I have a acer Z5600 and use an acer AL1916W as an additional monitor which worked fine with Windows 7, since I upgraded to windows 10 my second monitor does not work and my main screen just goes black.
View 3 RepliesSo recently I upgraded to windows 10 at the same time I got a 4k display.When I set the display scaling to 150% on my main 4k monitor and ensuring that the scaling stays at 100% on my other two 1080p monitors, the entire chrome application is blurry when viewing on the 1080 monitors, and I cannot seem to fix this. Other applications seem to be okay.
Furthermore after the scaling change, some icons on my 1080 monitor's desktop get larger, as if some scaling is applied to them. Is there any solution to this? At the moment I have had to set the scaling back to 100% on my main monitor in order to use chrome on the smaller monitors.

Main monitor is CrossOver QHD270 via Dual Link DVI
Second display is a Vizio TV via HDMI/DisplayPort
So I was messing around with a 3 display setup for the first time today, one monitor (DVI) and two TVs (one HDMI, one DisplayPort). Everything worked okay, and I could unplug one TV, but when I unplugged the second TV, my monitor went to a black screen. As soon as I plugged the TV back in, the monitor started working again. The main monitor I use every day is now completely dependent on a TV I occasionally use as a second display to be plugged in to function. When I turn on the computer with just the monitor plugged in, I can see the BIOS load up, and the first Windows 10 logo, but as soon as the password screen should be shown, the screen goes black. I tried uninstalling my graphics drivers. When the drivers were completely uninstalled, the monitor functioned normally, but as soon at AMD Catalyst Control Center was reinstalled, it went black until the TV was plugged back in. I've tried plugging the TV up through HDMI and DisplayPort, it makes no difference. Also, my monitor is listed as the main display in both CCC and Windows 10 display settings. Every once in a while when I unplug the TV, the Monitor will get darker and slowly fade to black instead of going straight to black.
I can't remember when and how this started, but definitely after upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 Pro.So, my screen (Acer LCD, connected to GTX 560 with 1 meter DVI cable) started going black (power light on, background light completely off) when I watched a video that had lot of dark on it. Happens in some games as well where the cut scenes change.
I tested it by full screening a plain black image and the screen went to sleep, mouse cursor dissapeared.Moving the mouse does not wake up the screen, only when i press Win key to bring up some color to the screen. (the task bar seems to be enough to wake the screen.)I have checked all the power settings and turned off all the sleep settings, 'Turn off display after' is set to 'Never' 'Multimedia settings' are set to ' Prevent idling ' and 'Optimize video quality'
i upgraded my windows from 8.1 to 10.evrything seems fine but when i launch my games it won't run.i run dxdiag then i noticed that my intel vga and nvidia 840M's driver were uninstalled. I open the ASUS installer and installed my display driver.when i reboot, the screen goes black with the mouse cursor in it after ASUS logo.3 leds were lit.the hdd led is blinking. i reboot several times and hit F8, unfortunately nothing happened.
View 1 RepliesI have the new Acer Aspire laptop and a TV which I use as a monitor. They have worked together very happily some time now. But yesterday I had to do a forced shutdown when the start button would not work and the TV screen shrank in size and there were error messages. When I rebooted, the TV monitor stayed black and a computer screen came alive for about 10 seconds as it was rebooting, then went black. I disconnected the TV from the computer and started her up and the computer screen behaved itself.
Even if I set all of the display parameters to indicate only one screen (the computer screen), if the TV monitor is connected to the computer, I end up with two black screens.I have tried many display duplicate and extension.No new software installed.There is one clue. I disconnect the TV monitor from the computer, boot up, choose duplicates to display. Then I connect the TV monitor to the computer. What happens, for about one second, is that both screens light up.
It seems like it is not detecting my second HDMI monitor. I did see that this was an issue previously resolved, but my predicament is a bit different. I use my second monitor as the primary due to the laptop monitor not working. As it is, I have been sitting for close to an hour on a black screen due to my main monitor not being picked up and no way to visually walk through to make it my primary again... If that is even the only problem. Are there any ways I can switch to my main monitor (2nd monitor) worth no visual representation whatsoever?
View 2 RepliesI have my TV connected to HDMI and a small, old monitor connected to VGA on a Radeon 4600 video card. I have Kodi (multimedia player) set to open full screen when the default user account logs in and it does so on the main monitor which is my TV. I have the smaller, older monitor set up so I can still use the computer when someone is watching a movie on the TV. I have multi-monitor set to extend the desktop.
But my problem is when I open a program it wants to default to opening on the main monitor and when I open a program from the second monitor, it opens behind Kodi on the main monitor (and I have to click and drag it over to the second monitor) - so I would like to switch the old VGA monitor to be the main monitor and the TV to be the second.
Is there a way I can force Kodi to open and stay on the second monitor once I make my TV the second monitor?
Today I upgraded to windows 10, and the first thing I noticed was that the display on my main monitor was out of bounds(1920x1080 btw). I know the task-bar and icons on the desktop are there, but they aren't in the frame of the monitor. My other display is flawless, but the main one isn't. I turned down the refresh rate from 60 to 30 on the main monitor, and that let me see everything on my desktop, however, there is a flicker when I go over stuff. Also, I feel that there is somewhat of an input lag with the mouse.
View 1 RepliesI have a two monitor set up, with my main monitor being a 27" screen and a second 22" touchscreen as a secondary monitor.
I can only get the touchscreen monitor to pick up touches if I make it my main monitor. As soon as I switch my main monitor back to my 27" monitor touches to the touchscreen monitor appear on 27" monitor.
I just upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and now my computer only detects one display rather than two. I have a Dell desktop computer and two Dell monitors. Using Windows 7 both monitors were being detected/used. How to correct. The second display shows a black screen with the message "Cannot Display This Video Mode".

View 1 RepliesI used to see icons on my desktop and today, they disappear altogether. There is a side bar you work with and I don't feel comfortable.
The screen is black and if I right click on screen, it does not work and nothing is coming up to chose. When changing screens, I see glimpse of icons on the desktop momentarily.
So, my true desktop screen seems to be covered by this new black screen with left side bar.
I just installed Windows 10. Now my laptop monitor won't work - only the external monitor. I go to Graphic setting and click on multiple displays, but it states it doesn't see another device only the external monitor. Tried disconnecting the external monitor and rebooting, but the laptop display still doesn't turn on.
View 1 RepliesI had Win 8.1 started 2h ago updating to Win 10. After update log in(first log in) was really long, but that is no problem. The problem is after the log in only black screen and cursors appears. I tried ctrl+alt+delete it works but wen i click on task manager it sends me back with message. Task Manager Stopped Responding.
I tried Restart,Safe Mode with internet connection,Safe Mode(it fails even in safe mode). I will now even try delete all my personal documents and setting maybe that will work (clean install). *Clean install worked* (hour 2 later)
Upgrading now video card driver i guess different drivers because diff. OS and DirectX( DirectX 12 i think ). But with clean installed Win 10 did not activated by it self (6 hours later). Went to activated manually by press of a button but failed for some reason have to now wait for tomorrow to talk to microsoft people.
So I just got the dell P27Q15 monitor, it's 4K and supports 4k60hz and I have it connected over displayport, but for some reason it is not working on this monitor. I reinstalled the latest drivers on my NVidia 770m on my asus G750jx, but nothing is working. Any tips on getting this to work?
View 1 RepliesI am using my desktop (HP Pavilion) with the HP monitor that came with it. I use a DVI cable but recently the monitor is going black constantly and the pace is increasing. As of right now it can blacken one time in 4 minutes or three times in 30 seconds, so it's really annoying.
The computer isn't off, it's just the monitor, so if if I click my mouse I could still pause my video even when the monitor is black. I have to unplug the monitor's power cord then plug it back in and it goes back on.
I tried an HDMI cable too but that did nothing.

After win10's installation my external monitor has black borders.

- open Catalyst Control Center
- go to My Digital Flat-Panels
- choose Scaling Options
- slide the slider all the way to the right (so that it is a 0%)
So, this is a monitor scaling options (or border padding I think in windows) issue that I need to fix. I search everywhere but I cannot find any fix in win10.
I have a 2013 Lenovo Helix running Windows 10 that I'm using for college. I'm trying to connect it via mini-displayport adapter to hdmi to dvi to my Acer G276HL monitor. I've tried updating the drivers for my Helix, which didn't work. Next I tried installing the driver from Acer's website using the manual method in device manager.When I installed Acer's drivers, I was able to see that the computer recognized the monitor as a G276HL, but it was still just a blank black screen on the monitor.
I then found this article that seems to be what I need, but I can't figure out how to install a .inf file in compatibility mode. When I download and unzip the driver for the monitor from Acer, there are just 2 files, one is a .icm file and the other is a .inf file. Neither of these seem to be able to install in compatibility mode, as least as far as I can tell.

I upgraded from windows ultimate to windows 10. my computer boots through everything and finally brings up my old windows 7 desktop screen and then everything goes black, but mouse shows up on black screen. Is this a driver problem with windows 10? However, before the black screen appears the new start button and screen appears as the windows 10
View 1 RepliesI upgraded to Windows 10. The entire screen shows up in about 75% of my monitor with the rest black. It's not that the fonts are too small, it's just that it makes my monitor look a lot smaller and I cannot seem to get it to fill up the entire monitor like Windows 8.
View 1 RepliesI did a bit of research and this seems to have been an issue for a while, or has been in the past. Was upgrading to windows 10, I first had to restart my pc cause it was initially stuck on that preparing to install problem with the green bar being stuck around 25%.
It then got through that and began the installation process with the big circle and rebooting process. However around 91% when I last looked at it it was just black screen, this stayed this way for about 3-4 hours. I then decided to reboot the pc and it has now booted to the login screen. Is this a known bug or could there be a possible issue?
The problem seems a bit different as some people I saw have had to fall back on PC restore points etc. So not sure if it installed or what could be the problem.
Also side note, I upgraded my pc when windows 10 first publically released, but rolled back because I had about 5min shutdown times.
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge with an Intel I5 processor, 64 bit with no hardware upgrades (stock). I had accidentally stepped on the screen (fell off my lap and then crunch) which was mangled beyond repair, so I have been using it similar to a tower, with a VGA and/or HDMI connected monitor (my HDMI cable went bad, I picked up a new cable but hadn't hooked it up to the second monitor. I started my free upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium to 10 last night. I woke up to the black screen/mouse pointer issue which is what brought me to this thread. I tried the recommended fix:
1. Hit ctrl, type in password and enter
2. Win Key + P + Down Arrow. (Win Key + P only seems to do the same thing)
This brought up options to
1. Disconnect projector (Tried this and lost connection to the VGA even after reboot)
2. Duplicate (Screen is still black with mouse cursor, but I saw a little bit of red and blue pixels at the bottom where the task bar should be until I disconnected and re-connected the VGA, then it was back to black screen and cursor)
3. Extend (still black screen and cursor)
4. Connect Projector (still black screen and cursor)
I'm not sure what to do. I must have some OS installed, because I am able to also perform these operations from my USB Keyboard/Mouse. I'm just not sure how to get Windows back on my VGA connection (I haven't tried HDMI because I did not have it connected when I ran the update.) I thought Duplicate displays would do the trick, but apparently not. For as beat up as the laptop is on the outside, the hardware performs fine. I also have a 2nd laptop (work laptop, also a Lenovo W541) that I can use if any solution involves downloading something bootable.
When I boot up my computer (to windows 10). It will do the Asus splash screen then instead of going straight to windows if does this black screen with the kinda terminal thing (with no writing/text) then goes on to windows. Does this affect my computer?
