I reset my PC and it booted to Auto-Repair. It said i needed recovery media, but i was able to boot back to Windows through looking at the BIOS firmware then telling it to boot to the primary HDD. I got back to Windows but now i am paranoid next time i boot i won't be so lucky. I have created a recovery disk, but my data may get lost. I have 1.5TB of valuable files on my PC.
View 1 RepliesObviously I can't click on anything or type anything because the loop is constant. I've been reading forums etc for the past couple of days for a fix for this Automatic Repair loop..nothing that would work and I notice many others the past year also never found a solution.
I burned on a dvd a Windows 10 bootup thing- as suggested by someone. That doesn't stop the loop either- and yes, I did get to the page via F12 that allows to change it to boot from the DVD etc.
I am having a scary situation with my wife's notebook (which keeps our family photos) after installing Windows 10.
Her notebook is an ASUS G53JQ-A1 and the installation went through fine, except for the graphics card. The logos on screen were enormous and the resolution could not be improved through the menus.
On the Device Manager, the GPU was not even listed. The notebook was running the on-board GPU, which explains the bad resolution. Anyways, I, then, proceeded to the NVIDIA website and downloaded the latest driver, already compatible with Windows 10: [URL] ....
After the installation was complete, I had a black screen after the short boot and Asus logo. No mouse cursor.
Since nothing happened, after 15 minutes I force-restarted the notebook, only to have it go to the same black screen again. This went on for 30 mins, so I tried to hit F8 with no results.
Then the Auto Repair kicked in, but none of the options (short of REMOVE EVERYTHING) have worked so far. I will list everithing I have tried so far:
1. Reset this PC --> Keep my files
2. Advanced Options --> System Restore
3. Advanced Options --> System Image Recovery
4. Advanced Options --> Startup Repair
5. Advanced Options --> Startup Settings (just goes back to the Auto Repair main menu after a boot)
6. Advanced Options --> Go Back to Previous Build
The command prompt does open fine, but I have no clue as to what should I do there.
My questions are:
1. How do I get out of this situation without formatting the PC?
2. Is it possible that there was a conflict between the GPU driver (and all the auto-update and performance software that come along with the driver)?
OS - Windows 10 (64 Bit)
RAM - 8gb
CPU - Intel Core i5 3.3Ghz
Vid Card - Nvidia GeForce GTX 570
Yesterday I had deleted a Word document by mistake, so I used System Restore to try and get it back. System Restore told me NOT to turn off the PC whilst it was running, and next thing I know after it got halfway through my PC blue screened and I had to restart. Now every time I load up the PC it does the following...
It loads up to the Windows 10 icon > After a few seconds it says 'Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart' with the error code 0xc000021a > It then restarts itself but THIS time it tries to start Windows Automatic Repair instead > It then says 'Automatic Repair couldn't repair your PC', and gives me the option to click Restart or Advanced Options. This is where I'm having the most trouble, as the mouse and keyboard don't seem to be working at all on this screen so I can't even click any of the options. It's like the screen has frozen/crashed > The only way off this is to then force a restart using the power button on the PC.
The above just keeps carrying on in a loop every time I turn on the PC now. I still have access to the BIOS where my mouse and keyboard DO work.
My friend's 2 day old Toshiba laptop started giving System Thread Exception Not Handled error, and went into a rebooting loop. I researched this on the web, but none of the usual fixes for this issue would work.
I decided to do a Reset, told it not to save any files.
It did the reset, counting up from 1% to 100% over the course of about 30 minutes, then went to a screen that said "scanning and repairing errors". That took about 15 minutes.
After the scanning and repairing, it went to a 3rd screen that only said "Installing Windows Your PC will restart several times". With a large percent counter in the middle that sat at 1% for about 10 minutes, then went to 2% and is sitting there right now, for about 5 minutes. Now it has moved up to 6%, been at that for about 5 minutes now. Below that in small letters it says "installing features and drivers" This seems odd because I thought it was doing that in the first step.
When I've reset computers in the past (those were Win 8) all I remember it doing was the first of these 3 steps, and then it rebooted and was done. Is this behavior normal in Win 10 or is there a problem here that we should consider returning this computer?
My question is, does the Windows 10 option to "reset and keep files" repair everything, including any broken registry things that I might have screwed up? I'm not that experienced with this, so could be a silly question.
Some background info: my computer was basically functioning normally, except for some kind of minor issues (slow downs, occasional program crashes, etc) and warnings that kept popping up in my event viewer yet I didn't really "see" the effects of most of them in everyday computer use (I'm an amateur though). This was not virus or malware related, I don't think. (I ran numerous virus scans and also used virus/malware removal, even though it didn't appear I had any, plus I have Avast and MBAM always on my computer.)
So I'm wondering if I probably screwed up the registry because I stupidly used CCleaner's registry clean-up a couple times, and have since learned I should never touch that.
I ran the Dell diagnostics to make sure it wasn't a hardware issue, by the way, and that all passed.
I had Windows 7 and did the upgrade to Windows 10. I just decided to do Windows 10's option to "reset and keep files" to do a clean install to see if that fixes these things. So I'm wondering if the registry is repaired with that kind of reset? And if it never was the registry that was the problem, will the other potential causes be repaired as well? Just want to make sure I made the right choice to reset.
So I was having a problem with my laptop stuck in a "Diagnosing Your PC" loop and then it would say, "Bad_system_config_info", and start the loop over again.
So I booted from a Windows 10 USB to repair/reset it with the "Keep My Files" option. Since then, it's just been stuck on a blank blue screen for the last 20 minutes.
Is this part of the reset process or did something go wrong?
My desktop PC has randomly booted up on it's own. Also, I noticed yesterday that it kept waking up from sleep on it's own.
Is there anything we can do about this.
I've dual booted win10 with 8.1, I decided to delete win10 and make a clean install of the latest build, I went to Disk management and I found many partition more than it was before installing win10 in the first place.
These partitions are for restoring, how to manage them? how can I know which are for win8? and which are for win10?
Build 10074 was more stable, so I'm not installing it on my VAIO.
what about you is it stable?
I have two Windows 10 installations on my PC. Primary and temp. The primary installation cannot boot with error "The boot configuration data file is missing some required information ".
This happened aftter I wiped out another third disk which was the PC's original disk and apparently kept some boot info.
I have a USB boot disk but that does not see my Primary Windows 10 installation because the drive is running a 950 pro m.2 ssd which there is no drivers for when booted in the USB.
So there is no way that I know of, to use the USB and run a boot repair option on Primary installation.
The other Temp installation can boot into windows 10 and it does see my Primary installation's partition ... but how do I repair Primary while booted in Temp ?
It is a UEFI pc.
My computer won't go into sleep mode if it's been on for a while. It will go into sleep mode if it's freshly booted. Whenever I check, powercfg -requests is clear. Currently, powercfg -requestsoverride shows process: chrome.exe display system awaymode, driver: filesystemsrvnet system. When it won't go into sleep mode, it won't even automatically turn off the monitor. My settings are set to allow sleep.
Ideally I would like a fix for this, but I would also be okay with some kind of program that puts my computer into sleep mode after 30 minutes. I used to have such a program a long time ago, but I have forgotten the name of it, and googling 'sleep timer' just shows sleep mode tutorials. Googling 'powercfg requests is clear but computer won't go into sleep mode' hasn't been particularly useful, either.
I did a bit of research and this seems to have been an issue for a while, or has been in the past. Was upgrading to windows 10, I first had to restart my pc cause it was initially stuck on that preparing to install problem with the green bar being stuck around 25%.
It then got through that and began the installation process with the big circle and rebooting process. However around 91% when I last looked at it it was just black screen, this stayed this way for about 3-4 hours. I then decided to reboot the pc and it has now booted to the login screen. Is this a known bug or could there be a possible issue?
The problem seems a bit different as some people I saw have had to fall back on PC restore points etc. So not sure if it installed or what could be the problem.
Also side note, I upgraded my pc when windows 10 first publically released, but rolled back because I had about 5min shutdown times.
I'm trying to resolve an issue with a Windows 10 desktop, HP small form factor purchased with OEM Win 7. Windows Update suggested Windows 10 and now the machine boots to the automatic repair screen but there is no mouse or keyboard function where the option panes appear.
While I did purchase the computer myself originally, it was purchased for the use of my church group, and two weeks ago came under the care of my co-deacon and friend. So, let's just say there is no recovery media now for Win 7 or Win 10. I can create a recovery disk here at home from one of my local Win 7 systems, but not sure if that will work or not.
I'd be perfectly happy to un-install Win10 from the machine, but there doesn't seem to be a way to get to the recovery partition... all F-key options have been tried.
This is a Core Duo processor.
Very recently, I updated my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, but I wasn't quite convinced, so I decided to switch it back to 8.1.
I followed instructions where I was told to write "shutdown /r /o" inside the CMD to reboot in repair mode. I was also told to close all the programs the laptop was running (which were Firefox, OneNote and Reader), but I forgot that.
In the repair mode, I somehow decided to give Win10 another chance and chose normal startup, but now I get a black screen after booting. Every single time.
I can not install programs or do Windows 10 updates because the Windows 10 Installer is damage. When attempting to install a program or do Windows 10 updates, the installer stops and the progress bar shows no progression of installation. I have the computer during the installation process and come back to the computer an hour later and the progress bar shows no indication of progress of installation. What I can do to try to fix the Windows installer?

View 6 RepliesAlthough, the upgrade this morning initially was successful - it did reboot into Windows 10. When I restarted the machine, it's now stuck in the setup repair loop. None of the options seem to work, even if I try and have it reinstall windows while keeping my files, it still restarts and goes back to the setup repair. I really don't want to do a clean install as I didn't make a backup of my files (which I will always do from now on).
View 1 RepliesI found my laptop was stuck in some loop, it wasn't able to boot up and offered me to automatically repair it, however it doesn't solve anything and I've tried doing a full system reset to it however the same problem occurs still, it just doesn't boot and offers to restart and try to repair again or more options. I have tried different commands such as the SFC, CHKDSK, but got no where.
Laptop is Windows 10, Asus k501-U, i7 6500u, 12gb Ram, HDD 1tb + 16 gb SSD ...
When I do start up repair I got this message a few times: 'Start up repair couldn't repair your PC...

And when you do CHKDSK (I think) end error message is 'Failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50'.
Having trouble with my computer put in a sd card and an error said directory not vaild so after some looking online it said to run sfc so did that but it did not fix some errors. Upgraded from Win7 my computer is custom built...

Yesterday i was using my PC and then the task bar disappeared so i decided to restart the computer to try and fix it. When the computer turned on again it went through the normal startup process but when it got to the windows logo it said preparing automatic install and then kept looping through startup and the windows logo. I have tried doing the system repair but when I press F8 nothing happens, so right now all i can do on the computer now is access the BIOS.

Few days ago after turning my PC on, I had a message Starting Windows Repair, after some time it shows me the same screen with text - Diagnosing your PC. Then after having a black background, a light blue screen appears with error 'Your PC did not start correctly', it gives me options to restart it again or to open on Advanced options. There are so many of them, I tried all except the one with Restarting PC and deleting files, all the others, including Safe Mode won't work. I am stuck now here and can't use my PC.
View 9 RepliesYesterday my computer started up the automatic repair service when i turned it on. It attempts to diagnose the problem and fails. I've run chkdsk on both the boot and regular partitions of my install drive. I tried to repair using an install disk but it says it cant because my install drive is locked. I also tried resetting from within the recovery environment. When I did it got to 8% and then said it couldn't reset the os as it encounter a problem during the reset. I'm running Windows 10 off an SSD.
