View 4 RepliesMy husband & I try to remotely support his father's HP desktop. In the last month or so he can get email, TeamViewer for remote access works fine we can ping websites by name and IP but cannot browse to them by name or IP. We have done all the things recommended on MS site for Fix Network Connection (Fix network connection issues.
We have reset router and cable modem, verified network drivers, flushed DNS, verified browser DNS settings. This computer is hardwired, other computer on wifi on same network works fine. We are 5 hours away. We made a generic "recovery drive" on a flash drive and sent it to him but usb keyboard and mouse won't work for him to use that option. Tried ps2 mouse, won't work. We don't know where to go next. Initially ran Network troubleshooter few times with no errors found. Now it gives Missing Protocol, says it fixes it, but doesn't.
But I'm currently browsing the internet and typing to you.
In fact - I can do virtually everything (League; Steam; Skype; etc) except use any OS feature that requires logging in -
e.g. Mail, User Accounts, Shop, etc. Then it says something along the lines of "Cannot use this service without an internet connection - please connect and try again." When I run Network Diagnostics as the prompt recommends - it says I am connected and cannot find a problem.
It doesn't always happen - but it seems to be determined on start-up. If I restart it now it might be working next launch - but 75% of the time it will encounter the same issue. It's been happening for months now but I've sort of gotten used to using my phone to check my emails - but I've now encountered an issue with one of my hard drives being unable to be searched (tried indexing, etc) and the only step I've found that I haven't tried says it could be a corrupted user account - but I cannot update my user account without "connecting to the internet". -_-
The system is up to date. No driver updates available.
I downloaded Windows 10, uninstalled my anti virus and disabled my firewall. I am unable to connect to the internet (Ethernet) on Windows 10, I've check the IPv6 and IPv4 which are both activated. I may need the drivers but I'm unsure how to do it.
My other issue is I can't revert back to Windows 7. Apparently my PC deleted the Windows 7 files downloading Windows 10. I tried using the windows disc to format my ssd to clean download Windows 7 back onto my computer, but it wouldn't let me for some reason.
So if there is an easy fix for the internet issue, ill keep Windows 10. But if it's going to take me all day of troubleshooting I'd much rather format my computer back to windows 7.

The internet functionality works fine on his PC after upgrading from Win 8 to Win 10, though there is one problem that we cannot seem to figure out. Whenever the computer is restarted, it somehow cannot connect to the internet. This is especially weird because it will connect after being booted up from a full shutdown.
I should also mention that this is connected via Ethernet cable, not WiFi.
I recently downloaded the latest update for windows10 and since then have been unable to access the internet.
I have tried all the possible solutions available, but to no avail. using facilites of Windows10, but to no avail.
The internet group is shown on internet connections (shows “connected, secured)
I have contacted my internet provider and they advise that it is a “windows10 software problem”..
I recently upgraded to windows 10. i started having a series of problems but they eventually fanned out but I still am unable to connect to the internet via wifi. I have to use the ethernet cable.
View 2 RepliesAfter the latest update yesterday of win10, I was able to connect to the internet. But once my laptop was shut down, I've been unable to connect since. Rebooted wireless remote and double checked all of the connections. Defender took over as my firewall from Advast. I've been able to shut off Defender but am still unable to connect to the net. In my wanderings, I did come across "report" that information was being sent but nothing going past some unknown firewall. As far as I know there are only 2; defender and Advast.
View 5 RepliesI'm running Windows 10 (upgraded from 7 a month or so ago) on an HP Pavilion g6 laptop. My computer suddenly stopped being able to connect to the internet a few hrs ago and now no website opens in any browser. Torrents work fine, surprisingly.
Troubleshooting gives me this "Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource is not responding" ... I tried the flushdns, registerdns, ... routine but it doesn't work. Switching the router off and on again didn't work either.
When I try to change the DNS manually in advanced adapter options, on selecting 'validate upon exit' and closing the window, I get this message "Unexpected condition occurred. Not all of the changes could be made".
Upon googling I noticed on some forums people were pointing fingers at Virtualbox Bridged Networking Driver and VMWare Bridge Protocol. I can see these in the Properties window, but upon trying to uninstall these, I get another error 0x8007007E
I have uninstalled VMware, but the damn protocol is still there. I'm not sure if that is really what is preventing me from making changes to the Network's properties like DNS and IP ...
I have a brand new Dell computer with factory installed Windows 10. Unable to connect to Wifi. Shows "Limited" connection.
View 2 RepliesI have a VAIO F Series VPCF217HG that I just upgraded to Windows 10 a few days ago. So far everything worked fine except one problem.
I have a perfect internet collection, as in I am still able to go on to websites and download/upload stuffs, but every time I try to use any of the Microsoft features, it keeps saying that I don;t have an internet connection. I cannot use Cortana or Windows update and a lot of other features. I tried to use the ""Use SSL 2.0""Use SSL 3.0""Use TSL 1.0""Use TSL 1.1""Use TSL 1.2"" fix but it did't work.
I thought it was because of my outdated Mcafee, so I uninstalled it but the problem still persists afterwards.
One of my PC's aren't connecting to the internet. It's running Windows 10. And it shows a yellow triangle and says 'no internet' if I click it.
View 1 RepliesI've been getting the following error : "The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation" Things I've already done trying to solve the problem:
1) Clean install of Windows 10.
2) Made sure my WiFi network card doesn't go to Sleep, by disabling that option in the Power Management.
3) Have set hosted network mode to allow
4) Made sure that my network with internet access is set to sharing
Additional info: It was working fine untill some random windows update, after which the PC started getting BSOD when trying to host a network. Reinstalling drivers started giving me this error instead of BSOD. Then I rolled back to windows 8.1 and checked again. It was working flawlessly. I assumed it to be a driver problem, so I upgraded to Windows 10 again and this error is back.

c) the automatic update is the only change in the software

View 1 RepliesHave been adding many shortcut icons to the desktop by:
Right click on desktop/new/shortcut
Create shortcut window opens & I hit the browse button, which then opens a browser window where I can select "This PC" and navigate to C:Program files to select the .exe file.
This procedure worked well for about 20 items or so. Now when I get to the browser window, the only item in the tree is "Desktop/Gary" - Nothing else, so I can't get to C: drive.
In the meantime, I used File Explorer to locate the .exe file & right click/ send to desktop.
I want to select a certain category in the store and just browse all apps, not just new or free. Is there anyway I can do this?
View 2 RepliesI use "Photos" app as default viewer when i manually open a picture file from explorer. I don't really like it, except for its touch feature but i give it a try. One missing feature is that once i opened a file in it from explorer, i can't browse others files in same folders from application. Is there a way to enable this ability ?
View 5 RepliesOne of the most useful feature of the previous Photo viewer ist that it easaly allow to browse all the images in the folder where any image was opened
This feature seems to have diasapear in Windows 10 so on every machine installed with Windows 10 I replace the default application to open image by the old Photo viewer
But I do not really understand why Microsofr is replacing very usefull application by new and removing very useful feature So for now I do not see many improvement for new apps around Windows 10 Paint .NET +Photo Viewer is much better that the new MS Photo Thunderbird is much better that the ridiculous new Microsoft Mail Configuring Chrome is much easier than Edge etc..
I'd just upgraded to windows 10 yesterday, and I've been having issues with browsing files. Today, I was trying to change my background from settings, and as soon as the file browser opened up, it closed straight away. Settings also stopped working. It was frozen, and I had to close it using ctrl+alt+delete. Pretty much the same thing happened with 3D builder, however the application crashed after the file browser closed. I've done sfc/scannow and tried restarting windows explorer but nothing has even remotely worked.

Trying to figure this out in Windows 10. I have a file on my system, and windows doesn't yet know what program to open it with. When I right click the file and select "open with", the dialogue is quite different. Now I no longer have the option of selecting a perfectly fine program from my computer and open the file, my only option is to search for a program in Windows Store which turns out to be a dead end. What option is there to associate a program with a file extension in Windows 10, as the on the fly method that always used to work perfectly.
View 5 RepliesI don't know if this is related to Win10, or an issue that existed with my Win8.1 before. I just noticed it after upgrading yesterday.
So, my firewall just prompted me about an outbound connection attempt by a file (named C:WindowsSystem32SIHClient.exe) and I didn't recognize it. I found it using explorer, and it's unsigned; so I visited VirusTotal.com and tried to upload it... but from the file upload browse box in Chrome I can't see the file! Even typing *.* and open doesn't remove the "filter" and reveal the file. (I finally ended up copying it to desktop and uploading from there, but still don't know what the file does.)
I thought that Explorer's "File View Options" (show hidden files, do not hide operating system files, etc.) were used throughout Windows once applied. Am I wrong? Should I suspect a virus or is this normal? What gives?
Working on desktop Lenova computer. I was updating the computer drivers when one of the drivers froze, I click on cancel. I tried the internet and it stated No Internet Connection. I went into Device manager and did the unthinkable. I deleted everything inside the Network Adapters, including the words Network Adapters. In other words, no Network Adapters are showing in Device Manager.
First, I would like to know how can I replace the words Network Adapters in the Device Manager menu, and download the two adapters that were there in the beginning. Lastly, how to get back the Internet to work again.
