How To Lock Screen Instantly Without Pressing Window-L Keyboard
Feb 10, 2016
I sometimes connect to my Windows 10 PC at my work place from home.
When I was using Windows-7(work place PC), I was able to select the menu button (lower-left) and select 'Lock Screen' menu from the shutdown sub-menu. I recently received a new desktop PC which is Windows-10, but I found Windowns 10 doesn't have such 'lock-screen' menu that I can choose with my mouse. So the only way I can lock the screen is using Window-L button which is ok when I'm at work. But when I'm remotely logged in from my home, if I press Window-L keys, my home notebook is screen locked, not my work place Desktop.
Since today morning I am not able to login to my Win10 PC. It starts normal until the lock Screen appears. The clock in the lock Screen is working, so everything seems to be ok. But the System does not react on any keyboard or mouse Input.
The Keyboard is working perfectly in the BOOT Menue (after F2 during Startup). So I am quite sure that this is not a hardware problem.
Yesterday I set my Bulgarian keyboard layout to be the default one and my German to be the secondary. Then I shut down and today when I tried to log in, only the Bulgarian layout was enabled (Cyrillic letters) and I can't switch to the German layout (Latin letters). You guessed it - my password uses Latin chars . The key combinations Alt+Shift or Win+Space are not working.
Password reset works only with pre-made passdisk or something like that (I haven't set one). I tried going to Troubleshoot mode, but couldn't find anything useful there yet. Running the command prompt troubleshooting option gave me the opportunity to change the keyboard layout, enter my password and use the cmd prompt. There I tried to use the "control" command to set the keyboard layouts but it doesn't recognise the "control" command. Maybe I have to navigate somewhere else (default was system32).
So I recently downgraded from Win10 to 7 and after everything finished, I can't type in my password or move my mouse! I tried replugging the USBs to no avail and I restarted and booted my pc in safe mode And now I'm stuck on the lock screen in safe mode. How do I fix this?
since I installed windows 10, every time I power-OFF, the number lock closes. That did not happen with Windows 7. At first, I activated the Num Lock every time I booted. Now, even when the Num Lock light is ON, the number pad is inactive. I wish to have the Num lock ON at all times, like with Windows 7.
I am having an issue with the windows 10 notifications, the ones with the little blue circle with a white i in the middle, sticking. After I press the X to close them they stay on the screen in front of everything until I restart.
nothing works, ive tried everything that comes up in google.. every possible combination of minimise for a keyboard shortcut, and none will minimize one window !
want it as a shortcut to a button on my mouse. so tilting that you can no longer do this and it isn't an option in logitech gaming software..
i have a new toshiba satellite c70 d-b- 10u and it works ok in both W8.1 or upgraded to W10 until i log in via my microsoft account
it then locks the keyboard.........if have factory reset back to 8.1 and upgraded to 10 with a new log in.....works ok, log into microsoft account and the keyboard locks..
EDIT microsoft account also locks keyboard in W8.1 after first typing
I have gone through the synaptic touch pad settings several times and and I still have to use cat paw touches on the keyboard and touch pad to keep the window from randomly zooming. Also the search window keeps popping up randomly and I have to tap the touch pad to remove it.
I upgraded to Win 10 on Friday, and since, despite several resetting PC attempts, Win 10 will not load to the login screen. Instead, it is stuck on a loop flashing between the lock screen and a gray loading screen quickly back to the lock screen -- instead of loading to the login screen. This only happens when I attempt to restart or update my PC. If I go to the lock screen because I locked my PC or it fell asleep, I can unlock it. I have also attempted to reset my PC to the previous build, to no avail. I have no restore points.
Since the latest update (It introduced the slide show of pictures on the lock screen. I think it is KB3124200) I haven't been able to press Enter or Space or any other key for that matter to "slide up" the lock screen photo to get to the password screen. I've looked through the lock screen settings, but I see nothing that could prevent this.
I upgraded from Windows 8 to 10 without a hitch an hour ago and kept all of my personal files and apps. I set up my start menu and everything was working fine, but I wanted to change the image on the logon screen (or whatever you call the screen in between the lock screen and the screen where you enter your PIN/info). So I took a risk and downloaded the 3rd party app here:
[URL] and uploaded an image and hit apply. Of course right after doing that I went to lock my PC to see if it worked, and as you can tell... it didn't.
I've tried rebooting and it hasn't worked. It's just very rapidly flashing between a blue screen w/ a loading circle and my lock screen image.
This might be a stupid question but I havent found a solution for it myself, probably looking in all the wrong places.. would like to be able to have my computer go to the lock screen after an alotted time of inactivity without turning off the screen itself as in the power settings. I usually have screen shutoff/sleep set for longer periods but would like the screen to lock sooner.
Every time I turned my PC on it would stay on for a few seconds then reboot, no BIOS screen or anything showed, I finally got it to work and it said my BIOS was corrupt and it gave me an option to retrieve a backup, which I did and then it started working, it then came up with "Windows can't start up" it gave me recovery options, I tried system restore, no luck, I then completely wiped my PC and reinstalled everything through the recovery, it turned on, every thing was fine.I then turned it off to plug in all of my cables and when I plugged the power cord in, it started the same thing except now it turns on then INSTANTLY boots up again and it continuously loops until I turn it off.
I installed Windows 10, but now when I try to open Settings, it appears then disappears instantly. I tried rebooting but it changed nothing. Also... when I right click and choose Personalize... it won't come up
I'm not entirely sure if it's hibernate or sleep. But it's the only option available in the shutdown menu, so i hope you know what i'm talking about. It's a desktop. And it does put the machine into sleep, but it instantly turns the machine back. How to troubleshoot this kind of issue. I've found plenty of people having problems not being able to initiate sleep, but my problem is getting it to stay in sleep.
I upgraded (free) from 7 to 10 a month ago and all is going well apart from the lock screen. Sometimes when I boot up I see the lock screen for the briefest moment before I get to the regular sign in screen. Win+L does not result in a Lock screen but the regular sign in screen (Blue window and bottom left options).
I have tried the NoLockScreen DWord registry option with no luck either. Both manually and as a 'reg' file insert. Lock screen is set on via settings and I can select Spotlight, background images and apps to show etc.
I do not have Gpedit.msc as I have the Home version of Win 10.
I've been running Windows 10 myself for a few days. My girlfriend for a few weeks/months. We noticed a small something that is not much but is getting on the nerve after a while.
We lock our computer or put them to sleep and when trying to get from the lock screen to the login screen, nothing is happening. We wait a few moment and everything is fine. Here is a few cases...
I'm at the lock screen. Click the mouse or hit a key. Nothing. Try a few times and I get to the login screen.
Another case : From the lock screen, hit a key on the keyboard multiple time and nothing. Click the mouse once and it's ok.
Everything work fine after that and it's no big deal but whe having to do this game a few times each days it's start to get on the nerve. Sometimes it's fine and we get to the login screen right away.
In my case it's a brand new install and in the case of my girlfriend it's an upgrade from 8.1.
Recently i notice that i am not being presented with the lock screen initially before the login screen. I don't recall doing anything to bypass the lock screen. how to get the lock screen back?
This issue has plagued me since I've transitioned to Windows 8 and up. The Lock Screen feature (primarily ctrl + w) gets in the way of using certain programs. I've tried a few methods, all of which either don't work or stopped working.
Registry Editor Local Group Policy Editor And Winaero Tweaker
Is there any other way to disable this feature? It's the only problem I have with this OS. As I've said before, one of the methods worked fine but I feel that an update might have nullified my changes.
When I right click my desktop and go to personalization then click "lock screen" nothing happens and it freezes on background. I have to close out then start over to use other functions.
I just installed W10M and MSN Weather stopped working so I installed Weather Channel app. I can't get any weather to display on the lock screen. I am running OS 10166 for some reason.
so apparently my PC has started to do a thing were it will just randomly drop all network processes (connections) and it either recovers slowly or not at all and a restart of the programs or the PC is needed..
here is a Screen grab of the issue in some way.. btw just thought you should know, i had around 7-9 connections up at this point!
