View 8 RepliesI just did a clean install on W10 and change my bios to UEFI (which it supports.) I'm having this intermittent problem with the Windows "Start" Button in the lower left. It just stops working - left clicking doesn't do anything, although right-clicking does. I just have the basics installed now.
Also, my Windows "Start" key on my keyboard stops working as well. I checked on a keyboard checker and the key itself is fine. I have to log out/back in to get it to work again.
my start button wont work, i cannot restart my computer and even from the sign on screen the only option i ave it to shut down. my icons are still on the taskbar but i cannot view them and when i open my browsers its deleting my last sessions even when i have them saved to appear each time i open the browser. my time and date is gone as well as any viable option to get to my drivers and computer settings. the only thing ive been able to get to is the actio of using the windows button and pressing r but each seach i get an error message that anything i type cant be found.
View 3 Replieswhen i click on the start button, either right or left click, there is absolutelyno kind of response. i cannot get to the control panel, nor turn off the laptop, nor anything else. the stupid thing is only two months old
View 3 RepliesMy computer tech had me download Windows 10 on my husband's computer. While we were using it last night the Start button quit working. Part of the toolbar were deleted also. It appears this is a common Windows 10 issue. I have tried all the fixes I can find, but am hesitant to download from unknown sources.
View 5 RepliesSee my post below about upgrade issues. I just downloaded and installed the old Windows 7 games. I went to start to find them and up came this error. A blue rectangle appears on the screen and says they will try to fix it when I sign out and in again. I have just done that three times. I have also switched users. The other user has the start menu working just fine. Stupidly I am back to my own login so I can't tell you exactly what the error message says.
Is there any other way to access programs (apps as they are now called) other than via the start menu?
Since my start button does not work, is there any other way to get to settings to view installed updates?
View 3 RepliesI upgraded to Windows 10 in early August and all has been well until this week when I find that when I left click on the start button nothing happens (right click is fine), and Microsoft Edge seems to have disappeared from my PC (although the icon remains on the Quick Start Bar (but does nothing). This means that I cannot access my list of programs and apps etc.
This all seems to have happened after the last Windows Update. I have tried a system restore from some of the previous restore points, but to no avail.
I have a laptop as well and Windows 10 is running fine on that.
I upgraded recently from w8.1 to w10 using free UG offered by MS. It has been working well until about a week ago, when suddenly one evening (it worked well throughout the day) when I clicked on the start button the tiles did not show up. I have done sfc scan and DIMS/restore health many times; all of them show there are no system integrity issues. I am able to work on my files by going through file explorer. Right click on start button works, but left click doesn't.
About two days ago, I got a notification windows.immersivecontrolpanel_cw5n142txeyewy!microsoft.windows.in. I searched all over for a solution to this problem...and finally in one of the threads in this site I found the following solution provided by USgroupie in August 2015 (13th Aug) to enter the following command in Powershell - Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)AppXManifest.xml"} - I entered this and the system ran the whole process and did come up with a number of red-notifications saying it could not register a number of Apps...
However, the beauty is that after I upgraded to w10, I have not installed any apps except ofcourse the office 2010, adobe reader and such. In fact I have never used the app store...I have an MS account but I use only a local account.
i try to left-click on the windows start button, nothing happens. the other half of the time, the appropriate menu of apps comes up. the right-click part of the start button ALWAYS works. is there a way to fix the start button so it always works? OR is there a way i can bring up the menu from the right-click menu--perhaps a command prompt....
View 8 RepliesAnother issue I see (on a different Win10 machine) is when i right click the start menu the links that are pointed out in red do not work. all other links work fine. It seems the shortcuts are broken but i looked in the user folders and they are all there. clicking the links in the users folder opens the screens but using the shortcut doesn't seem to work. it's very odd.
This is a Win10 Pro machine.
I upgraded windows a few months ago. about a month ago my search bar and my start button didnt work and no matter what i clicked i couldnt get it to work. I wasnt to mad about that but now i cant right click my icons and ive tried restarting windows explorer and ive googled alot. Its starting to bug me to the point where it may be better to go back to windows 7 or do a fresh install to get rid of all the problems.
View 1 RepliesTwo weeks after the installation of Windows 10, the left button stopped working on one of the two accounts on my laptop. I can't get my start button, Start menu, icons on my desktop. Have tried sfc/scanow, DISM.exe/online/cleanup-image/scanhealth & many of the remediesfrom the net with no luck. Surprisingly the second profile on the computer is working fine. I am at a point of returning to windows 8.1
View 3 RepliesSomething has suddenly changed on my computer (I used the AOL Computer Checkup program yesterday but this problem seems to have started today). When I left click on the Start Button, nothing happens. If I right click, I get a pop-up menu that is different than the Start page and is all in black and white. I don't know if the right click menu was there before because I don't think I have ever tried that. When I right click either the Word or the Excel icons in the taskbar, nothing happens (left clicking still opens the app as usual). In the past, if I right clicked the icon I would get a pop-up menu with the files that I had pinned to the taskbar plus the most recent files that I had used that weren't pinned.

View 11 RepliesI have four computers running Win10. On two of them the windows "Start" button on the task bar doesn't work. So I can't get to Settings or Apps. I can right click on the Start button and get the "right-click menu". All of the other task bar buttons work.
What's going on with this? It used to work. For a while it didn't work on my laptop, now that is working but on two other desktop computers it doesn't work. All computers have same Win10 version and latest updates (although hardware differs some between them).
Can I add the "Settings" and "All Apps" shortcut I would normally get left-clicking on the Start button to the Start button's "right-click menu"?
Start button ceasing to work? I can't access many programs that I don't have as desktop shortcuts. None of the notification icons in the systray activate, so I can't access the notify center or change my wireless signal. I've seen this answered on many other forums, but none of the fixes seem to work for me.
View 3 RepliesI have upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. I had problems going into and out of sleep mode which seem have been resolved by installing updates for Intel Graphics. Now I can't get anything to come up when I left click on the Start button. All of the other icons in the task bar will only work with a left click of the mouse, nothing happens with a right click. Also, I did not get Cortana when I upgraded to Windows 10 on this device. I also upgraded another lap top and have Cortana on that one. With all of these problems occurring one after the other, can I reinstall Windows 10?
View 14 RepliesI have my Windows 10 for around 3 days now, the thing is, in the second day after my computer froze when i was playing counter strike, everything in the task bar but my shortcuts stopped working, they dont open anymore, but when i click it, the cursor blue loading circle shows up but nothing happens.
View 1 RepliesHow to press two button in on screen keyboard ? I mean shift+end or shift+home. Its a very useful feature of selecting a long line.
View 2 RepliesI have a simple, generic keyboard that has Power / Sleep / Wake Up buttons right above Print Screen / Scroll Lock / Pause.
I want to disable them because I always shut down my computer accidentally and lose all my work.
All solutions I found are for windows 7 and are about tweaking in the Control PanelHardware and SoundPower OptionsEdit Plan Settings, where I can edit Advanced Power Settings.
However, that's the wrong thing to do because the "Power button and lid" section is not only for keyboard, it disables the computer case buttons as well which I normally use to shut down the PC. How I can disable those keyboard buttons in Win10?
I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop. It kept prompting me to upgrade to Windows 10, so I did so. Now the button that disables my touchpad (also the F5 button) is not working. The touchpad will not turn off.
Secondly, when I try to move the cursor, the "right click" menu pops up wherever the cursor lands, and it will not let me type. I have to use an external mouse to click out of the menu, then put the cursor back where I wanted it to land.
How can I make the disable button on my keyboard work again, and how can I fix the mouse so that the right click menu only comes up if I actually right click?
i keep some rdp windows open for work all day and at some point the keyboard just stops working on the remote desktops, only the mouse works, to get it working again i have to close the rdp session and reopen it many times, sometimes even this doesn't work, so i have to reboot my win 10 and then it normally works. I must say that in all my years of windows 7 i have never had a similar issue.
View 1 RepliesI recently dual-booted my Windows 8 notebook with Windows 10. But the touchpad and keyboard won't work even after installing the appropriate drivers. This problem did happened before this in Windows 8 but solved by using Windows Update. My notebook is an Aspire E5-411-C4TN. I even downloaded Elan and Synaptics driver from Acer. Tried Googled around, found nothing...
View 1 RepliesI have a Dell XPS 17 laptop. Worked great under Windows 7. Tried Windows 10 but was unable to get the wireless LAN driver to work, so I went back to Win 7 via the official "Go Back to Windows 7" option in Windows 10 - now the keyboard and mouse won't respond after start up. They work fine in the bios, but are completely unresponsive on the login screen - even when I boot in safe mode. No USB ports work, so I can't try another keyboard/mouse. Was going to reinstall but I'll lose the existing data. Now I'm going to have to pull the drive and copy over manually, then reinstall. Last thing I was going to try was disabling EVERYTHING in the BIOS just in case there was some kind of weird IRQ conflict, etc.
