Taskbar Button Is Unresponsive
Feb 4, 2016My taskbar button is unresponsive. When I click it nothing happens so I am in effect shut out of the programmes. What is the solution to this problem?

Jan 3, 2016Now & then when I start my computer, nothing appears in the task bar, the Microsoft Start button at the bottom left fails to respond to either a left or right click, the Cortana window "Ask me anything" & the Task View are also unresponsive'.
I then restart the computer either by pressing the power button for some time or by the Ctrl/Alt/Delete process. On re-starting everything is fine. What I don't know is how to prevent this problem from occurring again.

Jan 13, 2016After the 12Jan2016 Windows 10 Home updates some taskbar icons became unresponsive to a left click of the mouse. Examples are the leftmost for access to all applications, the right most to access the calendar, the next most rightmost to access notifications. Right click of the mouse on the icons works as expected.

Jul 31, 2015My laptop is LENOVO G510. It came with windows 8 single language. I upgraded to windows 8.1 single language a year ago. I updated it to windows 10 home by triggering the update. The upgrade went successfully. But the problem now is the start button, applications in the taskbar(only right click) and icons on the taskbar on the right side(time, battery, wifi etc) are not working. They work if I click them after a gap of ten minutes. But if I click them for a second time immediately, they won't work.
Is it my only problem or it occured to many laptops?

Nov 18, 2015So, all of a sudden while watching YouTube (with Windows 10), my computer's sound stops working.
So to try and fix this, I restart the computer. But when I sign back on, the taskbar is completely clear of all my previous apps on it and the windows button refuses to work. Even when I right click the windows button, nothing pops up.
Also, when I open up apps on my desktop (like Chrome), there is nothing on the taskbar, so if I minimize anything, I can't get it back!

Jan 2, 2016I'm running Windows 10 and have been since it was first released. This morning I was playing a game, and my sound stopped working, so I rebooted my computer to see if that would fix it. It fixed the problem, but I had no icons pinned on my taskbar, no time & date, and the search and start button would not work. After hard-booting the computer for a second time, there was still nothing. When I open a program the icon doesn't show on the taskbar.

Aug 3, 2015I have Window 10, just upgraded it was working great I turned my computer off and went to bed last night. Today I turn it on and now when I click the start button or windows key. The mouse just looks like it is loading, the taskbar flashes, and nothing comes up. I'm not able to use the Search Bar, however I can click my apps that are pinned to the Taskbar to open them. I can't right click on them tho to do anything with. I have tried to restart Explorer. It did nothing Also something else I think might be worth adding. I had Microsoft Edge pinned to taskbar when I turned my computer on and tried to open it is when all of this started. The Icon of Edge went black and then just removed it self from my Taskbar. Now nothing works.

Dec 14, 2015I upgraded windows a few months ago. about a month ago my search bar and my start button didnt work and no matter what i clicked i couldnt get it to work. I wasnt to mad about that but now i cant right click my icons and ive tried restarting windows explorer and ive googled alot. Its starting to bug me to the point where it may be better to go back to windows 7 or do a fresh install to get rid of all the problems.

Aug 2, 2015I want jump lists on both taskbar and Start button, they are only showing on Start button. I have checked the registry key that controls this attribute and the value is "1" so both should show. The "Show recently opened items... " switch in Settings is set to ON. Something is supressing the jump lists on my Taskbar icons. I do get live thumbnails on the icons but that is all. Right clicking does nothing.
Windows 10 Pro is an upgrade install and did not clean install afterwards. In my opinion not needed. I have run SFC /scannow and got a clean report.
CORRECTION: The Start button is showing the context menu on right click, not the jump list, unless that IS the jump list.
Is the registry key value 1 to show the jump lists?

When I left click on the Start Button, nothing happens. If I right click, I get a pop-up menu that is different than the Start page and is all in black and white. I don't know if the right click menu was there before because I don't think I have ever tried that.When I right click either the Word or the Excel icons in the taskbar, nothing happens (left clicking still opens the app as usual). I have been switching in and out of tablet mode, and I find myself at a point where now my task bar are not working.
For example, when I click on the "Action Center" nothing pops up, or when I click on the WiFi icon, or Volume icon. My start button on my screen, and the physical one on the tablet itself are not working either.
I am trying to get off of tablet mode, but I can't access the Action Center do be able to get off of it.
Windows Start Button On Taskbar Doesn't Work With Left-click
Jan 15, 2016I have four computers running Win10. On two of them the windows "Start" button on the task bar doesn't work. So I can't get to Settings or Apps. I can right click on the Start button and get the "right-click menu". All of the other task bar buttons work.
What's going on with this? It used to work. For a while it didn't work on my laptop, now that is working but on two other desktop computers it doesn't work. All computers have same Win10 version and latest updates (although hardware differs some between them).
Can I add the "Settings" and "All Apps" shortcut I would normally get left-clicking on the Start button to the Start button's "right-click menu"?

Dec 25, 2015I just did a clean install on W10 and change my bios to UEFI (which it supports.) I'm having this intermittent problem with the Windows "Start" Button in the lower left. It just stops working - left clicking doesn't do anything, although right-clicking does. I just have the basics installed now.
Also, my Windows "Start" key on my keyboard stops working as well. I checked on a keyboard checker and the key itself is fine. I have to log out/back in to get it to work again.

Aug 10, 2015It's been a while since I've upgraded to Windows 10 but the problem still exists. To leave this short, when I'm doing something like watching a movie, installing files, browsing the web, playing a game, etc. My computer just becomes completely unresponsive. I can't move my mouse, I can't use ctrl+alt+delete to get to Task Manager, when I check to see if my keyboard is still working, I try to turn caps lock off and on and that doesn't work. So whatever this issue is, it's just completely crashing my computer. This freezing causes me to hard restart my computer every single time.
I don't want to get back to Windows 7 so I've been dealing with it by keeping my PC close to me that way I can restart it when needed, but it's annoying when you're trying to do something and all of a sudden your computer just freezes.

Sep 27, 2015I upgraded from a fully-functioning Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 this weekend. The upgrade process seemed simple enough, but I am suffering from intermittent freezes which can only be resolved with a full (hardware button) reset.
At a random time - after anything from 5 to 50 minutes - the screen will suddenly power off (the monitor itself will usually tell me it is going into sleep mode). Sometimes I'm in the middle of something; sometimes I've gone away and have returned to an unresponsive PC. Sometimes I will see the mouse cursor and desktop freeze for about a second before the screen goes black; sometimes I won't. If I'm playing music, it will stop. Ctrl-Alt-Delete doesn't do anything - but the hard drive light still flashes, as if Windows is still running. (The error logs don't *seem* to show anything out of the ordinary, other than that I then have to do a socking great reset!)
I've tried various things already - I've made sure the graphics drivers are up-to-date (via an install from scratch); I've disconnected everything from the USB ports; I've booted with everything in Startup set to disabled... But the problem keeps recurring, and I really don't want to have to scrub everything I've got and do a 'nuclear' install. (In theory, I'm dual booting with Windows 7, but have not booted into that for years, probably.)
Safe mode seems stable, as does the screen before you actually log on, so I'm inclined to think it's a driver issue or something, but they're all up-to-date, too. I'm running a single monitor, BTW.

Unresponsive After Shut Down For Random Time
Sep 30, 2015After shutting down, putting my computer to sleep, or shutting the lid, My computer becomes entirely unresponsive. The power button does nothing, the lights to indicate it is plugged in are dark, the computer seems to be dead. After a random period of time, ranging from 1 to 9 hours, It comes back to life as if nothing had happened. It seems to be similar to the Hibernation/Sleep problems but significantly magnified.

Sep 26, 2015This is a PC purchased with windows 10, it wasn't an upgrade. Only thing I did was clone the operating system onto a SSD hard drive, and keep the original drive for storage.
Maybe every 3rd bootup, or any time I wake from sleep, the computer is unresponsive on many programs and system functions. It isn't frozen, edge browser always works, office works, other programs work. It isn't trying hard or chugging away either, opening task manager shows little or no CPU, hard drive, RAM, network activity.
This is what doesn't work:
chrome browser - click to open, nothing happens. maybe 20 minutes later if I don't restart, it will open.
windows store - won't open.
windows store games - won't open.
windows explorer - won't open to browse files, click and nothing. same as chrome, maybe 20 minutes later it will open.
windows update - won't connect.
Some times when I boot up, everything works perfectly, no issues. But like I said, maybe every 3rd bootup, or after waking from sleep it doesn't function correctly.
Not sure what info I need to include about the PC, but it is all new components.
