Nov 10, 2015In File Explorer I right-click a folder and select Properties. In the Customise tab, under Choose a file to show on this folder icon, I select Choose file. I navigate to my Pictures folder and select an image and then click on Apply and OK. And nothing happens, the folder is unchanged and has no picture on it.

Dec 25, 2015Under the Network tab of File Explorer, I can see three entries, one of which is my router (with attached Hard Drive) and two computers, each running Windows 10. When I expand the router entry, I can see my hard drive files. I can also see my Users icons when I expand one of the computer's tabs. However, when I click on the other computer's name to search for users, all I see is a message that "This folder is empty". In fact, the folder is not empty, as there are two users on the computer. How I can get this computer to show users, etc.?

Oct 19, 2015Using Win10 Pro x64. I would like to disable windows showing .zip files in explorer as a folder...When you highlight it the contents inside the .zip are shown in the right pane view. I've scoured the net and found ways for Win7(which I did disable .zip folders on my other Win7 machine) and Vista, perhaps 8 too but I don't want to risk trying a method for older versions of windows. Any solution/reg hack or whatever to disable .zip folder?

Aug 8, 2015I just installed Windows 10. Not sure if I like it, but I'm trying hard.
Problem: When I go to File Explorer, in the left panel, when I click on a folder name, the contents of that folder (both sub-folders and files) show in the right panel.
In the left panel, when I click on ">" beside a folder name, it will expand in the left panel showing the sub-folders, but not "loose files".
I could have sworn that in earlier versions of Windows the files also showed.
Is there a option setting somewhere to change this behavior and to show the files also in the left panel?
Corrupted Microsoft Edge Image File
Aug 2, 2015Out of habit I ran SFC scan after finishing Win10 upgrade & Windows Updates and found out that MicrosoftEdgeSquare44x44.scale-125_contrast-white.png is corrupted.After a quick google search, seems there a few other Win10 users with the same problem.Neither SFC or DISM seem to be able to fix the problem.I also saw someone mention this is a 'false positive' hash mismatch but at least in my case the image really is corrupted (as in, if I open it in a image editor, it fails with corrupted image error). All other Edge images in the folder open correctly in image viewer.
how to repair systemapp files? I'm assuming DISM/SFC fail because the system apps seem to be different from regular system files (e.g. you cannot find them on the install media from what I can see).

Editing A File Causes Freeze File Explorer
Dec 7, 2015When I edit a .mkv file (rename, delete or copy/move) on one of my partitions, file explorer freezes and I need to restart it with taskmanager.
I haven't encountered any other files that cause the same freeze as this one (yet..).
I already searched on google and tried editing from a webbrowser and the drive is defragmented automatically, so I don't know what to do.

Sep 26, 2015Been trying M. Reflect free edition on a Dell Studio XPS 8000. I did as usual and created a boot rescue CD with the PE file with no problem. Then I continued to make an image of my boot disk C and save it on my hard drive D.
Went to D and the image is there. Next I booted with the restore disk without problems, but after choosing restore, I can't find the image that was created on the D hard drive. I noticed that the naming of the drives also has changed and as such I looked everywhere but I can't find the image and as such I can't restore.

Dec 23, 2015I made a desktop background in 3ds max and its of a robot standing on the moon. The actual image I is about 10k by 6k so I converted it to 1080p because I was having the same problem with the larger image. When I set it as my desktop background it becomes blurry. The stars bleed out whiteness around into the black space. The textures and reflections just look like crap on the desktop image. But on the real image you can zoom in for miles and it is just fine. Why my desktop background looks worse quality than say an image viewer?

Sep 27, 2015I upgraded from W8.1 to W10. After the upgrade my mirrored volume was 'gone' (created with disk management). Fortunately I was able to restore the data on one of the disks.
I cannot manage to recreate a mirror on Windows 10. I tried using disk management as well as Storage Spaces but I get errors when the formatting begins.
Even with new disks, all the same it does not seem to work. I can not figure out why...
I get: Cannot remove Storage Space (huh.. remove?? I am creating one!!).... Parameter is wrong: 0x00000057.
Could there be some history of the previous mirrored drive which is preventing me from creating a new one or should I just do a clean Windows 10 installation?
Automatically Mirror Files From Windows To Network Drive?
Feb 23, 2016How do I automatically mirror files from a hard disk drive to a network folder?
In this case I want to mirror the contents of an entire disk containing photos (no system files) to a shared folder on an OpenMediaVault server running on my home network.
This is separate from the regular backup of the rest of my system which is done with backup software. For the contents of this disk, I don't want them compressed into a backup container file. I want them to be exact duplicates of the original files, kept up to date in that shared network location (login required).
Also, it doesn't matter if they update in real time. Once a day is fine, for example.

Aug 26, 2015In Windows 7 when I open Windows Explorer it comes up with a very simple window that has very basic tabs, Organise, Share With Burn, New Folder. Organise then has a very basic drop down menu.
When I use File Explorer in Windows 10 it comes up with a much more detailed menu that offers four menus, File, Home, Share, View.
Is there any way I can use a window similar to Windows 7? I'm sure it is there somewhere as when you attempt to open a file in an application a window identical to what I want comes up to allow the selection.

Aug 11, 2015After upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, my file explorer simply keeps crashing when navigating in folders.
Example: I go to "This PC" and the window that pops up show all my drives but not how much storage they have/have left. When I try open a drive or folder the window and taskbar closes down and reopen after a few seconds. I haven't had this problem even a single time before I upgraded to Windows 10 but now it happens almost every time I try open a folder.
File Explorer Not In Taskbar?
Feb 2, 2016This is the second time I have posted about the same problem. I can't move file explorer to the task bar. I tried to move it by right clicking on start, then left click on file explorer the menu I get that way just says "pin to start" and more, when I click on more all that is there is don't show with this list, if I left click the start button and then left click file explorer the menu only says "pin to start". I am at a loss, I have had one problem after another with Windows 10 and considering going back to Windows 7. I have tried to revert back to windows 7 from windows 10 but that failed, the only other option I have is to format the hard drive and reload Windows 7. I understand by doing that I will get the Windows 10 10 upgrade icon in the right hand corner of the task bar. How do I get rid of that?

File Explorer Does Not Discover NAS
Oct 24, 2015As the title says I am unable to "see" my NAS in windows explorer. I was able to use explorer to view/add/delete files on my NAS a few weeks ago but now now cannot even see the NAS in the network section. Funny thing is that I am able to ping the server and even login to the GUI via IE and firefox. But i can't get the media files.
I am currently running the evaluation copy of Windows 10: Details:
- Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview
- version 1511
- OS build 10565.41737
- 64Bit
- Intel i&-2600 CPU with 24GB of RAM
I have tried the follow to correct the issue with no success:
- Rebooted windows 10 machine (several times)
- Rebooted Router (Actiontec V2000H)
- Rebooted NAS (FreeNAS 9.3)
- ipconfig /flushdns
- change from using PIN to password
- Change from password to PIN
- using regedit added the AllowInsecureGuestAuth = 1 to the registry.
Notes on NAS: using Freenas 9.3, ZFS volume, enabled CIFS shares. do not require login to access media files (or any files). The server only has media files on it so no password required or enabled.
Notes on Network:
- The network is hardwired with Cat 5e cable (except for wireless printer)
- Windows 10 explorer is able to "see" other windows machines (windows 7 and 8), an Linus Ubuntu 14.04 machine, router (Actiontec V2000H, printer (wireless), AV receiver,
- the windows 7/8 machines are able to access the media files on the NAS with no issues and are able to see the windows 10 machine.
- the ubuntu 14.04 machine is able to access the media files on the NAS with no issues and is able to see the windows 10//8/7 machines on the network.
I like windows 10 but it will be a show stopper if I cannot access my NAS from this Windows 10 machine.
Nothing Opens Except File Explorer?
Feb 10, 2016I've had windows 10 since November and just today it's been playing up. None of the apps open - they display a message "element not found" for explorer exe or for other things like chrome, ms word you click on it and nothing happens. Can't even turn off the computer (start > turn off just does nothing) I've tried pressing the power button on my PC but that just seems to put it into sleep mode and not properly restart it.
