View 1 RepliesI've disabled automatic updates (drivers, Win updates) by making changes to Win 10. Now every entry in Update History is listed as a failed update. Of course, no update has failed; I don't want to install them yet. Is there a way to delete failed update entries?

My windows is not booting the m.2 ssd. I bought a new laptop with a hdd. Bought m.2 850 evo ssd and installed it.Installed windows 10 on it without removing the hdd. It was loading fine but i noticed that the boot loads the previous hdd before continuing to the ssd. Tried deleting the hdd from msconfig boot and that didnt work.
Still in the bios i only saw "windows boot manager HDD" under the uefi bbs boot priorities. But it recognized the ssd in storage information. All that and i even tried cleaning with diskpart the hdd ( the big mistake ).So i now got no boot manager now. And ssd is not loading. Is there a way to fix it without reinstalling windows ?
I set up Ubuntu in dual boot with Win 10 and tried to replace it with Mint, which failed at installation. I then had a "grub rescue" prompt regardless of what I tried. I fixed the mbr by booting from Win 7 .iso and running Bootrec /fixmbr.
I can now boot into Win 10 OK. However, when I first installed Win 10 and dual boot Ubuntu, the Windows 10 selection screen used an icon for Win10 and for Ubuntu. Now the Win10 selection screen is all text, like the original Win 7 screen before Win 10 upgrade. Possibly because I used a Win 7 .iso. I can't find how to get to a dos prompt when booting from Win 10 .iso. It is only cosmetic, but how to restore the Win 10 icon type.
How can I stop CCleaner from skipping cleaning files in Edge? Is there a setting in Edge that's stopping CCleaner from cleaning the files?
View 7 RepliesInstalling Java on my (fairly) new Windows 10 64-bit machine. On my previous version of Windows (Windows 7 64-bit), I had Java (32 bit and 64 bit) installed, and it worked perfectly. However, I can not get it to install on my current machine, no matter what I do?
I downloaded the offline installer for Java 32 bit, and 64 bit, from the manual download page: Java Downloads for All Operating Systems. Upon trying to run the 32 bit installer (which you are supposed to install first), nothing appeared to happen. So I left it for about 20 minutes, and found it still wasn't doing anything when I came back. So I brought up my task manager to check if anything was running in the background, and found "Java Platform SE Binary (32 bit)" running there. As it appeared to be doing nothing, I ended it, and tried running it again, only for the same thing (nothing) to happen.
I then tried the 64 bit installer, thinking maybe something had changed, and Windows 10 just didn't need the 32 bit version (upon later research finding that this is an incorrect assumption on my part). Same story with the 64 bit installer as well.
Frustrated, I tried to search my computer, to see if it had added anything. There were no new program entries, and no Java section in my Control Panel, but there was a new folder in my Appdata, LocalLow, called "Oracle," containing a Java folder, with a "jre1.8.0_65.msi" file.
I tried to run the MSI file, but got the following message: "There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
I tried their official support on this matter: Error 1721: There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. But none of the listed steps, even all used in conjunction, did anything.
I also tried their online installer, rather than the offline one (even though I need to use the offline ones in the end, because I need 64 bit), and it had the same issues.
In short, I run the installer, and nothing happens, no window, no errors, it just runs in the background indefinitely. I have tried installing in safe-mode, verifying/repairing my system files, running the installer in all available compatibility modes and as administrator, turning off my firewall and anti-virus softwares, and nothing has worked thus far.
I was trying to open a jar file, so I opened with any other program like adobe reader, didn't work.
I realized I needed to install Java, and did, but now it wont choose java as one of the apps to use to open it.
I've tried a lot of things before asking this, including downloading Java, setting it's destination to the desktop, and tried using the executable files in that to run the .jar, so now I can't tell if any of those files are the correct Java.
I have java installed on my machine, but can't see it in my browsers, FX or Chrome ( I know it won't work in Edge).
I have checked the box 'Enable Java controller in the browser' under the security tab in Java Control Panel.
I am trying to run a program with Java software in Windows 10, yet it is not letting me. I have been reading that it has been an issue after the update.
View 1 RepliesI noticed recently on Teamspeak that I've got some packet loss, up to 10% at a time. This has shown itself in games as well, most notably League of Legends where my ping will be stable, yet I lose control of my character for up to five seconds at a time. I tried doing a test on pingtest.net but it says that Java doesn't seem to be installed on my browser, why? I've un-installed and re-installed Java but it still says this message: "Pingtest.net requires Java for packet loss testing, but it does not appear to be installed in your browser. Click here for assistance."

View 1 RepliesI seem to have two instances of Java installed on my Win10 Pro 64-bit Laptop .. see screenshot below. Can I safely uninstall one of them?
If "yes" then which one? I have no clue how I ended up with 2 x Java installs on my laptop. I'm assuming I should keep the 64-bit install, and delete the other? I use Chrome as my usual browser, but very occasionally use Edge
When installing a software, I keep getting an error like the attached pictured
My PC is Win 10 64
The Program to run is in 32 bit
Java 32 is installed
Java was tested using Explorer browser
I've been having this issue with Java Update Scheduler running on his own and ramming my CPU usage to 80%, 10 to 15 minutes every time after I boot the PC, and every time I need to manually close it. I've searched it up online and people recommended setting s manual task scheduler for it, I did, it didn't work .
Some people recommended disabling "check for updates" in the Java configure window but I didn't even have Java installed, where this came from and how that process starts and why. So I installed Java, disabled updates and I still get this issue every time I boot the PC, I officially give up since I don't know what to do anymore.
I have reinstalled java and have java 8 u 60 64bit. i have set factory default on my router. i have restarted the computer and minecraft.
Oother places say minecraft can't communicate with itself, although java is allowed in firewall both private and public..

Every time I open a java program (netbeans, mc) it crashes after about 3sec. The aplications works when I run java 32-bit but I can't run anything with more then 1,5Gb of ram and if I change to 64 (deleting 32-bit and installing 64-bit)the aplications just crashes after 3sec. I've tried running both java 7 and 8 but it still crashes. I believe it's a problem with windows 10 but I'm not sure...

I reinstalled Windows to try to fix an issue, but it did not work. I am installing my programs to an alternate drive, and would like to install Java there as well. I know about the JRE_HOME environment variable, but it can only point to 32 OR 64-bit Java. Is there any way to have both running simultaneously without need to switch the variable to the 64-bit path? I think that this does happen when I install to the default location, so how can I do that?
View 3 RepliesI have a configuration where win 10 is installed on SSD but the Users folder is on a dynamic disk on HDD and the linking is made by a hard junction link from C: to D. I have removed paging on D as well as protection. Hence, I am able to remove all volumes of the dynamic disk and convert it back to a basic disk and format it.The problem is that I would like to keep all my installed programs (and settings, preferably). I have copied the Users directory to an external disk and copied them back to D after conversion. This seems to lead to a nonfunctional situation where I cannot even add a new user and most programs (even not all windows tools) do not work. What would be the best approach to avoid reinstalling the programs and to keep existing users?

View 5 RepliesSo, after about 2 weeks of experiencing Windows 10 I've decided to revert back to Windows 8.1, since I was more experienced at it. So I followed every step to downgrade the system, waited for about a few hours, then I noticed that when Windows restarted, it somehow went to an "automatic repair" loop. I've tried literally everything there was so I can get it running again, but nothing seems to work. But, there was only one option, in which I feel like an idiot to try out.
I went to Command Prompt and typed in diskpart.exe, then enter. I then typed in LIST DISK, then SELECT DISK SYSTEM, and finally CLEAN. Since I thought at the time that CLEAN works like resetting the PC, I rebooted it again, and I came to an error message saying: No boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed. Is, or will there be any other way to start my PC in a condition like this? If I'm missing any other details then feel free to ask.
Every time I boot up my pc I get a black screen with 2 lines of text "disk i/o error, replace the disk and then press any key". After I press any key pc boots up fine. Lenovo pc with Windows 10.
