Everything Goes Black But Mouse Shows Up On Black Screen
Aug 27, 2015
I upgraded from windows ultimate to windows 10. my computer boots through everything and finally brings up my old windows 7 desktop screen and then everything goes black, but mouse shows up on black screen. Is this a driver problem with windows 10? However, before the black screen appears the new start button and screen appears as the windows 10
so I recently did a clean install of Windows 10 on my laptop which I bought in 2011 with Windows 7 originally on it. The install worked perfectly fine and the OS works great except for one thing. When I select the restart option, the computer restarts and shows the Windows boot logo but then after that I just get a black screen. At that point, if I press the power button to put the computer in sleep mode and then press it again to take it out of sleep mode, the login screen appears. When I choose to shutdown and do a cold boot, everything's boots up fine. I do not have the computer connected to another video output source when restarting so it should know to project onto my laptop screen. All of my drivers (including graphics) are up to date as well as all Windows updates.
I am trying to figure out what is going on with my mom's laptop. Two days ago she told me she was using her laptop and everything was fine, but then she left to do some things in the kitchen and came back a bit later to the screen off. Upon waking it up by moving the mouse, all she got was a black screen with a white cursor. I have looked at it and upon manually restarting, it shows the Windows 10 logo, and then it goes to the black screen with the cursor. There is no login screen either but I do also hear the welcome music. One thing I noticed though is the cursor does have the blue loading circle next to it like it is actually still doing something, and it flashes and spins now and then, as well as the computer sounding like its working, but I have left this on for almost 40 minutes now and it is still just a black screen. It sometimes goes to the off screen and have to move the mouse to wake it up again. Some people online suggest task manager and opening up other windows but nothing works, I can just move a cursor.
I just upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and now my computer only detects one display rather than two. I have a Dell desktop computer and two Dell monitors. Using Windows 7 both monitors were being detected/used. How to correct. The second display shows a black screen with the message "Cannot Display This Video Mode".
While using PowerPlanner7, I believe I may have accidentally turned off display or brightness to 0. I am unsure if I successfully made it back to the desktop after rebooting(my attempt to solve the problem). I have tried searching the Internet for shortcuts that re-enable screen or turn brightness up(my keyboard brightness buttons do not work since I am on Mac and the functions keys are all remapped- holding fn then function is same as just pressing function now too)
I upgraded a desktop computer from Windows 7 ultimate to Windows 10 and there seems to be an annoying black screen issue which happens before the login screen.
After the Windows loading logo, the screen stays black for about 60-80 seconds (and all I can see is the mouse cursor). After 60-80 seconds, the login screen pops up and everything works fine and I can login.
I already tried the following:
- Updated NVIDIA drivers - Completely removed NVIDIA drivers to see if it was a drivers problem - Booted into safe mode, still happens - Checked event viewer, nothing weird in the logs - Made the PCIE slot the default slot for the primary monitor in the BIOS - Ran the sfc /scannow command, no violations found - Ran all Windows updates - Took a look at the services and startup processes, nothing weird here - Turned fast boot off/on, no change - Full Malwarebytes scan, no infections found
I ran a xbootmgr trace log, here's the summary XML file: processSummary numProces - Pastebin.com
I'd like to keep the fresh installation option as a last resort.
Afther installing the intel chipset driver the pc crashed showed a blue screen with large tex saying that the pc run into a problem and is collecting data. Then it turned off and started booting went past the windows booting logo and than showed a black screen with a mouse pointer that constantly changes between loading and busy... you can move the mouse pointer on the black screen and nothing else... I can't boot the laptop and I don't know what to do
i upgraded my windows from 8.1 to 10.evrything seems fine but when i launch my games it won't run.i run dxdiag then i noticed that my intel vga and nvidia 840M's driver were uninstalled. I open the ASUS installer and installed my display driver.when i reboot, the screen goes black with the mouse cursor in it after ASUS logo.3 leds were lit.the hdd led is blinking. i reboot several times and hit F8, unfortunately nothing happened.
So I recently gave my laptop an update today. It was fine before but...now it boots to a black screen with just a mouse pointer visible. What should i do?
Installed Windows 10 on HP Pavillion p7-1262 about 2 weeks ago. Worked fine up until last Friday, screen went black, no keyboard entry, no mouse cursor. Can't enter BIOS. Whats wrong?
Running Win 10 on a HP Envy and upon startup everything normal, then icons appear on desktop, then a 5 inch black square in upper right of screen and this hangs for about thirty seconds then disappears and everything is fine. This does not occur on restart. At the top of black box is the following C:programdata242466sysmon.exe. How do I get rid of this delay...
I did a bit of research and this seems to have been an issue for a while, or has been in the past. Was upgrading to windows 10, I first had to restart my pc cause it was initially stuck on that preparing to install problem with the green bar being stuck around 25%.
It then got through that and began the installation process with the big circle and rebooting process. However around 91% when I last looked at it it was just black screen, this stayed this way for about 3-4 hours. I then decided to reboot the pc and it has now booted to the login screen. Is this a known bug or could there be a possible issue?
The problem seems a bit different as some people I saw have had to fall back on PC restore points etc. So not sure if it installed or what could be the problem.
Also side note, I upgraded my pc when windows 10 first publically released, but rolled back because I had about 5min shutdown times.
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge with an Intel I5 processor, 64 bit with no hardware upgrades (stock). I had accidentally stepped on the screen (fell off my lap and then crunch) which was mangled beyond repair, so I have been using it similar to a tower, with a VGA and/or HDMI connected monitor (my HDMI cable went bad, I picked up a new cable but hadn't hooked it up to the second monitor. I started my free upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium to 10 last night. I woke up to the black screen/mouse pointer issue which is what brought me to this thread. I tried the recommended fix:
1. Hit ctrl, type in password and enter 2. Win Key + P + Down Arrow. (Win Key + P only seems to do the same thing)
This brought up options to
1. Disconnect projector (Tried this and lost connection to the VGA even after reboot) 2. Duplicate (Screen is still black with mouse cursor, but I saw a little bit of red and blue pixels at the bottom where the task bar should be until I disconnected and re-connected the VGA, then it was back to black screen and cursor) 3. Extend (still black screen and cursor) 4. Connect Projector (still black screen and cursor)
I'm not sure what to do. I must have some OS installed, because I am able to also perform these operations from my USB Keyboard/Mouse. I'm just not sure how to get Windows back on my VGA connection (I haven't tried HDMI because I did not have it connected when I ran the update.) I thought Duplicate displays would do the trick, but apparently not. For as beat up as the laptop is on the outside, the hardware performs fine. I also have a 2nd laptop (work laptop, also a Lenovo W541) that I can use if any solution involves downloading something bootable.
When I boot up my computer (to windows 10). It will do the Asus splash screen then instead of going straight to windows if does this black screen with the kinda terminal thing (with no writing/text) then goes on to windows. Does this affect my computer?
win10 after showing logo black screen take 2 to 3 mintus to show welcome screen. amd radeon dual graphic card 7400+6310 driver amd site shows it a latest updated driver ...
I don't know what to do. I've tried everything. I am literally about to break down crying. I've been at this for six and a half hours now. I've completely run out of space on my 320GB hard drive, and I've been trying to clone to my new 1TB since I got home from work.
I've currently got windows 10 on a small HDD that I need to transfer to my newer, bigger drive. I do have multiple hard drive slots, as I need the OS on the big one. Don't ask why, it's complicated. Point is, I can't use the little one anymore and I need the OS as well as my files on the big guy.
I've tried 2 different cloning programs, each one taking ages to finish copying. The problem is, everywhere I go says the reason I have blackscreen when I try to boot is because I'm missing the 100MB hidden boot partition. But it's sitting right there.
I've tried booting with only the new HDD installed, tried 100 boot and BIOS settings, different slots, completely formatting the new HDD and starting over from scratch with the same program and a different one.
I've even tried booting from a recovery disk. That won't work either, and gives me the same black screen with a single horizontal bar blinking in the top left corner.
When I boot my pc sometimes I get a black screen. But by pressing ctr alt & delete I can log out, and then login and its then OK. I have reset my pc but its still the same.
If you have an on board Intel graphics controller as well as an add on graphics card, windows thinks you have one more monitor connected than you actually have. so when windows loads its outputting the video signal to a bogus monitor.firstly wait long enough so the mouse cursor to appear when you move the mouse.(blank screen with a white mouse cursor). Then press the space-bar and enter your login password or pin (yes your doing this blind)
You should now be logged into windows.if the desktop dose not appear after 30 seconds then press WindowsKey-P down arrow twice and enter.
So.. I screwed up.. I used a small program called something like Windows 10 Login Background Changer (something along those lines) and when I restarted my computer, it never reached the login screen. I can move the mouse and open Magnifier (was pushing random controls), but I don't know how to get past here.
I downloaded windows 10 on my laptop today and now I have a black screen. I have shut down my laptop and restarted it and the windows emblem comes up then goes to black screen again.
I have acer aspire 5740 laplop, core i3 ..... A problem occured extending c windows drive as described below. It have 3 local drives
c - 20gbboot primary drive d - 90 gb system , primary drive e - 50 gb logical
Some unallocated space, I was extending c ,by deleting drive d ,at the deleting drive it, gives warning, that if you delete drive d , may your system not get start, i deleted, sudden restarting windows, displaying operating system not found, i tried to install new windows, no booting, after 2 trial, it showing black screen , i have tried some soln as per knowledge ram reset, ms dos boot usb drive. but nothing happened, laptop get normal heat, felt like hardrive boot.
Computer boots to windows log on,have no password here. After a minute on log on it go to a black screen, stays there forever. I can get to Task Manager from black Screen, lost on what to do next. Just want my Windows 10 back, not sure what caused this problem.
During boot up I get a black screen for about 1 min then the login for my account. I notice a lot of hard drive activity during the black screen. I'm using amd-catalyst-15.10beta-64bit-win10-win8.1-win7-oct12.exe (latest one).
Win 10 works fine except for the black screen. I've had this black screen since day one but it seems to be longer. I have tried AMD 15.7.1 driver.
I don't have an on board graphics.
I'm almost thinking of grabbing another hard drive and do a clean install and see if that fixes it.
