I cannot get to the advanced boot options menu that I could with windows 7 by hitting the f8 key. You know the menu that has safe mode with Command prompt safe mode with network support startup repair and Just regular safe mode. Use some of those features but I can't get to them the f8 does not work anymore.

Recently, I have observed the Search feature of the File Explorer does not work (e.g., No items match your search). The folders I'm searching are indexed. I've tried rebuilding the index. I can even drill down to a folder I know contains the sought file and entering a search word in the file's name and search returns nothing.
For example, D:UsersClayton is indexed with no exclusions (all subdirectories included). I can search from D:UsersClaytonBooks for 'code'. That folder has many subfolders with files containing 'code' in the filename/contents. Yet search returns nothing.
D:UsersClaytonBooks is shared to my HomeGroup. I thought perhaps that might be a factor. However, even if I stop sharing, the results are the same. Most of my existing shared folders exhibit this behavior. However, if I add a folder to my Homegroup, search seems to work.
I just don't get it. I have successfully performed searches like this in Windows 7 all the time. Is Windows 10 just broken?
UPDATE: From my laptop (also Win10), I can search the Books HomeGroup share and find matches. However, going back to the desktop machine where the share resides, the same search fails.
UPDATE 2: On my desktop, if I remove D:UsersClayton from my indexed locations, searches work. This is repeatable. When indexed, search fails. When not indexed, search works.

Using Windows 10 Home.
If I search within a folder for say *.* and then delete a file, the list of files does not refresh.
The file remains listed even though it's been deleted.
If I manually refresh then the file disappears from the list. Same thing happens if I undo the delete.
I need to hit F5 to make the file reappear in the search list.

Before upgrading, I could search for things like Device Manager or Driver Update, and I could locate it, now nothing turns up at all. Nothing for device manager. No results for "driver" I think before it had a result for driver updates by default. There are results for printer, which is nice. I know there should be something similar for Device Manager.

Under the Network tab of File Explorer, I can see three entries, one of which is my router (with attached Hard Drive) and two computers, each running Windows 10. When I expand the router entry, I can see my hard drive files. I can also see my Users icons when I expand one of the computer's tabs. However, when I click on the other computer's name to search for users, all I see is a message that "This folder is empty". In fact, the folder is not empty, as there are two users on the computer. How I can get this computer to show users, etc.?

Using Win10 Pro x64. I would like to disable windows showing .zip files in explorer as a folder...When you highlight it the contents inside the .zip are shown in the right pane view. I've scoured the net and found ways for Win7(which I did disable .zip folders on my other Win7 machine) and Vista, perhaps 8 too but I don't want to risk trying a method for older versions of windows. Any solution/reg hack or whatever to disable .zip folder?

I just installed Windows 10. Not sure if I like it, but I'm trying hard.
Problem: When I go to File Explorer, in the left panel, when I click on a folder name, the contents of that folder (both sub-folders and files) show in the right panel.
In the left panel, when I click on ">" beside a folder name, it will expand in the left panel showing the sub-folders, but not "loose files".
I could have sworn that in earlier versions of Windows the files also showed.
Is there a option setting somewhere to change this behavior and to show the files also in the left panel?

When I edit a .mkv file (rename, delete or copy/move) on one of my partitions, file explorer freezes and I need to restart it with taskmanager.
I haven't encountered any other files that cause the same freeze as this one (yet..).
I already searched on google and tried editing from a webbrowser and the drive is defragmented automatically, so I don't know what to do.

I don't have the vocabulary yet to state exactly what is happening.
I upgraded from Win 7 and Win 8 on several machines....though I was reasonably happy with Win 7 and Win 8.
After a few months, win explorer started to misbehave on my desktop, but the laptops are not going crazy.
In performing editing and relocation of folders, win explorer was slow to update, and deleted folders were still showing. Certain content seems to hang it up, such a video files. Closing and re-starting WE did not fix the issue and sometimes only a reboot would reset things.
The issue seems to be in the search function. If is always indexing and looking for something and the cursor circle is always in action and the hard drive is working like crazy.
More annoying is that a new windows has shown up with tabs across the top for selecting what is to be displayed and how. I cannot simply get back to the good old WE detailed view that I work with. Where did this new window come from?

Have been running Windows 10 on a Packard Bell laptop since August and suddenly the login screen password box is disabled on start up. None of the sign in screen options (power options, language, etc.) are enabled. I can't get to any safe mode boot options either so at the moment I'm stuck.

In Win 7, one clicked on Start and you could then search for any file in your entire computer by entering its name (or part of it's name) in the file search box. In Win 10, you have to ask Cortana who won't locate a file for you. Where has the file search box covering all data files on the computer moved to?

I have a file named IMG_20151218_0001.pdf. How can search it when I only remember it has 1218 as a part of the file name? I tried some of the searches and the result is empty, such as filename:"*1218*", *1218*, and "*1218*".

When I search for *.mp4 in Public Folders > Video, the results don't show the file. The problem is the file is in there. When I search *.* in Public Folders it is not shown either.
When I search the entire C: drive, though, it shows up in the Public Folders > Video directory.

I have a large number of research articles on my laptop (via dropbox). One thing I loved about Windows 7 was that I could just hit the Start button, type a keyword into the search box and a results window would pop up that listed every matching document on my computer. I was also able to customize this so that it always came up in "Details" view.
I can't seem to get that same thing with Windows 10. When I type something into the search field on the task bar, I have to first select that I want it to search my stuff and not the web. After I do that it will only bring up a limited amount of results. I have to click again to see the whole set of hits--and then if I hit "Folder Explorer" at the bottom of the menu, it brings up the results in "Tile" view.
First, I can't figure out how to set the Folder Explorer default view to "Details".
Also, is there a way I search directly into Folder Explorer via the task bar search box?
Next, I don't mind that the taskbar offers me the option of websearch

In Windows 7 when I open Windows Explorer it comes up with a very simple window that has very basic tabs, Organise, Share With Burn, New Folder. Organise then has a very basic drop down menu.
When I use File Explorer in Windows 10 it comes up with a much more detailed menu that offers four menus, File, Home, Share, View.
Is there any way I can use a window similar to Windows 7? I'm sure it is there somewhere as when you attempt to open a file in an application a window identical to what I want comes up to allow the selection.

I have seen this issue before in Windows 7 but this is happening on one of my Windows 10 computers. I want to have my settings set to Adjust for best appearance but when I restart the computer, it'll be set to custom but all of my settings will still have a check mark in the check boxes but not all of them will take affect until I change it back to adjust for best performance which I think is only a couple of options not taking affect.

After upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, my file explorer simply keeps crashing when navigating in folders.
Example: I go to "This PC" and the window that pops up show all my drives but not how much storage they have/have left. When I try open a drive or folder the window and taskbar closes down and reopen after a few seconds. I haven't had this problem even a single time before I upgraded to Windows 10 but now it happens almost every time I try open a folder.
