I have just installed window 10 from window 7, some of my files are still in tact but my personal files are gone?? I have already went to window.old files and check them but they are blank!! What can I do, I am in deep shit now, is there anyway I can get back my files and I don't think I have system restore.
Even when using disk cleanup in admin account it will say deleted but after restarting and going back into disk cleanup they are back.Even using Windows app they come back after deletion. On another note system restore doesn't seem to work , i did a system restore and even though i got the message that system restore completed successfully after i rebooted my screen was frozen and i had to do a system refresh to get it up and running again.I have been waiting for it to delete my temp files for 8 minutes already.
Just upgraded to Windows 10, and now all of my acrobat files open with through internet explorer (whatever its called now) rather than through the acrobat program. As I result, I cannot edit my pdf files.
I ended up using an extra 2 GB or so of hard drive space after the windows 10 install. I ran desk cleanup and removed the old windows files which was a lot. But wasn't Windows 10 supposed to free up space?
Prior to install the computer showed 241GB of 297GB used. Now it says 256GB of 297 used. And this is after windows 10 disk cleanup removed the old OS files which was something like 20GB.
Under storage use it shows
System and Reserved - 49.7 GB inside of which 42.1 GB is system files. Isn't this a lot? The rest of the 7GB under system and reserved is 3GB Virtual Memory, 3GB System Restore and 1.5GB Hibernation file
Apps and Games - 6.83 GB (I have no games and besides the stock apps, I might have just 5 apps installed chrome, vlc player, ytd, ccleaner and iTunes
Temp files - 3.98 GB and I always kept this clean with ccleaner prior to win 10 install but been scared to run it after the update because I'm waiting on more ccleaner updates to save from issues (heard some horror stories using ccleaner on win 10)
One Drive - 51 GB used - I saved movies now this is saved in the cloud not on my hard drive right?
Background. This computer I just got a week ago. I was restored back to factory 8.0 and I than updated to 8.1 and than updated to Windows 10.
All my files are gone, but when I go into Windows Explorer the file system says that this PC has 856 GB out of 1.81 TB full, but I have nothing there. When I click on it all my games etc are not there, and I don't know how to get them back. When I reset Windows I clicked "keep my files" so where are my files? My internet is really slow and would take way to long to re-download and i wont have enough space because all my files are there i cant find them anywhere.
I uninstalled the Windows update (KB3035583 --corrected) and changed the owner of folders so I could delete the 2 gwx.exe files on my computer. I ran a search for 'gwx' and a bunch of files and folders came up, but I don't know which additional ones I should delete... They include:
All .exe's: gwxgc gwxux gwxuxworker gwxconfigmanager gwxui
...and... gwxmig.inf Microsoft-Windows-GWX-Ins%4Operational.evtx windows6.1-kb3035583-x64.psf.cix.xml (several manifest files and folders in windowswinsxs) (several folders named 'wow64_microsoft-windows-gwx...' and 'amd64_microsoft-windows-gwx...')
I've been running WIndows 10 for a little while now, over a month. Now, for some reason I cannot download a file. If I try from Firefox, it fails, if from IE it fails and if from Edge it fails. I'm stumped??? I can surf the web but just can't download any file at all. I've tried downloading attachments from my gmail as well as software from other web sites.
In Windows 10, when I try to open a file within a page or open an attachment it always goes to the Download folder rather than opening. This to say the least is frustrating. This never happened when using Windows 8.1. Is there any way to prevent this happening?
I noticed my menu bar icons started showing a different icon (the default windows program icon) for some reason and Internet sites html started messing up too, so i decided to reboot my computer. Now my background is gone, it's just black. And all my folders and programs are gone. There's just one folder left on my desktop and all of them are empty. My downloads folder is also empty, there's just one folder left and its empty.
Used Laplink Pcmover Pro to transfer my files from my old computer to the new. Problem is that now I can't open pictures, documents, music on the new computer. Keep getting message that I need permission to open this file.
I collect postcards. I have a scan of the front of a postcard and a scan of the back and want to know if I can combine them in one file on my computer. Is this possible.
I am using a Brother MFC-J4510DW scanner/printer...
Should windows 10 (by default) be displaying thumbnails within explorer for m4a files? I'm browsing my iTunes media folder and I can see thumbnails only for .mp4, .mp3, .m4p but not for m4a. If I play an m4a file within media player or iTunes I can see the album art. It's just not on the file when viewing it from explorer. The settings are correct. I have no additional codecs installed (or Quicktime though that's prob not relevant). Can it only display them with a codec pack downloaded? Seems strange that it does display thumbnails for the m4p protected files though.
The caveat is that if look at an album folder that contains m4a files then I can see the album art preview on the folder, but double clicking into the folder where the specific songs reside just shows the default windows music icon. Whilst m4p, I don't see album preview on the folder, but clicking into the folder shows the individual songs with their album art thumbnail.
I performed the upgrade on Windows 10 after installation I was trying to install office 2007, the DVD rom drive is seen by win 10 because I can eject the disk but no files to be seen in explorer and it won't auto start despite all the settings.. I have changed the auto start to: ask me, run always then back to auto all to no avail. I have also tried my Gigabyte disk to load the drivers for the board, same thing. I do get an occasional "directory name invalid d:" where d: is he DVD rom drive.
I need the computer to load my 3D program, if I can't resolve this I will scrap win 10 and reload win 7.
I cannot search files like I did before; it does not work in the same way and I cannot find the files I need like I did before!
Formally, I used to type for example "contract in the search cell and all the contract files and sub folders in the open folder would have appeared; not anymore, why?
I have a work system, and the issue as in existence on 7 prior to my upgrade today, but I wanted to bounce this off the community.
Ok, I cannot paste files. If I have a folder open on the desktop and want to right click and do it, or by KB, I just don't get paste or paste shortcut.
I believed that possibly in the upgrade to 10 on the machine this might get taken care of, but alas not.
I can copy text between apps with no issues.
Looking to see what steps I can take, while it was on 7, I did an SFC /scannow and nothing was amiss...
I installed Win 10. I have several hundred MP3's in my Win 7 "Music" folder, but in Win 10 I now see only a dozen or so. I rolled back 10 to 7; presto! there they are. Re-installed 10 and have the same issue: I cannot locate a folder full of my music. I can find any title I search for; just not all of them in one location.
Also, is there a good replacement app for Media Player?
Sometimes the video streams, other times I get the message ...
Can't play. Try playing something else. This items file format may be unsupported, the file extension incorrect, or the file may be corrupted 0xc00d36c4 (0xc00d36c4)
I know that the file extension is correct, and the file is not corrupted.
I didn't ever have this problem when using Windows 7.
When I want to open a JPG file, a list pops up to choose what program to open it. I select the one and there is an additional choice to always use the selected program automatically. I check that also. However it still pops up with the 5 or 6 program choice window when I click on a JPG file. How do I get the choice to stick?
Certain .exe files (seemingly ones that don't require an install to run) on my laptop refuse to open, responding to different commands in different ways.
When I first run them, I get a SmartScreen Filter alert. After pressing 'Run Anyway' (scans reveal them to be safe), they will appear to begin to load, but never actually open. This happens every time I try to open them subsequently, although without the SmartScreen alert. I can close the container folder and try again.
If I try to Run as Administrator, however, the folder freezes entirely. I can use other folders, but it takes a File Explorer restart to make the crashed instance disappear. I have tried deleting one of these applications after attempting to open it, and not been allowed to until a full restart, implying they are running constantly after I attempt to start them.
I had assumed this was a problem with SmartScreen, but even after turning it off, the problem persists.
Most other .exe files do work (regedit, games downloaded from Steam, etc.), so I can't understand what's making this small set of files unable to load.
Any attempt to drag-drop, move to, or copy files to backup disk results in greyed-out destination disk and "Not Responding" message. Have tried all troubleshooters to no avail.
When trying to delete some files I get a dialog box entitled Interrupted Action with a second line saying 'Invalid MS-DOS Function". It appears any files from Windows 7 will not delete.
