View 2 Replieshow to eliminate the lock screen preview and bypass the 'Sign In' button on the lock screen?I often put my computer to sleep then to bring it back (in Windows 7) I would simply hit the space bar and turn on my mouse and it would go straight to my desktop. Now, I hit the space bar turn on my mouse, and it takes me to the lock screen preview then I hit the space bar and it takes me to a lock screen where I have to click 'Sign In' even though I have no password set.
I'm guessing I'll no longer be able to hit the spacebar, turn on my mouse and go directly to the desktop but if I can hit the spacebar, turn on the mouse, then hit the space bar one last time, that would be satisfactory.
Can I use switch user option on power option list or on start menu list ?

View -1 RepliesSince a little over a week or so I have been experiencing frequent BSOD when playing games (these include Witcher 3, WoW, CSGO....). The main ones that show up are:
-Memory managment
-PFN_List_Corrupt
-System_Service_exception
Sometimes it only crashes to my desktop but overall they are very frequent and quite annoying. It occurs both when I have several programs running at once but also when only a single program is up. The computer is new, have only had it for around 2 months.
My drivers are all up to date, I have run virus and malware scans which have not come up with anything. The errors to me seem to point to a RAM issue (although I quite honestly know nothing about these things) so I ran the windows memory diagnostic which did not come up with any errors.
My Rig is:
Windows 10 x64
AMD FX(tm)- 8350 eight core processor
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 970
Crucial 8 GB Sport Ballistix 240 Pin DIMM DDR3 PC3-12800 Memory Module

During gaming, I get constant BSOD's with similar error messages. It usually occurs within 5-20 minutes. The computer then reboots and another BSOD always occurs again after i login to my computer. Subsequently another BSOD usually occurs straight after this and completely turns my computer off. These BSOD'S include page non fault, iqrl, memory management, system thread exception (all of the top of my head). I can't recall it happening whilst not gaming and thus I assumed the problem would tend to the GPU which is fully updated. I also ran memtest with a return of no errors and also took each RAM out at a time but still got the error so RAM shouldn't be the problem. I've updated every driver in device manager.

Running a one-month old clean Win 10 install.
I find that my desktop icons frequently lose their shortcut symbol (the little white square with curved blue arrow), or otherwise change. I haven't tried to figure out when or why this happens. It shouldn't. An icon, once placed, shouldn't change.
The fix is to right-click on an open spot and select "refresh".
Basically every time I turn on my laptop (1year old) , after a while (1 hour or even 5 minutes), connection turns limited on every other device in my house! The only thing I can do is to turn off and on my modem.
It ONLY happen with my notebook. I have tried to update/reinstall the Wi-Fi drivers, I formatted a couple of times, I even asked HP to look at it and they replaced my wireless card.. Nothing seems to work. I even purchased an external Wi-Fi adapter, and even with that, after 3-4 hours I had limited connectivity!
Computer's model is HP 15 r117nl, windows 10
I have had no problems what so ever with this computer running Win 7 Pro for a very long time (2+ years) and when I moved to Win 10 Pro I get these BSOD Critical_Process_Died crashes while browsing the internet using Fire Fox. After the BSOD it will reboot and I can use again but then after a while (maybe an hour) it crashes again. I have recently updated to Win 10 and all drivers were at that time updated. I have to admit I wish there was a better way to determine when a new driver is available for your hardware.

View 6 RepliesI've learned to like the "Quick Access" feature of Win 10. Recently it has shown a strange trait. That is, instead of listing my "frequent folders" in a list in a pane at the top of the window and "recent files" in a pane at the bottom at the bottom of the window (in a separate pane), both "frequent folders" and "recent files" show up on the same detail list (in a single pane).
Likewise, the entries are all sorted by name instead of (recent) date, as I would like.
See image:
Here is a sample (imaged grabbed from Internet) of how it should look. ("Recent folders" in a separate pane at the top and "recent files" at the bottom. This is how I want my Quick Access window to look again.
How can I get Quick access to once again separate the "recent folders" from the "recent files"... and make them sort by "most recent date first"?
By the way, I tried "restore defaults" but that was to no avail.
I would like to eliminate the sound when I adjust the volume on the sound icon in the lower right hand area of the task bar . Wat steps I can take to be able to still adjust the volume, but not hear the loud sound it makes when adjusting?
View 3 RepliesWhen I add a item to the start list it only appears in the panel list and not in the column list where I want it.
View 9 RepliesHow do I set the view to be always in list mode ?
It defaults to details mode and I'd like list mode.
I'm not sure when this started happening. Might have been after a Windows update and the system reboot. I've been living with it for a couple weeks now.
When I click All apps in the start menu, the list is empty. The apps in the most used list are still populated and when I install a new app, it shows up as a new app. But when I click All apps, it never shows anything. Just an empty menu with a back button.
The apps in the tile portion of the start menu show up fine and I'm able to search for apps to launch them, but I'd like to be able to easily go through all the apps I have installed.
if i click file explorer right under frequent folders there is a recent files list this is a privacy issue is there a way that it wont show a list of recent files.
View 4 RepliesOK. I know how to "go to file location" and some of the other basic tips, but I am still having two issues with the Windows 10 start menu after several hours of searching reading and pulling hair out.
1) A few of my apps (programs I installed, not apps from the store) were originally in folders with no other shortcuts in them, so I decided to remove those folders and put the shortcut at the top level. This leaves me with a Mozilla Firefox shortcut which I want to rename to just "Firefox". I can rename it, but no matter what, it just stats under M in the all apps list. I also have 2 other apps with this problem, but I listed Firefox as an example.
2) When I open the start menu (before entering All Apps), I wonder if there is a way to replace "File Explorer" with "My PC" or some other label. I have already changed the behavior of this button to open the "My Computer" screen I am used to. I just want to change the label if possible.
I am unable to access the charms list that was on the right side of the screen it just disappeared it does not work by pointing the mouse cursor at the top right hand corner and I have tried Windows + C but all that does is bring up Cortana. Also I can't find the recycle bin there is not tile for it and it is not on the task bar or Desktop either.

View 2 RepliesI updated my Surface Pro from W8.1 to W10. In W10, I can't figure out how to add articles from MSN News and Finance applications to the Reading List, like I used to in W8.1. How can I add news articles to the Reading List?
)The Microsoft Windows Reading List FAQ has no entries whatsoever.)
I have a laptop and a PC both with Win10.
On my laptop, when I receive notifications, I can later on see them in the list.
On my PC, they seem to be cleared. I can never see them.
I am an experienced Windows user and do not understand why I can't figure out how to make them they where they belong.
