View 3 RepliesIn Settings > Network & Internet > Data Usage : data usage is monitored this day to one month back , this is entirely useless since usually people try to monitor their usage since last bill , windows 8.1 allowed resetting of counter in any specific day so the counter can report useful data you can use , through researching and an earlier post I got the understanding that this is the new vision of Microsoft of how Data Usage should work..
Now the question , for sure Data usage must be using some registry key to constantly store data usage per day to achieve this trick of collecting data use over a month , so resetting should be as easy as deleting that key and allowing it rebuild from that point forward , so what is the path to that key or went the extra mile and did the reg file to delete it ?
Where can I view data usage in WIndows 10?

View 9 Replieson a no-problem notebook of a Relative, win ran an update last night at 4 and came up with this:Most App-Links are gone, Apps still there. But Firefox, Outlook and others seem completely reset as if freshly installed, no accounts set f.e.Win demands hardware driver installation for Wifi. And a bunch of personal files on the Desktop are gone.
View 1 RepliesI upgraded to Windows 10 a few months ago. Immediately I began experiencing very long start times (~5 minutes). I resolved the start time issues by doing a clean install and erasing all programs/files on my PC. After that, the 100% disk usage issues continued. I have disabled Windows tips, disabled SuperFetch & PreFetch, and attempted to monitor exactly what is causing this without success. Looking through solutions, it seems that I have gone through all suggested actions yet the issue persists. My PC can be booted for an hour with only Edge running and yet disk usage continues at 100%. Running on 8.1, I never experienced any slow start times or any slow usage.

I upgraded to Windows and to my horror after it was Downloaded all my data disappear. Been working on a family book all previous version that I referred to gone. All my photos gone.
My only consolation I had backed up a version of my book on a sub key. Photos though gone. People do not upgrade. How could they play with people like that.
I had files saved in the 'guest' profile on the old OS, and since Windows 10, the guest account seems to have dissappeared? There are photos saved on the old guest profile that I would like to access.
Surely, Windows would have asked about deleting files?
My hard drive shows 20 more GB of space but everything is gone that I used or saved on the computer. I did not back up everything since the info I read said I would not loose this information.
Is there any way to retrieve it or roll back the hard drive to Windows 7 and retrieve the data I lost?
I've upgraded from win 8.1 to 10. after upgrade all my files were in local disk user and in the folders but were not in library folders e.g pics were in local disk user pictures but not in file explorer pictures. so i moved every thing to the folders and after restarting my laptop everything was gone... what can i do to recover my data.
View 1 RepliesI just upgraded to TH2 from Win 10 Pro. I noticed that my disk usage is near 99% for the past 20 mins. It keeps fluctuatiing between 10 to 99. Normally my disk usage stays at 0. May be this might be Windows settling in after the upgrade? There was high disk usage the first time around when i upgraded from Win7.

View 4 RepliesAfter upgrade from W81 to W10, I have occasional Notepad, Thunderbird email, and PhotoPhilia crashes, no data saved. Occasionally the task does not crash but does disappear from the task bar (visible from Task Manager) though I can't get back into it.
I have not upgraded any of these products. I'd have assumed that Notepad, at least, would be current. I don't know how to find which build I am on.
I have tried and tried to upgrade from WIN 8.1 to 10 with no success.
The error that comes up is "0x80070004 - 0x4000D The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during MIGRATE_DATA operation."

I have a small laptop running Windows 8 that I'd like to give to a friend after I install Windows 10. If I do a factory reset to remove all my stuff, will it retain Windows 10 or will it revert back to 8?

View 1 RepliesLast night I finally decided to backup all of my files on my Windows 7 desktop machine and wanted to do a clean install of Windows 10 (I had been wanting to reformat for a while, this seemed like a good time to do it). I noticed after starting the free activation of Windows 10 (through Windows Update) that it would only update to Windows 10, so I let it proceed.Once 10 finished and booted up, everything was great. At this point, I went into settings and chose to Reset this PC, and made sure to select only to remove files - not fully clean the drive.
After being stuck at only 2% for 4 hours, I decided to give up on the reset completing. I turned off my desktop, and then downloaded the Windows program that creates the installation on a USB drive from my laptop. Once completed I inserted the USB drive into my desktop and installed Windows 10 as a clean install without any issues. After all of this, I cannot activate my Windows 10. Is my only option to use my old Windows 7 installation/key to do another clean install, then go through the Windows 10 update again?
Laptop has been upgraded to windows 10 and now can't get in! how to reset the password?
View 1 RepliesI upgraded my Asus X205TA to Windows 10. However I wanted get a clean install so I went into recovery and chose to reset the PC and clean all apps, files, etc.
Whenever I try this it fails then gives me a blue screen with options. Only booting back to Win10 only works.
Is there a way I can get my win10 key and install from a win 10 download?
I did go back to Windows Download tool and had it create a USB stick. Can I use this to do a clean install?
I don't want to move on unless I know I can get Win 10 installed on this again. I know once I erase everythign my there is no option to go back to Win 8.1.
Isn't the page file supposed to fill up when your system starts running out of RAM? I know there's some preemptive paging, but I'm at 99% even though my RAM usage is 40% (of 8GBs). How come?
View 1 RepliesMy laptop was recently broken beyond repair recently and I am looking to recover the data from the HD.
The laptop was an Acer Aspire S7-392 with a 256GB mSATA SSD by Kingston.
The operating system on the HD was Windows 10 (I upgraded from Windows 8.1 just before I broke the laptop).
I have removed the HD and put it in a mSATA to USB3 enclosure.
When I plugged the External enclosure with the hard drive into another PC running Windows 10 it said that the HD could not be recognised and offered me the option to format it.
This is where the extent of my knowledge runs out and I am at a loss with how to proceed with recovering my photos etc from the HD.
So I have a 120Gb SSD running Windows 7, and a 1Tb HDD with all my data such as programs and games. When Windows 10 is released, I want to be able to completely replace my Windows 7 with Windows 10, so basically just wipe the SSD and then install Windows 10 (or upgrade). My question, is will the data on my other hard drive just work like it does now?
Once I've upgraded to Windows 10, will it literally just still work? I don't want to have to reinstall all my programs, or start all my games again (the ones with locally installed data). Also, I do have a couple of programs stored on my SSD that would obviously need to be moved to my HDD to avoid being removed when I wipe it, so can I just move the whole install directory? Or is it more complicated?
i have recently installed win10 and after a few days i have noticed that it uses all my memory(8gb) in the following scenario:
i let the computer overnight watching a stream and an online radio station.the next morning i have noticed that the computer was a little bit laggy, ind i opened task manager where it showed 97% memory usage. The funny fact is if i added up alll the provcesses memory usage und it was about 1.2 gb ram
PC specs:
i7 - 4770k proc
gtx 970 video
8 gb hyperX red memory
I've calculated that my apps use arround 538MB(1%) ram i have 6GB ram and the task manager is showing almost constantly that around 35% is used. What windows processes can i stop to reduce the ram usage - these are pics from the task manager. URL...
View 1 RepliesFor some reason whenever I open Task manager it says that 100% of my Disk is used, this can be even if all the processes add up to like 2mb or if avast! is running and using 50mb. It will say 100% Disk Usage either way.I sent my HDD back to DinoPC.com a few months ago and they said nothing was wrong with it.
