Slow Startup And Shutdown

Aug 20, 2015

I thought W7 was slow to boot, about 2 and a half minutes, but W10 is even longer, over 3 minutes.

W7 shut down fairly quickly, but W10 is taking as long, if not longer, than it does to start up.

Slow Start And Shutdown

Dec 4, 2015

W7 used to be fairly slow to start, about 2 minutes, but it shut down pretty quickly. Since "upgrading " to W10 my PC takes about 3 minutes to boot and even longer to shut down. Unless I can leave it, I usually just switch it off after about 30 seconds.

In other forums I have heard reports of boot times ranging from super fast (15-30 seconds) to funereal (5 - 10 minutes and then some). How to speed this up?

I was thinking that a clean re-install would be the best solution, but since this was the free upgrade, I don't have a copy to re-install. Maybe do a clean re-install of W7 and let MS upgrade it again (maybe!)

Slow Boot And Shutdown Time

Jul 30, 2015

10 doesn't seem to be booting very nicely. What I mean is that it seems to be having a difficult time initilizing my SSD, so upon boot I get a blank black screen for anywhere from 60-180 seconds, where the primary drive activity LED is inactive, before it actually boots. This could be problematic, because I need it to both boot and shut down very quickly since I use my laptop for class; no sleep mode, either, because my system is old and batteries no longer work with my mobo.

Shutdown Slow - Screen And Keyboard Turn Off Normally

Aug 9, 2015

Just upgraded (via Windows Update) from Win 7 Pro to Windows 10.Upgrade generally went smoothly, but....My PC now shuts down very slowly and oddly. The screen and keyboard turn off normally, in a few seconds, but the system box (fans, etc.) remain on for about 2-3 minutes longer. What the system is doing while this is going on!

No Startup Or Shutdown Sound?

Jul 30, 2015

Yes, I have the box checked to play sounds on startup under the sound tab in Control Panel. When I test other sounds on the sound tab they play fine.

I have noticed that Dolby Home Theater v4 did not migrate with the upgrade from Win 7.

Black Screens On Startup And Shutdown

Aug 12, 2015

My Windows 10 PC seems to be working OK but I notice that between the Windows 10 splash screen and the user sign on page there's a period of time when the screen simply goes black. The system does get to the sign on page but black screens freak me out a bit...

Also when I log off I'm seeing the same thing. With Windows 10 when I shut down there's a brief period when the screen is simply black and I'm now having to rely on the sound of my machine turning off vs. the visual queues that I had under Windows 7.

We are having some performance issues at starting up laptops outside our domain. When we logging at the office booting proces takes about 10 -20 seconden. (with networkshares etc)

When outside the office so at home when we are logging in it takes about 1 minute to logging on. I have also tried it without business network shares, but that doenst solve the problem. It looks like we cant reach the domain controllers (of course) but is there a way to speed this up?

Performance :: System Very Slow To Startup?

Feb 10, 2016

windows 10 professional

This is **NOT** a boot issue, the system boots up just fine and gets to the login screen fast. The issue is the system startup after login, it is takes a rather long time for Windows to become usable. I have tried stopping all NON windows services in msconfig, but this made barely any difference. Even after the system seems to have finished the startup, once I open the browser it then takes ages until it loads the first web page. If I run task manager there is nothing that is hogging the cpu or memory or disk.

I have defragged the disk, although I had to use a 3rd party tool to do this as Windows defrag refuses to do it because it thinks it is an SSD disk due to the 32GB SSD cache.

Installation :: Slow Animation On 2nd Startup Screen / Can't Load Windows

Jan 12, 2016

I am running Windows 10 1511 10836, having upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 back in August 2015. This morning when I turned on my Lenovo B575 laptop, after the first Windows screen with animated circling dots at the bottom, when it refreshed the screen and went to the 2nd Windows screen, I noticed that the animation with the circling dots was slow. After several minutes, the computer was still on this screen. After 15 minutes and no change, I restarted the computer.

Upon 2nd startup I got the same results. On 3rd startup I got the Please Wait screen and then eventually got to the Startup and Repair screen. After diagnosing found nothing, I then went to the System Restore page and found that a Windows Update had installed yesterday afternoon. I restored to the Restore Point created yesterday, and restarted.

(Last Thursday I had to force the upgrade to the 1511 10836 update by downloading the 3.5Gb file because Windows Update kept failing. I have had no problems since then.)

No change. I can get to Safe Mode after 2 failed attempts, but without knowing what to check or look for, this does me little good. Of course can I reset/reinstall Windows 10 but would rather not if I don't have to.

Performance :: Slow Boot Time On SSD And Slow Desktop Icons Loading

Aug 6, 2015

I'm using an Intel SSD 240GB 520 series. Always loading very fast, i.e., about 8 seconds from cold boot.

Since windows 10 is installed, boot time is about 20 seconds and desktop icons take some time to refresh and load their images.

Regarding the boot time: I've narrowed it down the an unexplained read/write access on my external HDD eSATA which is used for backups, though currently all backup process are stopped.

When I remove / turn off my external HDD, boot time is about 8 seconds. I can't figure out why all of a sudden it required this access to this HDD.

As for the slow icon refresh.. how to fix this.

I have installed W10 twice using the update feature. Everything work fine except when I want to shutdown or put the machine to sleep by clicking on those options, the machine makes noise like the HD is working. It then just shuts down and reboots again. The only way I can shut it off is by using the button on the computer.

No Screen Shutdown When USB Hub Is Plugged In

Oct 1, 2015

I set my screen to turn off after ten minutes but it doesn't shut off. Today I read somewhere that it could be because I have a USB hub plugged in. Sure enough I unplugged the Hub and my screen shuts down as I have set it up to do. I need what is plugged into my hub and it is a real hassle to reboot my machine when I plug the Hub back in. I have also noticed one more thing and that is that programs that run in the back ground for instance Seti @ Home slows way down since the screen stays on.

Unexpected Shutdown For System

Nov 20, 2015

I installed a fresh copy of Windows 10 on my laptop (Dell 7720). While running Fallout 4, I encountered sudden power-off for my system.

The power button did not turn back on for a couple of minutes and the bottom of the laptop was quite hot.

How can I ensure that this unexpected shutdown was due to Laptop overheating and no other reasons (such as Driver conflicts or bad drivers) ?

PS:- In the event viewer in the System tab , I noticed 3 major events , 1 critical, 1 Error and 1 warning. Attaching these 3 FYR.
