View 9 RepliesChanged something and can no longer see Taskbar on bottom, only the sides. Also lost the search bar. Tried tuning off autohide and every setting involving the Taskbar. Even tried shrinking the screen through resolution. I have to put Taskbar on the side to be able to see it.
The more I try to customize anything in Win 10 the worse it gets. Can't even seem to reset everything to default.
When I press/click on Start, and then type 'Power' for instance to get PowerShell, I want to right click and Run as administrator. Somehow that is gone. I can only Pin to Start. Did updates, reboots, etc. I cannot even click and drag icons from the Start menu - just has a red X. I had to make a shortcut on the desktop to run PowerShell as an admin. It works on another Windows 10 machine no issues.
View 3 RepliesWhen I open up the start menu it shows "We are getting search ready" forever. Worked until when I started my computer up today. I have attached a screenshot of this.
View 4 RepliesI have tried to install the latest version of a program that I had installed in Windows 7 but the installation process said that a previous version was still present. The install app offered to uninstall the old version but for some reason did not install the new version. When I tried to install once more I got the same message. I have attached a snip-it picture of the message.
View 3 RepliesIn my switch from Windows 7 to 10 I lost MS Word and I really need it. Tried to adjust to Open Writer, but it doesn't work for my specific application.
I do not want to pay for a new MS Word at this time.
I upgraded from windows 7 to 10-when finished there was a red cross through the wifi icon.Having read numerous forums,I established that there was no old VPN software;I updated the Broadcom 802.11b/g/n software and in network adapter properties,I unticked power management switching off the adapter;also, altered bandwidth to 20_40MHz.As soon as I clicked on that, the wifi switched on!It then works until the computer is switched off;when on again, same problem. If I go to network adapter properties, and disable and then re-enable the adapter, wifi comes on again.

View 1 RepliesA good friend of mine went ahead and updated from Win 7 to win 10 without backing up anything (despite my objections) and now has windows live mail but any of his old email messages are gone. I would suspect they are in the windows. Old folder in .app but not sure. Does windows 10 store the emails in the .app file like win 7? I am using Win 7 and will upgrade once I know that everything is working with 10.
View 3 RepliesWhen I upgraded to 10 all the pinned websites I had on my Win 8 startscreen disappeared. Can I get them back? I also want to upgrade a Win 7 machine. Will my destop apps, shortcuts, and websites reappear in 10?
View 1 RepliesInstalled the 10041 iso, ran windows updates and now I have lost my start screen/menu.
View 9 RepliesI noticed a folder named" Windows.migrated" and I deleted in error thinking it wasn't necessary anymore. This was after i upgraded from windows 8 to 8.1 to 10. Unfortunately it caused ALL my store apps including the default ones to be deleted. I'm a bit lost of what to do now. I don't have a restore point to access.
View 3 RepliesSince yesterday i had popular news(bing) when i enter search but now that is gone and when i enter search it looks like this:
How to get back news on that search screen?
I didn't disable any related settings...
Can "Search the web and Windows" be set to search only Windows locally? I've read that this can be done via a policy editor, but I work in Windows 10 Home, and that option isn't directly available.
View 1 RepliesOut of the blue, the search windows box in the bottom toolbar opens and blacks out one third of the screen. I am tired of it interfering with what I am doing online. Is there any way this box can be removed or disabled?
View 2 RepliesI have 2 machines running windows 10, and it seems like a lot of struggle of late. My latest problem as of this eve on my downstairs machine, is that Windows Search seems to be confined to just the store and web. Meaning, if I click on search and type in firewall, it will lead me to a couple options in the store and the rest of the options are up on the web. Same if I punch in notepad. It won't search locally for some reason.
View 2 RepliesIn Windows 7/8/8.1 I would press the Start/Windows button and start typing the name of a program (ie: Firefox, Word, etc) and it would pop up, learn, and as I did the same thing in the future.....I would just press Windows key, type wor, and Word would pop up and I press enter. Don't need to take my hands off the keyboard.
Windows 10 does not do that. I type Word and get Wordpad. I type Firefox and get 'Download Firefox - Free web browser', Secure (for SecureCRT) give me 'SecureCRT (file folder)', even though these apps are installed. Is there a way to put the apps in the search?
I have some HDDs connected through SATA in my PC and in one of them, I stored my files. Included that path in Indexing service, Windows can't show me the file I search.
Instead, if I search a file or a folder stored in my DropBox folder for example, (under C:usersEmanueleDropbox) the windows search show it immediately.
Some example.
If i want to search a file or folder stored in D:, windows search not show any file....
If i search a folder in indexed in C: all works fine.
I tried to rebuild index too many times.
Up until a few days ago when I clicked the windows key and typed C:projects (or any folder) and clicked enter that location would open. This is no longer working. I can still open applications but I can't open any folder locations. Is there a settings somewhere for this?
After more testing, when I hit the windows key and type C:projects and hit the enter key....Nothing happens. However if I do the same procedure but instead click on C:projects with my mouse the folder opens. So it seems only the enter key won't open the folder.
whenever I click on search windows nothing pops up I may have disabled it how can I enable it again?
View 4 RepliesI recently upgraded to Windows 10 and have encountered an interesting problem. I realized it initially when I would press start and begin to type a program's name in order to run it, as I was doing with Windows 7, but it would not find any results and would prompt me to Google the program. I found it strange but didn't think much of it.
Once I started looking into the issue, I noticed when I go to Indexing Options it says "Indexing is not running." When trying to rebuild indexing, it gives the message about how it will take a while, and then does nothing. So I decided to look into Windows Search.
Windows Search is not and will not run. First: If I go to services.msc and try to start the Windows Search service, it tells me that "The Windows Search service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs."
So I tried through an elevated cmd prompt: "net start wsearch" gives me error 15:
"C:WINDOWSsystem32>net start wsearch
The Windows Search service is starting..
The Windows Search service could not be started.
A system error has occurred.
System error 15 has occurred.
The system cannot find the drive specified."
Finally, and perhaps the strangest thing, one post told me to go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE Microsoft Windows Search SetupCompletedSuccessfully and change the value to 0. However, the only thing in the registry under Windows Search is a Preferences folder. There are no keys there. So to me it looks as though Windows Search does not currently exist on my computer.
So of course I run sfc /scannow. Unfortunately, it tells me:
C:WINDOWSsystem32>sfc /scannow
Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.
Beginning verification phase of system scan. Verification 100% complete.
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windirLogsCBSCBS.log. For example C:WindowsLogsCBSCBS.log. Note that logging is currently not supported in offline servicing scenarios.

I have altered the Start menu to Win 7 style but that box has worked since.

So I recently updated to Windows 10 on my custom built PC (here's the components in case you want to know: [URL] ....) Anyways I like it, but I'm having a few issues with it. Some have to do with my CPU, but the main thing is that Windows Explorer is being very annoying. I almost always put my computer to sleep as opposed to shutting it down because I have a slow HDD.
However, after I put my PC to sleep once or twice I can't click on the Windows button or the "Search the web and Windows button", which means I can't open any applications that aren't on my desktop. It's pretty annoying. If I try to restart Windows Explorer in Task Manager, it never fully restarts. I just get a black screen and the task bar, which still doesn't work. I've had to switch the power button on my computer's task to putting the PC to sleep instead of shutting it down because I can't put my computer to sleep the normal way.
