I recently did the Windows 10 upgrade. Previously, my speakers worked fine. Now, they won't work at all. My monitor has speakers, and they do work when I select the monitor. However, Windows is telling me that my desktop speakers are not plugged in. That's not true of course - they are plugged in the same way they always were before, using the 3-colored jacks.
The speakers are basic Logitech speakers - two desktop speakers and a subwoofer. I found the devices on the Logitech support website, and checked for drivers. Logitech says these speakers have no drivers.
if my language settings are USA, then search in Settings works. But if I change the display language to British English, I get the well-known "Search results aren't quite ready yet, but we're working on getting them together".Cortana search works (although I may be prompted to set language when changing language as above).
I have tried to find every case where language settings need to be changed to British English, and downloaded UK language packs and speech. Even when everything I can find is set to UK English, search in Settings fails. However, if I revert to US English, it works.I have read fixes about turning Cortana off and reinstalling apps - but this is usually where both Cortana isn't working and this message appears. This does not seem to apply in my case, and surely it should not be necessary to do that merely to support changing language.
I have an earthlink.net (POP) email account. This is the name I used for my Microsoft or Outlook account. I linked Outlook.com to my earthlink account. Now I have added this one account (earthlink) to my (Android) phone and my Windows 10 tablet (Thinkpad 10).
First problem is that the default account that I use to sign into Windows is my earthlink address but it NEVER syncs in the email client. I had to add a separate (pop) account for it to even retrieve an email when sent.
Second, when I do receive an email it shows up on both my tablet and my phone... for a short time but then disappears but sometimes if phone is off or hasn't synced I don't even get an alert. Even deleted from within the Earthlink web mail.
All these emails sit untouched on the Outlook.com inbox which I'm not able to sync with either phone, tablet or desktop computer.
This had been going on before the upgrade to Windows 10 but now with the deletion its even worse since the upgrade.
I upgraded to Win 10 a week ago and after a long updating session was well pleased with the OS - everything seemed to work normally and much faster than before.
However, a day after the last updates were installed (KB3081449 and KB3081448) my normal screen appeared with a boxed message ; 'Cortana and Start Menu aren't working. We'll try to fix it the next time you sign in. Sign out now'.
Signing back in does not fix the problem. I cannot access the Start Menu or Search box. I still have my normal (Win 7 style) screen that luckily still has my shortcuts and I still have WiFi access. I have to shut down using the power button.
I don't know how to access the installed updates (There appears to be no access via Control Panel) and restore options only allow a 'revert to Win 7' - is there a Restore option available that takes you back a few days?
CRITICAL ERROR - Start Menu and CORTANA aren't working. W'll try to fix it the next time you sign in. SIGN OUT NOW.
I upgraded from WIN 7 SP1 to build 10240 on FAST Track. I did a RECOVERY DRIVE, and after trying to restore from it, I am getting this message - in a loop, can not exit from it. I also find my backup and system image do not work.
When I try to search for specific applications that are installed (and visible) in the Start menu, Cortana (or Search) doesn't find anything. Just web results and settings are shown.
Any way to clear the Cache or reset the search indexing so that everything will be searchable again? Windows 10
I installed windows 10 on my laptop but couldn't activated it. The mail, people and messaging apps don't work. Is this because it isn't activated or because of something with the operating system?
I set my screen to turn off after ten minutes but it doesn't shut off. Today I read somewhere that it could be because I have a USB hub plugged in. Sure enough I unplugged the Hub and my screen shuts down as I have set it up to do. I need what is plugged into my hub and it is a real hassle to reboot my machine when I plug the Hub back in. I have also noticed one more thing and that is that programs that run in the back ground for instance Seti @ Home slows way down since the screen stays on.
so I'm having problems with my audio. Whenever I play a sound it goes straight to my mic, even if my mic isn't plugged in, and my computer thinks my mic is. If I say play a Youtube video, whoever is in Skype can also hear it, and the only way that they can't hear it is if my mic is disabled. I didn't have this problem before upgrading to Windows 10.
So basically my laptop came with 1TB of HDD and right now I am only able to use like 500GB of it, the other 500GB seems to have gone missing and I can't seem to get it back.. I looked online and it told me to go on to disk management etc to try assign it but it doesn't seem to let me.. here are some screenshots..

So as you may have noticed, the one I want to recover is that 383.83GB one but everything is greyed out so I can't format or anything!
Capacitive buttons on my lumia 720 doesn't respond after upgrade to windows 10 latest build. Every functionality was fine with 8.1. Not sure how to get over this issue.
Update - Reverted back to 8.1 and the issue is gone.
Just upgraded to Win 10 this morning, everything was smooth except for one thing: my Logitech Bluetooth keyboard and mouse stopped working. Looks like there's an error with the Broadcom Bluetooth USB driver, which is already the latest and greatest according to Windows, which obviously it ain't. Where to get working drivers? Surprisingly there's nothing about Windows 10 on Broadcom's site??
I have installed windows 10 using insider review in my lumina 730. After installing windows 10 i am not able to connect my phone with microsoft account. Hence i am not able to download, access apps installed through store. How to connect my phone to microsoft account. I tried connecting but it is showing error.
- I am using some email accounts from the same Internet service provider - the accounts are configured apparently with the same settings - one accounts gets through and works correctly, reading and sending emails - the other accounts don't read, nor send
+ wrong accounts keep asking to "correct account", because "outlook mail settings of account aren't updated" + this happens both in Win10 Desktop and mobile. + the "correction" asks the password, then does nothing + the issue repeats at every sync, with no sync
I was wondering how to keep my laptop from going to sleep when it's plugged in. I have all the settings set to "never" but it still goes to sleep after ten-fifteen minutes. For what it's worth, it's a Dell laptop...
ever since I purchased a new computer this summer I have had the problem with using my speakers, my HDMI and headphone(Corsair Gaming H2100 Headset) sound is working flawlessly. When I bought it it had Windows 8 installed and I had the exact same problem then. I have both Realtek HD audio and NVIDIA HD audio installed, and I have tried to use both independently with the same result, this has been bugging me for months and I truly do not know what to do.
Edit: the speakers worked without any problems until I got the new computer.
i had my HP Pavilion dv6 7050ca laptop for 3 years now and it was working perfectly until today...I put in my battery (I usually only run my laptop with power cable without battery) and unplugged it to go downstairs to work. After I was done, i put it to sleep, brought it back upstairs and replugged in everything (headset, mouse) including the power cable and once I woke up the laptop, it became insanely stuttery, from the windows 10 interface to the mouse cursor to games to web browsing to everything! Everything still opens fast but it is just the movement of things: mouse cursor, gaming, web browsing, videos, etc. I already tried shutting down and taking out the battery and running it with only power cable like I used to, reinstalling graphics drivers, restarting the computer, unplugging nd re plugging, nothing seems to be working!
I can not boot in uefi mode or with secure boot on, I can only use CSM mode. Also when I try to boot without usb drive(which has win 10 on it) in computer it just shuts down and then turn on back and give me error that all boot options have been tried press f4 etc
I am preparing this flashdrive for a friend with his favourite anime on it and I carefully prepared all the folders to have neat little icons and hidden the icons files (along with some surprises) in an invisible folder, etc.
But when I try the drive on my laptop everything's gone. The icon's revert back to regular folder icons, everything is in details view (which also makes the invisible folder decidedly noticeable). is there ANY WAY to have a folder retain all of its settings when plugged into a different PC? Both PCs (mine and my friend's) are Windows 10. My laptop that I used for testing is Windows 8 however.
It DOES recognize my camera as an external drive, and any thumb drive I plug in...however, it says there are NO FILES on those drives. I import pictures every day, and can no longer do this. Is my only option uninstalling Windows 10 and going back to 8.1?
I upgraded to Windows 10 on my laptop last night from 8.1 and it had been working fine this morning. However in the afternoon I got a notification that there had been a driver failure and I should restart to repair it. Ever since I have though I've been having difficulties. After I log in I'm stuck on a black screen with only the cursor visible. If you leave it for about 10 minutes eventually the desktop appears, however I'm prompted with the error message in the title and the task bar hasn't loaded. If you try and click on the task bar you eventually get the pop up "Microsoft Windows: the application is not responding" and it gives me the option to end process which does nothing. I'm unable to access control panel, I can use ctrl + alt + delete, however I can't launch task manager.
Booting in safe mode I don't get the critical error, however aside from that the situation is identical. I've tried resetting the PC, performing a system restore to before the update, and start-up repair, all to no avail.
After running Windows 10 for 6 weeks on my Dell Optiplex 790 desktop I got this critical error message. Tried several suggested fixes including unstalling a new application that proved to be imcompatible (Sling). The fix that worked for me was to do a safe boot with networking on, allow the computer to finish "working its magic" and then reboot. Then go back into normal boot mode and start again. This cleared up the problem.
