Since upgrading to Win 10, I have a couple of issues. Note Pad...it fills the entire screen and it won't resize. Whole screen or minimized....that's the extent of Note Pad. The calculator is the same...full screen only. I worked around that by downloading the win 7 calculator.
I am unable to resize windows in Windows 10. My only two choices seem to be to make the window full size, or to minimize it. The middle of the three buttons in the right hand corner does not work. I also do not get the little arrows at the edge of each window that enable one to resize.
I regularly print pages from a website, & with IE I was able to re-size the document to 95%, 85% etc to use less paper. I can't do this with Microsoft Edge-it doesn't give me any options to re-size the document for printing? Is there an option I am missing?
I downloaded Windows 10 on release and despite its flaws, I actually like it.
I am finding an issue with Explorer though. I've noticed that the preview image icon for folders doesn't resize itself to fit within the folder preview section, so if the image I want to show as a preview on that folder icon is tiny, it'll show as being tiny in the preview with loads of blank space around it, for larger images it does seem to fit in, though if the image is longer than it is wide than it'll cut the bottom bit off. This wasn't the case in previous versions of Windows and I presume it can be tweaked in the registry.
I'm using a 4K monitor and Microsoft have improved the scaling in this OS, but it's still not exactly brilliant. Third party software is the main culprit tbf.
Every Time I try and "Save" a KS Writer Doc' the "Save to Folder" that opens Has Just Got Bigger and Now it s "Sized itself" to Nearly Full Screen Size and I cannot Size it Or Move It > Eg > I Right Click on Top of the Folder > Drop Down Menu Say s > Restore, Move, Size, Minimize, Maximize or Close, I cannot Re Size the "Folder Perimeter" Nothing Happen.
I upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7; the image that is displayed has never fit the size of the monitor (technically it's a TV, but whatever). I always would use Nvidia Control Panel to resize the image to fit the monitor, but it wasn't updated for Windows 10 (or 8 for that matter), so there is about an inch border of the screen that I can't see. I have a Nvidia GTS 450 graphics card. I was wondering if there is some way that I could resize the image or not. I also tried to go under display settings, but for whatever reason, the section where I can change the resolution is greyed out.
Windows 10 is a very nice OS... But it sure has some annoying stuff... Well at least on my machine... Maybe I have a Registry setting that is set wrong... Here is what is happening...
I use a lot of txt files... But this is really ticking me off... I did not want to use the word I was thinking about... I search for a fiIe, I find it, I click on it then and get the"What do you want to open this file" window, I pick notepad and open it, get what I need and close it...
A minute later I need to open the same file again and I click on it and the "What do you want to open this file" window opens again... Windows 10 can't remember what I used to open the file a minute earlier...
I made the txt file with notepad to begin with you would think it would know to open a file with the program that made it... If I want to open it with something else I would right click on the file and click "open with"...
But windows 10 gives you the same window when you double click the txt file or right click and click open with... I don't remember windows xp or 7 doing this...
When I boot up, reboot, Windows Notepad opens automatically with an error box "! Access Denied" - when I ok that it leaves a Notepad blank screen open. I close that and boot up is complete and I can work normally.
When Windows 10 is functioning normally, you can hold the Windows/Start-key down and press the arrow keys to move and resize the active window.
(i.e. Start-key + left moves the window to the left half of your screen; Start-key + right moves the window to the right half of your screen; Start-key + up maximizes the window to the full screen; Start-key + down minimizes the window to the taskbar)
Here is the problem I have experienced for the on-screen keyboard (with or without tablet mode),
- When the on-screen keyboard comes up, the windows will not automatically resize to make way. The Keyboard will end up covering the window. (In Windows 8.1, all windows will resize.) (In Windows 10, only Store App and Microsoft Edge knows how to resize.)
When I boot up, reboot, Windows Notepad opens automatically with an error box "! Access Denied" - when I ok that it leaves a Notepad blank screen open. I close that and boot up is complete and I can work normally.
I hate Windows feature that enforces installing localized software - e.g. I live in Poland so if I set my location as "Poland" many apps will be installed with Polish interface, which I don't want to.
Therefore I've installed my OS in en-US version and left US as my location. Now it's all nice in terms of apps interface, as it's always English. Most programs cause no problems with one exception - Notepad...
Whenever I open a txt file with Polish national characters, I see "bushes" instead of them. I tried to open them as UFT-8 encoded, but it hasn't worked. I've changed Notepad default font into CE encoding - no effect.
I tend to believe the default Notepad encoding is set to westerns somewhere, but I can't figure where to look for the appropriate setting - how to change it, so txt files displayed correctly?
Normally, if I have notepad open, I would be able to click and drag an appropriate file into notepad, like a txt file, and it would open in notepad. Now, when I click and drag files into notepad, nothing happens.
Can't delete a word in notepad, issue is still persisting since the upgrade from win8.1 to win10. For Example, consider the following sentence (without quotes "Under the hood".I usually use shortcuts,so if I want to erase "hood" I won't erase by pressing Backspace key until it is erased completely. There is a shortcut in windows to erase a specific word, and that is Ctrl + Backspace. That way if the cursor is at the end of word "hood" and I press the shortcut to erase it as mentioned above,it won't,instead of erasing the word it'll just make a rectangular box in vertical positon. You can try for yourself too,try erasing a single word with the shortcut Ctrl + Backspace. It won't,it'll just make a vertical rectangular box.
At work I extensively use a Flash-based control panel provided by one of my company's business partners. I typically run Firefox to display it.
I've recently switched to 4K monitor and the panel has become unreadable as the font size is constantly the same as in my previous (1920x1080 resolution), meaning way too small to be easily read in 4K resolution unless using a magnifying glass...
I'm aware of the fact Flash objects are virtually impossible to customize, but noticed a surprising thing when run the panel in Internet Explorer (v. 11.11.10586) - it actually gets resized together with a page and this applies to panel font too! At the same the panel displayed in Firefox is completely immune to any size changes, just other elements (non-Flash) of the page can be increased/decreased.
The tiles I've put on the start page for various apps (all resized to small) and arranged in groups are rearranging themselves randomly and resizing to medium each time I reboot. I can't find any reason for this. Also, is it possible to start more than one app at a time using the tiles? I've tried searching here and using Google but nothing at all comes up.. It's a clean install after upgrading.
I have a friend that has this problem,When he tries to print from either notepad or rich text document it says that it stops working,With no error code.
Printing from Chrome browser and Thunderbird email client work just fine. And his other computer prints just fine from notepad and rich text document.
Is there anyway to change the default 'Calibri' font that is set on opening Notepad or Wordpad?I would love to open Notepad to find the font set at something I like. 'Verdana' for example, so I can just get straight on.I know I sound lazy, but I use Note or Wordpad a lot, often dozens of times in a day, and I need to use a font I can see. I'm just sick of having to do this adjustment every bloody time!!
Due to corrupt windows files my pc is unable to start. i am able to go into the bios, but after that it will freeze on the windows logo during start up. i have made a usb windows 10 installer and tried to start the pc up using that as my hard drive (went into bios and changed it to use that as my hard drive) but it still freezes on the same screen. I even unplugged my hdd and booted up but the same thing happens so I don't believe the problem is with my hd.
My laptop pc with Windows 10 Pro has decided that when given the order to shut down it will do so, but then after 5 seconds or perhaps up to 15 minutes later it will reboot. Something is telling it to restart.
I have already done this to try to stop it: In the elevated command prompt, copy and paste the command below, and press Enter.
