There are certain sound inputs that I do not wish to use.So, I disable them. However, when I reboot my computer all of them are active again. How can I make them permanently inactive?

One monitor on desk and a long HDMI cable to a HDTV, the displays are set to duplicate (mirror) Thinking of adding a second monitor on my desk for dual display when working, probably in extend desktop mode. Does Windows have an easy mechanism to quickly choose which 2 displays are active?
I know Win Key + P allows me to quickly choose how to manage 2 displays. Is there a similar way to quickly choose which 2 of 3 displays are active?
FYI: GPU is a R9 270x
Since upgrading to win 10, I am having problems with sound not being permanent. Don't quite know how to approach it. This is VIA HD audio on an ECS motherboard. The icon on the taskbar shows that sound is on, and at 75%. But when I test it, there is no sound coming through the speakers. So I uninstall the driver, I scan for hardware changes; it reinstalls itself. Then I check the configuration, it's set to headphones as default. I change it to speakers, test the sound, and it works. Now when I restart my system for some reason, the sound is gone again, and I need to go through the same routine. I have downloaded the specific driver for VIA HD (they only have a driver for Win 8), installed it, and it doesn't work at reboot. make my driver more permanent, so that it's not lost at reboot?
View 2 RepliesSo, just installed Windows 10 and things seem to be doing pretty good but the computer is in bad need of a reset still. Following the recommendation of Microsoft, I've gone ahead and installed Windows 10 and am now ready to proceed. I pull up the boot menu, select reset and to remove all files and the computer boots up as normal. Then, it comes up with a screen asking if I just want to clean out my main driver or all drives. The problem is there is no mouse, I can't select it. I've hit all the keys on the keyboard I could think of (F keys, number keys, arrow keys and enter) to no avail. And thus, I had to abort and come back here. Why my mouse is not working then? It's working now so it doesn't seem to be an issue with it.
View 5 RepliesI just currently started having this issue. My computer runs completely fine. However I applied recent windows 10 upgrades and I for some reason had to restart I cant remember why. However after the initial restart the computer simply stayed on and didn't initiate boot. I then turned off the computer and turned it back on. It boots fine, no problems. However if I set the computer to restart from the start menu it will but it wont boot back. It will just stay on and make a louder fan noise but wont reboot?

I've installed google chrome office 365 and downloaded documents but when it sleeps or when i've restarted the computer everything "saved" is gone. I have installed a new PSU already that seems to stabilizes win 8.1. I can't seem to get win 10 download from shutdown my pc from finishing the download.
View 1 RepliesSo today I tried to update to windows 10 from windows 7 through the "get windows 10" app on my desktop. Everything went well until reboots started. When my computer attempted to reboot it stuck at start up screen where you are supposed to either go to boot menu by pressing f12 or let your system boot like it should.
View 1 RepliesI have a scanner radio that I input to the desktop pc via a USB Port. Then the pc outputs it on the Green audio jack to a pair of desktop speakers. Works fine.
Now let's say I have another radio output which is inputted to the pc via the pc Line In Audio jack (Blue).
How can I switch between them to the speakers ? Both come up on the Speaker Icon in the bottom task tray as being enabled, but not sure how to switch which one (only) actually goes to the desktop speakers (if both radios are working).
I'm having a problem with the HDMI audio when switching inputs on my monitor. With my last OS i was able to switch between the HDMI inputs and both devices would have audio. Now, PC only has audio when the computer is started up, but when inputs are switched and switched back, i no longer have PC audio.
View 1 RepliesI have a few bluetooth headsets (the little mono in-ear ones) that I used with Win7 for Skype calls. Now I have Win10 & went to use one for the first time today. The device is found, added, & connected OK, but the only 'Service' available is 'Handsfree telephony'. There was another one under Win7, 'Headset' I think.
None of them show up in as an input or output in Skype options, nor are they listed under 'Audio Inputs and Outputs' in device manager.
The devices themselves haven't changed their capabilities, so is Win10 using some generic BT headset driver that doesn't provide the audio service? Is there some way of switching it on?
I have been using BitLocker for a long time now and in conjunction with Windows 10 for 3 months and today something weird happened. When I tried to insert my password at boot, when I pressed the Shift key in combination with any other key, it inserted tens of characters at once. Valid with any character I press while Shift is also pressed. I tried a different keyboard, same result. I removed Bitlocker and reinstalled it, same result. Reboots, etc. I tried it all.
Now the only way to input the password is to press Insert so I can see the characters, press CapsLock for the capital letters and delete all the additional 30+ characters that appear when shift is pressed.
I'm having a problem when I'm on my computer programming or playing a game, my system just shuts down by its self , and when I have closed all windows, its fine all day. Like I will be playing a online game and if anything is open it works for like 5 minutes then it just goes off, no sounds or any beeps, just goes off, I have just got a video card its a GT740 and I just got more ram witch I got at the same time and I installed it so now I have a better video card and 16gb of ram, would the video card not be setup right or its bad ram, This just started when I got the video card and the ram about a week then it started this, I don't know what to do about this, I'm running windows 10 64bit.. I forgot to say that the cpu is 3.50GHz ....
View 2 RepliesFrom time to time I do not get sound from my computer or even through an ear phone/connected external speakers.
But sound can be heard from a connected TV through HDMI, if from playback devices I chose the TV as default.
On re-starting the computer the problem gets solved- but re occurs after a few days.
I'm having a myriad of issues after upgrading to Windows 10. I'll list them below along with what i've already done to resolve:
- Computer won't shut down.
Someone told me to disable something with the Gigabyte process on the Motherboard, didn't work. I click on shut down and the computer restarts instead.
- No sound except EXTREMELY low sound on headphones.
I've already tried installing the Windows 10 Realtek HD drivers but nothing seems to work. Eventually I somehow got the headphones to play sounds but is is incredibly low even fully maxed out. All devices show that they are "working" correctly. Also, when I test it, I can see the green bar moving as if sound is playing, but no sound in any speakers / headphones I hook to the computer comes out.
- Less important issue but the "search" bar in the bottom doesnt ever return any results, ever. It just sits there indefinitely.
For a while now, I have had problems with Windows 10 every now and then where all of a sudden my computer will freeze for seemingly no reason.
Previously I posted this forum thinking it was my NVIDIA divers (because I didn't actually need them). BUT, today my computer froze again, and I have noticed something odd but common with all the times it has frozen. Allow me to explain:
I was on Facebook today searching through as you do, and my small (not smart) phone started ringing. As always, my acer speakers pick up this signal for some reason and start buzzing. I turn my speakers off and answer my phone, walking away from the computer. After about 5 mins, I come back to find my computer frozen.
This interaction with speakers seems to be common in the freezing of my computer. I can recall other times answering a call and coming back to find my computer frozen. Also, if I am watching a youtube video, and my computer freezes whilst the speakers are on, the speakers will make a loud noise (this hasn't happened so recently, can't quite remember noise to describe).
This MIGHT be the cause, however, this is still unknown, if even linked! This sound problem may even be linked with my previous NVIDIA problems (which I thought were causing this freezing) as on previous thread.
So after my problems with my Altec Lansing speakers (detailed on another thread) I decided to bite the bullet and just buy new speakers. Except that now there is a problem with that too.
I have a HDMI cable attached to my laptop so that I can use my TV as a second monitor. That's fine and dandy, except that the sound only comes out from my TV, not from my laptop speakers or my new speakers. I've tried to use Windows settings to adjust things but there doesn't seem to be any such option.
On my last computer all I had to do was plug and play, so I'm not sure why this is happening. It's quite a hassle because when the HDMI cable is attached, all my sound comes from the TV.
I updated my computer to windows 10. when I upgraded and played audio, video on local computer or on any website. I could not hear music/ sound. when I play audio file through Windows Media Player, I get following error.
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly."
And when I play audio file using Groove Music. Can't play. We can' find an audio device for your PC Make sure headphones aor speakers are connected. For more infor search your PC for "Manage audio device".

When I go to manage audio device. I play test tone. and get message box saying that "failed to play test tone".
Just got Win 10 and if I have many windows open there is no distinction between which are active and which aren't. Before the active window would have a colored toolbar at the top while the inactive windows would be colorless or white. I've went into settings, personalization and color...turned the first one off and the other two on then selected yellow but still the active windows aren't getting the yellow across the top to show they are active.

Also, I am unable to change my Network Location from Public to Private as there is no link on the Home-group page. I upgraded from Win 8.1 to Win 10 and already updated wifi drivers.
View 2 RepliesI have upgraded three different machines to Windows 10 in the past month, and all three (two desktops and a laptop) have the same problem. I can't open the dialogue window for screen saver settings. When I click the settings link in "personalization", nothing happens. (It's not grayed out, it just doesn't do anything.) I can try to run it from a Cortana search, and nothing happens. I can try to run a CMD line commend, and nothing happens.
This isn't a problem with USB peripherals; I have nothing plugged into the desktops other than a keyboard and mouse. Nothing at all plugged into the laptop. I don't have gaming apps or flight simulators or anything else running. These are very clean systems that were running flawlessly until the Windows 10 upgrade. And the SS problem started immediately after the upgrades.
I am using Windows 10. Am having problem with Active Windows changed to other window automatically. For eg. Lets say am using Microsoft Word and Micro Excel and I am working on Microsoft Word. Then suddenly application changes itself to excel.
I then have to press alt+tab or mouse to change application again. It's bloody annoying. Just writing this much small threat, 3 time active windows changed. So practically it is impossible to type long letters or any typing work.
Also am browsing and reading something and then windows changed automatically. it's bloody annoying.
Also if suppose there is only 1 active window, for eg word then it tried to change itself to desktop but since word is in full screen format, word kept open itself but become non-active. So suppose am typing anything then nothing will type and i have to retype everything again.
Sony VAIO AIO model SVL241290X, Core i7, 2Tb HDD 64 bit, started doing a startup/shutdown constantly (not exactly a loop) never getting to POST or Welcome screen for Windows 10. It started doing it when I hooked up an old HDD to move files from it to the VAIO which had been in a machine that did the same thing. Thought it was a bad motherboard on the old PC, but now I think it's a virus. Whenever I power the VAIO down by pressing/holding the power button, and starting it up again, it just resumes with HDD activity but never shows anything on the monitor.
Even the VAIO Assist button doesn't work. Also can't get to BIOS or Safe Mode. Sounds like a virus - maybe a rootkit MBR virus? Right now I can't do anything with this machine. Normal troubleshooting does not work. I don't have any restore discs or bootable recovery discs, although I am creating a copy of Windows 10 on USB drive with Microsoft's Media Creation Tool. But, without being able to designate the USB port to look at first in BIOS, that won't work either. Most important things are backed up, but I have a few things I would not like to lose.
New Windows 10 user migrating (returning) from OSX.
So far only two issues found on 10130:
Orange active window border: I have this horrible orange colour around the active window. I have changed all the colour settings but both seems to change the active window border.. how to get rid of it. It is really obvious on Firefox for instance with a thicker part at the top tabs section and thinner elsewhere.
TaskBar locking: Occasionally the taskbar will lock and not autohide - even though there are no alerts. Need to sleep/retart to get the autohide to work again...
Some of the Windows 10 GUI changes ARE SO STUPID. E.g.: why is there no more clear distinction between the currently active window (the one that has keyboard focus) and the others? Previous versions highlighted the active windows by giving its border and title bar a distinct color. Not so in Windows 10! I am constantly asking myself which window is the currently active now.
Is there any way to get the mentioned behavior back?
My system upgrade to windows 10 from 7. But my system encounter a auto login last active user problem.
