View 1 RepliesMy taskbar shows that I can "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media". I don't have anything plugged in. Selecting the message tells me that I can "Eject Nvidia GTX 970". Wouldn't that be odd? It's the friggin' video card! I'm partly ready to select that option, just to see what the computer would do. Oh, that's right: without a video card, I wouldn't be able to see what the computer is doing..Why does Windows 10 think that my PCIe card, the only one that's been in this machine, the one that's been there BEFORE W10 came along, why does W10 want to eject my card?
View 3 RepliesEven without any flash drives connected to my PC, it still displays this. Didn't happen when I was back in Windows 7.
View 9 RepliesI'm about to build my first desktop, and I have a laptop with Windows 10 (upgraded from 7 which it came with). I don't plan on using the laptop anymore, so is it possible to install the laptop's hard drive into the desktop then move the Windows install to an SSD? If not, should I just buy a Win10 key or would it be possible to contact Microsoft about transferring the OS over?
View 1 RepliesSecond PC with Win 7 Pro 32 bit was a struggle...but succeeded in Brinks clean install and activation of 10...but was a real struggle.
Now...how can I transfer the new 10 install on an HDD to a new Sata SSD in the same box ? So far haven't figured out how to make the SSD with an installed image of the new 10 install from HDD to boot from the Sata at PC startup ?
What am I doing wrong...and how do I get the SSD image of my new 10 clean install to boot from the SSD ?
I think it has to do with partitions and active Windows partition but don't remember what/how to change the boot disk to the new SSD....
I'm currently on a 1TB HDD (roughly 700GB used) and recently picked up a 120GB SSD for the OS and whatever game I am playing at the time. I've gotten mixed messages regarding the most efficient method to do this. I'm just thinking of creating an usb installer of Windows 10 and just installing it straight to the SSD and then deleting the windows files from the HDD.
Is there a simple way to move my windows install to the SSD? I can't clone my HDD since it is much larger then my SSD and I don't have enough storage to move enough data off of the HDD to get that down under 120GB.
I know it's not possible to move/install metro apps on sd card in win 8.1 but i want to know if it possible in win 10 insider preview. If yes, do i have to move them manually or can i assign the sd card as default install location.
View 2 RepliesWhen I first installed windows 10 pro. I used Microsoft's create install media tool and saved to USB. Now as we are regularly getting cumulative updates from Microsoft does the install media get updated as well?
I mean if I re create the install media Windows 10 would it have all the cumulative updates in it?
I am trying to do a clean install of Windows 10 for my surface pro using usb media. However, I can't find a way to make the surface pro boot from usb. I actually don't know how to access bios or anything on it. How I go about doing a clean install of windows 10 for surface pro?
View 9 RepliesI cant see this mentioned, but it has been available for about 7 weeks as an unofficial installation...
View 9 RepliesIn July I downloaded the Media Creation tool and created an USB version of the 29th release. I then used it to upgrade 2 pcs successfully. Now, I think I want to do a 'clean install' on a new ssd on another machine. Can I to I clean install with that USB? Seems to me I would have to have a product key or something like that to do an install on the blank ssd. If so where would I get one?
View 5 RepliesI did an update a week ago and after that Windows 10 will boot to black screen without cursor.
When booting I get sometimes "Automatic repairs", I see the initial logo. After some minutes the screen goes back and that's it.
When I try to boot from an USB the same happens - I cannot get even to re-install Windows. The USB works on another PC just fine.
I booted from Linux and deleted the hiberfil.sys file, checked all the partitions of the disk (in this case SSD) with GParted- no issues.
I really don't know how to get even to the advanced options and try to reset or run command prompt.
I plan on doing a clean install. My question is do I still need to upgrade to windows 10 first or can I just enter the windows 7 key during the clean install of windows 10?
View 9 RepliesI'm a student and my university has a subscription to Dreamspark, so I got a Win10 key, along with an ISO-file from there. I'm using a Lenovo G700 and trying to perform a clean install from a bootable USB-stick.
I have tried creating this USB-stick with the "Win7 USB DVD Download Tool", using different guides from the internet with NTFS and Fat32 filesystem, launching the setup normally and through UEFI, using the "Media Creation Tool" ([URL]) to create the USB-stick directly and downloading the ISO file first and creating a bootable USB-stick from that with all the methods above, but no matter which of these methods I use, I get the following error during installation:
"A media driver your computer needs is missing." (URL)
Unfortunatley, I am currently running Win7 Pro x64 on my laptop and the following page says, that the upgrade to Win10 only works from Win8.1, not Win7: [URL]
When I try to use the "Media Creation Tool" to instantly perform an upgrade, I get the following error:
"Something happened... 0x80070422 - 0x90016"
What drivers could the installation possibly be missing? I don't have any external devices plugged in, except for the bootable USB-stick, of course. I tried downloading all drivers for Win7 x64 and Win10 x64 from the Lenovo page ([URL])
I am currently running Win7 Ultimate service pack 1 and am trying to create an installation of Win10 on a flash drive before I replace some parts inside my PC that will require an OS refresh. Unfortunately I am stuck at this screen.
I am sure my OS version is activated and I have extracted my windows key via Magical Jelly Bean finder but it rejected that key.
P.S. any PC stats linked to this account are a different piece of hardware
I have upgraded to Windows 10 and it's activated. Now I want to do a clean install using the "media creation tool", but I'm not sure if it's going to affect my C drive only or all the partitions. And also, should I just reset the PC from the recovery option in the settings?
View 2 RepliesThere is no icon in the hidden icons area in Windows 10 that allows one to safely eject an SD drive. I have an SD drive inserted in my computer and have uploaded the files I want to upload and now I want to remove the SD card without corrupting or destroying the files on it. How does one do this safely?
View 4 RepliesWindows 10 OS using NVidia graphics and Realtek sound. This morning after a windows update ran , I have no sound. Troubleshooting shows that a solution maybe to reinstall 2 drivers from Realtek and NVidia. I tried the Auto fix solution but problem persists. On the Device Manager it is showing an orange warning triangle on both drivers, saying reinstall. Code 18. As I said the Auto update install does not rectify the problemCan I safely uninstall the drivers ? And then how do I reinstall them ?
View 4 RepliesI'm using an Intel Compute Stick as a dedicated processor to remote-control some portable audio equipment. To assist portability, the power supplies for all the gear are to a single plug and it's all made to be turned off by simply "pulling the plug" (i.e. no shutdown process). The Compute Stick basically being a fully functional Windows 10 device, it is NOT made to be powered down by simply "pulling the plug."
It's somewhat annoying to have to reach in the rack to power up/down the Stick before I can move it, doubly annoying to have to sit there and wait for it to shutdown, especially if it *decides* it feels like doing some other kind of business before it gets around to my shutdown request. The annoyance factor is increased as there's no attached screen or HIDs to give confirmation that the shutdown request is pending.
So, my question is this: Is there any way to configure the Stick PC in a way that ensures it avoids the adverse effects of being powered down without a shutdown sequence?
Recently I am notice Media Player is crashing while Groove cannot even find a single media file out of 100GB music. Audacious stupid Groove asks: "My dear please tell me where to search for your lovely music files?", but then turns over and goes to sleep. Very disappointing. Now I cannot play any music neither by Media Player nor Groove.
View 1 RepliesI have set my external hard drives to performance mode, and recognize the warning that I won't be able to simply unplug them. Basically, I have to use the little green safely remove hardware icon. Nothing new. In Windows 10 however, when an external drive is attached, and I go to eject it using the safely remove hardware, they are always grayed out and I'm unable to do so. Is there another setting I need to do, or is Windows 10 saying that even with the performance boxes checked, I can still remove drives without "safely removing them."
View 1 RepliesMy account is 'Lenovo' all the others i never use, they're all empty.
I noticed the folders 'default.migrated' and 'UpdatusUser', i've never seen them before how do i remove them?
I'd also like to remove public and the hidden 'default' folder if it's possible?
Is it normal for it to say 'windows 8' when i have 10 installed?
Since going to Windows 10 my caps lock notification does not appear. I found this feature very useful and would like it back
View 2 RepliesI've only noticed it 'missing' in the last few days. How to get it back?
View 1 RepliesI have created Eject "N", etc for each drive letter from G-Z and they all work. They will safely remove my external HDDs. I have also created a context menu entry for Safely Remove > and it has a string value for subcommands, none of which will show when hovered upon. I need to move all of my Eject entries under the Safely Remove in order to keep my context menu clutter free.how to do this?
View 3 RepliesIn recent weeks, it has become impossible for me to safely remove my external drives. (Mostly, I use Western Digital Passports, Passport Ultras, etc).
I am using Windows 10.
I close all of my programs and folders. I get the "busy" message and to try again later. I run Unlocker on the drives, and Unlocker shows no activity or actions that I can take. I bring up my task manager and nothing is running. I try to safely eject from the WD utility and it doesn't work. I try to eject by going to my computer, right clicking on the drive, and ejecting from there. Sometimes I simply wait for half an hour, read some articles, try again. I get the same "busy" or can't shut down message.
I read online that I could try to Device Manager, click on the drive, and under policies select "Optimize for Performance." However, the computer must restart for changes to take place, and when i've tried, I get stuck on an infinite "Restarting" screen.
I read somewhere that I can try to empty a hidden recycle bin on my external, but I can't seem to reveal it?
