How To Extend The Size Of Partition
Sep 27, 2015
When I first got my PC I installed RAID 5 across it. I stupidly gave Windows 30GB and the rest as storage. Big mistake I know. Now I have no room at all to update windows and cant figure out how to extend the size of the partition. I would prefer to make a fresh install and give windows around 100GB and keep the rest for storage.. How would I come around to do this without losing the storage contents

Since upgrading to Windows 10 I have had to keep extending the primary partition, now up to 250Gb and full. I do have free capacity on another partition from which I have been taking spare capacity with any problems so far, but the partition tool won't let me take any more.

Until recently, I ran a dual boot system with Ubuntu - but for business reasons, I uninstalled it (along with it's bootloader). Anyway, I cleared up the hard drive space in the Disk Management app on windows 10, I have about 350GB free space from Ubuntu and I cannot extend the C: partition, you can see what I mean here
I can't seem to extend my partition and whatever program I use I have to buy the full version to extend my partition,

I am having Dual Boot PC XP and Windows 10 on different hard disk. Windows 10 have been upgraded from Windows 7 but the System Reserved Partition on Windows 10 remained 100 MB ( 30 MB is free space ), wherein if we clean install the Windows 10 then System Reserved Partition is 350 MB. Now the problem, if I create a backup then the minimum 50 MB free space is required in System Reserved Partition otherwise backup fails. I tried command fsutil usn deletejournal which was advised by someone but it increase the free size from 20 MB to 30 MB only. I am hesitant to use partition manager software because once I have used this on another PC on a simple partition and though it has increased the size of the partition but data of my other partition was deleted.

Had 8.1 then downloaded 10, unfortunately when I originally installed 8.1 I made my C partition too small and it's almost full all the time.
Is there anyway to increase the size?
Also I want to reset my PC right now since it's gotten extremely sluggish for some odd reason and I can't see any thumbnails for many things despite trying loads of stuff suggested on the web.
When resetting will I get any option to change the partition size?

re Settings -> System -> Storage
It seems as though Windows 10 can add some, but not necessarily all new or detected partitions to an aggregate capacity under the label This PC (C: ) Even if the partitions are empty NTFS or RAW (inc. Linux Swap?) also include them as usage: 'System & reserved.' I haven't able to discern a pattern of how Windows 10 determines if a new or empty formatted partition will be added to the aggregate Storage summary. At best it's confusing, and appears to be broken.
Further: deleting some partitions, or shutting down, unplugging disks and rebooting does not necessarily alter the reported aggregate that is shown for This PC (C: ) i.e. You would expect removing all drives and partitions to restore This PC (C: ) status to show only the Windows partition capacity - it doesn't and it continues to show 100s extra GB that are no longer present on the PC.
E.g. on my previous install I was seeing an impossible 239GB 'system & reserved' with 323GB 'capacity.'
My system:
Windows 10 & 7 partitions each = 100GBWindows disk total capacity = 223GBOther disks, mix of NTFS, EXT4 (Mint 17, /home) Swap (Linux)
N.B. I've tried this a couple of ways with fresh installs on clean disks and see the same result. It doesn't make a difference if Windows 10 or Windows 7 is installed first. I have made the partition order:
recovery|efi|msr|windows|other
Other things that make no difference:
Removing or assigning new disk lettersFor both Windows 10 and Windows 7:
Hibernation is disabled (from admin cmd terminal)Page-file management to be on C: only (other disks set to none)
At the moment I am unsure if this is merely a 'cosmetic' issue or something that might cause more serious functionality problems later e.g. not being able to install since Windows incorrectly thinks a drive or partitions are used or reserved.

Experiencing problem with the modern apps, where the content of the app is bigger than the actual app window, so it is impossible to use it, because the controls (buttons, input fields, scrollbars are not visible)?
Resizing of the app does not work, as the content is still bigger (its wrongly resizing with the window). Even maximized app is still unusable.
It occurs mainly in the Skype, Mail, People or Calendar apps. As you can see on the Skype screenshot, as soon as app starts it shifts the skype logo to the right, and the whole content is shifted as well.
You can also see the shift bellow, as the Options menu is partially hidden as well.
Skype is impossible to use, because the text input field on bottom is not visible.

My 32GB Windows 10 Home PC (recently upgraded from 8.1) is low on disk space. I deleted Windows.old and I have hibernation disabled. Apart from a few browsers, very little else is installed, yet I only have 11.7GB left?
One reason may be the size of the Windows folder:
Size 14.7GB
Size on Disk 9.91GB
From my calculations, Windows appears to be using the higher figure in determining available disk space.
Why is 'Size' so much greater than 'Size on Disk', can I do anything about it? I have a similar 8.1 machine, it does not have this disparity (12.4GB and 12.3GB).
What would be a normal 'Size' for a Windows folder on Windows 10 Home PC very recently upgraded from 8.1 i.e. with few, if any Windows live updates run ?

I am having repeated problems with text and folders sizes. I had set them up to suit me a while ago, but every now and then they change, apparently by themselves - perhaps after an upgrade? I certainly don't remember making any changes myself.
At the moment the folders I have on my home screen are very small and bunched up into the top left hand corner of the screen. And the text labels to the folders are almost too small for my tired old eyes to read.
How do I get the folders to be bigger, the same size as I had them in Windows 7? And how to I get the text labels to be the same size as they were before? I already have text size set to 175%.
Also, when I open a folder or list contents in some programs the text looks fainter than it should, and has a strange look to it - certainly not the same as when I was running Windows 7; it's much poorer.

Okay, so I have a 3TB Seagate BUP BK External Harddrive, I recently partitioned it for some Ubuntu action. Problem is, I got rid of all the Ubuntu leftovers and now i'm not able to reunite the two parts on my HDD. However, I can do whatever the hell I want with the other two terabytes. I can partition, extend, and manipulate it however I want.

I have received this message about not enough storage on my OC (C: ). So I searched and made changes to some of my files such as MyDocuments. I changed the location of it to my other disk (D: ). However, after a few days I get that message again so I have searched it up again and merging my extra space from other drive into OS(C: ). Perhaps looking at the image attached would explain my situation better than my English
My OC(C: ) Is only 119 GB and its almost full, yet I have plenty of storage in "Disk 2" as my "Data 2" File is empty.

I'm going under Computer Management>Disk Management and have deleted a partition which gave me the unallocated 48gb, and I'm trying to add that unallocated space to the main drive (C), and it's not letting me, When I right the C drive there is only a shrink volume option, the extended volume is shaded gray.
I have windows 10, not 8. I'll attach a picture. Dropbox - issue.png

So my C: Drive has been acting up lately, with barely enough space to stay alive. I tried to take some space off the D: Drive, which has 240 GB of unused space, and add it to the C: Drive using Disk Management. But when I shrink the D: Drive and Right Click on C: Drive the Extend Volume button is Greyed Out! I think this is happening because the Free Space is not adjacent to the C: Drive.

After upgrading to Windows 10, the "extend displays" function is not functioning well on my PC (ASUS monitors; ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO display adapter). I have tried disconnecting & reconnecting and have tinkered with most related settings I am aware off, but all in vain.
I found a crude workaround accidentally. I restart my PC from the log in screen until the dual monitors start in the extended view (how this works!). It usually takes about two to three restarts.

Running Windows 10 (10586) and am having an issue w/ VSS storage size. I have a 250GB SSD as my windows drive and have plenty of free space (121GB).
My problem is I'll allocate something for VSS storage size. I'll set it to 22% (or anything, 10% whatever). It seems to stay at that for a short period of time, but then will shrink. Sometimes to a very small percentage and obliterate my restore points and some times even 0% (though VSS IS enabled on the drive, 0% is set as max usage)
This whole thing makes VSS virtually useless as a reliable recovery method. Is a third party program manipulating it? How I can get the Max Usage I select stick?

Upgrade to Windows 10.
One peculiar thing we noticed is that different PC's demand different size for the USB Recvery disk after the upgrade. We had a range from 4GB to 32GB. A majority used 16GB.
What is the reason for this difference.

I have just update a dell tablet to win 10. I would like to increase the screen viewing area and have auto hidden the task bar.
My question is about the 2 top bars, ( not sure of the correct names ). Can either of these bars be hidden/removed/disabled and so increase the screen size.
I know how to go full screen when I reach my target page, its just in the general viewing scenario that I wish a larger viewing size.

Love the Win 10 preview. My problem is some of my icons are too big or too small. Half and half on the desktop. My fonts are so small I can hardly see them Also my icons are just about touching. Need to space them better. On Explorer the text is fine but when I go to the address bar they are so small I can't see them very clearly. I am running a L34 Ultra wide monitor at 3440x1440.
My second question is I bought an extra SSD hard drive to load the 10 preview on and left all my win 8.1 pro on my bigger SSD hard drive. I want to0 upgrade it to the bigger T-1 SSD EVO Samsung. Will the upgrade know that I want to put it on my EVO SSD?

Windows 7 doesn't let you organise folders according to their size. I was hoping that maybe 10 does? Or maybe there's some complicated reason why it can't ever be done?
