All of a sudden all the folders and files (mainly text) on my desktop have disappeared.
After a long search I was able to find them in : usersuserAppDataRoamingAdobeBridgeCS4Cache256Desktop6E309C78.
All the files are saved as .jpg and they really are images, so changing the file extension does not bring them back to text.
all of my important Data inside my PC in separate D:1TB HDD I stored in the PC. But suddenly today all of my D:1TB WORD 2013, TEXT, .JPEG Photos converted into .abc format, this extension added to all of my very important files, which I am having from last 15 years, So I can't loos this Data at all, all files becomes like this

I'm trying to create some custom buttons for my PC using Rainmeter, and part of what I need is high resolution/quality icons from the programs I use. I notice that for quite a few programs, since I've set my icons to large, come up very nicely on my desktop, but I can't seem to find them of the same quality on the Internet. So, how can I take whatever file it is that creates this icon, and convert it into a high resolution jpeg or png file so I can edit it?
View 3 RepliesI upgraded to W10 this morning, and since then, although everything seems to be OK, it will not open any PDF or JPEG files. I get an error message for the JPEG something like, " illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion"
For the PDF files it says, "invalid value for registry".
As all of my work files are in PDF format.
Since the latest windows 10 update a couple of days ago, I get time-outs when I try opening .jpegs .mov's and so on. About every third time I double click a file, the system just loads and after about 10 seconds I get a time-out message (in German: Der Wartevorgang wurde abgebrochen) and I am unable to view it.
I did several restarts, updated drivers but still same problem. as a filmmaker, this is very annoying to me!

I just installed Windows 10 mobile (v10586.107) and I wanted to try to send a text message from my desktop through my phone to my friends. I could have sworn that I saw an article on Windows Central that explained how to connect my desktop and mobile through Cortana, but I can't seem to find it now.
Did I imagine this? Is the texting feature not implemented yet?
I was thinking it would be really great if my desktop were to inform me when I received a new message or missed a call since I hardly check my phone.
I guess I should have come here first but I searched the internet on how to fix this aggravation. It seems the accepted way is to go into the Control Panel, System, Advanced System Settings and uncheck the box for Use drop shadows for Icon labels on the Desktop. Been there, did that, rebooted, and absolutely nothing changed.
I went back to the same place and turned off the other two references to shadows, rebooted, and again, no effect anywhere that I could see.
Why making a double image of text would seem like a good idea. All it does for me is make it damn near impossible to read.
Did we receive any word whether it would be possible for users to sync SMS messages across not only phones but computers as well? It would be very convenient for me if I could respond to someone who messaged me from my computer rather than my phone when I'm at home or doing work.
View 24 RepliesDownload the free upgrade on my existing win 7 laptop but not install it. Make an ISO from the downloaded ESD file as noted in the tutorials. Then remove my hdd which has win 7 installed and replace it with a new SSD. Then using the ISO proceed with a clean install of win 10. Would this work? Or does the ESD/ISO file 'tag' the hdd in some way that would prevent it from installing on a new hdd? If anything goes wrong during install or have issues with drivers later on I could always swap back in my win 7 hdd and be up and running like nothing happened. New to all this but little weary of doing an upgrade since In case I need to install win 7 back for some reason its a long process instead of just swapping hdd's.
View 4 RepliesI really like using the Windows 10 Cortana feature where I can dictate or type a text at my desktop computer and have Cortana send it through my phone. This usually works within a minute of me sending it, but I tried sending three consecutive texts with the feature tonight and not one has been successfully sent after half an hour. Should I wait more or just assume they got lost?
View 1 RepliesSo after my computer randomly restarting itself my desktop items have gone crazy. The text is miniscule, the alignment is insane and the (for lack of a better word) hitboxes are whacked out like so:
And then I go to access my Control Panel, no luck. Doesn't open.
I then go into Display Settings/Advanced Display Settings try clicking "Advanced sizing of text and other items", again nothing. Doesn't even change screens.
I then go to Windows Update and an update is "Downloading" but stuck at 0% permanently.
*EDIT* I am using bootcamp on a MacBook Pro
My desktop icons have disappeared, the text associated with the icons is still present, the graphic images are missing. Clicking on the text still activates the application.
View 1 RepliesMy local admin account was converted into a Microsoft account , is there a way of reverse it ? Less than one month ago Windows 10 Pro was installed. Let me explain you that there was already a windows 8 installation with kernel corrupted , version 10 recovered all exactly as it was , all programs installed and my configurations.
Previously I had a administrator local account that remained the same after windows 10 installation. It happens that days after I logged in with my Hotmail account to the Microsoft Store to download a couple of items and unbeknownst to me my local admin account was transformed into a Microsoft account.
Now I no longer wish to be logged all the time with this Microsoft account, I even have another admin local account if I want to change but I would have a lot of work to make it look like as it was my original converted account.
In order to avoid such work I ask whether there is a way to convert (let's call this way) the Microsoft account back into my local account or is there a way of copying all the configurations to a new admin local account ?
Some files get backed up by File History but not Desktop or files on Desktop. I have excluded Videos, Documents, Music and Pictures as I do not want these backed up with File History.
I have turned off File History and turned it back on again, reselected the backup drive F: and selected the only folder in File History...
However, Desktop is in my user profile...
What have I done incorrectly or not done correctly?

View 2 RepliesFor instance, if I highlight a word in a text-entry field, it's a very bright blue. This is also true in Firefox, Thunderbird, Word, OneNote, various fora, etc. but not in Excel.
Prior to installing Windows 10, the highlight in a text-entry field was either pale grey (on dark backgrounds) or darker grey (on light backgrounds), which is what I'd like to have back.
How to indent Footnote text (between the raised number and the body text) automatically?
I have word 2013, and I would like to insert an indentation 1.5 between the raised number and the text in footnotes (see figure 1)

When I go to "Footnote Text" style, and then paragraph to do the indentation, it moves the number and the text to the right (see figure 2). But I do not want this.

If I use the hanging option, it only indents the texts below the first line (see figure 3)

I have gone to "Footnote Reference" style, but the "paragraph" tab is locked. I cannot enter. How to unlock it? Alternatively, how can I get the results I want (figure 1)....

I get the same message regardless of whether it's a new photo I've just uploaded or photos that have been on my PC for a long time.

View 1 Repliesmy desktop has been acting up. My files keep being deleted from my desktop. I used Everything Search to see if the files are just being moved, and they're not. They're completely wiped out. I ran a Windows Defender and it didn't come up with anything. I can't think of any software that would be causing it.
View 4 RepliesSo, this started about two or three weeks ago, but I haven't really had time to check into it. Apps (all that I have tried recently) don't see files I have on the desktop, if I need to browse to them.
Example: I scan a sheet and save as a .pdf (or .jpg, or .tif, or whatever else) to the desktop. Then I try to attach it to an email. I browse for the attachment from within the email (Windows 10 Mail or an online webmail) and the desktop is empty in the explorer window. However, if I minimize everything, all my icons, including the file I'm looking for are present. I have double checked in the explorer window that I am looking for all files, or a particular type of file. It doesn't matter.
From the desktop itself, I can click on this .pdf file and it will open in Adobe Acrobat Reader. However, if I open Adobe Acrobat Reader and attempt to browse to the file to open it, the desktop is empty.
The same happens in Adobe Lightroom, when I want to import an image file that is located on the desktop.
It also happens when I am browsing for a file to upload to Dropbox, Box, or various other places for work or home.
This happens on all networks and it happens whether or not Windows Defender or my antivirus is active or not.
However, if these files are located elsewhere (Documents, or C:, or D:, for instance) everything works as it should, without a problem. where to start?

this evening, suddenly whn i switched on my system which got updated to windows 10, is not showing any of my files / folders. i don know what happened. all vanished. jus google chrome , i tunes and recycle bin are on desktop. i cant find anything on it.
View 1 RepliesI just moved to another country and forgot my extra hard drive, so I didn't back up my files before upgrading to Windows 10. The installation went fine. After the install was done, I tested out a number of programs with no problems. Satisfied, I migrated my old desktop files over (for some reason Window's decided to not migrate them on its own). Upon restarting my computer for updates, I noticed my desktop had reverted back to what Windows 10 had originally set it up has, with little more than recycle bin and a few really random programs shortcutted. Curious as to where it migrated my old desktop files, I began to search ... nothing in my old user settings desktop file ... the recently found links all display the message 'file may have been deleted or moved' ... windows search turns up nothing for any file I had on the desktop. I am closing in beyond afraid that I've lost all of the files on my desktop in some glitch or migration error.

View 3 RepliesI have a number of shortcuts on my desktop that when double-clicked respond with not finding the file using the path displayed. I have even gone to the file that the desktop points to and double-clicked it - with the same result. This has only started with W10 upgrade. However, there are other shortcuts that still work.
