentally set the .html file type association to be Microsoft Edge, instead I wanted to set it to a text editor. I am at the system settings, choose default apps by file type and I only have four options, three browsers and "choose from the windows store". Is there another way to unset this?
I tried to override this by providing file type association settings to filezilla to read .html by the text editor, but when I try to edit files, nothing happens. I'm not sure why.
I'm unable to type all special characters that require the Alt key to be pressed. €, ², ³, μ, and most importantly, @, are no longer possible with a German keyboard layout. I tried German German and Austrian German, and both failed to produce those signs. Normally, the @ sign is produced by pressing Alt+q, but since upgrading to Windows 10, nothing happens when I press Alt+q (or any other combination of Alt+letter).
Only German keyboard layouts seem to be affected, as I'm able to use Alt+letter combinations in other languages; just not in German.
