View 4 RepliesUnder the Network tab of File Explorer, I can see three entries, one of which is my router (with attached Hard Drive) and two computers, each running Windows 10. When I expand the router entry, I can see my hard drive files. I can also see my Users icons when I expand one of the computer's tabs. However, when I click on the other computer's name to search for users, all I see is a message that "This folder is empty". In fact, the folder is not empty, as there are two users on the computer. How I can get this computer to show users, etc.?
View 6 RepliesWin 7 did it, and Win 10 did. I have my downloads go to E:Downloads, like to keep them separate. Win 10 use to show first the files by date, and then any folders under them. Now it is showing all folders first and then the downloaded files. I have tried everything in the view/group by, and sort by to try and get it back to where it was but no luck.

View 1 RepliesI need to replace the personal.xlsb file to my Excel XLSTART folder on my C: Drive but I do not seem to bore down to XLSTART using file explorer. If I go to this pc and choose C: then Users, then my user name I get only such things a Documents, Favorites, One Drive, etc. I need to get to AppData and then bore down to XLSTART. how to get C: completely?
View 2 RepliesNew computer with Windows 10, will not show the floppy disc drive in File Explorer after plugging in. Floppy disc IS in the disc drive when plugging into the computer; then when opening File Explorer, no disc letter or item is shown for this drive. How do we make this work?
View 14 RepliesI'm using Windows 10 on my PC. I have been using it for about 3 months now and I regret installing it. There is so many problems with it. One of these problems is my disk drive will not play or run any disks I insert into it. In the file explorer, the disk drive is not present in the "Devices and Drives" section. However, It is still present in the Device manager.
View 1 Repliesall I have is 'desktop'. Everything else is under that. But all the pics I've seen of windows 10 show 'this PC' as the top level link. I would much prefer that. "desktop' ends up being twice in the tree, and removable media twice as well. Well, actually desktop is right inside my user folder too!
View 5 RepliesI don't know when this first started happening, I just assumed stuff was transferring fast enough for it to not show up (only really moved small things). However, I got a small-ish SSD as a secondary drive for a few important things and want to test the general speed of it... but I can't, because no file transfer dialogue is showing up!!
View 3 RepliesWhen I am upgrading my windows 8 into windows 10 I am not able to upgrade :( from last two times I download 9.8gb and at the end it shows file has been corrupted. Why it showing this error?
View 1 RepliesRecently, I connected a new SSD as a USB drive. It shows "Write Protected" in windows 10. However, same one if I connect to Windows 8.1, then the write protection is not there. Can not do driver update under windows 10 as it is write protected.
View 2 RepliesI have an Epsom A810 printer, connected to desktop PC by USB.
The printer has a USB port for loading pictures to the printer from a thumb drive. Thing is, this port makes the printer show up in Disk Management and My PC as a removable drive.
But it is not a drive at all. I can't access the files on the thumb drive through the printer, so it functions as a phantom drive.
Any method to stop Windows from recognizing the printer as a removable drive?
On W7 i had my nokia lumia 900 unlocked and could plug it into my pc via the usb and it showed up as another drive.this allowed me to add remove music files etc. since installing W10 it no longer shows up?Indeed w10 seems to be changing things that it wants without me okaying it,if this continues i will be going back to w7. View 1 RepliesUsing Win10 Pro x64. I would like to disable windows showing .zip files in explorer as a folder...When you highlight it the contents inside the .zip are shown in the right pane view. I've scoured the net and found ways for Win7(which I did disable .zip folders on my other Win7 machine) and Vista, perhaps 8 too but I don't want to risk trying a method for older versions of windows. Any solution/reg hack or whatever to disable .zip folder?
View 5 RepliesI just installed Windows 10. Not sure if I like it, but I'm trying hard.
Problem: When I go to File Explorer, in the left panel, when I click on a folder name, the contents of that folder (both sub-folders and files) show in the right panel.
In the left panel, when I click on ">" beside a folder name, it will expand in the left panel showing the sub-folders, but not "loose files".
I could have sworn that in earlier versions of Windows the files also showed.
Is there a option setting somewhere to change this behavior and to show the files also in the left panel?
Usually when we plug in a SATA drive it will show up in explorer but it doesn't now after I install Windows 10 (clean install). It work well when I'm on Win 7.
I've check the BIOS it indicate all ports AHCI an I never change anything since Win 7. So what could be the problem? As I swap drives often this feature really important for me...
When I edit a .mkv file (rename, delete or copy/move) on one of my partitions, file explorer freezes and I need to restart it with taskmanager.
I haven't encountered any other files that cause the same freeze as this one (yet..).
I already searched on google and tried editing from a webbrowser and the drive is defragmented automatically, so I don't know what to do.
Since upgrading to Windows 10 from 8.1, I've seen the following message several times.
Display Driver stopped responding and has recovered
Display driver Intel HD Graphics Drivers for Windows 8(R) stopped responding and has successfully recovered.
When it happens, my laptop screen goes black for a few seconds, except for the taskbar and toast notification. I also have an external monitor that doesn't seem affected at all.
I can reproduce the error pretty consistently if I rapidly switch a Flash video back and forth between full-screen and embedded, but that's not the only time I've seen the problem.
As far as I can tell, everything continues running. Even the full-screen video continues running after the screen isn't black any more.
The weird thing is that the driver name it shows isn't the driver I'm using. I've already upgraded my display drivers to the latest available from Intel's site.
Some things I've observed:
The information presented by Windows in Settings -> Display -> Advanced display settings shows the driver for Windows 10 that I downloaded from Intel. The "Intel HD Graphics Control Center" that was installed along with the driver shows the latest driver version that I downloaded from Intel. In Settings -> Apps & Features there's only one "Intel(R) Processor Graphics Driver" listed.Event viewer shows very little useful information:
General
Display driver igfx stopped responding and has successfully recovered.Details (XML View):
- <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event">
- <System>
<Provider Name="Display" />
<EventID Qualifiers="0">4101</EventID>
[Code] ....
It's conceivable that Intel updated the driver, but forgot to change the string somewhere so the error is actually for the Windows 10 driver. I don't know how to find out exactly what failed or why. It's getting that string from somewhere.
In Windows 7 when I open Windows Explorer it comes up with a very simple window that has very basic tabs, Organise, Share With Burn, New Folder. Organise then has a very basic drop down menu.
When I use File Explorer in Windows 10 it comes up with a much more detailed menu that offers four menus, File, Home, Share, View.
Is there any way I can use a window similar to Windows 7? I'm sure it is there somewhere as when you attempt to open a file in an application a window identical to what I want comes up to allow the selection.
On my Surface Book I've noticed it seems to take about 1.5seconds from pressing the file explorer button to it opening whilst this isn't slow my Surface Pro 2 opens instantly just wondering why on a brand new machine its slower than a 3 year old lower spec model?
View 2 RepliesAfter upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, my file explorer simply keeps crashing when navigating in folders.
Example: I go to "This PC" and the window that pops up show all my drives but not how much storage they have/have left. When I try open a drive or folder the window and taskbar closes down and reopen after a few seconds. I haven't had this problem even a single time before I upgraded to Windows 10 but now it happens almost every time I try open a folder.
This is the second time I have posted about the same problem. I can't move file explorer to the task bar. I tried to move it by right clicking on start, then left click on file explorer the menu I get that way just says "pin to start" and more, when I click on more all that is there is don't show with this list, if I left click the start button and then left click file explorer the menu only says "pin to start". I am at a loss, I have had one problem after another with Windows 10 and considering going back to Windows 7. I have tried to revert back to windows 7 from windows 10 but that failed, the only other option I have is to format the hard drive and reload Windows 7. I understand by doing that I will get the Windows 10 10 upgrade icon in the right hand corner of the task bar. How do I get rid of that?
View 9 RepliesI have a custom computer, ECS A780GM-A motherboard, 6 GB of ram AMD CPU, 2.6 GHz tricore.
I am currently upgraded to Windows 10 and learning my way around it. My question is can I add file explorer to the task bar
What I don't understand is why with administrator rights, I can't access or delete files or even save files to the Windows folder.
I also don't have the option if I right click to run File Explorer with Administrator rights.
If I Right Click on another Application I get to run as Administrator
Here are File Explorer properties; as you can see the olption to run as Administrator is grayed out
As the title says I am unable to "see" my NAS in windows explorer. I was able to use explorer to view/add/delete files on my NAS a few weeks ago but now now cannot even see the NAS in the network section. Funny thing is that I am able to ping the server and even login to the GUI via IE and firefox. But i can't get the media files.
I am currently running the evaluation copy of Windows 10: Details:
- Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview
- version 1511
- OS build 10565.41737
- 64Bit
- Intel i&-2600 CPU with 24GB of RAM
I have tried the follow to correct the issue with no success:
- Rebooted windows 10 machine (several times)
- Rebooted Router (Actiontec V2000H)
- Rebooted NAS (FreeNAS 9.3)
- ipconfig /flushdns
- change from using PIN to password
- Change from password to PIN
- using regedit added the AllowInsecureGuestAuth = 1 to the registry.
Notes on NAS: using Freenas 9.3, ZFS volume, enabled CIFS shares. do not require login to access media files (or any files). The server only has media files on it so no password required or enabled.
Notes on Network:
- The network is hardwired with Cat 5e cable (except for wireless printer)
- Windows 10 explorer is able to "see" other windows machines (windows 7 and 8), an Linus Ubuntu 14.04 machine, router (Actiontec V2000H, printer (wireless), AV receiver,
- the windows 7/8 machines are able to access the media files on the NAS with no issues and are able to see the windows 10 machine.
- the ubuntu 14.04 machine is able to access the media files on the NAS with no issues and is able to see the windows 10//8/7 machines on the network.
I like windows 10 but it will be a show stopper if I cannot access my NAS from this Windows 10 machine.
