View 1 RepliesWhen I "upgraded" to Windows 10, apparently I set up everything on the local administrator account. When I went to set up a separate account yesterday it disabled me from getting onto the administrator account, which is where I have everything set up. When I go to log in, both accounts are on the log-in screen but it won't take the passwords for the administrator account, which I know are correct and it even gives me the right hints but won't accept the pw. It says, "Your password was changed on a different device and you must sign in to this device once with your new password and then you can sign in with your new PIN. Well, I haven't added any devices, just a new local account. I really need to get back into the administrator account since that is where everything is. I've done the prompt, CMD, net user administrator /active:yes and it just denies access obviously because I am logged in as an administrator.
View 2 RepliesUpgraded to Windows 10 last night. Today, while on Google Chrome (my preferred browser) I tried to download an image into my folder (as I am the only user) and it says "You don't have permission to save in this location. Contact the Administrator to obtain permission. Would you like to save in the picture folder instead?" Then when I answer yes, the same box comes up again telling me access is denied.
I had to save it under my Documents folder instead. I had access to all my folders prior to the install. I went under the picture folder/library properties and gave my username permission (the only one without permission) and that didn't work.
When I first converted from Win 7, Win 10 transferred my main ACCT: Patrick
But, the boot time became so elongated, the net gave me some tips but to so, I had to use SAFE BOOT. But the old F8 would not work so I used the MSCONFIG. But, then Win 10 CREATED a new account using my email and password I had for Microsoft Live web site, DELETED MY OLD PATRICK AND REAL ADMIN ACCT. It took considerable time to figure the PW it was looking for.
So went back to regular boot, renamed the EMAIL name to the original PATRICK acct as it had been deleted,
They did give me ADMIN rights but that rarely works when you do some heavy lifting.
This leaves me with ONE ACCT, PATRICK with ADMIN RIGHTS, not with full ADMIN privileges.
So, lets create a REAL Admin account.
Net says: in DOS mode, net user administrator /active:yes
Wrong, access denied
tried: net user patrick /active:yes
Wrong, access denied
When I was converted, it converted the Home Premium to Home.
How to CREATE a REAL ADMIN on "Home"?
I just upgraded my laptop from windows 7 to windows 10. Before I upgraded, my brother created an account for himself and windows 10 seems to think that his account was the main one. He didn't have administrator access, so now I'm locked out of everything that requires administrator access.
When I try to install new software, the security pop up happens, asking for an administrator password, but there is no field to enter a password.
I can't open the command prompt (windows -> cmd -> enter)
I can't switch accounts, logging out lists no other accounts.
How do I get administrator access back, and how can I make windows stop thinking I'm my brother?
My internet worked fine and I didn't do any changes to it up until it stopped working. I've managed to fix the internet access to allow me to access the internet on my laptop through wi-fi but network access still says no internet access. Websites work however ethernet does not work! I can't connect online on my playstation because ethernet doesn't work. I've tried disabling and enabling the ethernet. I checked the cables, I re-installed the drivers and i turned off and on the router more than I could count.
The internet works on my laptop however a connection test on my playstation 3 says obtain ip address succeeded and internet connection failed. So I can't play online. I am absolutely certain the playstation 3 is not fault as I checked vigurously the settings and I've put in the right connections, however it still does not work? Should I buy new cables for the router?
I needed to do something in Windows 10 and I needed to be in administrator. How to do that. Windows 7 was easy.
View 8 RepliesAs I have progressed through the various versions of Windows, I have somehow managed to acquire 5 administrator accounts (3 x Administrator, 1 x All Users and 1 x David which seems to be the latest). As I am the only user of the computer, is it possible to merge or reduce down to just the David account?
View 12 Replieshow do I get Win10 to recognize the fact that I am an administrator? I am listed as an administrator in Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > User Accounts.
The reason I ask is that somehow a program call "MPC Cleaner" has managed, uninvited, to get into my system, and all attempts to get rid of it are met with the usual "....administrator...." messages. I've tried all ways, straight forward deletion, entering the folder via command prompt (which renders "access denied" even after the "attrib -r" command), and even the Avast Shredder is unable to touch it. To misquote Henry VIII, "who will rid me of this turbulent pest?"
How do I get rid of this popup on windows 10 Pro / 64 Bit... Once in a while I get a pop up when moving a file or folder asking for... administrator rights.... It's not that big a deal... When it shows up I Click on CONTINUE and the function is completed...
I'm running three drives and one of them has two partitions so that brings it up to four mapped drives... I'm always moving stuff around, downloading, adding plug-ins to my software and so on...
Below are the settings I have set to keep the prompt from popping up but as I said it shows up on occasion...
UAC is turned "OFF"
Windows Smart Screen is turned "OFF"
Security Options ... Accounts: Administrator account status "Enabled"
All the drives have full control "Enabled"
I have just installed windows 10 and I am listed as the administrator. However, if I try to save a newly written document in a folder that I have always previously used for that purpose, I get a message which says:- You don't have permission to save in this location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission. Would you like to save in the Documents folder instead?
I have also noticed that many folders in my C: drive have a small icon attached (a tiny box with a blue top and right facing arrow head). If I try to access any of these folders I am refused permission with the message "access denied". For example, if I try to enter a folder shown as C:/users/all users/documents I get this message. There are dozens of places where this 'blue arrowhead' occurs.
I got this issue yesterday that some applications in my win 10 pc v10240 wont run until I run them as administrator. I thought I did something wrong because I was messing up with registry entries so I tried googling it but didn't find anything. Then today I decided to reinstall windows and after the clean install now the issue is happening again. I dont know what to do because the apps were working fine a few days ago but as from yesterday they wont even after the clean installation of windows. I have checked for viruses and such but nothing on my end.
View 3 RepliesI have the Administrator account on my computer. I am the only User, no other accounts have been made. So why is it from time to time I find I am blocked from doing something as I do not have permission? Who else but me fas permission? Examples include permission refused for accessing a particular file (not one requiring a password, which would be understandable) and particularly being refused to permission to save somewhere (nowhere 'special') so I have to save to a folder other than the one I had chosen, or selected by an app.
Also, as I am also always the Administrator, why do I have to opt in to what I am in the first place as with Cmd prompt? I used to get apps not launching because I was Administrator, and the only way out I discovered was to reset.
I have a Laptop (Windows Home 10) and a Desktop (Windows 8.1 home) and I want to enable Administrator on both. I have used all of the suggesting about this I got on the internet and nothing works.
View 7 RepliesI have encountered many problems to come as I learn Win 10. The first of which is how can I change or edit the administrator's name on my PC. I thought like win-7, I could edit, change, or even turn off password protect.
I find no way to do this, as I'am the only one using my PC, I do not need to sign in with a password every time I fire my PC up. Normally I resort to system restore for most problems, however I don't think that would work in this case.
The error code I received told to me to empty files and then "Run the command prompt as an administrator"? Then, type wuauclt.exe/update now??......I don't know what run the command prompt means. I have no skills.
View 2 RepliesI've just downloaded my Windows 10 upgrade and can't send mail through Outlook 13. On a forum I was told to run the sfc command but when I tried, I was told that I'm not an administrator. Mine is the only account on my PC, so surely I must be.
View 3 RepliesIf I right click on a bat file, and Run as Administrator, all I get is a brief flash (perhaps a command window?). Just double clicking on it runs as expected (though not elevated, which is what I need). If I open an elevated command window and run the bat file within that window it works fine.
Tested with a simple bat file (echo "hello", pause). Same results.
WIn10 Home build 10240, administrator user account
What I don't understand is why with administrator rights, I can't access or delete files or even save files to the Windows folder.
I also don't have the option if I right click to run File Explorer with Administrator rights.
If I Right Click on another Application I get to run as Administrator
Here are File Explorer properties; as you can see the olption to run as Administrator is grayed out
I recently downloaded Windows 10. For some reason, my account on the computer --which is the only account on the computer-- is a 'standard account'. Because of this, I can't download or make some important changes that I need to make. I admit that I'm not computer savvy, but I've tried a few things. I've tried activating the 'hidden' Windows 10 administrator password but I can't because you have to run the cmd as an administrator to do this [when I try it doesn't give me the option to click yes]. I also tried adding family members to my account in order to make those accounts administrators. I created new email addresses, send the invitation, and accepted the invitations, but every time I log on to my Microsoft account, it still states that they invitations are pending.
View 2 Repliesmy son has deleted the master administrator accounts on my laptop and I am unable to restore the accounts.
How do I get the Windows 10 to reinstall the Operating system and recover the accounts?
No I cannot do it via restore or refresh as you need administrator facilities to perform these tasks.
I have been running windows 10 for a while now, without any BSOD whatsoever. About a month ago I added a new account and made it my administrator account, then changed the privilege on my original account to standard user account. No issues in doing so. I have been successful, in the past, in switching back and forth from admin to user accts with no problems. Today, though I logged into the admin account to do some updates. But after about 1 to 2 minutes into logging onto it, I get the BSOD with the error bad_pool_caller. The only thing that I had recently done was to install the beta version of Malwarebytes anti-ransomware (last night). The first thing that I did after getting these crashes was to uninstall that program. Unfortunately, that did not fix the problem (or was not the problem, I'm guessing). When I am logged into the standard user account I can run all day with no BSOD. I don't know any correlations between the admin account and the BSOD other than maybe there are some drivers it is looking for? Every time it crashes it says that it is collecting data before closing down. I went ahead and downloaded the dm_log_collector file and am submitting it.
View 2 RepliesI got 2 new computers with Windows 10. When I tried using one computer and somehow I just keyed my email and password and thereafter every time i start my computer i had to key in the password. I then wrongly deleted the administrator account. Now i cant restore the administrator account. I have tried everything suggested on the net. If I have to reinstall windows 10 to solve the problem
View 1 RepliesLike the title, I forgot the Administrator password. (I don't have any other Administrator accounts)
View 3 Repliesthe error message says--onenote (office 2010) cannot fully register itself with windows desktop search because you dont have administrator permissions, to complete the registration, contact your system administrator and then repair the one note installation.
ive made sure i have administrative permissions, and attempted to "repair" one note install, from programs and features, but dont have administrative priviledges.
So I upgraded my Windows 7 to 10 a few weeks ago and have been loving it. Decided to upgrade my parents computer to it as well yesterday. When my mom wanted to play a Free Cell game they were asking me to log into a hotmail account. They only have an Aol email account. Figure I'd sign into mine really quick and that would be the last I'd heard of it. Unfortunately now the computer associates a random hotmail account of mine that I have lying around as their main "administrator" account. What's worse, now they need to use my password whenever they turn the computer now.
That's really silly How do I delete my administrator hotmail account from their computer? I don't want them to deal with having to remember a password for an account I rarely use myself. Its their computer, not mine.
